This song was nominated for a Grammy. Steve, when you take into account range, pitch, tonality, phrasing, emotion, etc. is the best rock or r&b singer ever and perhaps the greatest singer of all time.
Nobody's voice can make you melt instantly like this man's. One note and you know it's him and it's over. One of my favorites of all time. Nobody like Steve. No band like Journey.

I live in Florida now, but I'm from Houston and i was at this concert. Steve Perry is second to none and sounds even better live and believe me is hard to do being he moves around on stage and never sounds out of breath. He's not even singing at his highest he's simply singing without straining. Randy Jackson was the bass player in journey and he calls Steve Perry the VOICE!

I have the same reaction you do. I get chills and I am 61yrs old nearly 62. I have been listening to them since I was 16yrsold they never cease to amaze me. This song is beautiful. I would consider journey as soft rock. These guys are all so talented.
We were so lucky to have Steve and Journey singing and still lucky that they are around hope they could shake hands and get the original band together for a reunion. Hope they realize how much they are faithfully loved.

Im in my 30’s and I love Journey. They are absolutely amazing and Steve is definitely gifted with a voice. He also sounds amazing Live. I grew up in San Francisco and I remember when Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon played with Santana but Journey with Steve Perry one of the greatest singers in rock in any kind of singing
Dude sounded just as good live, fortunate to have seen Journey live in ‘81 and ‘83.
I too was fortunate to see Journey live every time they came to the Dallas/Fort Worth area during that time. Maybe even late 70s?

Journey is my favorite rock band of all time. This song got a Grammy nomination. I saw Journey in concert in 1982. The best concert of my life. Steve, Neal, Jonathan, Ross and Steve Smith on drums are simply the best. No one comes close. Journey is Timeless.

This is a "seasoned" Steve Perry. His voice today is pretty much in line with this tone. He can still reach the high notes, but he can't live up there anymore. Matter of fact, it is being said that his highest note ever is on the song Sun Shines Gray from his 2018 release. Once in a lifetime voice.
I am with you and I am sure I have mentioned it before, they are my favorite rock band of all time. And might I say, they may try, but they will NEVER be JOURNEY without Steve Perry. My favorite vocalist probably ever. He has mastered making u feel what he wants u to feel.
Nobody sings like Steve Perry. Sadly, this was the last video they ever made together. Steve was in so much pain during this video because he needed his hip replaced. He couldn't tour right away for this album because he needed surgery and he asked the rest of the band to wait for him. They started looking for a replacement without him knowing and finally came back to tell him he was out.

I watch you all the time because I can tell you know what great singing is. I have seen Steve Perry and Journey back in the early 80s because I'm from Houston. I have much respect for you for the fact how you show your emotions what you hear Steve Perry most men think their too macho to give another man a compliment. Listen to one of his tracks called"in the rain" and i l"in the rain" his voice is still amazing with a raspy sounds that his masterd!! He is second to none because of his voice that he owns! The songs i mentioned are BONE CHILLING!!! You can feel the pain in his 💔

Steve was in terrible pain while recording this video His hip was giving him lots of trouble and he ended up having a hip replacement shortly after. He had to ice his hip in between takes just to get thru it. He obviously made it thru the pain and we got this great video.

Also!!!! Perry went to Hawaii to get ready for the tour of this album. While hiking he felt pain like he never felt before. He went to the dr and to found out that his hip went bad and needed MAJOR surgery!! So during the filming of this video Perry was in intents pain, and while on breaks he laid down with packs of ice on his hip!!
