Thank you. This was very helpful. I took notes for my upcoming trip in a couple of weeks. :) At what time of the day would you recommend going to the Hawker Centers if you wanna try and avoid the peak hours?
yay! best time is weekdays between 9-11AM or 2-5PM to avoid the working crowd. HOWEVER if you're aiming to try a particular hawker, try to check online if they list down their schedule because some have days they do not operate.
Once I was queuing for the CKT (heavily pregnant 😊), the lady helper saw me and took my order first with few more in front … I thought it was so sweet coming from a senior lady like her ❤
When I went to this hawker centre the shops were always closed so I preferred the maxwell centre. Maybe I went at the wrong time, I don't know. Thanks you for explaining what these dishes are!! Could you explain what porridge is please? I saw this a lot. I enjoyed the hainese chicken and the chili crab. It was a fun experience to try a different dish at the hawker centre every day 😊
Ohhh, some hawker may only choose to serve lunch crowd. especially those nearer to office area. So if you come during dinner most hawkers might have closed shop... or sold out Porridge is actually just rice cooked 10x over HAHAH But take note theres the starchy porridge that's cooked til you cant see the grains and theres the "Teochew" porridge which is more like a flooded overcooked rice. The starchy porridge is usually served with toppings like minced pork/sliced chicken/peanuts/pig liver/century egg. The Teochew porridge is usually eaten with side dishes. BEWARE. Many Teochew porridge places are quite shady with their pricing. You'll pick your side dishes THEN pay, so sometimes they overcharge the side dishes, but you already "taken" them so cannot cancel. When in doubt, ask first how much things are. The hainanese chicken rice is a staple for us here ^^ Have fun trying more!!
@@dashingheights Thanks for the explanation! Sometimes too many choices also so I spent hours deciding and then an hour queuing hahaha but always satisfied so worth the wait. 🙂
I have just finished editing a video to answer this exact question, coming up this Friday ^^ For a quick answer, it's a food-center where you can find rows of food stalls and common seating area. Lots of local food option at affordable prices :)
heyaaa unfortunately i only know good vegetarian places in Little India!! but my fav hawker center in that area is Bedok 85 (now called Fengshan hawker)
@@dashingheights I dun fancy the Malaysian BKT. It is not a broth, it is tau kee gravy. Too oily and gross to drink it like a broth. SG version is way better, I always ask for refill twice.

Hey! The map link takes me to a Rifle Range park, not the hawker center. I want to retire in SG once I save up 1 million USD. Still have a ways to go.
Heya, fixed thanks for reporting :) All the best!!

TH-cam - Street Food Singapore!! 5 Hawker FOODS INVENTED in Singapore - with KF Seetoh! - Mark Wiens - July 9, 2022.
I love Mark Wiens!
3:12 ur at the wrong bak chor mee stall lol
the one with Michelin star / best is at crawford.... Tai Hwa not Tai Wah
apparently they are both "famous"!!
anyways my wife said lucky it was closed because she thinks i wont like the price lol
The BKT is the hokkien BKT, more like the Malaysian BKT.
yea it's the herbal BKT, more like the ones i tried in Malaysia. The soup too strong though. so i still prefer the Malaysian BKT
