GREAT REVIEW!! I have one. FYI, Tonal's official method of doing the RDL is while facing the machine for safety (so that it doesn't pull you into the machine during an accident). Also there is another way to disengage the digital weight during a session; just tilt the bar asymmetrically in one direction and the machine will automatically think you are having problem and let go of the weights.
This is a great review, but one thing the Tonal sales rep don’t tell you, is that once you cancel the monthly membership, they also take away the different weight modes as smart flex, eccentric and burn mode, which is misleading because those are features the machine should be able to let you use regardless of keeping membership or not. It’s a nice machine.
This is literally the only reason I am not buying one. I bet a lot of people are like me, so imagine how much money they could be making if the membership was actually optional, not required. I mean, I wouldn't even pay $5/month for the machine to have full functionality. That should come with the $3k price tag. The only thing the membership should offer are classes. 🤷♀️
@@GirlyButScrappy yes it would be great if the monthly membership was free. But I think people are not understanding that this is suppose to replace going to the gym. Which means there's a market for people who would pay the same amount in membership to get it at Home. This is objectively a really good home fitness machine. Based on the functionality and capabilities, the execution is almost perfect. The biggest negative is that you're obligated to pay $60 per month or else you lose all but the most basic functionality. That could be worth it if you're really into home fitness. I'd like to know what exactly are the features I'd lose if I cancelled the subscription, and just as importantly, what features will be left. Also, after spending over $3000 for the machine itself, I think that $49 a month is a very high asking price. For $3k, it really should come with everything I need to keep fit. Why should I pay extra each month for the stuff I need to actually fully take advantage of something I paid for? It's like the initial (steep) $3k+ is nothing more than a membership fee...
I couldn’t agree more! I was sent this video by one of the Tonal agents to show me a review of someone that “doesn’t” necessarily need some of the functions that come with the membership, but seems to appreciate them anyway. I’m still not convinced, and your sentiments are almost verbatim what I expressed to the agent. Ok they want to get an extra $600 for 1 year ok…but then if you cancel you lose a lot of the functionality of the machine is BOGUS and in my opinion kind of crooked. I made a suggestion of a tiered subscription for people who still want to keep the functionality, but just don’t want all of the workouts and extra stuff that comes with the membership. She told me that they don’t have any plans for a tiered subscription. SUCKS!
@@JonathanTurner1998 of course they would send you this review, unfortunately. He is sponsored by them so his came to him free of charge. Hence why he never says whether the subscription is good or bad. I like honest and real opinions not one that is based off of someone being sponsored.
@@JonathanTurner1998 My main issue is the subscription price. I mean there are a few gyms around me that have $10 memberships and $20 memberships. So for me I can justify this machine being a replacement for the gym and $10 up to $20 a month is acceptable and I wouldn't complain. But $49 a month? I don't think I have a gym around here that charges that much. If there was it would be the gym I avoid lol So mentally it's a roadblock for sure. But this is Tonal 1.0 and if the price can be reduced for version 2.0, and more consumers buy one, the monthly price will go own. It's all about volume. Thousands of people paying $10 a month basically forever is much more profitable than a few hundred paying $50 monthly and always thinking about cancelling. Overall I'm excited for this product, but more so for future iterations.
@@bushboy8156 It comes with the straps and cables, just not with the bar, rope, bench and ability to wirelessly turn on/off the weight. But when he said it was 3500, that included all of the accessories. Regarding the $50/month I think everyone is under playing what you get for the $50. First of all, it's unlimited accounts so the entire family and friends can use it with their own account. It comes with hundreds of workouts and multi-workout programs, live workouts and it also knows your weights so no setting. It also adjust to your strength and will constantly adjust the weight. It gives you detailed progress and strength scores as well as so much more. It's the subscription features that really make this something special. If you are the type of person who just wants to do your own thing, sure you can do that, but I think for the vast majority of users, it's the subscription that motivates them and makes the difference. Last, even if you are a workout fanatic, you are likely working out by doing what you like all the time. On Tonal, with the workouts, you will be doing many more movements and working out muscles you were neglecting before. The workouts are similar to what you would do with a personal trainer. They include stretching before and after, motivation and many of the workouts include intense cardio too.
he doesnt just look like he works out he is an awesome fitness icon in my opinion. have followed you since your early instagram rise Paul. i strive to be as fit as you as i get older. i hope they add more accessories such as a curl bar and d-handle for single pulley lat pulldowns; and it would be great if there were a way to do low rows for back.
Don’t do it, set up a nice pull up bar and dips. Do these 3 times a week rest 45 seconds between exercises after last one test 3 mins and do it 3 times. This is base exercise you can make it more difficult as it gets easier after a month or so. If your to fat then just buy a bicycle and check your food avoid bread, anything fried, anything sweet drink plenty of water. And workout 4 to 5 times a week. Cheat day sundays. 10 pull ups 10 chins up 20 dips 25 jumping squats 20 push ups 50 crunches 10 burpees 30 seconds jumping squats
Me too! I’m about to buy one for my new condo, and I don’t mind the cost as well and the size because it makes sense to fit something like this in a condo as well lol

Your review is outstanding. Truly answered all of my questions. You are clearly in shape-I think the 200 pounds makes some of us think its not meant for lifting etc-Howe ver after seeing your resistance and ability to work out on this really made a difference in my perception of the unit. Instead of being a gimmick-it has real world use age and can keep everyone in good shape following with good eating habits etc. Thank you for the review.
Just got one not long ago. I can rep about 135 -145 bench in a gym but pretty sure if I set Tonal to 110 that bar would have smacked me in the face lol. The resistance seems to be more than they give it credit for. I love it so far though.
I know everyone is concerned about subs.. I but I think it’s how u get good content . I have a peloton and it tools me ahold to buy one but it was worth it when I made the leap.. this looks worth it
Helpful review. Question: what is maintenance/ repair like? Digital/ tech eventually will break down, screen light will go out or get broken. What is warranty like, and how to repair?
For those who are upset with the $50 monthly subscription fee, look at Orange Theory or some of the other trainer assisted classes. They run $125 to $150 a month and you have to drive to get there and be around 20 other sweaty heavy breathing customers. To me, the subscription fee is cheap. However the $3,500 up front cost of the machine is where they get you. With Orange Theory, Spenga and the others you are not actually paying for anything up front. Just the monthly fee for classes. If you finance this machine and have a monthly finance fee + $50 monthly subscription fee it probably adds up to the same cost as Orange Theory and some of the others but you get more diversified work outs and the convenience (and cleanliness) of your home. Plus lots of different types of work outs - not the same thing over and over and over again like Orange Theory.
It would’ve been awesome if the arms adjusted automatically based on the exercise.. in addition of manually doing it… I imagine that would be in the next version of Tonal.
I watch your videos and there’s no doubt that you know what you’re doing. Love this demonstration - the best part for me is that we can do the equivalent of a pull up - for many of us home workout guys, we don’t have a way to do a pull up. Also, the chest fly exercise - I’ve had 2 frozen shoulders, so getting into the fly position itself can be tough. Thanks for the demo!
It looks really cool. The only thing that is holding me back is the $50 monthly subscription. I already have a peloton subscription and a zwift subscription and didn't want to add another subscription to this unit.
The subscription model is a scam. I was 100% going to buy this machine until I read about the subscription requirement to access the full functionality of this machine. $50 per month is more than most gym memberships. I want home gym equipment for convenience and to SAVE money, not take up room in my house and spend as much as I would on a gym membership. I get it, they created this library of content but that doesn't justify a $50/month price tag. Netflix, Spotify, Hulu, countless other streaming content providers charge around $10 per month. There's no reason Tonal can't charge a similar price to access their content. Especially with a $3000 price tag on the machine itself. This would be like Netflix forcing you to buy a $3000 TV and then charge you $50 per month to watch content on it. Complete and absolute greed.
I agree with part of your comment. If I was a young athlete as I once was, this machine would probably not be much help to me. But, as I've gotten older and have a little more affluence, and am no longer trying to hit home runs, this machine marks off all the boxes for me. And it's a numbers game, as more people would rather watch Netflix, thus driving down the prices, than workout consistently on a fitness machine.
Agreed! I was seriously considering this machine and even have the perfect spot for it but $49 a month is 3 times the cost of the average gym membership near me and they all also have other equipment and amenities this doesn’t have.
Having the instruction is worth it to me. Much cheaper than a personal trainer. I realize it’s not personalized, but having a plan and verbal cues and video instructions during the workout helps make sure you are doing it correctly. I realize it’s a lot of money, but a start up company needs to recurring revenue to survive, and I want Tonal to succeed and continue to produce new content.
Definitely seems to be worth it. What I'm most interested in is the time and energy savings. Lots of time (and Joules of energy) in the gym is spent moving between exercises and loading/unloading weights.
That’s a great point. Travel time. Wait time for equipment to free up. Then the weight changing time as you mentioned. Plus you can do it whenever. Very convenient
Great review. I'd buy one tomorrow if it wasn't for the subscription fees. At $50 a month, that's $600 a year. And $6000 over the next 10 years. Pretty pricey.
Noway in hell I'd buy this unless I just had 600.00 to waste. First, you literally need a wide open spacious wall. For 600 bucks, you can get everything you need to build muscle, lose weight or build cardio.
My only exercises where I wish there was more weight are deadlift and squat. Besides that, even though I bench 250+, I am still working very hard. It’s a great piece of equipment
Looks great. I'm considering it, but I don't like the required subscription. No recurring membership fees is one of the best things about working out at home. It's unclear to me exactly how much functionality is lost without the subscription.
I talked to someone at the company and they said the subscription is required for one year after that you can cancel and you can still use it as a weight machine that will just have no video.
@@Mr_Millionaire_Mindset I read elsewhere that you also lose the Spot, Chain and the other weight resistance features. Pretty big deal there... I get the videos but the others are total function features that should remain. It’s all digital, I could see them creating other types of features with a simple download. Wonder if you can hack it
awesome review. one thing i would of liked to know was what do you normally bench and squat at the gym just to get an idea of the digital vs gravity weight comparison.
Excellent review and demonstration. Thank you. I’m going to struggle to accept a residual membership payment. I like the comment shared by a user about being able to disengage weight if bar or balance is asymmetrical. I’m interested in seeing a over the shoulders squat demonstrated. I personally hate front squats.
Great review and demo workout. Mine will arrive week of December 13th and I am looking forward to diving in. I think I am going to be surprised at the low weights I will be starting out with as it appeared to really test you while you lifting. Thanks for the intel and tips.
Can you elaborate a little more about what you lose if you cancel the subscription? What are the main differences that I will notice using the unit with and without the subscription? Thank you
Does it take the place of literally everything in a gym? Or you still need some other stuff? Like you didn't show curls and so on. And what about abs? Specific abs. Of course you can do those other ways. Just curious.

Btw you need to buy all the straps and cables to actually use the machine too. Lol. It doesn't come with the box
If there was it would be the gym I avoid lol
So mentally it's a roadblock for sure.
They’re installing mine tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back in shape.
I just got mine today. It’s truly amazing.
Awesome review, plus finally a reviewer who actually looks like he works out. Subscribed.
Coop wouldn't like this comment
he doesnt just look like he works out he is an awesome fitness icon in my opinion. have followed you since your early instagram rise Paul. i strive to be as fit as you as i get older. i hope they add more accessories such as a curl bar and d-handle for single pulley lat pulldowns; and it would be great if there were a way to do low rows for back.
This video Definitely makes me wanna purchase this system
Don’t do it, set up a nice pull up bar and dips. Do these 3 times a week rest 45 seconds between exercises after last one test 3 mins and do it 3 times. This is base exercise you can make it more difficult as it gets easier after a month or so. If your to fat then just buy a bicycle and check your food avoid bread, anything fried, anything sweet drink plenty of water. And workout 4 to 5 times a week. Cheat day sundays.
10 pull ups
10 chins up
20 dips
25 jumping squats
20 push ups
50 crunches
10 burpees
30 seconds jumping squats
It's like 3k lol and that's without their membership
Me too! I’m about to buy one for my new condo, and I don’t mind the cost as well and the size because it makes sense to fit something like this in a condo as well lol
I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago, but there is a 90 day back order wait time 😒. I'm dying to try it out, and your video was the most in depth and thorough I have seen in yt. Thx bud
This looks like a super complicated product to manufacture and to control the supply chain as well as installation and everything has to be logistically complex. We are all spoiled with Amazon and other massive companies delivering at the push of a button. Be patient 😎
I’m going to need this. Great review.
Best review i have yet to see
Your review is outstanding.
This man is jacked as hell, & he did a great demo, so I just subbed ✌
Really appreciate your detailed demo of Tonal. We are waiting for ours to be delivered and set up.
This is exactly the type of review I was looking for. Very informative, thanks!
Just got one not long ago. I can rep about 135 -145 bench in a gym but pretty sure if I set Tonal to 110 that bar would have smacked me in the face lol. The resistance seems to be more than they give it credit for. I love it so far though.
Thanks man! Trying to get to your level one day!
I would buy this if it wasn’t for the mandatory subscription it looks cool
I think he’s right that $50 subscription will get you to actually use it.
@@Slowhand871 yeah if you’re unmotivated
I know everyone is concerned about subs.. I but I think it’s how u get good content . I have a peloton and it tools me ahold to buy one but it was worth it when I made the leap.. this looks worth it
Thank you man! I just ordered mine and waiting now, and trying to find videos on learning how to use it!
Helpful review. Question: what is maintenance/ repair like? Digital/ tech eventually will break down, screen light will go out or get broken. What is warranty like, and how to repair?
I swore I wouldn't want this when I first saw it advertised. Now I want it.
Great video. The demo was awesome
My estimated ship week is next week. Super excited to get started.
I had wished there was a machine like this couple days ago and to my surprise it shows up on Facebook definitely interested in buying it
Wow
Nicely Put Together Generation X Home 🏡 Gym Equipment!!!
Definitely getting this! Appreciate you bro.
We did a demo with one tonight and are definitely getting one!
Fantastic Demo. thank you....seriously thinking about getting this for me and my wife..
I shouldn't have laughed that hard at vicious chest pump@ 9:07😂😂😂
It would’ve been awesome if the arms adjusted automatically based on the exercise.. in addition of manually doing it… I imagine that would be in the next version of Tonal.
Thought about getting a Tonal. Got a FreeMotion Dual Cable EXT Crossover machine instead. No subscription needed. Neither one was cheap.
I just purchased this and you make me feel better about my purchase
It looks really cool. The only thing that is holding me back is the $50 monthly subscription. I already have a peloton subscription and a zwift subscription and didn't want to add another subscription to this unit.
great demo
Bro this is so awesome thank you!
Just got ours installed today! Just did the weight setup and so far it seems good.
Awesome. How long was your delivery? I see people mention it took months after they began paying. Cheers 👊
Definitely will purchase it this is exactly what I was looking for … thanks for such a good video
Complete and absolute greed.
absolutely
You may have to do more of a workout to make up for that but it will be more trackable exercise maybe?
Thank you for this candid review.👊🏾
Great demonstration of Tonal product! Thanks for sharing.
Nice review and nice kitchen :-)
Great review. I'd buy one tomorrow if it wasn't for the subscription fees. At $50 a month, that's $600 a year. And $6000 over the next 10 years. Pretty pricey.
Noway in hell I'd buy this unless I just had 600.00 to waste. First, you literally need a wide open spacious wall. For 600 bucks, you can get everything you need to build muscle, lose weight or build cardio.
So. . How much for 20 years?
You can cancel it after 12 months and still use the machine for any workout you want.
excellent review
Great presentation, I’m sold
My only exercises where I wish there was more weight are deadlift and squat. Besides that, even though I bench 250+, I am still working very hard. It’s a great piece of equipment
How much are you benching on the tonal if you don't mind me asking?
This is a very well done review and demonstration! I've had mine for just over 3 months and love it, best investment I've made for fitness.
Hey Eagle how’s it gojng? Has your strength score gone up?
@@CoachHeyward Yes it has. I started at 484 and my current score is 743 (+53%)
@@eaglefangfitness4423 Nice!! How do you like the programs and classes?
@@vonettadevo I am really enjoying the new Tony Horton program and have been showing it on my own channel
Yup I’m about to invest in this
Digital weights and a digital spotter friend. That's awesome!
This looks amazing…would definitely have purchased if it were available in the U.K.
@@debbievillalta4397 so you can basically pay $756 for it and just have no video?
@@Mr_Millionaire_Mindset I read elsewhere that you also lose the Spot, Chain and the other weight resistance features. Pretty big deal there... I get the videos but the others are total function features that should remain. It’s all digital, I could see them creating other types of features with a simple download. Wonder if you can hack it
Like your style and respect and much appreciate your honesty
i like that not haveing to think about it at all
awesome review. one thing i would of liked to know was what do you normally bench and squat at the gym just to get an idea of the digital vs gravity weight comparison.
Thank you for your review. Very thorough and helpful. I wish I could afford this.
Great review and demo workout. Mine will arrive week of December 13th and I am looking forward to diving in. I think I am going to be surprised at the low weights I will be starting out with as it appeared to really test you while you lifting. Thanks for the intel and tips.
When did you order? Just ordered mine yesterday and I’ve seen people say it’s taken 6 months. Hope that’s not the case!
@@pjrich85 I see that as well. Have you received yours yet?
Great review
What microphone are you using. Sounds awesome on headphones
Have you tried the Speediance? I’m torn between the tonal and speediance!
Very much enjoyed your review.
Thank you
Really nice review thank you!
Does the tonal help with muscles imbalance. For example if your right arm is weaker than your left, will the resistance increase on your weaker arm
Better reviews than garage gym reviews, keep it up Paul
Excellent review.
Thank you!
Much appreciated!
Can you elaborate a little more about what you lose if you cancel the subscription? What are the main differences that I will notice using the unit with and without the subscription? Thank you
Excellent review!
Great vid..
I already have a peloton subscription now i gotta get a tonal subscription… unbelievable
Great video thanks for your review
Thank you for demonstrating
Great video and I appreciate you going through the lifts you did to show that it can do it
I'm sold. Wish it was available in the EU
Does it take the place of literally everything in a gym? Or you still need some other stuff? Like you didn't show curls and so on. And what about abs? Specific abs. Of course you can do those other ways. Just curious.
