A big celebrations of his voice from the early days: "Still They Ride." In the later days: "Happy to Give" from the Raised on Radio album. I have NEVER seen anyone react to this song - its so underrated, not known by most, never on the radio and omg is it a beautiful display of his voice. Trust me - give Happy To Give a true listen and be mesmerized by his voice yet again. Off that same album: "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" and "The Eyes of a Woman" are also absolutely breathtaking in vocals.
I think that the vocals in Journey are great! If you want to hear another vocalist with a great vocal range then take a listen to the band Queensryche and vocalist Geoff Tate. Listen to their song titled: "Take Hold Of The Flame/Live from Tokyo 1984". And they're performing this live. I've even seen vocal coaches on these youtube reactions freak out when they listen to the vocals in this song.
Twon - you are SOOO right. It's ridiculous how well he can sing (or could in the day). I'm 60 years old and have loved Steve Perry's voice since the first time I heard it more than 35 years ago. I was lucky enough to hear them live, once, in Greensboro, NC. Only time in my life I went to a concert by myself just to get the best possible seat. (7th row back on the floor right in front of the stage!) This was the "Raised on Radio" tour and they were AMAZING. Nothing fake, no autotune back then. Just amazing talent - the whole band is tight as hell - and Steve's unsurpassed vocals. I just l listened with my jaw on the floor. Unbelievable. So...thanks for reacting to Journey. Great to see another person go through the same reaction I do, still, every time I hear this band - and Steve's voice.

He sold over 10 million albums worldwide and has had 8 number #1 chart topping songs himself! In 2018 The Eagles "Greatest Hits" album had officially outsold Michael Jacksons "Thriller" album!! This is a good example of a typical MTV video. 5 minutes to get your music on TV in faces. Neal Shon, a child prodigy on guitar, playing music fairs at 11, at 15 played in bars with Jeff Beck. Had to sneak him in, play 3 songs and rush him out the back door. Shon went on to play in Santana till their breakup. He had played with Greg Rolie, bass guitar and guitar tech Herbie Herbert who became Journey's band manager. Shon, Rollie and Herbert tried several keyboard and drum players, in came Steve Smith and Jonathan Cain who wrote songs with Shon. They needed a singer, a great singer. Herbet remembered Steve Perry from a few night clubs. At this point Steve had given up on a music career and was working at a Turkey Farm. Steve's voice was the rocket fuel the band needed. platnum records, clubs were too small, and had sell out arenas and stadiums. Non stop tours 12 months, into a studio to bang out another platinum record, 12 months of touring. It's a burnout and 7 years was all it took. Band broke up. In 84 a short reunion and Journey ceased to exist. 2005 Johnathon Cain and Neal Shon met Arlen Pineda who has a fantastic voice also and new music started coming out. I know people will say Steve can never be replaced. True. I think Journey would not exist if not for Arlen who has won the hearts of many around the world and huge fan base in the Philipeans.
Journey, Steve Perry...Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant...Roger Daltry, The Who....Boston, Brad Delp....these singers all made these bands incredible. There are more. That is why the best music came out of the 70s and the 80s.

In 84 a short reunion and Journey ceased to exist. 2005 Johnathon Cain and Neal Shon met Arlen Pineda who has a fantastic voice also and new music started coming out. I know people will say Steve can never be replaced. True. I think Journey would not exist if not for Arlen who has won the hearts of many around the world and huge fan base in the Philipeans.

Another distinct voice from an artist also called "The Voice" is Vern Gosdin. I suggest Chiseled In Stone (tear jerker kind) or Set 'Em Up Joe.
Journey, Steve Perry...Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant...Roger Daltry, The Who....Boston, Brad Delp....these singers all made these bands incredible. There are more. That is why the best music came out of the 70s and the 80s.

By the way. Everyone reacts the same way to Steve Perry and Journey. I was a sophomore in Highschool and heard a song and immediately went to buy the greatest hits CD. Every single song is absolutely amazing.
