I live in NM & I'm an avid stillwater flyfisher. Here's a rule I live by: No movement, No strike! I don't know how many times I advise somebody to "bounce dat bad boy" LoL. & still they don't continue w/it. Bounce it, long strip, short strip, pause it long/short time, jerk it, side to side, etc. Too many guys using "bait" fishing style & watching indicator like a baited bobber LoL. Thanx for the great info 👍
Phil is the ultimate Lake Guru. I took some of his information and ran with it.The last 4 years I catch the biggest trout 3 times and 2nd once. One big derby win on Vancouver Island. Thanks Phil.
great video, i've always been a bait slinger and finally want to dip my toes into fly fishing. Lakes are easier to get to and fish where I live, so this was a great video. Thank you!
One thing they don't say is always, always, ALWAYS start and the winded shoreline of a lake. Cooler water and invertebrates always follow the current of the wind.
Wondering what length of leader was used? With your floating line and your 3ips Line I'm curious if we are fishing a drop off of 20 ft with strike indicator set up what length leader and tippett would suffice?
interesting. i mnever caught anything in stillwater (because body of water is huge and it's much harder to spot "fishy" water) , but it has some potential
@@newflyfisher No problem. I seem to notice that the vast majority of fishing resources pretty much anywhere always default to boat fishing to some degree, despite the vast majority(80% or more, probably) of anglers and fishermen being locked to shore because they don't have access to a boat for some reason.
Hey guys. There's a gentleman who I would consider a fly fishing God. Who I'm sure you are familiar with his name is Ben Turpin. I would love to see you do a show with him included. I taken many guy trips from him. And I've caught my biggest trout on fly line with him
IDK how i feel about fishing lakes. I have found some really good lakes where i catch 5+/hour but i enjoy river fishing more. Finding fish in rivers is much easier than flat water bodies but the fish in lakes are usually bigger.
Experienced still water fishermen was just trolling a floating bumblebee fly and I seen him yank up a decent sized rainbow every few minutes. Had no need to even cast

A superb video! Well illustrated, comprehensive, informative and clear.
I definitely want to fish lakes more often. Thanks for the info, learned some new terminology as well.

Where'sTheSauce? So the downwind side? Or the upwind?
They follow the food the wind pushes.
That big brown is the usual catch out of my inner city river
I recognize some of those lakes.
Thanks Phil, Another great informative video.

You want to try and have your fly within a foot of the bottom, so if it is 20 feet, then set it for 19 feet.
Great show! Thanks for doing it. One question.. what size leader tipped you recommended? 1x, 2x or 3x?
Good advise. I needed that - thanks!

Great Joe! Be sure to let us know how you do next time! Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part!

Does the Orvis Lending Center have guides on fly fishing lakes from the shore?
not yet perhaps this coming season we can address that. thanks for feedback

How do I get rid of that annoying popup on the bottom of the screen? I won't even look at their website!
You should be able to click on the top right of the banner to get rid of it?
@@newflyfisher, yes, that works; but it returns innumerable times. Terribly annoying...

Since when have we started calling bobbers " strike indicators"?
Sounds like a marketing term lol
Oh yea “for beginners my recommendation is to spend $300 on line and get 3 reels” yea okay thanks for no help and wasting my time
