We come, we come with roll of drum: ta-runda runda runda rom! We come, we come with horn and drum: ta-runa runa runa rom! To Isengard! Though Isengard be ringed and barred with doors of stone; Though Isengard be strong and hard, as cold as stone and bare as bone, We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door; For bole and bough are burning now, the furnace roars - we go to war! To land of gloom with tramp of doom, with roll of drum, we come, we come; To Isengard with doom we come! With doom we come, with doom we come!
30:40 You couldn't even take spectral procession with an inquisition. Since each mana symbol has the option of being a 2 instead, the CMC of spectral procession is 6.
drahydra yeah I saw this come up in a sabboth modern cube video today. Opponent attempting to Spell Queller a Procession and it did not work out so well. Seems to me the stack should see spell cost as how you cast it- if you cast procession for WWW then it should at least be counterable as a 3cmc. In this case though yeah while in hand I think it should be seen as 6cmc
Stephen Lofton Yeah, cmc on the stack is a little weird, and weird hybrid manas make it even worse lol. If the stack just saw how much you paid instead of what's printed on the card though it would make cost reduction stuff weird to interact with, not to mention phyrexian mana spells (those were just a mistake anyway lol).
I feel like I'm going to start a boycott of Saffrons videos if he doesn't stop conceding so early! It's infuriating to watch, and it sends the wrong message. You don't learn about magic and become a better magic player by scooping too early.
i honestly think he forgot about that. he doesn't pilot these decks too often. it is easy to critize from the seat of a viewer. although that one was pretty obvious.
In a straight forward deck like this there is almost no reason to concede so quickly. Only reason for conceding is saving time. And once you're in this mentality to concede quickly you actually overlook things like that which you may otherwise not have overlooked. And that has nothing to do with being a viewer or commentator. It's just his mentality and it is in my opinion hurting him. Simple as that.
Super glad you played this deck. My favorite tribe in all of Magic finally sees some love. They aren't great, not enough small lords, and green isn't super interactive, but a great fun deck no matter what. Play it. Become the Lorax. Speak for the Trees.
Honestly, it would have helped if this deck was actually tuned rather than thrown together. There should have been 3 timber protectors at most, 2 preferably. The Sapling, Nylea, and the Ash had no place here and should have been traded out for leaf-crown elder because of it's nuts synergy with the other treefolk ( and fulminator mage since they're both shamans). There isn't any need for so many shocks either since you're best land is the bosk which should have been prioritized over any of the others because it gives you any color you need. Overall, this just wasn't played well or built to its best.
Seth frequently scoops a little earlier than required. Unless I'm worried about revealing my deck composition in game 1, I always make my opponents play it out. Sometimes opponent just screw up combos.
I think you're supposed to side in the Fulminator versus Infect, no? Not only does it kill Inkmoths, but they run a low number of lands and many of which are non-basic.
That burn match was a litany of mistakes on both sides. I was screaming at my laptop when you allowed the shockland to come into play untapped and cast Timber Protector over just playing it tapped, casting Dourbark and likely winning.
After watching the games and seeing the list there seems to be many areas the deck could improve its win percentages. Drop mimic, nylea and 1 folk for cards with more interaction. As far as the sb goes, you can add in Leyline of sanctity, and some more discard.
"They should be able to block flyers, THEY'RE TREES!!" Hahaha that shit cracks me up. I'm honestly surprised how many games you won with this deck! Hilarious.
i really don't understand why you play 8 shocklands, especially with murmuring bosk (which is one of the main reasons to play this deck). Wouldn't it be better if you played only one temple garden and one overgrown tomb (o2 maybe 2 of each at most)? The fetchlands count as tri-land as long as you have both. Regarding green's weakness to combo, i really think you've been a bit unlucky in the matches you played, but if you put a bit more discard in the main (i didn't like nylea, she always sat in your hand) and sided heavily i think the deck has a lot potential (because it can do what midrange does to combo: a flurry of discard/removal spells and then you place strong standalone threats). Vs. combo i think you have to lose a bit of tribal synergy and play the midrange game
Reaction of the day 30:20: "The reason we did that there is because we couldn't have our opponent Spectral Procession there. We just straight up lose to Spe- n- you gotta be kidding me!"
We have one in the sideboard, maybe it's good enough to be a one-of in the main. It's a little annoying that it makes the creatures a 0/4 that blocks all of our 3/3's effectively.
More importantly, why didn't you bring it in against infect? Would have been amazing to tutor it up, and have your opponent groan knowing whatever they play will lose infect right after.
There are exactly 2 in a total of 66 Treefolk creatures that have reach, and one isn't modern legal because it was only released in commander decks. In fact, there are more humans with reach than literal tree people.
Oh C'Mon!! I was going to sleep tonight, how could you put up yet another awesome video? By the Theros Gods man you are a content-generating machine, you would win the Inventor's Fair just by presenting your TH-cam account! Could you at least stop being the most entertaining MTG personality in cyber-space!? (Now I will grudgingly watch yet another of your videos and totally complain into my bowl of ice cream the entire time.)
@aidenO There are log and chat windows normally, they are covered by the decklist and the info panel in post-processing of the video. So Seth doesn't see the deck name, he adds it to the video later.
Infect really got hurt by the banning of Gitaxian Probe, then the printing of Fatal Push (which made another removal spell that killed Inkmoth on the cheap) and then the threat of Solemnity in the sideboard.
Maybe it was correct to mulligan to 5 against infect? Or at least decline to search with the tutor so that you have a chance of drawing fatal push/discard? You can't win without interacting period.
How come people don't just play mindbreak trap in the board against storm? It's free, straight free. ??? I always wonder this. So if anybody can convince me why you wouldn't.... I'd appreciate all your great insight :)
as a ramp player, when you said genesis wave for 8 was a lot, I internally screamed, THAT'S NOT A LOT. I can frequently genesis wave for about 40 on a bad day.
personally i don't like metallic mimic and would rather have a Leyline of Sanctity, i feel like with the bodies of the treefolk they don't really need that other lord

"Goyf is like a bad dauntless dourbark" -Seth 2017
21:00 doran stops the land from pumping. You could've won that game.
Seth is generally scooping way too early imo.
I feel like I'm going to start a boycott of Saffrons videos if he doesn't stop conceding so early! It's infuriating to watch, and it sends the wrong message. You don't learn about magic and become a better magic player by scooping too early.
Yeah I was screaming this in my head lol.

stop scooping early!!!!
that kessig wolf run did nothing with doran out and you scoop anyway!!!
As long as Doran is on the table, Kessig doesn't kill you.
... What an interesting detail.
31:00 tried to Inquisition a Spectral Procession but it wouldn't work; it's cmc is 6.
"They're definitely bird height" - Seth (probably better known as SaffronOlive) 2017
You can say that first game sapped all of Seth's confidence
:p
Kesig-wolfrun was not going to kill you because the creature dealt damage equal to its defense
Seth frequently scoops a little earlier than required. Unless I'm worried about revealing my deck composition in game 1, I always make my opponents play it out. Sometimes opponent just screw up combos.
The opponent also missed some BoP buttbeats with Doran out.
anyway at 31:00 you cannot take spectral procession with inquisition because it costs six
Huh. This is true. I'm so use to people casting it for three mana I forgot all about that.
30:45 you can't inquisition procession anyways its CMC is 6 in hand. This is a common mistake I see both players make in paper.
Leaf-Crowned Elder would be hilarious in this deck
I think you're supposed to side in the Fulminator versus Infect, no? Not only does it kill Inkmoths, but they run a low number of lands and many of which are non-basic.
I miss the tower defense (abzan toughness) much abrew, that deck was soooo sweet.
That burn match was a litany of mistakes on both sides. I was screaming at my laptop when you allowed the shockland to come into play untapped and cast Timber Protector over just playing it tapped, casting Dourbark and likely winning.
How come no Leaf-Crowned Elders, Orchard Wardens and Garruk, Primal Hunter?
Been here since 10k, love your content keep it up. always gives me something to look forward to in the week.
30:50 Inquisition can't get Spectral Procession anyway. It's CMC 6.
What changes would you make to the side board knowing our bad match-ups now? Keep in mind you can use the harbinger to tutor warrior based solutions.
After watching the games and seeing the list there seems to be many areas the deck could improve its win percentages. Drop mimic, nylea and 1 folk for cards with more interaction. As far as the sb goes, you can add in Leyline of sanctity, and some more discard.

That face when opponent reveals his 11/11 Dauntless Dourbark - OMG it's SO. BIG.
i really don't understand why you play 8 shocklands, especially with murmuring bosk (which is one of the main reasons to play this deck). "Goyf is like a bad Dauntless Dourbark" - SaffronOlive, 2017
7:22 why play the dungrove elder there over dauntless dourbark into t4 double dungrove?
I was worried about getting blown out blocking if we didn't leave up a removal spell.
fair enough
I use to play treefolk in my early days of magic and I learned the deck needs a bird of paradise or something similar
I loved this against the odds!
what happen to the mana floated at upkeep on 25:45? float for green, become black for a while and it stayed until main phase?
Oh I got it. He probably considered fatal push, so he retapped for black, but let it go
Yeah, this is exactly what happened. A slight mistake still, since making black cost us a life. Should have been more decisive before hand.
10:13 why untapped?
Some of the lists from a while ago ran tree of redemption, before tree of perdition was printed.
Ah Doran. I still remember curving t1 hierarch, t2 doran, t3 rafiq and smashing for 14.
When he is playing can he not see the deck names at the top right? I've never played MTGO I only play the physical version so I wouldn't know
aidenO he puts the names up there after stream it doesn't show names in mtgo
Ahh ok thank you
Reaction of the day 30:20:
"The reason we did that there is because we couldn't have our opponent Spectral Procession there. We just straight up lose to Spe- n- you gotta be kidding me!"
I'm about 3 years late, but... no Leaf-Crowned Elder?
Play to your outs! Stop scoup so early!
37:40 "Opponent is still not understanding the meaning of trample..." that's just hilarious LOL
YEEEESSSSSSS been waiting so long for this against the odds
My question is how do treefolk not have reach? Flavor fail by R&D
Why no Lignify?
We have one in the sideboard, maybe it's good enough to be a one-of in the main. It's a little annoying that it makes the creatures a 0/4 that blocks all of our 3/3's effectively.
More importantly, why didn't you bring it in against infect? Would have been amazing to tutor it up, and have your opponent groan knowing whatever they play will lose infect right after.
*chuckle* IT'S SO BIG! - saffronolive 2017
Bobbynibbles that's what she said.
The deck that you crushed in Wall Mill! We've been waiting for this since wall mill!
Should have tutored for the 0/4 treefolk tribal enchantment in game 3 infect.
Being able to remove Infect keyword is really powerful on Lignify.
I think it was in the sideboard too.
Saffron,do you occasionally play any commander on your channel?
they played a lot, check out commander clash, season 3 now
25:46 you forgot to use the pain mana you floated! lol
what is this games name ? pls help.
37:51 I felt bad for him. I think he was a new player
He has a good point, why don't treefolks have Reach?
Cameron Worley there are a few with reach and not much else. (See duel decks mind vs might.
Because Wizards doesn't always put the obvious stuff on cards. Admittedly, there are plenty of cards that flavorfully should have keywords, but don't.
gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=139492
There are exactly 2 in a total of 66 Treefolk creatures that have reach, and one isn't modern legal because it was only released in commander decks. In fact, there are more humans with reach than literal tree people.
You need a 1 of Triumph of the Hordes, card is insane in treefolk
Deck wants to run a singleton nameless inversion: cheap removal you can tutor with the harbinger if you need to
Why didn't you Push the Resto after championing your treefolk in the match against Eldrazi&Taxes
Lorwyn, where the trees walk and get bigger than Eldrazi titans.
30:43 "We just straight up loose to Spectral Process... na... you've got to be kidding me!"

Cloudcrown Oak would help with those flyers, but it is not that special outside of that.
I feel like Mimic and Nylea would be much better off being replaced for some more Fatal Pushes or Discard.
this looks like what dinosaurs are going to look like in Ixalan, I suspect.
Cracked me up that treefolks should have reach because they're trees. Lol

@aidenO There are log and chat windows normally, they are covered by the decklist and the info panel in post-processing of the video. So Seth doesn't see the deck name, he adds it to the video later.
Dourbark is huge!!
That second burn game was hard to watch. You did so much damage to yourself.
Why no block game 1 against infect?
flyers, unblockable
pshh... Put flyers in.
yeah, he should have put some of those flying treefolk in.
Seth, do you talk like that in reallife and in paper Magic too?
This deck should be an abzan control style of deck
I don't really get why Seth freaked out at literally every spell the storm player cast, e.g. Sleight of Hand = "OHMAHGAWWWD".
How good would rule of law be against infect? They seem to be interested in casting multiple pump spells/infect creatures
Why Seth thought Infect was gone ? Maybe I didn't realise a ban or what ?
Hour of Devastation printed a card called Solemnity. It is an instant win against infect.
And also - The banning of probe hit the deck hard
Infect really got hurt by the banning of Gitaxian Probe, then the printing of Fatal Push (which made another removal spell that killed Inkmoth on the cheap) and then the threat of Solemnity in the sideboard.
Thank y'all for the reminder.
PS - so sad the Griselvine deck was not played on video.
Maybe it was correct to mulligan to 5 against infect? Or at least decline to search with the tutor so that you have a chance of drawing fatal push/discard? You can't win without interacting period.
OK I'll admit that can't win period was a bit of an exaggeration but it's gotta be close.
"our best hope is to win before we die"
Ummm Seth that is the point of magic xD
Storm was a mistake.
Cool. Treefolk.
Spectral Precession conts 6 so you cannon inquisition it away
Don't scoop so quickly everytime seth, the wolf run with doran doesnt work
I wish I can play you with my Homebrew
How come people don't just play mindbreak trap in the board against storm? It's free, straight free. ??? I always wonder this. So if anybody can convince me why you wouldn't.... I'd appreciate all your great insight :)
People think Storm is dead.
Srcsqwrn really? Hmm normally run into it in a tournament. That's just weird
Srcsqwrn Uh, storm is one of the top played decks (if not THE top played deck) in modern right now. Don't think many people think its dead.
as a ramp player, when you said genesis wave for 8 was a lot, I internally screamed, THAT'S NOT A LOT. I can frequently genesis wave for about 40 on a bad day.
And they said goyf is the biggest creature in modern...
OMG RIGHT?! Why don't treefolk have reach???? A cat climing a tree has reach but the tree doesn't... uhhg
"We're big and hard to deal with" seth 2k17
Let's Dor-In for 5
Opponent still not understanding the meaning of Trample lul
Does it bother anyone else that when Seth talks about card kingdom at the beginning he doesn't make it rhyme when he's like thaaaaaat close
llama dumpgaming huh? I heard that show below rhyme
Storm is deplorable.
This deck is begging for Spellskites
personally i don't like metallic mimic and would rather have a Leyline of Sanctity, i feel like with the bodies of the treefolk they don't really need that other lord
Lol, your opponents got pretty lucky..
Seth cackle ftw
37:10 That's what she said.
Infect seems like a mistake mechanic. Basically giving the opponent only 10 life instead of the normal 20 is busted. Seems incredibly unfun to play against.
JonathanSnow The thing that sucks for infect, just like boggles, if you don't hit the right cards you just lose.
Infect is interesting in design, but put it outside of it's safe scenario and it bursts.
I understand it's a glass cannon type of approach. Definetly hit or miss on the draw. But having the ability to only need to deal 10 damage instead of 20 is basically changing one of the bedrock rules of the game.
Nice Goyf, HaHaHa
YES! INFECT!
Night of soul's betrayal!!!
ahh mhh i can tell you 1 thing for my taste when you play a mono green list with a little bit ramp 1-2 less timber protector maybe only 1 doran to tutor with 4 Leaf-Crowned Elder 2-3 assault formation and some fed the clan in sideboard your deck would be better. when you play a list like this you can play hearthwood storyteller nice carddraw for you. and i don´t like your sideboard for treefolk when your wincondition is "green" big dudes you need to go all in.
All I can say is Treefolk deck + *Thoughtsieze* = you DESERVE every single loss you get!
Deck needs spellskite
It's not a Treefolk though!
How is it these trees don't have reach???? Bad flavor
