I snagged the BluesDriver clone - it's a sweetie! The delay is interesting, too - but is not really in DMM territory. The input gain stage and self-oscillation of a DMM is a filthier, wilder animal - not unlike a messier version of a solid-state Echoplex. There's some hiss/noise it seems to be adding, making for some extra airiness or a slight vocal "ahhh" to the repeats.
From the sound of it, the Falling Star is probably a clone of the Keeley Mag Echo which has been popular lately, a PT2399 based Delay. PTs can be really good at emulating Tape delays in particular. It sounds like this one might have some additional filtering on it thus the memory man vibes. There's generally more analog filtering going on in the feedback loop too. I love that there are cheaper options now because Boutiques having a monopoly on a chip that was pretty much old tech when it was released(but still very cool).
Bought the Absolute Zero “Fuzz” in the hope that it did have actual germanium and silicon transistors in it. Sadly not. It is all surface mount with the foot switch made by Caline on it. It has 2 what looks like Mosfets, and I can get it to sound nearly identical to my Fulltone OCD, so it’s an OCD clone with weird knobs. The Si/Ge switch corresponding to the high/low of the OCD. As an OCD clone it’s fine, but it’s NOT a fuzz.
@60cyclehum, That is definitely a PT2399 based delay pedal. I've designed a few of them (with and without modulation ) and when you do want that loft sound, they're great!
Ive read in these comments that the falling star is more like a keely mag echo, Im thinking this as well but have nothing to actually base that descision on except for the controls alone lol. What would you say on this?
I love when you find pedals that are hard to place in the Affordaboard range - it gets tiring having the same few clones over and over even if they're very good and we would have killed 20 years ago to have them that cheap, sometimes they either purposely or accidentally mix things up. A good example with Muffs are the two I have - the Biyang Fuzz Star, "roughly" A Ram's head, and the Honey Pot, "roughly" a Green Russian, neither a copy of any commonly known circuit.
The falling star is absolutely pt2399 based like the Mag Echo clone. I had the demon or mosky and the delay is really dark and gritty but the modulation was really good.
