I will say, your ability to articulate what is going on in the chemical reactions without pause and thought is getting a lot better. You're maturing as a chemist and I attribute this to your PhD. Keep at it man. How is it going BTW?

Hey, I'm glad you think so. I think that's maybe its me getting better with saying things and then editing it down correctly. Cut down enough so that you don't waffle and its boring, but not so cut down that you become hard to understand because you skip stuff or assume a lot of knowledge. Always a hard balance to walk.
The PhD is going okay, thanks for asking! I've hit the half way mark for my project and while the main project isn't doing that great..... ive got some interesting pet side projects that I think are more interesting than the main one lol. The main project requires spectroscopic scans of energetic materials, but so far we're still applying for the permits for these materials.... its been months of paperwork. For stuff I have at home, but that's not exactly allowed so doing it all 'correctly' takes.... a very long time. Which is frustrating.
So it feels even better to get into the home chem lab and have some success! Glad I can still find the time, for now!

I did the same Sythesis and it is originally from a Paper from S. M. Jörgensen (1894). I think the reason why your yield was better was, that you kinda protected it from light by wrapping it while you boiled it. I did got a yield of 75% by protecting it as good as possible from light. At the end of the paper Jörgensen mentions, that the complex is sensitive to light, when in solution. So I put a small amount of my product in water and let it sit for a day (one in the dark, one in the light) and the one in the light turnt to a dark brownish color (the other one did not change). 🤷🏼‍♀️

If we were only looking at playing the odds, there are more chances of the ligands re-coordinating in the cis arrangement. But it does make sense that, when the ligands rearrange themselves, trans is favored. The anions as far apart as possible and it avoids having the slightly bulkier NH3 from having an instance of being 90° from three other NH3s.

I have a obsevation about the structure of the complex at the begining of the video. the carbonate ion don´t forms chelated rings of four members because the overtention of the angles; however carbonate ion can forms binuclear complexes with two carbonate bridges between cobalts. Again excellent video!!!

I hate to be that guy and really don't want to drive you nuts here bud, but @ 6:00 it says "perxoide". I will admit to making that typo many times.

I also spotted a typo in the description. Like you said, I hate to be that guy, but I feel that he needs to know.

What's the music? I really like it
    EDIT: Oh ok they're:
    1. "Sams car"
    2. "19 Ssnb"
From Aphex Twin. Search for "selected SoundCloud works" or "selected ambient works vol 3"
    Thanks, Fedor Golishevskiy!
