I sobbed uncontrollably watching this. You could actually feel Mandy's complete agony and heartache. It's like a terror which is with you constantly that just doesnt bare thinking about something happen to your baby your whole world. She (Mandy)was 110% convincing as a utterly distraught mother. To give credit where it's due excellent acting.
@@WedgePee grief cannot be acted in any way so that it is ''overacted'' or ''underacted'', grief and sad news makes people act/react in different ways. There is no correct or incorrect way of acting it really. You have to understand Mandy by this point was in a very stressful position being locked up away from her other daughter and having gone through months/years of hell-her mental state would have been vulnerable and this would have being the last straw. Bev was her closet companion in all her troubles and now she was gone. I always thought the actress who played Mandy did a brilliant job in this role and her and Anna Friel were two of the finest performances I've ever seen on television throughout this storyline-very powerful and raw performances. You can say what you want about Brookside towards the end but the fact is that the acting in it over the years was often excellent along with the direction, style and writing and it paved the way and inspired the direction of British tv all around it to improve and develop.
@@shanefolan I wrote that comment in 2019. I was specifically referring to the initial reaction at 7:28. I’m no expert on acting but I considered that to be OTT. I wasn’t around for this (four years too early).
I remember wondering why Anna Friel did not film her exit scenes with Beth dying off screen as she was in the previous episode. Anna did say she was unhappy Beth was killed off.
Apparently the producers weren't happy with her wanting to leave cuz she was at the height of her popularity at this time. So the producers told her if she'd left they wouldn't bring her back
Brookside thought it was bigger than the characters who made it famous, with no obligation to honour the contributions of its sterling performers. What an insult to Anna Friel, and the character of Beth to have it end like this!
+Messylin If Anna refused to film the scenes what else could they do? She had a reputation for being highly strung and a diva, no one character is bigger than the show they're in. Beth was a great character though and this was a shock as there was no internet at the time to spoil Beth's shock death, what was the cause of her death?
RNC200711 - she died from a heart defect, how convenient. After what Beth had been through, coming to terms with her lesbianism, overcoming the rape by her father only to be imprisoned for his death, she did not deserve to be killed off. They should have had Beth released and let her move away from Liverpool to start a new life, and go to university, It was so spiteful to kill her off, especially since Beth and Anna Friel brought the show its biggest ratings ever. They did the same thing to Martine McCutcheon on Eastenders. These characters were so loved by the viewership, it was very difficult to come to terms with their loss.
After what she went through to be killed was tragic, but I can't see any other way they could have dealt with it as she was looking at 5 years in prison or appealing to get out, Beth was the tragic soap character - the one that goes through hell then dies, common in soaps
was she never seen again after the bit where she was telling her mum she can’t go back to prison? I didn’t watch the show when she was in it. I only remember Rachel talking about her and naming her daughter after her
Anna Friel said that when she gave notice to leave the show the producers were raging that she was leaving at the height of her character's popularity. They threatened her if she left they would never have her back. She left straight away.
Barnabybright Well, I never knew that! It did feel kind of uncomfortable tho, suddenly not there anymore. I think I felt a bit cheated after investing so much time & emotion in her lol
Anna made the wrong decision to quit abruptly. She forced the bosses into an unwise decision to kill off the character. Somehow, they made the best of it with great acting, but Anna should have stayed until the two were set free and then moved on.
The title is the death of Beth and the first word is "Beth" and the officer says it's probably nothing so why the Hell would she be dead???? None of this makes any bloody sense!!
So she deserve to die like that because she and her mother deleted her father who was mo lesting her. Sound like Trevor was the one that deserve to died.
The tragedy of Mandy and Beth Jordache is absolutely unequalled in soap. Exceptional plotting, scripting and acting.

Not really... her grief is overacted and not in a good way.

I'm sure something controversial behind the scenes like,Anna friel tells the producer to fuck off and that's why she's was written out of the show.

Ahem... it was 1995. The Internet existed then. It just wasn't as common as it is today.
Beth death doesn’t make any sense. She didn’t deserve that final 😔
8:57 Really good acting by Michael Starke.
One of my earliest TV memories.
I can't believe I spent 4 straight hours watching Beth's journey...and she dies. Where they do that at!?
when is tv not killing lesbians?
@@paramini08 Straight characters die all the time on soaps.
@@smokeylee1986 Not as much as lesbian or black ones.
The warden was a bit wooden. Would’ve thought they’d have left off the end of part theme music, kind of intrudes on Mandy’s grief.
I'm not sure if Beth was on remand. She was most likely sentenced in May of this year
you're right. that was the case. she was on a five year stretch and this was the appeal
"It's up to you to finish the fight for her."
Cor blimey, that line hit different! 😢

Mandy sounds very like Emma Thompson
why did we not get to see her at all, strange what happened
Amanda Fenton Because Anna Friel refused to film these scenes

What did she die of?
Most likely an anxiety related illness.
Genetic heart condition that she didn't know she had apparently
@@stickman4189 cardiomyopathy- thickening of the heart muscular wall
She was rehearsing a show with her ventriloquist dummy and the dummy murdered her 🤡🤸🏼♀️
This scene was sad, and Rachel blamed herself when Sinbad told her about Beth

Why didn't we see her dead?
