I was just trying to say that a lot of his music is kind of painting, where he describes a scene he sees in his mind, like descriptive music. So it kind of becomes silly, so I kind of skip through 90 percent of his symphonies and just go to good bits.
What a unique combination of orchestra culture + attentive and sensitive maestro, and the result is Mahler the way we would love his ingenuity interpreted.

Bravo to Christina Nilsson, soprano, and to Sarah Connolly, mezzo-soprano for their fine rendition of the solo parts! likewise, bravo to Rundfunkchor Berlin, and to the NDR Vokalensemble for their beautiful choral singing!
I've heard online at least 50 times. The Resurrection stands above all others! The first time I heard it (I'm a very late comer to classical music) I wept. It was a spiritual experience.
Wow. There's lots of meh Mahler performances out there, but this *isn't* one of those. Gilbert and the team leap on this piece from the get-go with the urgency it deserves and ... well, just keep that energy going. Great!

I have had the thrill of performing this great symphony many times. This is one of the most passionate and well played that I've heard. The sound of the orchestra is so warm and rich. Brilliant ensemble. Bravo!

This is music for the heart, mind and soul. Fantastic performance - a thoroughness that leaves me deeply thankful to the musicians, choir and soloists for opening up Mahler's marvellous univers in this spectacular manner.
I always find myself going back to listen to this recording! Personally, this is the best Mahler 2 performance yet. Bravo to everyone involved! I hope to listen to the orchestra live in my lifetime~ 🥰
A good upload. Mahler's music demands strong percussion and forward horns so why did the engineers think is wise to keep the microphones away from them? Impact is lost. Sad.

No! No! No! I hadn't reached the end when I wrote my comment a day ago. How to perhaps not wreck, but certainly damage the impact of a great performance? The applause was abruptly and savagely cut far too soon. We aren't listening to a CD, we are participating, joining the audience, as we both watch and listen. And that joining with the audience continues when the music ends (unless one is idiotic enough to be satisfied with watching/listening on a computer, or iPad, or, worst of all, a mobile phone - some may have no option, but anyone who is satisfied with what they get from such devices, has no idea of the true enjoyment of music). We also share the elation, and hearing (and seeing) the audience reaction helps to continue that elation. The early and abrupt cut to the applause, not even a fade, left me ultimately dissatisfied. I suspect that, sadly, I am now unlikely to return to this otherwise excellent performance.
Well NDR Klassik you've done it again. I have always loved the music of Bruckner,and the Wand/NDR performances of this composer have certainly contributed to that love, but I have never been drawn to Mahler's music...until I came across this video. I found the music and performance compelling and the finale in particular quite moving. I am stunned. Thanks NDR Klassik!!

wow, this isdefinitelyy one of the best Mahler 2interpretations i have ever heard. Maybe is the best to follow the score (cause Bernstein just ignores the accelerando) the overall piece is also conducted really well and i just like his intertperations and the orchestra did NOT fall short. Bravo!
Without a doubt, this is one of the VERY BEST performances I have seen on TH-cam, and I've seen a lot of them, this being my favourite Mahler symphony. Choristers and soloists sans scores - wonderful to see! And real bells instead of the tubular variety. Sublime!
Described in some high-ranking music circles as "possibly the most musically satisfying symphony ever composed". Humbly, an opinion with which I can't disagree. There are tempi differences here, also subtle differences in balance between inner voices, other differences that I can't put my finger on, all differences from approaches more usually encountered. But not only will I need to adjust to these differences, I suspect I in the end, I will prefer them. Thank you for an excellent and refreshing performance.

Heard this masterpiece performed by my local orchestra this weekend. It was great except that people started clapping after the dramatic moment at 14:34, which I fully anticipated and even made a bet on it.

You sometimes wonder how Mahler could have conceived of a work this immense and still pulled it off. Everyone goes home tired...a good tired.
