A real moving performance that evening. Lan Shui knew how to tackle this gigantic work with much sensitivity and intelligence. I love the way he handled the very moving almost elegy finale in D major. It is one of the finest and longest Adagio Mahler penned. It is not an easy work and requires a lot of stamina for the orchestra and particularly so for a conductor. Bravo.

Great! Maestro Lan Shui is a real Mahlerian. I hope very much his rendering of the previous month of Bergs Three Orchestral pieces (this must be the Singaporian premiere of this work!) will be issued on this channel! Many thanks in advance!

I think every time Sasha Cooke tried to do her German "ch"-sound some people in the first two rows had to wipe the spittle off their faces.

Near the very end of the Symphony, the conductor purposely holds on to a chord for the longest duration ever.

Stupendous, and I've heard them all. Allen Meek, Rachel Walker, Han Chang Chou, all of you take a bow. But it is of course all down to the teambuilding skill of maestro Shan Lui and his incredible understanding of Mahler, giving a full 2 minute pause after the first movement. Last year in Berlin they had a break which ruins the symphony completely. This goes with the best! Singapore may be a fascist state and steal their children's childhood but the multi-culturalism seen here gives us hope. Shame Tamils don't take part and that they cant find people who know how to work a camera to give us close-ups of these brilliant people!!!

A little bite too slow, the first time hear this Symphony in more than one hundred minutes..

Mahler's scores are not tied to fixed tempos like the music of classicism. The questions of style are, only, things of personal taste. Greetings.

Is one hundred minutes not the standard?

@@aidankwek8340 Normally it's takes 90 to 95 minutes. My daughter had joined the performance of this symphony two times with the Hong Kong Philharmonic , it all less than one hundred minutes. I am not discussing the interpretation ( actually it's a good one), only talking about tempo.
