- The Aeropress is still the most popular immersion press brewer in the world, but is it time to hail a new king?
I bought the Delter Press years ago and I watched another popular coffee TH-camr teach me how to use it. Only, he didn't really know how to use it and tried to use it like an Aeropress. But it isn't an Aeropress, its something better! So I reached out to the actual inventor and got a lesson from him instead.
THE DELTER COFFEE PRESS is more precise without having to use precision equipment and far superior to handle, in my opinion. Why would I use the Aeropress again? Maybe to go in a competition but if I'm going out camping or hiking or even just wanting a beautifully balanced coffee brew made with ease, then I'm using the Delter Press.
I got to sit down with the inventor of the Delta Press and not only did he tell us his process of creating a more efficient immersion method, but he also made my new coffee blend in development taste amazing with his recipe guide.
One thing that really bugs me is the power that one person on TH-cam can have to destroy the appeal of a brewer like this without even understanding how to use it. At least now, I've been able to give Mark a platform to correctly show how this brewer should be used and why it is indeed not just "Another Aeropress"

I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently in each farm, in each region, in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.
About Ryd!
In a world where coffee has become elitist and over-the-top hipster, Ryd is on a mission to make specialty coffee inviting and undiscriminating; creating a community of coffee lovers who want to share their thoughts, ask questions and appreciate that we are all on a journey uncovering the delights of home-brewed coffee.
Honest opinion: Having owned both for years now (as many years as the Delter Press has been out, anyways) I have a couple issues with Delter that prevent it from being my daily driver: the o ring on the piston is thin and can get damaged easily, which causes leaks. Also, the necessity of using the cap to avoid burning yourself is an issue. Finally, the Aeropress just brews a nicer cup, not to mention can be used for a myriad of brew methods. It's not that the Delter isn't a capable brewer, it's that it has flaws, whereas the Aeropress has set an incredibly high bar. Just my opinion, but for my day to day brewing, I'm reaching for my Aeropress.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I never use the cap but I don't put my palm over the hole and only use my finger to press down. I find my aeropress seal got more stuff and harder to press than the Delter so it's interesting to hear your experience. I do agree the aeropress is more versatile for brewing but I do love the Delter for filters.
After playing with mine over last few weeks I do a fine to medium grind around 83clicks of my grinder. 20 grams coffee. 200ml boiled water then press 50ml and let bloom 30 seconds, next 50 and again 30 second rest . Repeat until all water through. Takes around 4 minutes to complete but end result is a nice strong and incredibly clean brew. No fines, mud, dust to be seen.
I still prefer the Aeropress. You can use anything from espresso to course grinds as well, and I can always add more water to the mug after pressing to mellow the coffee out, thus creating a larger brew.
I dunno. I'm happy with how the Aero brews and don't see that changing anytime soon.
Very true. I think also, the latest Aeropresses are great and much improved.
Aeropress is still amazing especially with the new flow control
Once you press the first pre-infusion of 50 ml for 30 sec how many additional seconds do I wait before pressing the second/final dose all the way through?
It's up to you and he wants people to play with new recipes but he recommends the whole time to extract being around the 2:30-3min mark. So, 30s for the pre, you could wait 30s then push the rest through in 1min intervals. 👌 I've been doing 50+100+50 and that has a beautiful taste. Let me know yours!
Offscreen he actually mentioned he'd love to do what aeropress has and start some brewing comps so people can play with recipes.
I made a brew with 21 grams of coffee ground and the finer end of coarse setting of my grinder. 300 ml of water adding 1st 50 ml and waiting 30 seconds to bloom then added another 50 through and again paused for 30 seconds. Repeating until all water through. Nice strong brew with exceptional clarity and full of flavours. I'm going to dial the grind finer by a click each time to see how fine it can be before it's too hard to push through the stainless steel filter that mine has and before I get sediment/ fines in my cup
Can I see the complete workflow for the delter press? Make it as a short or something
I do love me some filter blend.
Yep I'll make a short 😊 thanks!
@@Rydecoffeecoach oh yeah, include washing please
First of all, just want to say this is a great product. I'm the creator of the Joepresso attachment for AeroPress which started off with a similar problem, changing the immersion brewer to a percolation brewer. I was interested in producing an espresso shot where as this is geared to filter coffee
Recently, I've been experimenting with non-pressurized baskets to do the same thing as described in this video, making a filter coffee.
I find that the recipe described, ~3 minute brew works well for darker roasts and coffee that is easier to extract. For lighter roasts, the lack of agitation creates really under extracted cups. I find myself adding agitation, decreasing the grind size by a lot, and increasing the brew time, up to 10 min to get a good cup.
We should do a video comparing the two products!
Yeh that would be awesome! 🙌
@@Rydecoffeecoachawesome, I'll reach out to you
I actually gave my Delter away to a friend because it produced a weaker brew than my Aeropress. Not to mention the cumbersome cleanup :D
Everyone on here comments on the clean-up but I honestly experience the opposite. I have more mess left over from the aeropress than the delter 🤷
As for the weaker coffee, the delter is definitely more for filter and light roasted coffees whereas the aeropress works for espresso roasts too.
one of my Fav coffee brewing method 🙌😍
So good!
22gr of coffee and only 200ml of water? No bypass? Isn’t it too bold?
I think 22g is extreme case but you would just keep adding water. I think 15g is perfect for the full 200g water but I can see how you may want to increase the ratio (or decrease) if you were using a different roast.
Hi there mate - you can continue to add more water and plunge. For 22 grams of coffee I would be using somewhere around 350mL water.
why don't you just put a weight on the top so its a gravity push. beats baby sitting the darn thing
Good idea! His Trinity One actually does exactly that which is why I love it so much.
I used the delta, it's a horrible and xtremly messy against the aeropress and the coffee not as nice
Interesting. I've had the opposite experience: much easier and cleaner to use and a nicer more balanced extraction.
@@Rydecoffeecoachtake the L bro, this thing is terrible compared to the Aeropress. The king is still alive and well…
This is pretty cool... but no, the King Aeropress is not dead. This is more complicated to use. You'll get a following but people won't be ditching their aeropresses.
Ill buy first press-like plastic brewer that is actually bloody BIG. The main reason why i dont use aero and delta as much as dollar store v60 is bc they are smol. Ofc i can brew high dose and bypass, but if i want paper- filtered immersion - wowe, or filter a french (which sucks) or drink a smol dose. And ofc if u want some none bypass coffee for two or god forgive THREE people - u are in deep. So if u really want to beat ap a little - go do something at least 600ml.
I dunno why aeropress don't make that. Not everyone is looking to buy the aeropress for travel 😂. I really like the aeropress but it doesn't make enough coffee for two people. I have the large size clever dripper for that
Fair point. 👌
Aeropress XL might be for you!
Hi there mate - actually the Delter Press is a good pick for larger batches as you can just continue to add water and brew 400mL or more. You can dose up to 28 grams of coffee which should be good for nearly 500mL. In fact there will soon be an accessory that you can use to further increase coffee capacity (and water). No need for a larger chamber for this method of brewing since it is not immersion and relying on all grounds and water mixing at once.
@@markfolker4642 well, they already launched aeropress xl so that's better fit 4 me
First, if you want to see how much this really DOES look like an Aeropress, compare it to an Aeropress Clear, not the Aeropress Go like these guys did.
Very nice should be called the Oz press! 😊
😂😂 brilliant! I'll pass that along! ❤️
That´s an Aeropress but bigger XD
Buy this instead. Bum advice. Aeropress is far superior to this unit. Much more sturdy materials. Much easier to clean. Way easier to use. Cheaper. So many world championship recipes to follow. Hard to make a bad cup with AP.
"easier to use" ??? have you tried brewing two+ cups of coffee with the Aero? I can brew two cups with the delta in less time than it takes to brew one cup in the Aero. even if you use pour over. But to each his own - I guess - cheers
Yeh I feel the same about the delter, it's so quick and easy and clean but others find it harder. 🤷
Using a Delter twice a day now for 2 years after many years using an aeropress... Delter is quicker to prep and clean, easier to use, consistent cup every time AND my one is still working perfectly. My two Aeropresses wore out: plastic degraded inside, the filter cover gets loose/leaky, and required a few replacement bungs.
cheap knockoff. totally copied AEROPRESS.
Rip off of the Aeropress.
ye ye... old news... come back when there will be an international competition on delta press... 🥱🥱
