What is a country when non citizens are valued over its own.
@firstlast-yn4qg we see things differently. You see attempts at welcoming migrants, knowing there will be some work and challenges for our nation's pre-existing citizens as valuing other citizens over the country's own.
I see things this way. We've never once valued other citizens over our own. We extend some things to other citizens who are facing hardship, and to whom a sub-par existence or opportunity in our nation is better than the nightmares they are coming from. And frankly, we often barely do that. Our own citizens are still very well off. The hardships we experience in welcoming new people to the nation are a fraction of the hardships they are experiencing, not only where they came from, but even still in being here.
My question, what is a nation that doesn't value other countries citizens even a little?

Hey Jon next time you bring up "Border crossings number scary" can you relay that 60% of the people apprehended at the border (where the border crossing number comes from) have been apprehended at least one other time? Meaning at most the 300,000 number is 180,000 individuals. And that's not counting second and third time offenders.

Part of the problem is that with the gridlock in Washington, those seeking asylum are not allowed to work, and because of the lack of funding for judges processing them, they have to wait six years. So until we have comprehensive reform to the whole system, which the immigration bill HAD, it's a lose-lose situation... The bill would have given asylum seekers work permits... until they get those, it IS a problem housing and feeding 100K extra in one city alone.
Reagan gave amnesty to nearly 3 million Illegal immigrants. You don’t seem to understand it helps forc wages down. Specifically, low skilled labor. Walmart, Home Depot, fast food. As someone who emigrated here from Russia, I can only hope things get fixed because had this been an issue when I was coming over here I'd be fighting in Ukraine instead of living free here in America. Is it fear mongering as a US citizen to want your countries to have borders? Should illegals be treated better than US citizens? Can anyone provide anything that debunks the numbers being thrown around? Reports saying between a 100 000 and 300 000 Migrants crossing a border is insane. Each one of those people may require food, water, clothing, shelter and work. I don't understand how you can downplay these kinds of numbers and not consider any negative impacts this could cause.
Part of the Federal Reserve strategy to fight inflation is to put pressure on the market to lower wages. Both sides want to let them in because working class and middle class W-2 slaves gained a lot of leverage in the job market since covid. We can hop from job to job much easier and they hate it.
They could easily enforce workers overstaying their visa or start fining companies every time a worker they brought in is deported, but they won't. It's all political theater to keep the poor left and poor right hating each other with a side dish of class warfare to keep us desperate for minimum wage.
People on the left and the right are tossing out the same figures, so no great reason to think they're terribly inaccurate. It's probably lacking some context like, how many usually cross over each year, how many leave the country, how much crime they commit compared to US citizens etc.

Is it really such a problem though? These people need resourses and help only until you let them get/create jobs. If you streamline the process of asylum application (so that it takes days/weeks instead of years) then they will either get deported or get a job quickly, and then the issue resolves itself

The problem facing us right now is ILLEGAL immigration, where many of these individuals have no background checks done on them, so we don't know who wer're letting in. For every family that comes here just looking for a new life we also get criminals, raptists, and those using their underground connections to sell more drugs within the USA, like Fetnyal. This is a serious issue impacting American citizens and i find it extremely disheartening to see people/The Daily show laughing at such issues

Maybe even going so far as to point out that Hungary, a country touted by some, has one of the highest illegal immigration rates to the US, a rate so problematic that Hungary had to be issued a warning?
I knew a woman in 2012 who was dating a guy from Romania who came here to go to school on a student visa, dropped out and was working off the books illegally. Then he wanted to marry her and get a green card. I think she dumped him after that.

If you look at the immigrants who came into NYC in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the city wasn't really prepared at that time either. However, new ideas, inventions, and methods of dealing with the problems of those who helped build the country sprang up. This is what makes the country great. Our ingenuity, compassion, and love of freedom extended to those who desire it. That's why the majority of immigrants want to come here. Prior to 9/11, our boarders were open. Migrant workers were welcome throughout our country. They would work on our farms then migrate back south. Some have stayed. They have brought craftsmanship, labor, and great food!

The difference is these aren’t migrants. They’re calling them migrants, but they aren’t people who came here for the picking season and intend to go home. They are immigrants who came here illegally to stay, but for PC purposes the media is calling them migrants.
