    One reason pinarello and canyon are top could be because the pinarello and canyon are so heavily used on the most popular cycling TH-cam channel. Advertising works wonders!

      A sponsored channel that does also reviews, what could go wrong?
      There are like 40 bike manufacturers out there, which make pretty much the same high-end bike as Canyon and Pinarello.

    For the most desirable bike, I believe that brand mystique and/or reputation is a huge factor. For the average cyclist, it is important to focus on what is a 'super bike for you.' For me, my Pinarello Prince is the best bike I have ever owned. While most would not label my bike as a 'super bike' by the standards of the day, it is indeed a super bike to me.

    The artwork that so comprehensively confused Dennis and Terry is an homage to a Ukrainian postage stamp commemorating the defenders of Snake Island during the early days of the Russian invasion. One of the defenders famously said "Russian warship, go f*&ck yourself". The flames in the picture predict the demise of said warship, the Black Sea Fleet flagship Moskva, which happened a couple of months later. Definitely an unusual backdrop for a bike vault submission. Maybe also an argument for a GCN 'Current Events' channel :)

    • @trdi
      @trdi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is the painting pro Russian or pro Ukrainian, though? I mean today we know that the story was made up and all 70+ of these "defenders" surrendered. So if this is really commemorating that event, it must be a parody.
      I remember how shocked everyone was when they were all given awards, posthumously, and couple of days later they were all seen getting off the ship in Crimea and onto the bus.

      @alextrigger8199 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@trdi the fact that the defenders survived is actually pretty great, as lives were spared. Doesn't take away the fact that they indeed radioed the said ship to go and f**k itself when told to surrender. Not that they could actually do much on a piece of rock under missile fire, so eventually they were taken prisoners, but at the time Ukrainians didn't know about their fate. And yes - the Moskva eventually did go and do what it was told to do, with some help from two Ukrainian anti-ship missiles.

    Bent mech hangers are way more common than you think. New bikes right out of the box will usually have a mech hanger that needs a bit of love. In the 10-speed days, you didn't really notice it as much because the tolerances for shifting were not as tight as they are today. not that it happens often but anytime shifting is off on my 12-speed, I break out the hangar tool first to check that alignment before I touch anything else.

    Aw man... While the Dogma F is kind of a work of art, there's something about the Aeroad which I really like. The straight lines, the thicker seat stays, the way the seat tube follows the shape of the back wheel. The Aeroad is definitely my dream bike right now.

    You should look in MKBHD's last phone camera head-to-head. They took the same photo with a number of cameras then had a site where people could vote. The voting worked by showing two similar photos side by side and you chose which one you preferred. They then crunched the data using a sort of "Elo" system (like for chess) which then ranked each photo independently of others.
    To do this with bikes you just put up photos of different bikes instead and then show two random bikes next to each other and the voter chooses which one they like more.
    This has a benefit of stopping smaller brands from getting knocked out of competition because there is no bracket to be eliminated from. In the end the photo, or bike with the highest rating wins and you can have further insights into things like "highest vote disparity" and even "Elo per dollar" or "most divisive bike". One of the benefits of the Elo system is bikes that are well liked and voted on are impacted more by less popular bikes beating them out when head to head.

    One thing that makes a brand (not necessarily a specific bike) is the brands stance on equal pay and amti-discrimination. Trek a few years ago bridged the gap in prize money for their women's team and because of that I find the brand so much more ethical and thus desirable.

    Concerning the massive chain rings. Ganna and others don't need those humongous chain rings, because they want the massive 70-11 gear. It's more so that they can avoid using the smaller cogs and therefore stay in the middle of the cassette and keep the chain in more of a straight line, thereby having better drivetrain efficiency.
    Of course it only works well on flat routes, otherwise they'll die on the hills.

    Massively fun show again guys! For bicycles and cars, the greatest emotional draw has to be visual appearance, such as the incomparable Jaguar E type (XK-E in N. America) and in bikes, the Pinarello Dogma F. The one category in don't hear much about is riding comfort. More than racing, I like a touring bicycle, one you can ride comfortably for several hours without discomfort or outright pain until you get to that wonderful coffee stop where you want to feel eager to get back on the bike.

I'm game for a third competition for brands using exotic materials (excludes aluminum, carbon fiber, and steel main tubes a.k.a - bamboo/titanium/magnesium/etc.) then a fourth competition for most desirable gravel bikes (aka - drop bar bikes that can handle a 35mm or larger tire size). Even more fun - a fifth competition for just those bikes ridden to victory in a grand tour, one day classic, world championship, or Olympic bike race (including individual bikes ridden during time trial and prolog stages). Of course that last one is a popularity contest but it identifies legendary bikes that have won races (One of my favorites - the Lotus 108).

    Believe you can do small conpany bike pull easear and more reliable way. All bike smashed in one pull, but let choose 3, 4 or 5 of them instead of one. This way it easia to chose to voters, and you going to get verry clear picture, what bikes choosen more often.
    P.S. There should be supernice picture of every presented bike, because of small amount of them going to be recognisable.

    Pinarello is the LEAST desirable bike in my eyes! Horrible weird lines on the forks and frame. Each to their own I guess.

    When it comes to most desirable bikes, DeRosas will always be up there. The Rolls Royce of bike brands.

    Remco put so much effort in uploading his bike under a pseudonym! Now he is either crying or furiously coming to the Global Bike Festival to ride Ollie into the ground on the Großglockner. 😂

    Please do a survey of custom-made bikes. My own bike is a Laverack Grit Titanium gravel bike made locally in the town of Oakham.

    Pinarello sheesh what a shocker! LOL ... Now there is an Issue this is a desirable bike mainstream... and I hope the upcoming custom small brands come soon because I certainly prefer a custom over the dogma the system six or the Canyon.

    Mech hangers are a sacrificial link between the frame and the mech. a big hit may damage the mech, will probably bend or snap the hanger, but is less likely to damage the frame. Having the hanger really strong and built into the mech may result in more damaged carbon frames.

    The painting from the last bike vault entry is in reference to a couple events early on during Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A Ukrainian soldier on Snake Island responded "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" to a radio message from the ship shown in that painting. The Russians did take Snake Island but the Ukrainians took it back and that same ship was destroyed later on in the war.
