6:30 Fun fact between the Frenzied Flame Village and the Mausoleum Compound there's a Minor Erdtree where Ancestral Followers are engaged in what seems to be worship, led by an Erdtree Spirit. I don't know what this means but it contradicts their armor description and indicates they aren't as distant and opposed to the Erdtree order as indicated
I'm making an Ancestor-themed Tarnished - my headcanon lore for his backstory being the son of a shaman from a nomadic Worshipper tribe outside the Lands Between and a Tarnished warrior. I was further motivated after seeing theories that Torrent is related to ancestral spirits himself, which would explain why the spectral steed took a liking to him "Huh, this Tarnished smells like those tall guys that worship my kind" I was originally going for a Crucible-themed variant, since he's supposed to be like a Druid, but there's only three incantations and lots of magic spells fit the blue energy colors of the Ancestors.
A few thoughts: 1. It sort of makes sense that Torrent would be tied to the ancestral spirits because I remember analyses being done of Torrent that stated his character and design were influenced by Irish mythology, similar to the ancestral spirits and followers (the music seems celtic, doesn't it? I don't know why but that's how it sounds to me.) 2. After thinking about what you said concerning that crucible weapon and how it appears to be made of horns, I am thinking that maybe the ancestral spirits were the original crucibles. I believe that the crucible is something that creates life, but that also involves a destructive element (like molten metal). This is the same as what the ancestral spirits do. In Zullie's video she points out how the ancestral spirit sucks the life from the spirits of the other animals and uses it to strengthen itself. This is also of course very similar to what the Erdtree does with its roots. My theory is that at some point ancestral spirits stopped being used, and trees/roots became favored instead because they had similar functional (and visual) properties to the ancestral spirit horns. Edit: Actually I think it's more likely that the crucible inspired the practices of the ancestral followers, because dragons are associated with the crucible, and dragons seem to be the most primordial creatures, which would make the dragons first. So maybe the ancestral followers noticed the similarities between the horns of their ancestral beasts and the roots of the crucible. 3. After rethinking about and reobserving the light blue flames around the ancestral spirits' horns, the comparison that came to mind was ghostflame. This connection is advanced by that special ability for that axe weapon. Ghostflame separates the soul from the body, and the miasma from the axe seems to do the same thing.
7:46 maybe, MAYBE we will get upgrades for the goat because we get a new currency for SoTET, upgrades somewhere means upgrade everywhere because : its a dlc not a hotfixs
So then what is their purpose? (the ancestor spirits) Because (and correct me if im wrong) we know they life in what is basically a sort of seperate, maybe even pocket dimension and have basically nothing to do with the erdtrees (or we just dont know that yet?). I feel like i might just be missing something with the spouting buds thing, i dont really get what the buds are for either unless theyre just a signifier of a new life. Is their whole purpose just kinda being a middle man in between death and birth with their whole life in birth and life in death thing?
Maybe they are a living reminder of the previous system. For them, souls would use the cycle of death and rebirth to strengthen themselves. With age comes wisdom, and for souls, power. An Ancient Regal Spirit is an ancient soul that carries on itself the life that it helped come about with it's death, and so grows more powerful. The tree physically runs the cycle and souls are it's lifeblood, yet they just run throught constantly without really evolving individually, or in their view, growing buds, since it's the tree who repurposes them and calls the shots and so no individual spirit will ever become ancient. They never cull since they live on a constant harvest ordained by the elden ring.
I'm proud of you for doing an entire playthrough while missing gameplay mechanics. Reminds me of cyberpunk when I realized I couldn't craft and upgrade weapons until after my first run lmao
The Ancestor Spirit is my favorite Fromsoftware boss, I can’t tell you how long I have been waiting for this.
i agree

One of the most beautiful bosses in the fromsoft games, i was stunned the first time i entered the boss room and you see it run in the sky
It's almost like Godwyn's body growing and "living" again after death, but in a positive and accomplished way. I wonder what it means.
Another opposing principle, just like Rot brings forth new life through its domain in Caelid.....

One of the best bosses. Amazing artistic design, atmospheric music and a great area. Pretty fun fight too nothing too frustrating
There are legends of a blue deer in shamanic traditions. When I found this creature I couldn’t help but think of them.

crucable queen for SoTET and the boss will gives the update, its only a speculation btw
Thank for the great video!
I wonder who the tarnished referenced in the spiralhorn shield description, described as cultivating close ties to the ancestral followers is.
Odd that you didnt mention the connection with the ancestral followers and the lake of rot

I think the vagueness of the crucible’s meaning is intentional. I think you can tie all definitions of crucible to describe the crucible in elden ring
Well hork my dork, didnt see this coming!
First! And keep it up, we need more!!
The ancestors of all time
