    My Dad’s old Makita radio he has had for years and it’s never worked via the battery. He gave it to me when he bought a new DAB one and I saw this video and asked if we could try it. Now it works! Amazing so pleased (he’s slightly amazed and annoyed!) Thank you.

    I used this to steer me towards the fault. Found it inside the socket. If you carefully remove the socket you can take it apart and there are contacts within the socket that are not working to pass through the battery feed. gently bend the contacts back into place and it now works both on battery and mains.

    Thank u, Thank u very much for your fine way of explaining the problem with these radio,s.
    Last year i found one of these in the dumpster on the constructin side.
    I tested it with a battery and it did nothing.
    Yesterday i started to investigate this radio in the hope to find the problem on the PCB.
    Nothing i could find.
    Jumped behind the laptop for youtube examples, and there are you and some other guy doing the same trick.
    This evening i soldered that bridge, and voila...playing like jukebox!!!!
    Thank u very much man, have nice day!!!

    Great info, worked. I bridged the wires as shown in the video but did not remove the jack. Now works on mains (12v) and battery (10.8v & 18v). Itd did not work on battery before. (DMR200 bluetooth speaker 1st generation without display) THANKS A LOT

    excellent, just fixed this 5 mins ago on my brother in laws. His problem was it was plugged into power and just stopped all of a sudden, but also would not work on batteries . I wasnt sure if this was going to solve this as this video was only for if you have no power from batteries.
    anyway, i removed the jack (hes happy if it can just work with batteries for the site) i just put a big blob of solder , no wire , to bridge the points as they are that close together anyway . stuck a battery in and shes working now. many thanks Gerry.
    maybe i will source a jack for it if anyone knows where you get them

    Ten konektor se dá snadno opravit. Po odpájení se kontakty dají vyndat šoubovákem, očistit a vráti zpět. Jde to snadno.

    Can this be done and still work with both or do you need to by pass the 240 plug for battery to work?

    I was really hoping to get a tip to get my Metabo radio fixed. But no luck this time unfortunately. 🙁
    It does not have a power connector, it has a fixed cable.
    But thanks for the video. 👍

    HI, just wondering what you did, it sort of looked like you joined the positive to the negative, of thats the case why would you do that and how come if that's correct it now works.?

    What I have is a Makita bluetooth speaker. I assumed that they would use the same fastener as the radio. Nothing that I have tried seems to engage the fastener. It must be some kind of security bit.

    • @GerrysDiy

      Hi Davish. I am not familiar with the bluetooth version of this radio. Easiest thing I can think of is to get some light in there and take a photo of teh scret with your phone. There are only a couple of security screws in general use and it is easy to get screwdrivers for them. Sorry I cant help Good luck with the repair Cheers Gerry👍

    Do you think, or does it look like you could short-out the cable that goes into the plug on the PCB rather than doing a solder link?

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wire going to the pcb has positive and negative and should not be shorted. The link is just bypassing the positive only. shorting the pcb would be the same as shorting the battery as far as I remember. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry 👍

    The two screws on the inside of the battery compartment. What kind of driver does one need to get those out?

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Davish50. They are just a Philips headed screw #2 Hope this helps and good luck with your repair Cheers Gerry👍

    Great video. I couldn't work out how to get the front off. Now I see a few sneaky screws in from behind :-). Do you by any chance know if there's a fix to make the sound less bassy? I can't believe it doesn't have tone control on it for such an expensive radio.

    Looks like it's capable of taking both the new and the old style battery packs. Backwards compatibility is always a plus.

      Hi John. These are great radios and with the led mod it makes it a must on every site I go to. I don't have any of the older battery types but it can take them. Nearly all my makita batteries are over 5 years old now so it's time to get some new ones. I use the old ones in the radio until they die but I have had great service from them. Thanks for the comment. Cheers Gerry

    Great vid buddy, just wondering if you need to remove the input jack to bridge the contacts or just bridge them in situe? Thank you rich

    • @cho4d
      @cho4d 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A year late but as i understand it when working as intended inserting the power plug would break the circuit and removing the power plug would close the circuit. All we're doing is hard closing the circuit so it never thinks a plug is plugged in. In short: no i don't think you don't need to remove the thing.

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Colin. Essentially what happens is that the plugin socket stays stuck open and shuts off the battery. All I did was bridge out the live on the power socket bypassing the switch. Video could have been much better. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍

    I had the same issue after using it with the 240v cable cause I needed all my batteries and gave the 240v plug a good couple of love taps and it's now powering up with the batteries so maybe try that before pulling it apart
