    Lees than a year into my scotch journey and I had to come back to this video because I finally had my first experience with HP, and it happened to be this discontinued 15 yr. I found a single dusty bottle at a local liquor store for $100 and a guy at work split it with me and my what a great first experience! I have a wee bit left I’m saving to share with a good friend of mine but this was def my first treasure find and will hold a special place in my heart! Glad you guys enjoyed it so much too

    Drink the Full Volume on a clean palate. It’s really great and unique. Better than the 15 and 18 IMO.

    HP 15, 18 and the Dark Origin are fantastic. I can't wait to get my hand on the CS that just got released.

    First of all, great video! I'd like to see your recommendations for various whiskeys from different areas, as like a series. For example, you might start with scotch, and start with the Speyside region or any of the others. Furthermore, you could have a line up of a bunch of Speyside whiskeys and suggest one for budget, quality, starting and if you want to spend a little cash, etc. I believe this would be a good series, as I appreciate watching these videos and I feel like many other people do as well if they want to increase their knowledge for personal reasons, gifts, etc. Finally, you might already have something like this planned, but when I search on TH-cam to find out about a certain group, I just get show one bottle review, that might be too expensive and/ or unavailable. Referring back to my previous question, it would be nice to search a certain whiskey category and have a recent video that shows recommendations for different types of whiskey to meet different requirements.

    Full Volume might be my favorite HP release since they discontinued the older version of the core in favor of all the Viking nonsense. HP's distillate is sublime, IMO, and FV showcases it beautifully with that nice 17yo maturity. Give me this over any of their cheaply sherry-doped releases any day. Your saving grace was picking the 15 in first place, i have a couple of those bunkered still. Really nice bottle. =)

    The Full Volume is such a complex, unique and tropical dram, much better than the 12, 15 and 18 year old ones.

    What a brilliant line up with the discontinued 15 and the 1st fill sherry cask strength bottling--Good to get everyone's view on the 18--sounds like it is still a good buy.

    Great review. But should have done the Full Volume before the Single Barrel. Personally I think the Full Volume is better than the 12, 15, and 18. You lose a ton of subtlety because of doing the 66% ABV first.

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah - it probably would have been a good one to start with. It definitely wasn't bad - it was enjoyable for sure, just very different from the rest of the lineup.

    Great Drink-Through! Just one note, maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, but be careful of overvaluing color when comparing scotches. Highland Parks’ P/R materials say they don’t use coloring, but many scotch producers do (and it’s completely legal there, unlike in American Bourbon).

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup - definitely aware of this! It is also rampant in rum and tequila unfortunately.

    If you want a Sherry bomb: Longrow 14 Sherry, Hazelburn 13 or 14 Olorosso. Blows the HP 18 out of the water.

    Just bought a bottle of the Single Cask Heart of it All which was done specifically for Ohio..13 yo Refill Sherry Butt..578 bottle run. 63.2% ABV…It may be my favorite Highland Park..and yes..the touch of H2O does really change the flavor profile. If you can handle the proof…try your first dram neat…then try another with water…

    Great drink through! I just saw HP Single Cask Series Kirkwall at a big box retailer for $165. First fill oak sherry puncheon at 64.5% but 11 years instead of 12. Maybe it's similar to the single barrel in the review? I'm a fan of Highland Park so tempted by this...

      Hmm. That is a great question. I think they’re slightly different beasts. I think HP15 is amazing (old version) but Hibiki 21 finish and mouthfeel will probably win out. I like the punchiness of HP (soft spot for HP) but also love the elegance and mouthfeel and subtle flavors of hibiki. I think score wise, hibiki will eek it out. Cheers! -Dillon

    The first scotch And the first whiskey I had was a sip of Laphroaig 28. At the time I didn’t quite realize how special it was as a whisky, ofcourse i understood it was something unusual since the cold war was still going on when that stuff was put in the barrel. And now I realize I can’t afford it🤣 anyway not long time after I got my first bottle of scotch which was a Lagavulin 16. That was 7 years ago.
