    Who would win?
    A Hedron Alignment, with a $1,000+ deck to support its game plan.

    Do you think Hedron Alignment would be more doable if its win trigger were end of turn or its ability was more than just a 2 mana scry?

  • @brewbrewbrewthedeck4138
    @brewbrewbrewthedeck4138 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Seth, someone here suggested Gifts Ungiven for the deck but then deleted their comment. I concur with that idea. You can do a lot with it like piles such as Hedron Alignment, Eternal Witness, Secret Salvage, Snapcaster Mage (assuming nothing else in the GY yard yet). Might make this deck more consistent. Secret Salvage could be cut down to a single copy this way and maybe going down some Grisly Salvages for the 4th Gifts and something else that goes better with GU.

    (Game around 39:00) Should have been a Hedron Alignment win (and not a Hedron Alignment scrying into another type of win win either).
    I am also just imagining the worst loss ever; chalice on 2 and on 3 and then not finding an Engineered Explosives. Nooooooo!
    That would be bad.

    @40:54 could you not have used Collective Brutality here to discard Hedron Alignment while the opponent was off of Scavenger Grounds mana? Or were you just worried about Simian Spirit Guide?
    EDIT: Just noticed Chalice was on 2. But you can still discard with Brutality even through Chalice, right?
    EDIT 2: I'm dumb. You only win on your own upkeep, huh.

  • @CaptainRuff
    @CaptainRuff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Hedron Alignment deck is far from optimized since I threw it together on a whim out of old stuff lying around, but I basically just use Jhoira to suspend Enter the Infinite and Time Crafting to make it pop when my opponents aren't ready for it. Then, once I've drawn all my Hedrons, it's fairly easy to get them where I need them to be. Using one on the battlefield to scry my way to my pieces is great too. The only trick is, I often just end up falling back on Lab Maniac if I go off too early. Though my one-off Omniscience and graveyard recycling makes going infinite with the couple of burn spells in the deck possible too.

    Can you make a paradox engine deck in standard like the one you made for aether revolt standard with something like pyramid of the pantheon in replace of hedron archive

  • @mave6602
    @mave6602 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Infernat Tutor could'Ve been the answer to your Hedron Problem or at least helps to find them more easily. Another option could've been Transmute spells and some sport of Defender Reanimation subtheme to finish in one go.
    Axebane Guardian, Doorkeeper and Drift of Phantasms could go in there for the defender theme because the ramp could help scrying through the deck to find the Hedrons while the other two help finding it while Doorkeeper also adds another win condition. Altough thats a bit more budget which could make it worse.
    But Infinity Mana could go nicely because of the scry manasink ability of Hedron.

    I mean this is pretty much what I expected from Hedron Alignment, but I am disappointed nontheless. I don't quite get why people vote for these kinds of decks. I've had a similar reaction when people were voting for eternal dominion. I feel like against the odds 100 / 0 is just not fun to watch. Perhaps some people just enjoy watching you suffer. Kudos to you for fighting through it, though.
    I mean in general, the (very few) games you've won would've been won by any BUG control shell while the Against the Odds card itself wasn't sweet nor helpful, didn't lead to something fun, it was just there.
    I personally did not enjoy this episode at all. Which I blame on the vote itself. Perhaps Hedron Alignment would be something for a different format, such as Penny Dreadful? But in general, this episode wasn't as enjoyable as I've wished to. But it was exactly what I was expecting.
    Please people reading this. Don't cast your votes on miserable cards. Fun cards are fine, but games like these are often just depressing to watch. Opponents flooding out and drawing duds for 5+ turns and a card not beating a single relic (honestly, if your opponents just hold the relic until you have one hedron alignment in grave and one in exile, they simply can't lose) is devastating to watch.
    Seth, keep being the way you are. You're doing a great job and I truly enjoy your content. I just do not enjoy spectating a deck that simply can not win, unless the opponents deck beats them.

    Couple of thoughts on your plays, Seth:
    1st Match: Probably should've brought in Pithing Needle, especially after game 2 when you knew about Nahiri. On turn 1 you can also name Elder and possibly screw their game plan if they kept a land-light hand.
    2nd Match: I think both in game 1 and 2 you should've ambushed Rabblemaster with Snapcaster. In game 1 that would've saved you 4 life and taken out their biggest threat. In game 2 mainphasing Snapcaster did literal nothing and, if anything, made things worse since you now couldn't surprise them with it anymore. We don't know if either would've been enough to stabilize but especially in game it would have bought you AT LEAST another round to find, say, Damnation. Also, you shouldn't have scooped there since that was still an out. Still a bit too prone to not play even if there is hope.
    3rd Match: Siding out Collective Brutality was clearly a mistake against a spell-heavy deck with creatures that get hit by it (Small Goyf, Tracker, Snappy, BBE, ...).
    4th Match: Going down Thoughtseize against Burn is a bad idea. Yes, yes, it costs you two life but if you get a burn spell out of their hand with it that still effectively gains you 1 or 2 life (or more if it's something recurring like Goblin Guide/Eidolon/Lavamancer).
    5th Match: In game 2 you might've wanted to mainphase Thought Scour in case you draw something like Thoughtseize or another Thought Scour. Also, I know you wanted to win via Hedron but you should've started attacking earlier once they were down to just the Mimic. Aside from that you kept some cards on top after scrying that were stone-dead because of Chalice (e.g. Collective Brutality). As far as sideboarding was concerned, boarding out Thoughtseize instead of Inquisition seems like a bad idea considering that the latter doesn't hit their biggest threats like Reality Smasher or Thought-Knot Seer. And with those you also have more time to draw/mill+Snapcaster into discard.
    Overall, I don't think that it's clear that you'd have won more if you'd played tighter but still, it would've increased your chances at least.

    Is it pronounced "he-dren" or "he-drawn"? I also pronounced it the later way because of the logical o-sound at the end. I never thought there was an e-sound where the o is in Hedron.

  • @AlexanderQ689
    @AlexanderQ689 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    In match 2, game 1, you should have tried to ambush Rabble Master on their turn. It would also mean they have to cash in relic on their turn, for less efficient mana use. Also, it's confusing when you refer to Collective Brutality's hand-disruption mode as "duress"; it's not the same effect.
    Why not block Goyf with Tasigur game 2?

      Zach Harris Yes and no. Commune gets you a HA back in hand, but its sorcery speed. Of the two, id be using Commune holding up a counter, and run mainboard Surgical Extraction over that 5 mana card he is using. Noxious revival would be a good addition.

    So with manlands make sure u enter combat and wait for ur opponent to cryptic u when they r telligraphing it then after the cryptic resolves u have priority to turn on ur manland and then move to declare attackers. It's easy to miss and shortcut but don't with triple blue and 1 up. Just don't want u to lose games because of it in the future😚

    Just the worst rare from the BFZ block (saying something) played next to the worst rare from the Kaladesh block. Did we ever expect anything else? Even Prism Array at least interacts with one creature once sometimes XD The fact it happened even ONCE was stunning XD

  • @robertuzumaki5974

    I think Hedron alignment want more a Control shell, where Hedron alignment is Just Like a backdoor wincondition, and If you dont win with it, the scry is actually fine, that its still a usefull card.

  • @GerBessa
    @GerBessa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seth, you needed to let the smasher resolve against Serum Eldrazi, target it with something and discard the hedron.

    Wouldn’t blood moon destroy a valkult deck when built like that? Seems a bit counterintuitive since it stops its own deck lol

  • @jankasmann4042
    @jankasmann4042 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i dont think you can go for hedron alignment win and still try to play a fair interactive game. Should just go full in on the win and play lots more cantrips. Serum powder would actually be a good inclusion to get the free exile with an alignment in hand

  • @petersmythe6484
    @petersmythe6484 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please play this deck again (even with some tweaks if you come up with anything) when you at a loose end regarding what to play.
    If Hedron Alignment could be played as a four of (as a special rule, just like relentless rats has in some formats) in Commander that would also be amusing, you just need to make allies until you win out of nowhere (LOL).

    Why dont you just use Surgical Extraction to exile one of two copies of HA in your graveyard? Seems more convoluted than it needs to be.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting a copy exiled is pretty easy (Tasigur, Logic Knot, Murdurous Cut all do it with delve), the problem is somehow drawing all four copies, which is where Secret Salvage is helpful.

    Since this is already a super jank list, why not run a single laboratory maniac and a copy of memory’s journey? It seems to be a fun and even jankier back up win condition to the deck as it is only a 2 card package that fits in perfectly with the deck.

    I brewed a version of the Hedron alignment deck in legacy once. It was Blue/white and played like a control deck most of the time. One for one removal, board wipes, and counterspells. I never was able to build it due to budget, but the dream play is pitching the final Alignment to a Force of Will to win.
