10:30 My theory about this scene in combination with the imagery displayed in the latest trailer; it's foreshadowing. There is an alternate timeline created when Betty as Magic Women changed the departure date on her past self's busticket (episode: "Temple of Mars", causing her and Simon to never get together. In this reality Simon never wore the crown, as the first time he did this was to amuse Betty. The crown does not provide Simon with it's protective power of frost and Simon dies at the start of the mushroom war. In this altered timeline, Marceline has to fend for herself to survive after her mother passes. She hunts down the vampires and gains their powers. Marceline has previously stated that Simon being there for her when she was young and she needed him was her inspiration and main reason to provide the same care and protection to other humans (episode: "The Empress Eyes"). So with Simon not being there, instead of helping the remaining humans in Ooo she becomes an evil Vampire Queen, in a castle with her vampire minions attending her every need. In the trailer we get a glimpse of this altered timeline dystopia, with Marceline laughing with flaming eyes and vampire minions jumping to attack and a Huntress Wizard that shoots heads of garlic with her bow and arrow, taken up the job of hunting vampires. Fionna Cake and Simon get sent to this altered reality to fix things (by Prismo?) and in the end they do, with Simon running down to the busstop with the note Betty left for him in in the book she knew he'd rent next clasped his hand (episode: Broke His Crown)
Haven’t finished it, and it is the first time I’ve heard of it. Which frustrates me because when I say I grew up with adventure time, I mean I’ve seen every episode the day it aired. I will have no trouble understanding anything and I am glad I grew up with adventure time. Now come along with me, it’s time to watch some Fiona and cake.
Hearing Adventure Time characters say stuff like “damn”, “pissed”, and “bust your balls” was a little strange at first but I think it actually fits with the tone they’re going for. The more adult language along with the fact that we have legitimate blood now shows that TV-14 Adventure Time is potentially going to go to some dark places. Even darker than regular Adventure Time was willing to go.
I love the contrast between the three main characters. We have Fiona who is stuck in the present barely living day by day. Simon who is stuck in the past unable to let go of Betty. And Finn who is stuck in the future always seeking the next adventure to distract himself from the fact Jake is gone. Can't wait to see how they play off each other.

Well I think it hurts much deeper than that for Finn because Jake was essentially his brother. Finn grew up with him, and went on adventures with him for years and years, they were practically nearly inseparable for the longest time

Oh god. The relatable feeling of being at your lowest and reaching out to people only to figure out they’re living their best lives and you don’t want to be a downer to them and make them upset.
I love adult finn so much. Like, OBVIOUSLY he’s still a badass. But he’s also got this chaotic energy that could only come from growing up in a place as absurd as Ooo. Seeing these classic adventures from simons pov gives the world such a complex tone.
Adventure Time is probably the one of the rare instances of where the franchise keeps me actually surprised and impressed while being the best piece of media which manages to be comedic and genuinely compelling with it's high concepts and call backs to minor stuff that make it alive. Star and SU just couldn't get the sheer magnitude of how actually complex characterisation characters, even minor ones can get in this show while having a good pace and understanding of what it is about. Honestly, AT is pretty much the 2000s media like Invincible comic, Scott Piligrim comic, early Ratchet and Clank, Jack And Dexter where there no fear of making protagonist somewhat a selfish jerk who tries to be better while embracing absolute silliness of the premise with some humour and some actual dark shit of it, all the while being a story fundamentally about hope in the cynical world of selfish people.
I just love how we've been able to get more Adventure Time content through these specials and miniseries that take place years after where the original series ended. It feels especially rewarding for longtime fans of the show, reuniting with the characters we’ve come to know and love, and seeing the different ways that they’ve developed since we first saw them. It really helps the sense that the characters have grown up along with you. The fun truly does never end.
As far as theories go, I rewatched all of Adventure Time before Fionna and Cake, and there was a really weird thing at the end of S9 Ep12 "Fionna and Cake and Fionna." At the end of the episode, Ice King goes to sleep and there's some ray of light that comes into his head while he sleeps that has something to do with Fionna and Cake. It was such a weird detail that never came up again, and I wonder if that has something to do with what's going on now.
You were drooling I was at tears in my bed, I binged pretty much 70% of the original series and all of Distant Lands in preparation. On one hand I’m happy I did on the other hand I feel depressed for Simon living in a world that totally phased him out even with other humans to interact with.

@@KSweets23 I think Fionna and Simon do relate but just very differently, both are depressed and unhappy with their lives and surroundings its sorta like a generational gap between them. Fionna is basically like most young adults trying to survive day to day in a mundane world that doesn’t look like it changes, while Simon is an older man who is trying to survive a world that outgrew him. Both of them seem to lack purpose and direction in their respective situations.
The second you said “Fiona is 29, hates her job, trying to survive, living in an apartment she can barely afford” instantly go me hooked. As a 29 year old that hates her job, living in a house with my bff/roommate that we can barely afford, that instantly slapped me in the face with how real that was.
Love how they treated Finn. He reminds me a lot of his Father, just in a more kind and friendly manner. They're both really difficult at reading the room, while Finn's Dad is way more malicious Finn comes off as such a good spirit, you cannot get mad at him for at least trying.
I'm glad to see someone else reached the same conclusion I did by the end of the second episode. The show matured, both with us AND in Simon's head, now that the magic in his life is gone. Poetic cinema
Simon has always been the type to help others rather than think about himself, but he needs to now do what's best for himself. Seeing how someone so selfless needs to confront their own inner madness or sadness is an excellent direction to take Simon's character.
I am SO HYPED for this series. I can’ wait to see what they do with our new main trio. Also pity you didn’t talk about the intros for both episodes and how much they fit them. One being a song about monotone and boring life dressed up as a cutesy song showcasing Fiona’s life. Other is an intro that just hypes you up about what you are in for. The first 2 episodes were so good especially Simon’s episode. I’m really excited to see the new universes that looks to fully embrace the interesting part of the multiverse as the trailer had so many different places. It was really unexpected to see choose goose again. Ugh and adult Finn was great we even get to see he’s still not exactly over jakes death yet.

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to Fiona and Cake at all. I never particularly liked those episodes and skipped through them when they'd come on. Let me tell you, I am BLOWN AWAY and so freaking happy I was wrong about this show! It went in a total different direction than I assumed and it's awesome! It's right up there with the original series and far surpasses the mini series a couple years back, obsidian, was it? I'm not even sure bc I didn't love it. I am just so happy to continue growing with these characters and I will watch everything they ever put out for however long it can go on!
In my opinion, this whole show is a love letter to the people who grew up with the show such as myself and many others. I just watched the two episodes yesterday and I couldn't be more in love with what they gave us
As someone who has watched the first two episodes, while binge watching the whole Adventure Time franchise a few years prior- WHILE watching with someone who has barely watched it.. Yes, you need to see atleast four seasons of the original Adventure Time, and the whole Peppermint Butler stuff.. To even fathom everything that is happening in this new series. Beautifully made so far, to reckon. It is worth it, especially for Simon Petrikov! I have been waiting to see more of Simon for years! Especially since he is my favorite character. I appreciate you for letting me rant a little bit.

My heart, to see a potential M!M relationship between “Gary” and Marshal Lee, is so happy!!! We’ve still yet to see a lot of healthy depictions of that in animation. Like, the only one that comes to mind are the cops from Gravity Falls, but they were played up as a joke for the time in the 2010s. This is huge imo, and I hope they make the relationship a thing in this series too!
Yes! I love my wlw representation but I think we’re all aware that whenever it’s a representation it’s wlw. We still not have something like Steven universe, Korra, She-Ra, Owl house, Arcane level of representation of mlm in animation. If we do have mlm they’re either a background character (showed very briefly sitting at a cafe sharing a drink or holding hands) or used in a comedic way (cops from gravity falls). Or used for queer baiting, like voltron. It’s really sad. And we can easily guess why producers are more okay with wlw representation.. makes my blood boil.
"Craig in the creek" have some pretty healthy mlm representing. (Overall pretty awesome queer representation, especially considering that it's a kids show)

Episode 2 Truly felt like tripping on drugs and meeting 2 old friends who have changed alot and just hanging and vibing. Ive missed Finn and Simon, i missed my boy TV wished he would have caught up with finn and simon
I do love the theory that the world we see in episode 1 is essentially the same world we saw through Ice King create, but seen through Simon’s eyes. Essentially, since the magic left his body, it also left the world he created
My favorite part in the second episode was Simon and Finn walking blind folded letting "The invisible forces of the universe guide us where we need to be." Which i think is a rather chilling reference to what I personally believe is one of the most existential episodes in the show.
I like that the filmmaker probably knows that adventure time viewers will no longer be children when they see this new part , They showed a Finn that really suits his job, he's violent and merciless adding blood to Finn's kill scenes is really cool. And his appearance is exactly what I imagined as a child when Finn grew up, tall and muscular with lots of beard and hair, he now looks exactly like a viking warrior.
Seeing Fionna and Cake really makes me happy. The show has been good so far. I loved watching Adventure Time as a kid and it feels weird to have pretty much a sequel to that show be a totally different show feels weird but I love it. I think it’s fitting and the show could dive into even deeper topics. Oh boy. I can’t wait

Ya Finn and Huntress wizard make the most sense as both need to move around, they both have that thought process most people couldn't handle. I feel this is a show I need to wait for all of S1 to be out then just binge it as long as no one brings up it just not landing the ending. A lot of things out there but I feel I should bring up the Wakfu series as a thing to try out.
There's actually a comma between Hunter & Fern on the credits (unlike all the other characters) so I think the voice actor just voiced both characters. Remember, we already saw the genderbent Fern on the bus tour earlier. Her dream comment was that it was "to messed up to even talk about"

Honestly I think the funniest thing Fiona and Cake can do right now is bring back Jake and it turns out he’s just been on a trip or his own adventure this whole time(probably exploring his alien heritage as that’s the only reason why I can think he left Finn). Finn of course reacted like a dog who’s owner left for work, being so sulky and depressed and all of his friends think ‘jakes on his own adventure now’ is him trying to cope with Jake apparently passing during an adventure. Then Jake actually comes back and Finn’s just like “JAKE JAKE JAKE YOURE BACK I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!! LOOK AT THIS TATTOO I GOT OF YOU ON MY CHEST!”

Episode three and four came out, and the people who thought it was the subconscious were kind of right I’m not going to spoil anything. I’m just gonna say it’s incredible.
I just got in my 30s and see my self a lot in new girlfailure adult fionna. I love this new version of her, it makes her own person in a sense even though you can tell she still has parallels to the person she’s inspired by which is finn, which is both are running from their current realities. Only fionna faces reality, though hoping something would happen in the most jaded adult way, finn is, as we seen in distant lands, just running emotionally from the elephant in the room of his sadness of not having jake anymore. And then there’s Simon. Who I’m so happy is getting his own story front and center. Someone pointed out that through adventure time, ice king/Simon had episodes about him but it was always through someone else(Finn/Marcy/Betty) POV. Here Simon is legit front and center, we are getting his thoughts and his actual struggles living in a post Ice king future world. His isolation that he can’t connect with the magical people of Ooo and the new futuristic humans and he can’t connect with Finn who’s one of few humans he’s known the longest and Marcy has now grown up and living her new life with her gf Bubblegum. His desire for the mundane effected the fionna and cake world so much that it gave fionna and cake their own agency of wanting to live a magical life that now they are being manifested into Ooo is such a exciting thing and I can’t wait for more. Also the fact Fionna’s last name is Campbell like Finn’s mom Minerva while Finn at least by the fandom I think has Marvin’s last name to give both a nice difference from them as well

Don't know if you noticed but in the first episode if you pay attention to the background there's glitches in the world. Pieces of buildings and sidewalks are missing including the middle of a stone pillar, and there's an upside down traffic cone. Little subtle hints that something's not right with the world
I was afraid of seeing reviews of this, because modern review media always shows all the flaws in stuff. And I didn't want that for Fionna and Cake, because watching it genuinely made me feel like it was Adventure Time continued. Essentially everything that was said at the start of this video. And it makes me happy that other people feel the same way.
I like to think that simon was the closest you could get to finn when the world was sane and that his situation totally sucks because the world he inhabits has become insane and even though he's sane now and can be apart of the world he's still disconnected because of his sanity

I conveniently, without knowing this series was dropping prior, rewatched all of Adventure Time last year on watch cartoons online (has all the cartoon network and adult swim shows, your welcome.) and it easily became better than Regular Show which was my favorite of the 2010's big three. I'm glad they had most characters age up to the audience that grew up with Adventure Time, it's kinda sweet

I found the first two episodes of Fiona and Cake to be pretty interesting! I mean they certainly got the show off to a good start so far.

Hunter's last name is not Fern. Based on the comma there, one of 2 things are true: either the character's name is actually Fern Hunter, or more likely, the same VA also voiced Fern in this episode.

I love adult finn so much. Like, OBVIOUSLY he’s still a badass. But he’s also got this chaotic energy that could only come from growing up in a place as absurd as Ooo. Seeing these classic adventures from simons pov gives the world such a complex tone.
My favorite detail is how they got the English voice actor for Tuxedo Mask to voice the Ice Prince. Genuinely got a smile out of me.
I think the message of the show is for Fiona and Simon to accept their realities and enjoyed their life.

Adventure Time is probably the one of the rare instances of where the franchise keeps me actually surprised and impressed while being the best piece of media which manages to be comedic and genuinely compelling with it's high concepts and call backs to minor stuff that make it alive. Star and SU just couldn't get the sheer magnitude of how actually complex characterisation characters, even minor ones can get in this show while having a good pace and understanding of what it is about. Honestly, AT is pretty much the 2000s media like Invincible comic, Scott Piligrim comic, early Ratchet and Clank, Jack And Dexter where there no fear of making protagonist somewhat a selfish jerk who tries to be better while embracing absolute silliness of the premise with some humour and some actual dark shit of it, all the while being a story fundamentally about hope in the cynical world of selfish people.
I just love how we've been able to get more Adventure Time content through these specials and miniseries that take place years after where the original series ended.
It feels especially rewarding for longtime fans of the show, reuniting with the characters we’ve come to know and love, and seeing the different ways that they’ve developed since we first saw them. It really helps the sense that the characters have grown up along with you.
The fun truly does never end.
As far as theories go, I rewatched all of Adventure Time before Fionna and Cake, and there was a really weird thing at the end of S9 Ep12 "Fionna and Cake and Fionna." At the end of the episode, Ice King goes to sleep and there's some ray of light that comes into his head while he sleeps that has something to do with Fionna and Cake. It was such a weird detail that never came up again, and I wonder if that has something to do with what's going on now.

You were drooling I was at tears in my bed, I binged pretty much 70% of the original series and all of Distant Lands in preparation. On one hand I’m happy I did on the other hand I feel depressed for Simon living in a world that totally phased him out even with other humans to interact with.

@@KSweets23 I think Fionna and Simon do relate but just very differently, both are depressed and unhappy with their lives and surroundings its sorta like a generational gap between them. Fionna is basically like most young adults trying to survive day to day in a mundane world that doesn’t look like it changes, while Simon is an older man who is trying to survive a world that outgrew him. Both of them seem to lack purpose and direction in their respective situations.

The second you said “Fiona is 29, hates her job, trying to survive, living in an apartment she can barely afford” instantly go me hooked. As a 29 year old that hates her job, living in a house with my bff/roommate that we can barely afford, that instantly slapped me in the face with how real that was.
Pretty sure Hunter and Fern both just have the same VA, since Fern had a line on the bus.
Love how they treated Finn. He reminds me a lot of his Father, just in a more kind and friendly manner. They're both really difficult at reading the room, while Finn's Dad is way more malicious Finn comes off as such a good spirit, you cannot get mad at him for at least trying.
I'm glad to see someone else reached the same conclusion I did by the end of the second episode. The show matured, both with us AND in Simon's head, now that the magic in his life is gone. Poetic cinema
Simon has always been the type to help others rather than think about himself, but he needs to now do what's best for himself. Seeing how someone so selfless needs to confront their own inner madness or sadness is an excellent direction to take Simon's character.
I am SO HYPED for this series. I can’ wait to see what they do with our new main trio. Also pity you didn’t talk about the intros for both episodes and how much they fit them.
One being a song about monotone and boring life dressed up as a cutesy song showcasing Fiona’s life.
Other is an intro that just hypes you up about what you are in for. Honestly, you gotta see to understand what I mean with intro of episode two.

Adventure Time's ability to grow up with audience is a talent
The first 2 episodes were so good especially Simon’s episode. I’m really excited to see the new universes that looks to fully embrace the interesting part of the multiverse as the trailer had so many different places. It was really unexpected to see choose goose again. Ugh and adult Finn was great we even get to see he’s still not exactly over jakes death yet.
I just watched this review for the first time after watching the 8 current episodes back to back. WHEN YOU SAID "this is all happening in Simon's head" I WAS LIKE BRO NO WAY!!! 👏👏👏👏

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to Fiona and Cake at all. I never particularly liked those episodes and skipped through them when they'd come on. Let me tell you, I am BLOWN AWAY and so freaking happy I was wrong about this show! It went in a total different direction than I assumed and it's awesome! It's right up there with the original series and far surpasses the mini series a couple years back, obsidian, was it? I'm not even sure bc I didn't love it. I am just so happy to continue growing with these characters and I will watch everything they ever put out for however long it can go on!
In my opinion, this whole show is a love letter to the people who grew up with the show such as myself and many others. I just watched the two episodes yesterday and I couldn't be more in love with what they gave us
As someone who has watched the first two episodes, while binge watching the whole Adventure Time franchise a few years prior- WHILE watching with someone who has barely watched it.. Yes, you need to see atleast four seasons of the original Adventure Time, and the whole Peppermint Butler stuff.. To even fathom everything that is happening in this new series. Beautifully made so far, to reckon. It is worth it, especially for Simon Petrikov! I have been waiting to see more of Simon for years! Especially since he is my favorite character. I appreciate you for letting me rant a little bit.

My heart, to see a potential M!M relationship between “Gary” and Marshal Lee, is so happy!!! We’ve still yet to see a lot of healthy depictions of that in animation. Like, the only one that comes to mind are the cops from Gravity Falls, but they were played up as a joke for the time in the 2010s. This is huge imo, and I hope they make the relationship a thing in this series too!

Yes! I love my wlw representation but I think we’re all aware that whenever it’s a representation it’s wlw. We still not have something like Steven universe, Korra, She-Ra, Owl house, Arcane level of representation of mlm in animation. If we do have mlm they’re either a background character (showed very briefly sitting at a cafe sharing a drink or holding hands) or used in a comedic way (cops from gravity falls). Or used for queer baiting, like voltron.
It’s really sad. And we can easily guess why producers are more okay with wlw representation.. makes my blood boil.
"Craig in the creek" have some pretty healthy mlm representing. (Overall pretty awesome queer representation, especially considering that it's a kids show)

I do love the theory that the world we see in episode 1 is essentially the same world we saw through Ice King create, but seen through Simon’s eyes. Essentially, since the magic left his body, it also left the world he created

My favorite part in the second episode was Simon and Finn walking blind folded letting "The invisible forces of the universe guide us where we need to be." Which i think is a rather chilling reference to what I personally believe is one of the most existential episodes in the show.
I like that the filmmaker probably knows that adventure time viewers will no longer be children when they see this new part , They showed a Finn that really suits his job, he's violent and merciless adding blood to Finn's kill scenes is really cool. And his appearance is exactly what I imagined as a child when Finn grew up, tall and muscular with lots of beard and hair, he now looks exactly like a viking warrior.
Seeing Fionna and Cake really makes me happy. The show has been good so far. I loved watching Adventure Time as a kid and it feels weird to have pretty much a sequel to that show be a totally different show feels weird but I love it. I think it’s fitting and the show could dive into even deeper topics. Oh boy. I can’t wait

Ya Finn and Huntress wizard make the most sense as both need to move around, they both have that thought process most people couldn't handle. I feel this is a show I need to wait for all of S1 to be out then just binge it as long as no one brings up it just not landing the ending.

Honestly I think the funniest thing Fiona and Cake can do right now is bring back Jake and it turns out he’s just been on a trip or his own adventure this whole time(probably exploring his alien heritage as that’s the only reason why I can think he left Finn). Finn of course reacted like a dog who’s owner left for work, being so sulky and depressed and all of his friends think ‘jakes on his own adventure now’ is him trying to cope with Jake apparently passing during an adventure.
Then Jake actually comes back and Finn’s just like “JAKE JAKE JAKE YOURE BACK I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!! LOOK AT THIS TATTOO I GOT OF YOU ON MY CHEST!”

I just got in my 30s and see my self a lot in new girlfailure adult fionna. I love this new version of her, it makes her own person in a sense even though you can tell she still has parallels to the person she’s inspired by which is finn, which is both are running from their current realities. Only fionna faces reality, though hoping something would happen in the most jaded adult way, finn is, as we seen in distant lands, just running emotionally from the elephant in the room of his sadness of not having jake anymore. And then there’s Simon. Who I’m so happy is getting his own story front and center. Someone pointed out that through adventure time, ice king/Simon had episodes about him but it was always through someone else(Finn/Marcy/Betty) POV. Here Simon is legit front and center, we are getting his thoughts and his actual struggles living in a post Ice king future world. His isolation that he can’t connect with the magical people of Ooo and the new futuristic humans and he can’t connect with Finn who’s one of few humans he’s known the longest and Marcy has now grown up and living her new life with her gf Bubblegum. His desire for the mundane effected the fionna and cake world so much that it gave fionna and cake their own agency of wanting to live a magical life that now they are being manifested into Ooo is such a exciting thing and I can’t wait for more. Also the fact Fionna’s last name is Campbell like Finn’s mom Minerva while Finn at least by the fandom I think has Marvin’s last name to give both a nice difference from them as well

Don't know if you noticed but in the first episode if you pay attention to the background there's glitches in the world. Pieces of buildings and sidewalks are missing including the middle of a stone pillar, and there's an upside down traffic cone. Little subtle hints that something's not right with the world
I was afraid of seeing reviews of this, because modern review media always shows all the flaws in stuff. And I didn't want that for Fionna and Cake, because watching it genuinely made me feel like it was Adventure Time continued. Essentially everything that was said at the start of this video. And it makes me happy that other people feel the same way.

I conveniently, without knowing this series was dropping prior, rewatched all of Adventure Time last year on watch cartoons online (has all the cartoon network and adult swim shows, your welcome.) and it easily became better than Regular Show which was my favorite of the 2010's big three. I'm glad they had most characters age up to the audience that grew up with Adventure Time, it's kinda sweet
