You can say what you want, name whomever you like, and maybe some were AS good... but nobody ever played an electric guitar BETTER than this guy. It is impossible.
If you've never played pool, smoked a cigarette, and drank with this song playing in the background. Then I feel sorry for you. Long live SRV, long live the blues.
I've heard Clapton say when he plays solos he's conscious of repeating himself. But when he hears SRV, it's just flowing from his soul. Fine description.
Not only did he play behind his back better than most guitarists around play out front, he gave big props to his band and was very humble. And they weren't just Double Trouble, he made sure everyone knew they were SERIOUS Trouble.
I've been playing guitar and singing for over 40years now, and believe me when I tell you that this is called giving it your absolute all on that stage. Love you Great Stevie and Double Trouble
I was working in the black part of town and had SRV cranking on the work radio when two old timers came up the stairs because they had to know who this guy was! They said he plays like Jimmie and it's the blues. You should have seen the look on their faces when I told them he was white. They asked how could these white teenagers know the blues. We rattled off a list of the greats and we had a moment of understanding that only music could bring. You see we were kindred sprits.
Nice work, you are the man that won the power ball 2 times and remember Seeing SRV Live! I can only Imagine seeing the best guitarist play of all time twice.!
What a story too! I never knew who he was, I was 16 maybe 17 and my dad made me go.. Best thing he ever MADE me do!!! Saw him at Mud-Island in Memphis, TN with a crowd of 6-8,000 (can't remember), after the show we went to the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street and 5 minutes after getting a table in the packed bar, in walked Stevie with the band. They locked the doors and he played for 60 minutes for a few hundred, before signing the guitar. Like I posted above, I will NEVER forget it.. lol
Listening to this on the day of THE GREAT HOUSTON FLOOD, August 27, 2017 on the day and morning of SRV's death on The same day on 1990. RIP SRV and prayers for my amigos in H-Town.
What's sad is my mom loved Stevie when I was younger and I hated the blues..... Now she's gone and I would love to sit back smoke a joint with her and watch this!!! Can't believe I didn't , couldn't, or wouldn't enjoy this with her. Damn
the man was simply put on the earth to play guitar. every time i watch him i just agree more with that statement. it is one thing to comprehend what he did, it is another thing to do what he did. he is teaching god guitar lesson right now :)
Always heard SRV was something. Never believed it. Watched this. The guy is high as a kite and .. bored. So he's gonna play it behind his back. Genius.
Live a good life, and one day you will see the best live concert ever...SRV, Duane, BB, Jimi and so many more. Can you imagine the after life Fillmore Heaven show? I invite you all to add the rest of the performers.
The best place to listen to this was Boogers Ice House in Baytown, Texas...playing pool, drinking beer and trying to catch a breeze. The good old days, I miss them.
I never found SRV's music until he was gone. Not that I would of had a chance to see him live it's one of the fantasy concerts I would attend if only one.
One of the only dudes I never saw in L.A. I completely missed his concert…Jeff Beck and another band who I have forgotten opened for him. This was back in around in the late 70s (I think…). Have NO idea why. I saw Zep, Cream, etc every time they came to the L.A. area. One of my many regrets in life…
there are very few guitarists today in pop culture that can really play with such fluidity. John Mayer comes close but when I watch them back to back playing blues, holy shit what a world of a difference. Stevie is on another level.
Black, white, yellow, purple, green there is no better blues guitarists. Behind the back like a boss not missing a beat. I'm sorry Hendrix worshipers, Jimmy ' s taking lessons to catch up. Wow!
SRV covered plenty of Hendrix songs and look how he is dressed for god sakes he took a lot from Hendrix. Hendrix never even knew who SRV was. Is SRV more technically sound absolutely. Hendrix was the first to ever do it though no one to copy from or learn from his sound was his alone.
+Frankincensed No offense to you man but if you didn't even know Hendrix died 40 plus years ago you probably shouldn't comment on who's better than him.
I love SRV and I feel his pain. Cocaine is a hell of a drug. I'm happy he got sober. See the difference less than a year from his death "One night in Texas" on Austin City Limits.
You can say what you want, name whomever you like, and maybe some were AS good... but nobody ever played an electric guitar BETTER than this guy. It is impossible.
His voice is criminally underrated .
Top-tier vocals on this live Montreux version!
That is the most beautiful thing I have ever watched. Wow just wow.
I am one of the lucky. I got to see him open for Robert Plant before he died. I was blown away. He was the best.
If you've never played pool, smoked a cigarette, and drank with this song playing in the background. Then I feel sorry for you. Long live SRV, long live the blues.
Why?
Tx pool room bluez
Stevie could play 8 notes 50 million different ways .
The Doctor Strange of the blues.
Yep, and every time he plays the same song it sounds like a new one, so damn talented
Best way to describe him
I've heard Clapton say when he plays solos he's conscious of repeating himself. But when he hears SRV, it's just flowing from his soul. Fine description.
Well said , fount out if his heart
Not only did he play behind his back better than most guitarists around play out front, he gave big props to his band and was very humble. And they weren't just Double Trouble, he made sure everyone knew they were SERIOUS Trouble.
I've been playing guitar and singing for over 40years now, and believe me when I tell you that this is called giving it your absolute all on that stage. Love you Great Stevie and Double Trouble

No comments WOW! best guitarist with the most soul and passion!
Saw him twice.. Will never forget it either. RIP
lucky, man..
Nice work, you are the man that won the power ball 2 times and remember Seeing SRV Live! I can only Imagine seeing the best guitarist play of all time twice.!

Like I posted above, I will NEVER forget it.. lol
So after the show Stevie played again at a local bar. That's a true musician
Luky you:-))
Cool on so many levels and more talent in his pinky finger than most bands today! Sad you left us Steve, glad you gave so much to remember you by.
SRV was the best story teller and entertainer of them all.
I still remember all of the love you passed our way S.R.V.
Nobody can do blues like this!
I watch SRV with my eyes closed, and feel the notes.
+DEXTER POIN Those guitar strings attach to the soul, man.
+thejoser Absolutely!
I watch him with my eyes open
+DEXTER POIN I feel that his guitar is talking to me with a smooth voice..
Such a damn shame he left the world so early. One of the best to ever pick up a guitar. The kind of music you can actually feel. RIP.
10 years before my birth and I still lovin' it since the first day i listened to it ! RIP master
if i had all the dragon balls, i would bring back SRV without even thinking about it.
Good man. Likewise.
SRV are not Hendrix?
adrian villafuerte you get 3 wishes. I'll use the second one to bring back Dimebag Darrell.
AciDXRaiN27 I'd bring Gary Moore back too. Such inspirations to the guitar world.
goldensun2211 Kurt cobain? He wasn't even good at guitar.
And it's still raining, Stevie ...
Jae Mabry and it aint never gonna stop.
Just close your eyes and picture every note Stevie hits dancing on a floor of roses
Wha?
This dude is as high as SRV was in this concert!
One of the greatest of all time!
i love how he's instantly back in the rythem after putting the guitar behind his back, awesome!
It's literally flooding down in Texas right now. Good time to revisit this classic.
This weather sure is odd.
No kidding listened to it during that flood. now it's flooded again and I'm here
Texas Son...you are missed...
Could listen to this man all day long - what a legend!!
Because no words can describe how good this is.
Listening to this on the day of THE GREAT HOUSTON FLOOD, August 27, 2017 on the day and morning of SRV's death on The same day on 1990. RIP SRV and prayers for my amigos in H-Town.
I played this at my local guitar center today. Sang to. It sucked ass pissed em off good.
thats hawt and euro like
OMFG HOLY FUCKING SHIT I SWEAR TO GOD I AM LITERALLY LAUGHING MY FUCKING ASS OFF
lol, pissed em off good!
Why were you laughing?
He was just an incredible blues man. Wish I got to see him.
Jaw dropping performance and a talent beyond words!
I love how SRV could play guitar behind his back better than most guitarists can play it normally, haha. The man was, is, and always will be a legend.
SRV adds vibrato to his voice.... using his fretting hand!
What's sad is my mom loved Stevie when I was younger and I hated the blues..... Now she's gone and I would love to sit back smoke a joint with her and watch this!!! Can't believe I didn't , couldn't, or wouldn't enjoy this with her. Damn
Brother, she’s with you in spirit! Fire up the joint and crank it!
Hell yeah the crowd was fuckin feelin it. Alcohol and drugs. Gotta love the 80s
plenty o' that still!
Nah. The 80's was all about Cocaine... and Cocaine. When you ran out.... You bought more..... Cocaine... :)
Ricardo Kutz real mature bruv
Leo B Spoken like someone who knows nothing about the subject at hand. How old were you in the 80's? Like 2 maybe?
Ricardo Kutz pretty much, just saying that drug romantization is getting old
One of the very BEST !
the man was simply put on the earth to play guitar. every time i watch him i just agree more with that statement. it is one thing to comprehend what he did, it is another thing to do what he did. he is teaching god guitar lesson right now :)
H-bombFitness I never considered SRV a real bluesman but more of a novelty act..
Matooley O'Brien that just hurt my heart
MO'B has been running down SRV for years. Not sure why, but it's certainly getting old. Haters gonna hate.
Playing that guitar with a personal vendetta!!! JESUS
Body and electric guitar become just one!!!
Always heard SRV was something. Never believed it. Watched this. The guy is high as a kite and .. bored. So he's gonna play it behind his back. Genius.
He was having fun. You should try it sometime.
He is definitely a guitar God!
Jesus, why do the best always die so Early
The star that shines twice as bright burns twice as fast unfortunately
Fucking airplanes
Shittiest part is he recently got off drugs. Then died anyway 😑
Live a good life, and one day you will see the best live concert ever...SRV, Duane, BB, Jimi and so many more. Can you imagine the after life Fillmore Heaven show? I invite you all to add the rest of the performers.
Todd Salvati
Gary Moore
I grew up as a 90's kid and I truly have envy for anybody who saw him live, he is my favorite guitar player, not even a discussion
Wow, I knew he was awesome on guitar but I never noticed how well he sings that before. Great blues voice to go with an amazing guitarist
God is his real name, no for the other guitarist....
there are no words to describe how I feel listening to this. what a great performance!
"Reese Wynans on the Keyboards, Tommy Shannon on the bass,
Chris Layton on the drums, My name is Stevie Ray & this is Serious trouble"
SRV
What an honor to see and listen to the master on blues guitar.
The best place to listen to this was Boogers Ice House in Baytown, Texas...playing pool, drinking beer and trying to catch a breeze. The good old days, I miss them.
16 people wouldn't know greatness if they were drowning in it.
How could anything be greater than this...
Real music !!!
I miss you
miss him everyday!!
I saw him live twice. None better before and none better since. RIP.
If I could play guitar as well as Stevie could play behind his back and head my life would be complete.
So do it
too much soul in here!!!
I wish I was there
Cue to 2017 and show this to a teenager ... lost ... from this point on .... not one generation now will get this or its significant
crowbarred I'm 14 and love SRV rest easy Stevie
Other-worldly.
I wish I could play like him, not to impress other people but to provide myself with neverending entertainment
We miss ya Stevie!! RIP
I never found SRV's music until he was gone. Not that I would of had a chance to see him live it's one of the fantasy concerts I would attend if only one.
We all know this man was the greatest guitar player ever. I mean it. EVER.
This is the Live Alive version, actually with better sound. Its hard to watch without your mouth open. God bless him.
This is the performance that brought him to world wide fame, and acclaim.!
.. from one of the greatest Guitar Records ever.
We just went through harvey...bless houston texas
I listen all the time. Just listen and enjoy the music.
One of the best blues guitarist,if not the best!!
Love me some deep hard blues.
I love it he has the woody outfit on
Now this is a way to come back on stage second time in Switzerland after they booed him at first, yet applauded him at the end, the first go around.
One of the alltime greats, he is missed.
Glad I got to see him before his unfortunate demise. RIP
Love SRV. RIP & Still Miss You Today. Gone To Soon
And we are getting it again in 2016.
What an amazing guitar player
One of the only dudes I never saw in L.A.
I completely missed his concert…Jeff Beck and another band who I have forgotten opened for him. This was back in around in the late 70s (I think…).
Have NO idea why. I saw Zep, Cream, etc every time they came to the L.A. area.
One of my many regrets in life…

It's always flooding down in Texas when SRV is on....
Texas Flood! SRV showing how it's done!
there are very few guitarists today in pop culture that can really play with such fluidity. John Mayer comes close but when I watch them back to back playing blues, holy shit what a world of a difference. Stevie is on another level.
Man RIP just one of the GREATS!
Black, white, yellow, purple, green there is no better blues guitarists. Behind the back like a boss not missing a beat. I'm sorry Hendrix worshipers, Jimmy ' s taking lessons to catch up. Wow!
Incase you haven't noticed jimi hendrix died 40 years ago.
Kane Dosser He did? Wow! Thanks for the update. I had NO idea.
+Frankincensed I agree man, I love Jimi but I always thought, man, Jimi's sloppy! NO ONE can ever call SRV sloppy!
