For the heat issue, it seem that the only opening in the front of the car is this little mouth at the bottom of the front bumper, I'd recommend either drill some big fucking holes in the bumper or getting an aftermarket one to allow more air to pass through. I would also think that a hood with vents (not scoops, but vents) would be a good idea to allow the hot air to escape out the top (hot air rises). That alone should definitely help with the heat issues
A vented hood would make a huge difference. Not only will it allow heat to rise up off the engine, but the wind going in through the opening in the bumper, together with the wind flowing over the hood will help to actually suck much of the heat out of the engine bay.
Ben B. Rogue You can't pull air out of the engine bay there (at the bottom of the front window)........ That spot is suited for intakes! The pressure difference is all wrong, that's a high pressure location. Bonnet vents are best located a 1/3 or 1/2 up the bonnet from the front of the car. :)
Carbon Bonds Meh, Tires should be considered when you start breaking traction. This car never had a lot of torque to begin with to break traction with the stock setup so tires and clutch should of came right after the turbo install where it would be breaking traction.
I was there when they raced! Was a great night, met them as well awesome people! :) i have the race on my phone but wont upload it for spoilers cause thats dumb! :)
And after being a Ford Probe GT (Also Mazda) guy for many years, I finally bought a used, 5-speed, MX-5 in the U.S. with all problems sorted (and LSD, albeit worn) and a good platform for upgrading for $1000 U.S. in Florida. New Clutch, Radiator, Late NA Brakes, T-belt, Water pump installed and a mini-van worth of spare parts, too!
Scrolling through youtube. See new mighty car mods video = Me freaking the fawk out and running through the house and hitting the like button before I even watch the video!
Out of sheer boredom at work, i found this 35 Marty Mulholland 1:20.0930 1:16.1890 1:19.8710 1:16.0720 1:23.5020 1:18.5390 and then POST upgrades 45 Martin Mullholland 1:14.9700 1:15.2860 1:14.9050 1:15.1300 1:14.7650 1:14.9140 1:15.0110 1:15.3930 1:15.2830
I've been wondering. Are there any other channels Like MCM that do this type of light hearted, budget orientated DIY car modding? Some of the channels I've seen take them selfs way to seriously or are a "money no issue" type modding.
as for the rain thing. my dad proved it does work driving from michigan to florida in a convertible chrsyler lebaron. not gonna say how fast he was going but the interior stayed dry and so did he
Loool at the end. Amazing how far you've come with the overall car thoo. Can't wait to see the race :DD It's crazy how the s2k is still holding its weight with virtually no work done to it.
Model Year New Now S2000 2004 $74,590 $19,000 S2000 2005 $72,590 $22,000 S2000 2006 $72,590 $25,100 S2000 2007 $72,590 $27,300 S2000 2008 $73,590 $30,500 S2000 2009 $73,590 $35,300 it was a high priced car either way when it was new nsx is a mid engine car, low to the ground... fast gonna be more than 120k for the nsx
Jared Tate May I ask where you are getting these prices? Over here its not even close to those prices. Yeah those prices are deff. bullshit or from another country other than the us. An 09 S2k went for: Original MSRP: $34,995 - $37,995 MPG: 18 City / 25 Hwy And now its around 4-12k depending on mileage etc. No way anyone would play more than 38k for a 4 cylinder honda.
obligatory algorithm boosting comment, cant believe this is 7 years old, feels like yesterday when i was watching you guys on your driveway been following sice the 6th epp. ❤
I've found that at around 90+km/h no matter how hard it's raining, you don't get wet in my MX5. I've been in rain so hard you can't see through the windscreen and been completely dry with the tip down. Those aero elves in Hiroshima knew what they were doing :)
Your Haltech can be configured to log the last session and store it for review. i think it's 512 kb on board. do that for the water, air temp, oil pressure and temp needs a custom solution.
Awesome video as always, I was expecting to be left hanging and waiting for the next episode after you installed the new parts, I love that you showed it right to the end.
Hey MCM, could you guys visit a Skyline importer? I would love to see your take on that markup service market. Besides there are probably still plenty of folks who dig R34s.
if you want your mx5 to handle better, take the rear sway bar off so the back end well stay plated through turns alot better. I highly recommend this for autocross and track days. Put the bar in for drifting
To Noah Harding.. Please don't comment any more on what others should do with their vehicles. IT IS CLEAR YOU KNOW NOTHING.. your uneducated advice will affect the safety of others.. Thanks concerned technician.
Jeff's seatbelt is really annoying my OCD. On the other hand, he seems like an awesome guy. Another fantastic MCM episode! I can't wait to see the MX5 chop the S2000 :D
Run 30/70 coolant water with "water wetter" or equivalent product, then you'll get quite a few more degrees of cooling out of just the liquid. Maybe a fan upgrade? Or you could create a funneling box to make more air travel directly over the radiator, possibly opening the radiator slot in the front bumper too.
Hermaphrodite snails will be crushed by Unicorn farts!!! lol I like the unicorn farts though, I also like the mods done to the MX5 and how cheap everything was... I might get one and mod it when I'm older
MOOG's S2000 has had it. With new tyres, clutch, LSD and driveline the MX-5 can get the power down more easily and with a new clutch it can hold it at higher RPMs for longer.
'hidden?' Modding a cheap crappy car to even match a car that cost 10-15times more is a pretty good thing, and in my mind WAY more fun. And that S2000 on the track has got some pretty serious mods done to it also.
That miata is way above $1500 now..., if you take into account the time and effort you and your connections have put into that miata, its gone way above what most people could do on what you consider a budget, plenty of people prefer to go out and simply buy a better quality base built car like and S2000 and track it, i would also put my money on the S2000 massively outlasting that miata before having do repairs and replacements..I personally have a full track built Integra type R and its cost me $12k all up including the original cost. i race competitively. i have put alot of effort in myself so i am speaking from experience, not just a keyboard warrior here.
It seems bizarre that you would work/test/enhance your track machine then for a final test take it to a drag strip vs. a car that was built with track in mind. I enjoyed the videos including this one leading up to the final battle, but a drag strip battle on cars that are track machines? WTF MATE?!
can you guys do a gauge install video, boost, or air/fuel or oil pressure, any common gauges for a turboed car, it would be very helpful for a handful of people
a clean stock mazda miata for $1500???? wth!? I live in socal. and all these fuck boys over price their cars, cant find a decent or clean miata lower then $4000. :(
It's not really that clean as you think. They bought is cheap because it has rust and was going to be scrapped. They basiclly fixed up the bodywork. If the car was in better condition I doubt it will cost AUD1500
You've done exactly what I want to do to my white NA mx5. I sprayed the daisy wheels black and want to turn my hardtop and the wind pillar black to make it a panda look.
superbarnie it's supposed to be a fun track car not "gay go straight dont turn car" that engine would ruin the fun of mx5, you're an american brainwashed idiot for even thinking about it...
Error989 This is called being ignorant. An LS1 is a very compact, all aluminum engine. It is smaller than most 3.0L DOHC V6's, and most of the time is even lighter. It really would not throw the balance off too bad, and could be evened out by relocating the battery to the trunk, among other things.
get a autocoolfan radiator fan controller on ebay. it fixed my cooling issue. the car wanted to turn the fan on at 221 degrees and I needed to maintain the temp to 200 degrees for max power and that controller is the best! look it up...
Kinda pisses me off how Marty hates on Hondas so much and thinks his Miata is better than a freakin S2000! If your car can't beat the s2000 stock, and still can't beat it when you modify it it's not better... ever. An FC3S would have been a better competitor.
That isn't the point. Marty's trying to show that the MX5 is a more affordable sports car. Which it is (in my opinion). Because even with all of the factory + aftermarket mods he's installed, it still costs less than the s2k. Which is so widely dubbed to be such an affordable sports car. That is the main premise of this feud. Which is why he keeps repeating how much he payed for it. And even still, he came to an almost dead tie with the s2k in one of the races. The other races, his clutch was disassembling itself lol. Anyway, my best friend drives an s2k (AP2) and it is quite the machine :) never knew anyone with a miata though.. But hey to each his own :)
that guy is such a professional. Jumps in the car, starts talking about key points almost immediately.
Someone got their hands on an octocopter too!
Aah dude you watch mcm too I love watching your videos.
Mr Regular is in the building
Mr. Regular comment on MCM video again!!! awesome!!! That's like a cross from two world!!!
Mr. Regular is here to see Marty take his Miata to the TRACK DAY BRO.
gamerguy348 lol

I would also think that a hood with vents (not scoops, but vents) would be a good idea to allow the hot air to escape out the top (hot air rises). Should maybe do hood lifters or some custom cowling at the firewall to pull the air out from under the hood
A vented hood would make a huge difference. Not only will it allow heat to rise up off the engine, but the wind going in through the opening in the bumper, together with the wind flowing over the hood will help to actually suck much of the heat out of the engine bay.
Draggon Reaper Exactly my point! Let's hope they actually do this haha
Ben B. Rogue You can't pull air out of the engine bay there (at the bottom of the front window)........ That spot is suited for intakes! The pressure difference is all wrong, that's a high pressure location. Bonnet vents are best located a 1/3 or 1/2 up the bonnet from the front of the car. :)
once again a mighty car mod episode when i needed a smile! keep up the work guys love seeing you on my youtube feed!
"Not sure what the question is, but the answer is always Miata."
"I need a race car"
-Miata
"I need a fun daily driver"
-Miata
"What bread should I use for my sandwich?"
-Miata
5yrs later, and still no clear question, but the answer is clear.....MIATA
V8 Power... Miata we can do that :D
Home-made poor-man track builds are the best, looking forward to seeing this car getting thrashed in circuit. This Miata is sick.
Mainly because you can't feel bad about improving a beat up, used car.
wait what? How did this not come up on my youtube subscriptions list last week... WOOT AN EXTRA EPISODE
The grin @14:35 is worth a thousand words. Fantastic, well done cobba.
I would have preferred to see a "Preparing the Honda for Battle" video too before the actual main race video...
literally the best feeling ever. Coming home from a long day of work, and then seeing there's a new Mighty Car Mods video!
You guys have come a long way and succeeded, I kinda miss when you were less popular, felt more down to earth. But regardless happy for you guys.
6 years ago holy oh fuck, where'd time go?
The limited slip differential should of been the first thing he got.
*****
the bracing first, then the grippers, go fast stuff. That is life and death.
tires should always be the FIRST mod. No matter what you drive and where you are driving at.
Carbon Bonds Meh, Tires should be considered when you start breaking traction. This car never had a lot of torque to begin with to break traction with the stock setup so tires and clutch should of came right after the turbo install where it would be breaking traction.
Your building this MX5 the right way, a strong base for future power.
I was there when they raced! Was a great night, met them as well awesome people! :) i have the race on my phone but wont upload it for spoilers cause thats dumb! :)
thanks man!!

I need NOS. I need one of these. One of the big ones. You know what? Make it two. And Marty? I need it by tonight.

s2k was a 90k car when it came out
Uhh no it wasn't. Your thinking of the nsx maybe but the s2k is most deff. not a 90k car it's at the most around 30 thousand when it came out.
Model Year New Now
S2000 2004 $74,590 $19,000

Love the new intro guys :)
Hey, really great stuff! As fresh today as it was four years ago. Great to watch someone tune up their ride and have a blast in it. Cheers!
$1500?
Sure...
You've got like $600+ of tires on there.
when he mentioned the Miata being $1500, it was a recap from a previous episode before he did any of these mods.
Okay, that makes more sense then.
well, they had the videos of the turbo build, the rollbar, and the support bars
minnsminns what time did marty get? 80 oh8?
I've found that at around 90+km/h no matter how hard it's raining, you don't get wet in my MX5. I've been in rain so hard you can't see through the windscreen and been completely dry with the tip down. Those aero elves in Hiroshima knew what they were doing :)

wondering if the was a 306 gti-6 behind marty when he was driving at the end... seemed to keep up pretty well, which it would haha
I LOOOVED the transition from this 1.57 to this 2:31
Wish you guys uploaded every day then my life would be complete!
And we'd be zombies!
+Mighty Car Mods I don't get it
Love it, love it, love it. Back in Marty's garage. Can't explain how much i love this video
I got those BC Racing BR coilovers on my 180sx. They are great, no probs in the last one and half years.
Awesome video as always, I was expecting to be left hanging and waiting for the next episode after you installed the new parts, I love that you showed it right to the end.
so how soon can we get the video of Moog modding his S2000?
Man, Jeff really is a smart smart fella. I admire his words and advice.
Hey MCM, could you guys visit a Skyline importer? I would love to see your take on that markup service market. Besides there are probably still plenty of folks who dig R34s.
meeee
That's awesome! This is like something out of Gran Turismo, only you're actually living it!
I love your show but why is this episode not in HD?
This episode is in 1080hd
Not offered for me unfortunately.
Thats a bummer man. But keep enjoying MCM season 6 which is going to be bigger and better than ever.
1080p is not offered for me either :/ oh well still just as good
williamfsark Odd working fine for me.

Did anyone else notice the rub marks on the old tires at 6:26
+Vtec Vic ouch
You can totally get the hardtop on with one person, I do it all the time! The MX-5 looks like tons of fun, can't wait for you to take down the S2000!
I really really want a NB MX-5!
Me too, but I don't want people teasing me so I'll go with NC
Neil Leisenheimer The Nc´s are bigger and heavier though
just get a ND lol
Archie Chowdhury Okay, can I have £17,000?
ahh fuck......... stick with the NAs folks!
The end of the video had me rolling with moog and his mad mod to his glasses.
11:37
why you didn't do the SHOE TEST?!
13:21 Phoenix yellow integra type r in background!!!! nice miata, ill be doing a cage in mine soon.
OMG Black Renault Meganes got a mention.
MY CAR IS FAMOUS
I'll get back in my crappy French hole now.
Dude Meganes look awesome!
InternetCannonFodder it's my first car, had it for 5 years. It's an absolute shed, but it's my shed
Adam Shaw RS? :P
Lol no, it's 1998!
Still cool :D
Jeff's seatbelt is really annoying my OCD. On the other hand, he seems like an awesome guy.
Another fantastic MCM episode! I can't wait to see the MX5 chop the S2000 :D
SAME, i was like UGHHH FIX THAT
360p ???
Try different browser or clean the cash on chrome. It is the same for me but loads on 1080p when I opened the clip with IE.
Every video I see of this thing I just want to see more. Nicely done guys. Nicely done.
I WANTED TO SEE U INSTALL THE COOLANT REROUTE. DAMMIT
I really like the new opening music! Nice work Moog!
I dont often say this, but thats a really nice mx-5. much respect marty, thing is maaad.
That awesome part when they're on the track and all we can hear is Moog's S2000 revving high!!!
MCM > uni assignments :D
Run 30/70 coolant water with "water wetter" or equivalent product, then you'll get quite a few more degrees of cooling out of just the liquid. Maybe a fan upgrade? Or you could create a funneling box to make more air travel directly over the radiator, possibly opening the radiator slot in the front bumper too.
Hermaphrodite snails will be crushed by Unicorn farts!!! lol I like the unicorn farts though, I also like the mods done to the MX5 and how cheap everything was... I might get one and mod it when I'm older
I wish my life was less corrosively hopeless since this came out. I love you guys here. My make believe, and online best friends. 🖤
the new intro :)
I like it but I preferred last seasons
MOOG's S2000 has had it. With new tyres, clutch, LSD and driveline the MX-5 can get the power down more easily and with a new clutch it can hold it at higher RPMs for longer.
still couldn't pass that S2000 on the track. Hidden costs of the this project go way above what is a budget car.
I really love this episode... Has to be the best yet... Love it. Keep going fellas!
Haha when moog modifies that s2k...
Then Gramps will take care of it. I'd put that MX-5 money into it instead then the S2000 has no chance
If they put the same amount of money, the MX-5 will win
DenverJohnBradley Gramps and the MX-5 or S2k and MX-5?
Everyone who commented before is really stupid. That S2000, once modified, yes and staying normally aspirated will trash the Miata.
Puts some awesome ITB's, light flywheel, clutch ... awww! Can't even imagine :3
if i could afford it id pay you guys to make an episode like this every week! love your show, watched every episode!
Only 360p? Wtf?
It's Full HD man
Loving the Pug 306 behind Marty on the second track
There is no replacement for unicorn farts.
Mad! I look forward to the videos every week !
marty has one sweet mx-5
that's a gangster friend ship. workin on your competition to help a friend. that's awsome.
That S2000 is in serious trouble. ..
Until Moog installs a Nitrous kit and yells TOO SOON JUNIOR!!!
Moog is far too classy to install such a tacky mod. More likely he will replace the cams or add a supercharger.
R33Racer I don't know if you remember but moog once mounted a fake plastic Brembo brake calipers on a car with drum brakes lol.
Dillon Harper
never seen that, is it as tacky and crap as I can imagine?
R33Racer he just added nos and chopped the mx5 lmao
Favorite thing to see. A Mighty Car Mods Upload!
Looks like Moog got that Mugen hard top for the s2k...or should I say...Moogen. xD
many many many hours has been put into this car, excellent work! a fantastic improvement, keep the vids coming!!!
It seems bizarre that you would work/test/enhance your track machine then for a final test take it to a drag strip vs. a car that was built with track in mind. I enjoyed the videos including this one leading up to the final battle, but a drag strip battle on cars that are track machines? WTF MATE?!
can you guys do a gauge install video, boost, or air/fuel or oil pressure, any common gauges for a turboed car, it would be very helpful for a handful of people
The Mazda wins
put turbo on honda's engine...
Edgars B Put another turbo in the mazda.
TheJanope13 put 3 turbos into a bus
Hondas engine with turbo in the mx5 would be great!
Im just saying.
I live down the road from them and the mazda wins.
What's the latest with the 11 sec Suby project you introduced back in December? I don't recall ever seeing any updates on it.
a clean stock mazda miata for $1500???? wth!? I live in socal. and all these fuck boys over price their cars, cant find a decent or clean miata lower then $4000. :(
+federico Z Lol a Miata in the UK can be like £500-£1000
+Joe Wilson-Palmer see
wee
It's not really that clean as you think. They bought is cheap because it has rust and was going to be scrapped. They basiclly fixed up the bodywork.
If the car was in better condition I doubt it will cost AUD1500
My MX5 is a Japan import, rust free, great body, 50k miles. £1300
+fed Z The cheapest road worthy miata i have found costs about 7000$ where i live.... i really feel you xD
guys can you put an MX5 playlist together as its actualy quite hard to find all the videos you did.
So Peter Griffin is also a racing driver. Cool.
The new intro is maaaad, thanks Irongav!!
This video must have been made ages ago
they did this stuff in other videos, they just made a big video of it all
You've done exactly what I want to do to my white NA mx5. I sprayed the daisy wheels black and want to turn my hardtop and the wind pillar black to make it a panda look.
I have a black colour Renault Megane 225 weird French thing. C'est tres bon.
3:40am, i'm not gonna be able to sleep enough for school and i still regret nothing. great episode
I have to do fucking homework :(
yeah same
Arch P It's 1:20 in the morning and I have work at 8 :(
7:25pm here =) good luck dude
ME tooo :(((((((((((
5:30pm here n I just finished watching it ;)
Love it! Back in Marty's garage. Proper love it!

youtube problems, i have 360p
At the end of this series, it would be great to see a comparison of the time difference to the money spent.
illuminati intro
Illuminati immitates MCM dude...
lol totally
get a autocoolfan radiator fan controller on ebay. it fixed my cooling issue. the car wanted to turn the fan on at 221 degrees and I needed to maintain the temp to 200 degrees for max power and that controller is the best! look it up...

Even with mods, the mx5 is still a lot cheaper than the s2000, so price to power wise the mx5 is technically better...
PepsiMaxProductions yea it is alot cheaper but the s2000 would be my choice anyday
another great episode, guys! Can't wait to see this vs the s2k
