    I agree with Dillon! I am glad that you covered the gold and Sinatra version. Of all the Jack, I only have the Jack SBDP on my bar. I love the way it coats the tongue with long finish. It is an outstanding whiskey for the $69 price tag. Now you need to do a blind JD SB BF, EC BP, and Stagg Jr.

    I don't care what anyone says, the Barrel Proof is by far the best value in the world, THE BEST whiskey you can walk in and buy off the shelf and one of the best whiskeys there is. I will take it all day long over ECBP. The Single Barrel Select is damn good as well.

    “Stewed fruit”... I’ve never been able to find a flavor or aroma in any bourbon of stewed fruit. It’s a true Dillonism.. and the ‘jam’ . Huge fan of the JDSBBP... might be the best barrel proof bourbon for the money that is findable. I really like the Sinatra edition.. I picked it over a Old Fitz 9 yr in a tasting. Great stuff fellas!!

  • @MrRossman2

    I have to agree that Gentleman Jack is definitely kidney filtered. Don't buy at any price. Also, agree that the barrel proof is really good. I wouldn't say it's the best whiskey in it's price range, but it's definitely worth the money and it's different enough from others that it's worth having in your collection.
    I have never tried the Sinatra or the Gold and I'm glad that I watched this video before buying those. I was seriously thinking about it, but the price per proof point made me hesitate.

    I think the Gentleman Jack is supposed to appeal to those who are new or want to mix Jack and coke with a more subdued whiskey flavor. However, I think it should be higher ABV then the regular Jack Daniels for the price. Awesome drink through guys, cheers!

    I agree JD7 and JDBP are the 2 must haves. JD7 is the ultimate classic. You can sip neat throughout the night, you can add a cube and it's basically a mixed drink. Jack and Coke, forget about it... iconic! Jack and Coke has always been my concert, casino, club go to. Weirdly I am so tuned into Jack and Cokes that I can taste the difference in a JD7 and a Heritage more in a Jack and Coke than I can neat. The JDBP... Stagg Jr 12 and JDBP are the two best barrel proofs I have ever had. I find a lot like EC and 4 roses to be spicy, whereas JD and Stagg Jr. bring the caramel, vanilla, chocolate, cream.

    Bought a bottle of Gentleman Jack at Costco about a year ago and thought it was great! Since then I have been tasting some of the other CP recommendations as well as other picks I found. What a difference a year makes--it now ranks near the bottom of the following I have tried:
    early on and still a favorite: Knob Creek 9 year old, great body, taste and finish--maybe not as refined as those below but a good value
    Knob Creek 12 year old-just terrific
    Old Forester regular bottle--just great and a bargain price
    Old Forester 110-now one one my big favorites
    Old Forester 120-great but still prefer the 110

    SBBP is by far the best JD in the regularly available line. I know it doesn't happen in Drinkthroughs, but I would've liked to see some blending of the Gold and Sinatra. See if you can add the Gold's finish to the Sinatra's 'kick'.

    The JD line is forked. Along one branch is the stuff for our "crowd." The JDSB & JDSBBP as well as the other special editions in the "Pagoda" shaped bottles. But then for us line extensions are an additive process. More age, more wood finishes, more proof, etc. equals challenging and interesting. For a lot of more casual consumers, line extensions are actually about increasing refinement, ultimately a subtractive process. They are looking for "smoother" more drinkable and user friendly upgrades along their branch, from the base No.7. Less burn, less spikey flavors, less challenge. Like the GJ & No. 27. We think it taste like water. They want it to go down like water. That doesn't make them wrong, they're just not in our end of the pool. The Sinatra is firmly in the Celeb Spirits category for me though. It just doesn't suck the way most of those bottle do.

  • @apeekintime
    @apeekintime 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof is easily above most Larceny/ECBP for me. There are a few batches, like the Larceny B523, that really bring it but overall I'd take the JD. JD SBBP are usually cheaper in my area and far easier to find ($60 and available vs $70-80 and occasionally available). The JD SBBP's are underrated by most bourbon aficionados since they aren't considered "allocated" by most stores or buyers. If people caught on to how good the JD SBBPs are then they would quickly jump to $80-100 and be impossible to find. Similar to how the JD SBBP's are trending right now.

    The legacy bottles at 86proof (which they really should just bottle Old No.7 at again) have become a cheap go-to sipper for me. Sinatra Select tastes good but based on when Sinatra was around he just drank Old No.7 bottled at 90 proof. The extra ribs in the barrel and fancy packaging are simply a marketing ploy to get people to overpay for it. I'll stick with the SiBs for high-end JD. Another great Drinkthrough(tm) though!

    Does jam = stone fruit for Dillon?

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stone fruit describes a specific flavor group while "fresh," "ripe," "stewed," and "jam" describe the quality of that flavor profile. Like an apple has a different flavor from a peach. And likewise a fresh peach has different aspects of the flavor highlighted versus a stewed peach. hope that makes sense!

A $40 markup to me is just a finders fee/service I'd pay to avoid driving everywhere hoping to run into it. Especially where I live, everything popular is marked up at least 10% at booze stores. As long as there's not enough of the great stuff to go around it's going to demand a higher price just like anything else. When you're talking about crazy mark ups like Pappy I think not paying secondary might eventually work, but avoiding a $20 to $50 markup isn't going to change anything and for people like me that don't have a chance at some bottles for retail we'll suffer.
