  • Quick update video covering an unplanned trip to Devon in the MGB GT which all went ok except the lack of footage and a minor alternator issue with a broken wire! We also had a flood in the garage, I thought it was coming from the wall but actually came under the door and ran down the side of the garage to collect at the back, the door had just dried by the time I'd noticed, doh! Finally a quick rummage in my breakdown bag, I do carry some other bits in the MG in addition to this bag (picnic blanket, spare dizzy and parts, another tool roll, some hefty jump leads and some oil!)

    Nice to another video on the B. Glad the garage was an easy fix.

    Enjoyed your video. Funny how the oldest and least complicated car became the go to driver. Here in Ontario I had the same drain issue or similar issue with my trench drain in front of the garage door. The drain was clear but froze up causing a flood in the garage while away in Florida for a month. Both cars including the BGT frozen to the floor in 3 inches of ice. Eventually thawed out with heaters and salty water for the drain. I now have an electric cable heater that lays in the drain and partially down the underground pipe. Works great and is enabled by a thermostat to turn it on and off as weather changes. Not likely necesssry where you live but you may want to keep a bag of salt handy in winter months!

      Blimey!! That must have been a sight to come back to! Glad you got the cars out and a more permanent solution, hopefully not needed here but the salt idea is a good one particularly as our driveway is on an incline 👍

    tool kit... I used to carry a spare fuel pump as, if you need one, you won't get one in a hurry in Europe.... zip ties always come in handy, some spare contacts + capacitor, just in case and never needed. and, something that has made it into my bike "emergency kits", a test lamp. very handy for setting the ignition timing.

      Good point about fuel pump! I have my original distributor in the car to fit if the electronic one goes wrong 👍, test lamp is a good suggestion too!

    Another great video Mark, loved the music too. I've had a similar issue with drains backing up and causing minor flooding in our garage/utility room - it was exactly the same reason as yours too! I've taken inspiration from your breakdown bag - never thought to do this but its such a good idea, so thanks for the suggestions. Cheers!

      @granblogismo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it must happen quite often for this style of drain, going to have to clear it every year or something! Breakdown bag is super useful even in a modern car on a longer trip and easy to transfer from vehicle to vehicle 👍

    Mark been watching all your videos there Great mate love it! It's always the same how cars decide to all have issues all at once. We also have a xk8 convert thou it's been having issues with Evap for our Emissions here in California. But did buy a decent scan tool which has made things simpler. My mum and dad lived in Devon! Beautiful views of the English countryside. Really beautiful, miss the old country. Nice MGB nice you made it there and back with one minor issue. I've just replaced some of my wiring on my 73 Jensen Healey! Same issues wiring in some places had got to britle from old age and engine heat! Keep up the great work on the videos. Much appreciate you taking time to post them. Look forward to seeing more! Cheers mark

      Thanks very much for the comment! Yes a decent scan tool is on my shopping list! Good to know it’s not just me having these issues 😂 hoping to get more videos out in the new year now that we’ve settled into our house a bit more, been a bit quiet on the car front for a while now!

      @@granblogismo let me know if you would like details of the scan tool I purchased for our XK8! Cheap scan tools won't actually clear codes on XK8. There will always be one code p1111 that means all systems are complete. It's when you have code p1000 means there are monitors that aren't complete. I've done a lot of research on this topic! So feel free to pick my brains if you have a issue! More then happy to help! Have a great Xmas!

      Hi! Sorry for delayed response, yes if you have details that would be great, I’m still stuck on this wheel sensor issue 😢

      @@granblogismo mark the scan tool is Foxwell tool NT650Elite here in America I paid about 200 dollars but let me tell you it's a great tool and not cheap has chips, but you also get what you pay for. Mark you mentioned wheel sensors. But with out scan tool that has. ABS technology your kinda stuck with out proper tool! The xk8 is pretty complicated computer system. I sent you my email so feel free when you get time and let me know whats issue is maybe i could help.

    Glad you didn't do too much filming in Devon, proper time off with old friends is far too rare and valuable to compromise. Looking forward to Goodwood video!

    Amused to see the German motor let you down as well as the others! May I suggest adding a mixed pack of cable ties to your bag? Very useful, light and use next to no room.

      Yes good shout, one of the tool kits as some smaller cable ties and a couple of jubilee clips but room for more! 👍

    Another great vid. If you own a classic your other car needs to be a Toyota 😀. I had a Maserati and a Toyota the Maserati is gone and replaced with a Lotus but I still have the same Toyota even though its got 480,000 Km's on it

      Yes indeed! I don’t think a Land Rover is a great choice as a backup car 🤣 oh well, maybe I need a Hilux or something! 480k kms! Wow that’s good going 🙇‍♂️

    Great to see the MG on a long trip again. How do you find your headlights for driving at night? Have you upgraded them? Jeff

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes I’ve recently replaced the sealed beams for halogen lights but full-beam only works on one side (dodgy wiring somewhere 😅) they are better but need the full beam to get much benefit 😂

    I carry a couple of cans of tyre weld as I'm not sure whether the XK8 spare will fit given I have 20inch BBS Alloys. Luckily haven't had to use them.
    What's happened to the decals on the MG?

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aha good one! Might see if I can get some, yes the decals have gone (for now) they were temporary stickers anyway and started to peel a bit, might reapply another time as I have a few as it’s free advertising and makes car easy to spot at shows 😂

    hello love your videos!, im looking into getting a mgb gt myself and i was wondering how tall you were as I'm 6'3" (191cm) and was wondering how much room id have in it 😅

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for the comment! I’m 5’11” and have enough room, I know of taller drivers who fit ok but they have slightly later cars with seats that have more adjustment so might be worth going to see one or go to a show and ask an owner if you can sit in it 🤣 there’s a chap on Instagram called Keiran account is molly_the_mgbgt who’s over 6ft I think so might be worth a DM to him as well? Hope that helps!!
