hey WES, should have had the time to test spray a few panels on scrap this way you could have gotten a bettter idea of the color, think there was a base undercoat lighter that uyou failed to apply test shoot some panels amd match in sun
Red is one of the hardest to blend. I've heard but not sure, that today's paint needs to be mixed to the exact of factory's specs. But was the 60k Ram 2500 really totaled? I see vehicles as im a tow operator be totaled because airbags so expensive so on. Buy back is ridiculous high
Hey buddy the Vin will give you the same code that the sticker on the door pr4 is a very old paint code for Chrysler seal it white then it will match it is the right paint code pr4 red is easy to blend been a painter for 26 years
Just a little advice on these colors. Especially with red and blue. They are somewhat "transparent". Meaning the primer color that you spray the red over has a lot to do with how light or dark it will be. Also the pressure you are spraying at has a lot to do with it. Higher preasure, lighter coats. Lower pressure, darker coats. Give it another shot! Good luck!
I was impressed with the way you handled the mismatched paint situation. You were cool, calm, collected and said we can fix it. Me, my comments would have been a 2 minute bleep process, unprintable. I like how you roll with the situation. I need to learn from that. As they say, no sense getting your shorts in a wad, if it can't be fixed there and then. Take your time. Excellent job on the paint, it was great too that the guys at Napa were understanding and willing to work through it with you, other than the blend issue the paint looks like factory quality, can’t wait to see it finished!
2 things: 1: dont forget the matte black strip on the b pillar! 2: is it possible that was the right color, but the primer was too dark with too thin a coat of paint?
Western I love the positivity in all your videos. I always try to keep a positive attitude whether it’s working on my own stuff or stuff at work (I’m a diesel tech). I found there is no reason to get angry. It only makes things worse.
You definitely seem like you're the type of guy that enjoys life and always turns things into a positive really enjoy watching the channel I hope next video the truck looks the same color not the same two different colors the same color as one
The only issue with using light colored primers is paint consumption Would use a lot more paint to cover And also if the Color is off that bad then it’s not the primers fault They should have went to go get it matched and then blended it
Not in a TH-cam commercial society. Cletus McFarland messed up the distributor on that Camaro big block, the timing went way off and stripped the teeth. Westen I think it looks good. As a good friend used to say, "Looks good from the back of a galloping horse!" Gotta love your positive attitude. I have the upmost confidence that you can make er look right.
Matching paint is a lot harder than people realize. For one thing they don't sell faded paint. The truck probably faded more than you realize. Even though the truck is relatively new it has still faded some. Glad to see your Napa guys are working with you. I own a Napa store and it's tough but we run in to similar problems. Have fun finishing the truck.
I love the Cummins engines. Especially the old 12v engines. I have one for my 64 International I'm building. I love your channel and all of the builds. I've been watching a while. Just subscribed! Keep up the good work.
Yep, they'd use different types of primer depending on the final color, so for bright colors its going to be white or light grey and for dark colors its going to be dark grey or black. Makes for less paint needed to cover the primer Edit: Actually you can see the original primer at 10:18 on the body when they are putting the fender on
Holy shit when I first found this channel months ago with the first Peterbilt video to blow up like it has now on news media and even on trending. Good job to everyone who is on the channel because it's easily been my most entertaining channel I have seen in years.
Man, your attitude is just the best!! If that was me, I'd probably be getting ready to burn the garage down!! Another awesome video, you guys are so good!! 👍🏻👍🏻
You did a beautiful paint job on your parts. I actually did the same thing last year. My Ram was hit by a car while I was shopping in Walmart and I purchased a new fender online and did the same thing. Paint and assembly by myself. Your paint job came out looking wonderful 👍🏾👏🏾.
You make me howl with laughter your mad and always so positive we’ll done I would have been so pissed at that going to the paint shop saying you sold me the wrong bloody pant!!!!!! Well done lol
Take your time when redooing it, and remove the windowtrim, much nicer finish in the long rung, no flacking of paint and so on,,,, it is a new car, treat it that way 😉
The way to avoid this is paint a piece of metal and let it dry see if it matches before you move forward takes about 1hr more saves massive amounts of time
Nice paint job westen on the upside of your colour dilemma the colour you sprayed looks like it matches you GW hat pretty closely Ain’t nothin to it just to do it Thanks for all your hard work and videos fellas 👍👍👍👍👍
1. I keep seeing comments that we should have got the paint code for the truck off the vin. We did..
hey WES, should have had the time to test spray a few panels on scrap this way you could have gotten a bettter idea of the color, think there was a base undercoat lighter that uyou failed to apply test shoot some panels amd match in sun
Sometimes paint just comes out like that and red is the hardest color to blend and match up!
It gives it that nice 2 tone look LOL

same here darker much better

Totally agree
2 things:
1: dont forget the matte black strip on the b pillar!
2: is it possible that was the right color, but the primer was too dark with too thin a coat of paint?
Chris O no that’s not a possibility
No because they painted the door that was white after just scuffing the white paint.
Believe the strips are vinyl, they are removable or they could try and find one.
@@ixionn563 Yes they are indeed vinyl, i've got a 2012 1500 in the same color.
primer? I suggested in last video he needs to sand and prime.

Dont blend, just repaint the door and fender.
Awesome vids guys.
Darker primer makes for a darker color in my experience
That makes sence, maybe he should have primed in white.
Be interested to see what the old guard is primed in
Exactly. White primer probably would have made it match.
Bingo.
The only issue with using light colored primers is paint consumption
Would use a lot more paint to cover
And also if the Color is off that bad then it’s not the primers fault
They should have went to go get it matched and then blended it
Great paint job and nice video!

sand down a spot on the old door, i would almost guarantee that the primer used at factory is white or light grey, and there in lays your problem
You know that's a great point. I didn't even think of that
This is accurate. Likely white or light grey. Same thing happened to me the first time I used red paint.
Was just looking to se if someone wrote that 😂 black Base = dark colour
I'm no painter, but that does make sense. If you look at the original color on the rear door it is much lighter, so possibly a white primer.
Yep, they'd use different types of primer depending on the final color, so for bright colors its going to be white or light grey and for dark colors its going to be dark grey or black. Makes for less paint needed to cover the primer
