I've been keto/carnivore for 3 months. ALL my blood tests have come back norm. 3 months ago I was prediabetic. Best of all (to me), is that my emphysema has drastically improved. It would take me 45 minutes to walk to my nearest shop. I'd get there, sweating profusely and extremely out of breath. Now? I can MARCH there in 15 minutes and not be out of breath. OMG! The inflammation is banished 😁
long term, it's terrible for your cardiovascular system, plus killing all those sweet animals. My friend did it for years, boasted about his test results, and just had a heart attack. Fruit and veggies are good for you, meat not so much.

Hi Mike, I'm a 60 year old woman based in UK and I'd like to thank you for your content. We don't have access to any blood work or tests here so maintaining optimal health is even more important. I've been doing endurance training for some years now and I also do some strength work but very little nutritional advice is aimed at the older female athlete . Thanks in part to your content I have increased protein, cut down carbs without getting too carried away as I still need to fuel my workouts and cut out all highly processed foods including all sorts of 'sports' supplements. Without tests it's difficult to be sure of the effects of changes but my Garmin tells me I have the fitness level of a 21 year old!

I fell down the stairs holding my baby at age 30. Really damaged my right foot. Lots of broken bones. Baby was fine as I fell with my body wrapped around her. By 42 that foot was really hurting. X-rays showed degenerative bone disease. Ever step was painful, and I averaged around 70 thousand steps a day at my job. I was told I would be in a wheelchair by 57. And to lose weight. At that point I had been starving myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fibre calories a day for about 22 years. When pregnant I upped it to 1600. Gained 80 pounds. Felt guilty for gaining weight and guilty for not eating as much as I was suppose to. When my husband had 3 strokes and we found out he was diabetic I put him on the diet they gave me at the hospital. Every 3 weeks both he and his blood work were worse. Went on for 8 months. Read Good Calories, Bad Calories. Watched The Oiling of America. Changed both of our diets to the old British diet in the prologue. His next bloodwork improved. Several months later a stranger understood him. I craved butter on the new diet and ate it non stop for the first several months. Still losing weight, so I went for it. I had years of starvation at that point. Then one day I was walking down the stairs and realized my foot did not hurt. That was 13 years ago. I am almost 65 and I can hop on that foot. I can also get dressed from a standing position. Rare at my age. I think the low carb, combined with something my body recognized it needed in the butter healed my foot.
Sweet. One thing I know about butter is that, especially in the spring time, it has a lot of vitamin K2 in it. Vitamin K2 is essential for directing calcium into the bones. It would be so interesting to me if that was part of why you craved butter and why you got your improvements.
@@bitrudder3792 Been taking K2 with my D3, but the MK7 type since I rarely have fermented foods. Had no idea butter had K2 (assuming MK4 type). I have been using butter and olive oil and no margerine anymore and really watching the seed oils. With keto I already have less inflammation, and this makes me feel even better about my butter use.
People need to embrace a "health span" vs a "lifespan". (Also, LOVE the electrolyte stix! I've ordered 7 boxes now to stock up for the spring to fall and I tell everyone I workout with about them!)
I know personally if I cheat and eat some sweets or something I feel it in my joints the next day, big time, and it stays for as long as I eat that way. It's crazy. If I eat clean I almost have no pains at all.
Went to a Specialists 33 years ago and he suggested to be refined Sugar free due to High Blood Sugar Levels even though I was training a heap. He stated that I would be a Diabetic by the time I'm 50. I took his advice and am very happy
I think what's even more important is spiritual factors. If your soul is sick your body will follow, no matter how good your diet and exercise program are. If you work a job you hate and you don't follow your dreams/passions, this will literally suck the life out of you. Take a look at people who did what they really wanted to in life and how great they look, they are eternally youthful. Definitely stay away from processed foods loaded with sugar, keep your body strong, eat a wholefood diet, but also don't work a job that doesn't bring meaning into your life.
Ok I’m 70 in approximately 26 months and since being on my 5th year of keto/IF myPCP is shocked & still doesn’t understand what I’m doing. Got off ALL 17Rx 4 years now. This video is somewhat helpful since I can’t go back to 40 years old so I pay attention to what is possible now and try to make it realistic for what I CAN do. Going to ck out the unused gym in my apartment complex for a stationary bike and treadmill & hours available. I’m ready for the next step!
I was always a very active person . After my first son, my thyroid was off didn’t know at the time what was happening to me. Hospitalized for it,so bad . An that was the start of my journey with weight loss struggles. It’s to bad I didn’t have all this information years ago. I started the fasting I’m up to 20hr , eating foods with No BAR CODES ! Have had a 30 lb loss over a year , sticking with this new lifestyle. I can relate to much of what he described. Trouble with joints , ruptures , with knees . I’ll be looking into his recommendations . At 65 you need all the help you can get to keep moving . I’m not going to stop moving even if I have achy days ! Thanks for the info, very helpful !
Another terrific video Mike, so full of data that one cannot ignore. I’m an MT & esthetician and skin care is huge yet most focus externally and topically rather than on what they’re eating. It’s not a discipline many have nor achieve sadly. Went keto 4 years ago and it’s helped me look younger, along with exercise and when I eat, I ask myself is this advancing my health? Long term form and function is a top value for me. I do fall off occasionally, feel the effects for days, then back to healthy eating. Appreciate you efforts and love your channel. Thank you. Great information! So many reasons to NOT have a high carb diet. I just restarted keto again last week and I'm totally on board for this! My hair and skin have been so dry. I'm hoping it helps reducing my carbs. Part of it is also my water in my city though as it's "hard" water and dries everything out.
Humans evolved on less than pure water sometimes highly alkaline water. The small amount of minerals in hard water won't hurt you. My local water is soft so I add aussie minerals to each glass I drink.
Thanks Mike. I am working with a lot of seniors and I am amazed at how many people have had knee and hip surgery. In the early 1900's osteoarthritis virtually didn't exist. What is the cause of osteoarthritis and all the joint surgeries? Would love it if you had an answer to this one.
The answer: K2 deficiency. Look at what foods are the main source: grass-fed animal fats. If you are low fat, grain fed animal eating or even low meat your bone health will degrade due to k2 deficiency. Look up the book Calcium Paradox if you want the answers.

I just turned,69. Look like in the 40s. Can never order senior meals without showing ID, chasing away at senior swimming pool hour, people pulled my hair to see if I am wearing a wig. My rules are , 2 hours daily walk, everyday IF 16/8, cooking daily meals with a lean nutritious foods. My only issue, going to bed after 3 am daily. The longer staying up at night the funnier life is. I aged but life continues....... So, Mike, any advice to correct my sleep pattern? My biggest struggle, not insomnia, I sleep quickly once in bed but the timing. A million thanks to you
Get up at sunrise and look into the sun. Open your eyes wide to get full spectrum. This will help with your circadian rhythm, and get it back in line. Blue light glasses after dark help, too.

Lost all hair about 15 years past. Lost most energy 7 years past. Researched extensively and figured this was just genetic predestination. Low carb OMAD and fasting helps my energy improve. But since the hair loss I made a 'recipe' for greater collagen synthesis ie. when eating protein I eat it along side vit C and sulphur rich foods in same gut load. I'm 62 yrs, folk often tell me how lovely my skin is....so i reckon I am doing something right. Thank you for the pep talk Mike. I MUST really do that 10 minute walk after my meal. Hair transplantation in Turkey is pretty reasonable cheap. I have read a long time ago the Vitamin B 'PABA' can reduce hair loss, but it was also stated once it is lost you can not get it back with higher / sufficient PABA levels in your diet or supplementation.

I grew up very heavy. Most of my adult life I have low carbed. Lots of folks don't believe me when I tell them my age I still follow this diet and I add fasting to it also I still have bull crap to eat but it's usually once every week or two You have to have balance That's the key to anything

I wasn't even particularly metabolically unwell. My drs certainly weren't paying attention to that issue. Yet getting metabolically well has helped my connective tissue disease (hEDS) and all the autoimmune, neuro, gastric, psychiatric, etc, issues it inevitably implies. Good luck getting well from POTS, especially (and its cousin Long-Haul Covid, I betcha), and/or MCAS, with either hyper or hypo blood sugar. There's no way to defeat chronic fatigue on sugar. But this information is encouraging and could indicate that my whole foods, low-carb, animal-based diet and healthy lifestyle may be aiding my unstable joints, too, and helping me avoid the progression of my underlying defective collagen. WOOT.
I am doing all I can to stay healthy. These were good tips. I am going to order Berberine. I heard on a podcast that walking is important and the guy suggested parking a few blocks from where you work. I now park 6 minutes from my job. I am forced to walk right after work. I am not sure if my blood sugar has gone down, but I hope all the little things I do make a difference. It seems my blood sugars remain high no matter what I do. I won't give up.
This video is eye opening for me. I’m one of those guys that has taken in a ton of information on blood sugar, keto, carnivore, testosterone, and all things optimizing health, yet still eats way too much garbage. I’ve got a ton of weight to lose and you know what I’ve been dealing with for that last month or two? Pain in my heal/achilles area. The only thing I can think of that possibly aggravated that area was when I was doing step ups in my routine for several months prior. And then I came upon this video. I need to get my eating under control! 😳

My metabolism has been a mess in the last 15 years, but my A1C is always 4.6, I only eat what I make from scratch, no oils, no processed meat. But ever increasing Intolerance to Salicylates. Lots of mouth burning, gum, throat and nasal swelling. It was becoming life threatening with things as simple as mint and cherries. I recently realized the center of the swelling and burning was one tooth, with a metal core crown on it. I went to a biologic dentist who ran a lot of test. Turned out that crowned tooth had so much chronic infection it ate through the bone and was deep into the sinus. Within 15 minutes of the tooth extraction the feeling of marbles in my nasal septum was gone. Two weeks after I'm able to eat fruits and veggies again!
I have high blood sugar but I take lots of vitamin C to counteract the negative effects. My skin is great my hair is great and my nails won't stop growing.
Hi Mike! I love your channel and the great info you share. Thank you! I’d so love to get your input on my A1C. It went from 5.4 (was that way for years) to 5.6!! I’m a 53 year old female, BMI of 21, low BP, I’m physically active on a daily bases (hiking, yoga, push-ups), I focus on lots of vegetables and local, good quality meats. The only reason I could think of is maybe my cortisol levels have been too high (I’m finishing a masters in nursing program, very intense!) and also, I’ve been eating about 1/3 cup yogurt that we make at home from grass fed cows, with lots of fruit in it (I’ve cut that out now!) I’m just kind of blown away by this new number! It’s hard to believe that it could be so high with the way I eat! Imagine if I ate sweets every day like so many others! I’d greatly appreciate any input you have!
Not sure I’ve had this specific test in my panels run before. I’ve had glucose, but it lists different ranges. Will ask for this in the future. How do you make your kefir/yogurt? Are there different tests we should be having when older than 50? Agree on the strength training and veggies
Great video Mike… I’m 47, supplement collagen, creatine and zinc. I feel my tendons now more than when I was younger, in fact I don’t recall feeling when younger. Anyway, present well and get plenty of comments on my physique and skin, so I guess I’m doing something right. Love your channel mate.
I looked 15 years younger on a raw vegan diet. I looked 15 years younger on a keto diet. The moment I'm having too many carbs or refined carbs wrinkles appear. Raw vegan was not sustainable. The best of both worlds for me is eating proteins + fats + veggies at all times. Only one meal with carbs + proteins + fruit after working out in the morning and I feel great for the rest of the day.
Raw vegan helps you clear all the waste and chemicals and parasites away so you can rebuild with complex proteins balanced later! Most people can't do this because they are filled up lymphaticalltly with waste and unprocessed chemicals and food. Water fasting activates stem cells and that's the real root cause regeneration. People abuse carnivore and vegan way too hard and don't do enough research and end up doing damage. And they also don't look at their genes and tailor their daily intake to that. Or pay attention to their microbiome. The problem is people trying to eat meat and dairy on an already acidic and backed up body, and then they go 180 and don't address the previous gland issues and vice versa for vegan people and grains and beans. Eliminating foods, suppressing glands, and losing rapid weight is not true healing. I am one of those who cannot digest grains and beans based on genetics. But also, couldn't eat meat yet, cause I needed to deeply detox first.
Thank you for sharing this important information. It is extremely helpful. You just give us the reasons to eat real foods and stop killing ourselves by eating all the readily available processed foods. I share your information with my family trying to encourage them why they should eat real foods and stop eating this junk food.

I work at the airport doing physical labor, picking up over 100 bags a day and just physically active. While never easy in my working lifestyle, I am practicing mindful eating - eating just a meal a day and my sugar intake has reduced so much. Does eating collagen actually help grow collagen? It seems like when it’s broken down to be digested it would not reform as collagen but I don’t really know.
Great video. There are some additional things are helpful to know on this topic. My understanding is that the science shows that high blood sugar and also red meat shut off an enzyme system that creates the protein carnosine. You can supplement with carnosine as a way to block Advanced glycation end products, collagen cross-linking being one of the various types of advanced glycation end products. I'm skinny and struggle to keep weight on my body so I have to really keep on top of my carbs and I can't always be active after eating a meal with a fair amount of carbohydrates. And I have found I just feel better if I have a good amount of healthy carbs in my diet. However, my Fast Metabolism seems to need carbs more than the average person. I have found carnosine to be a great tool to use rhythmically as needed

Very timely content for me - recovering from surgery on my third tendon rupture ( I am very active at my age). What's interesting to me is that since mid-Jan I've been nearly full carnivore, had the best lipid results of my life (May) and can see results in skin. However, my tendons feel like they are worse off (ruptured the right triceps tendon and left one is feeling similar/tearing). Will have to dig further into glycation causes, since at least for me A1c has always been in the good range, but my whole family is at some level type 2 diabetic.
Are you eating organ meats? Muscle meats are much higher in zinc than organ meats, which depletes you of copper. Copper is essential for collagen. My friend was supplementing zinc and it was making her joints worse. As soon as she stopped (and also started taking a trace minerals with 2mg copper) the trouble she was having resolved itself. I highly recommend the book The Mineral Fix, it's really opened my eyes to proper ratios, etc.
@@Moses-ef6mu some and taking liver/thymus supplements. I was taking a lot of zinc to help with DOMS and sleep, and just ran into the same info you mention. Started adding in copper and am planning to get levels tested to check into any major issues. Thanks for the confirmation - I know that did play some part in this.
If we go low/zero carb with healthy animal fats, and prevent hyperglycemia/hyperinsulinemia, and we get no disease, what is going to kill us eventually? Serious question. Is it damage due to glycation anyway? Oxidation?
Carbs are important. As it's the primary fuel for energy and it's what bind water in our cells. Notice that if we have low carbs, it will lower our weight. Weight is not only fat. There are organs and muscles too that need energy & water. Idk about fats, ima search later. But energy from proteins are converted in kidney. It will damage our kidney if we want to fuel our energy from proteins.
I exercise daily. I am a runner🏃♀. I exercise while fasting, which I generally fast 12-16 hrs. A day. But I eat my meal at night before bed. I don’t typically eat meat or heavy protein bc it weighs me down. I do eat a lot of almonds, lean fish a couple times a week, avocados daily and lots of grapes, watermelon, papaya, cantaloupe AT NIGHT after midnight before bed. I wonder if this is been affecting my blood sugar. I have been experiencing osteopenia & joint pain lately.
Wow, I was struck by what Mike said at 1:56. He said, "It weakens the tendons and makes them more calcified." At 52, I tore my Gastrocnemius muscle away from my Achilles tendon. I was playing racquetball like I had for the past 15 years and suddenly, I felt like I had been whacked in the calf muscle. My Sports Medicine doctors had no explanation as to why this happened. I was told by one doctor to "be less competitive and let those shots go instead of lunging for the ball." Well, suffice it to say, this did not sit well with me. I was 52, not 92!!! Anyway, after reading Dr. Carolyn Dean's book, The Magnesium Miracle, I came to believe that maybe my muscles and tendons were too calcified due to a lack of magnesium and an abundance of calcium. Adequate magnesium will keep too much calcium out of the tissues of the body. My A1C has always been tested at just below the Pre-Diabetes range, so I never worried too much about it. In addition to taking magnesium, I am going to do more to control those blood sugar spikes. Jessie Inchauspe's new book, The Glucose Revolution has a lot of great tips along those lines. I just need to use what I have learned here and from others to avoid the processed foods.
I am a personal trainer and I work in a physical therapist office we get physical therapy patients with blown Achilles that makes a lot of sense now and some of the patients have come from other personal trainers where they blew out their Achilles while trying to exercise now I understand why and trying to develop an exercise program for diabetics that preserve those Achilles
I really agree with this … the problem is that most people will have high insulin for 15 years or so before there blood sugars are picked up!…. This has to change … the damage is being done whilst the insulin is high…. When the blood sugars are super unstable you have already done so much damage …. Request fasting insulin bloods!… HBA1c is good but only at picking up blood sugars over long term … won’t pick up hyper insulinanemia ..
I am 33 now but often get mistaken for being somewhere in my early to mid 20s. Now it could be said that because I don’t have a lot of facial hair That people can’t necessarily guess my age readily( I mean I’m not old), However I watched a PBS special about 18 years ago when I was in the throes of dealing with acne. some European female doctor was mentioning AGEs and selling her facial products but also a diet to prevent the glycation process. I say this to say that people always ask me why I chose sugar-free from the age of 15 and it was because I was dealing with skin problems and didn’t want to prematurely age already damaged skin
I was told back in the 70s that I would never have children by 3 different doctors. Non explained why. But I realize it was PCOS now. Told my husband before getting married. Like all brides I wanted to be lovely on our wedding day. So I went on the evil, Atkins diet. Kept on it after the marriage. At least until I was pregnant. Then switch back to the so called healthy eating guidelines. Many years later I went on the evil Atkins diet again. Was working great until I got pregnant again. Went back to the healthy diet guidelines again. Gained 80 pounds on 1600 low fat, high fibre calories a day. Knowing what I know now, I would have stuck with the evil Atkins diet. So much healthier. I have the eating guidelines for pregnant women used in the late 40s, early 50s in Canada. Nursing textbook. Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese. Liver at least once a week. Cheese at least 3 times a week. At least one egg every day. 4 glasses of milk 1 green and 1 yellow vegetable with butter 1 small green salad 2 fruit, one citrus. May be tomatoe 1 serving whole grain cereal for breakfast 1 slice whole grain bread for lunch with butter 1 small potatoe for supper If you put on too much poundage, remove the grains. They understand carbohydrates back in the 50s. Women did not gain 80 pounds while starving. My oldest inherited the PCOS from me. If I could go back in time, There would be a lot more eggs, meat, etc, in her diet and way less grains. But I was following the Death Canada food guidelines. Like the food pyramid, based on Adventist cult agenda and not real science.
Dr. Mark Hyman,here on the tube, has a podcast video on PCOS. The discussion stated it’s inflammatory due to a high carb/high sugar diet. He actually has a couple of videos on the topic.
Any metobolic stress can cause those genes to come out. Have you gotten your vitamin and minerals checked? It's tied to that too. And anything that damages your mitochondria like too much electron depletion from EMF and not grounding and looking at the sunlight for electron replenishment.
There's herbs and light therapy that can stimulate the hair follicles to grow wider and produce melanin again. But you have to block DHT and make sure you are getting all of your nutrition first.
Hi! I'm new here and I'm loving you informative videos! I in my early 70s, have had T2 Diabetes for 5 yrs now and No Meds! My A1C is 6.3. I do have some hair loss, however, I'm told it's a side effect of my BP med. My nails lately are ridged and brittle. Is this an Iron deficiency? Also muscles getting less. Any supplements I can take?

I am 58, but have noticed Im experiencing all of what you've mentioned, and thin skin! You talk about preventative, but is there hope with experiencing some reversal? I lost a lot of hair from Covid. Also, Im having my first HgbA1C ever, this week. Even though Im fluffy, I've never had high glucose levels in standard labs, so Docs never tested this. Also, I'm on Adderall, can this contribute to rapid aging too?
Lysyl oxidase is the key. It is copper activated. It regulates the cross linking of collagen and elastin... and it needs copper, copper, and more copper. But it needs copper to be delivered via its transport protein, ceruloplasmin (blue blood... connect the dots). Exactly what happened to me-ruptured Achilles with surgery on one leg, then upper tear on other leg 2 years later.. I lift heavy hike, etc, not obese, just strong dad bod kinda, mid 40s, but I eat too much sugar and carbs. I can't burn them the way I did playing football or track in the past. Absolutely believe I'm pre diabetic so making changes already. All my injuries are tendon the last few years so this all makes sense. Change now!

Do you have suggestions for a 56 yr old female vegan? I'm one year with no period now. So menopause, I feel in my joints and I can tell my skin is thinner. Weight is normal. I exercise daily either 50 min brisk walk or 30 minute yoga vinyasa flow. I eat mostly whole foods. Oatmeal nuts salad seeds brown rice avocados broccoli, bananas Not Beans, they bother my tiny if you know what I mean. So probably low in the protein oil eat impossible burger patty maybe 2 xs a week pasta I put sugar in my coffee otherwise no regular sugar stuff. I just had my blood checked but not necessarily for all this, I don't have results yet. Thank you. Been watching you through all covid stuff appreciate your videos.
Watch Dr. Pradip Jamnadas lectures. Measuring blood sugar doesn’t really tell you much; insulin is more important, but not generally measured by doctors.
Yes stop being a vegan! It's very unhealthy, your not getting the fats that you need. I was vegetarian for 12 years or so and developed many health issues that went away when I started adding healthy animal fats. Follow Dr Mindy and Dr Boz they specialize in women's health and hormones.
Try licorice root topically or orally. Apple cider vinegar on the scalp can be good too. Biotin, a B vitamin can be helpful. Also, a quality Omega 3 supplement is helpful too. Your vitamin D level plays a role in hair health too. ... if you haven't had your blood work done recently, might be helpful to see how your thyroid is functioning. I recommend seeing a naturopath or functional medicine doctor. The panel they run will actually tell you something worthwhile. A conventional panel is a joke, all the important markers are missing.

I've been keto/carnivore for 3 months. ALL my blood tests have come back norm. 3 months ago I was prediabetic. Best of all (to me), is that my emphysema has drastically improved. It would take me 45 minutes to walk to my nearest shop. I'd get there, sweating profusely and extremely out of breath. Now? I can MARCH there in 15 minutes and not be out of breath. OMG! The inflammation is banished 😁

long term, it's terrible for your cardiovascular system, plus killing all those sweet animals. My friend did it for years, boasted about his test results, and just had a heart attack. Fruit and veggies are good for you, meat not so much.

Hi Mike, I'm a 60 year old woman based in UK and I'd like to thank you for your content. We don't have access to any blood work or tests here so maintaining optimal health is even more important. I've been doing endurance training for some years now and I also do some strength work but very little nutritional advice is aimed at the older female athlete . Thanks in part to your content I have increased protein, cut down carbs without getting too carried away as I still need to fuel my workouts and cut out all highly processed foods including all sorts of 'sports' supplements. Without tests it's difficult to be sure of the effects of changes but my Garmin tells me I have the fitness level of a 21 year old!

I fell down the stairs holding my baby at age 30. Really damaged my right foot. Lots of broken bones. Baby was fine as I fell with my body wrapped around her.
By 42 that foot was really hurting. X-rays showed degenerative bone disease. Ever step was painful, and I averaged around 70 thousand steps a day at my job. I was told I would be in a wheelchair by 57. And to lose weight.
At that point I had been starving myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fibre calories a day for about 22 years. When pregnant I upped it to 1600. Gained 80 pounds. Felt guilty for gaining weight and guilty for not eating as much as I was suppose to.
When my husband had 3 strokes and we found out he was diabetic I put him on the diet they gave me at the hospital. Every 3 weeks both he and his blood work were worse. Went on for 8 months.
Read Good Calories, Bad Calories. Watched The Oiling of America. Changed both of our diets to the old British diet in the prologue. His next bloodwork improved. Several months later a stranger understood him.
I craved butter on the new diet and ate it non stop for the first several months. Still losing weight, so I went for it. I had years of starvation at that point. Then one day I was walking down the stairs and realized my foot did not hurt. That was 13 years ago. I am almost 65 and I can hop on that foot. I can also get dressed from a standing position. Rare at my age.
I think the low carb, combined with something my body recognized it needed in the butter healed my foot.

Sweet. One thing I know about butter is that, especially in the spring time, it has a lot of vitamin K2 in it. Vitamin K2 is essential for directing calcium into the bones. It would be so interesting to me if that was part of why you craved butter and why you got your improvements.
@@bitrudder3792 Been taking K2 with my D3, but the MK7 type since I rarely have fermented foods. Had no idea butter had K2 (assuming MK4 type). I have been using butter and olive oil and no margerine anymore and really watching the seed oils. With keto I already have less inflammation, and this makes me feel even better about my butter use.

I know personally if I cheat and eat some sweets or something I feel it in my joints the next day, big time, and it stays for as long as I eat that way. It's crazy. If I eat clean I almost have no pains at all.
Went to a Specialists 33 years ago and he suggested to be refined Sugar free due to High Blood Sugar Levels even though I was training a heap. He stated that I would be a Diabetic by the time I'm 50. I took his advice and am very happy
I think what's even more important is spiritual factors. If your soul is sick your body will follow, no matter how good your diet and exercise program are. If you work a job you hate and you don't follow your dreams/passions, this will literally suck the life out of you. Take a look at people who did what they really wanted to in life and how great they look, they are eternally youthful. Definitely stay away from processed foods loaded with sugar, keep your body strong, eat a wholefood diet, but also don't work a job that doesn't bring meaning into your life.
Ok I’m 70 in approximately 26 months and since being on my 5th year of keto/IF myPCP is shocked & still doesn’t understand what I’m doing. Got off ALL 17Rx 4 years now.

I was always a very active person . After my first son, my thyroid was off didn’t know at the time what was happening to me. Hospitalized for it,so bad . An that was the start of my journey with weight loss struggles. It’s to bad I didn’t have all this information years ago. I started the fasting I’m up to 20hr , eating foods with No BAR CODES ! Have had a 30 lb loss over a year , sticking with this new lifestyle. I can relate to much of what he described. Trouble with joints , ruptures , with knees . Great information! So many reasons to NOT have a high carb diet. I just restarted keto again last week and I'm totally on board for this! My hair and skin have been so dry. I'm hoping it helps reducing my carbs. Part of it is also my water in my city though as it's "hard" water and dries everything out.
Humans evolved on less than pure water sometimes highly alkaline water. The small amount of minerals in hard water won't hurt you. My local water is soft so I add aussie minerals to each glass I drink.

The answer: K2 deficiency. Look at what foods are the main source: grass-fed animal fats. If you are low fat, grain fed animal eating or even low meat your bone health will degrade due to k2 deficiency. Look up the book Calcium Paradox if you want the answers.

I just turned,69. Look like in the 40s. Can never order senior meals without showing ID, chasing away at senior swimming pool hour, people pulled my hair to see if I am wearing a wig. My rules are , 2 hours daily walk, everyday IF 16/8, cooking daily meals with a lean nutritious foods. My only issue, going to bed after 3 am daily. The longer staying up at night the funnier life is. I aged but life continues.......
So, Mike, any advice to correct my sleep pattern? My biggest struggle, not insomnia, I sleep quickly once in bed but the timing.

Get up at sunrise and look into the sun. Open your eyes wide to get full spectrum. This will help with your circadian rhythm, and get it back in line. Blue light glasses after dark help, too.

Please make more videos like this that kids can watch/ listen to and understand the importance of a healthy diet and why processed simple sugar is so bad for us and talk about ways to implement healthy habits. Lost all hair about 15 years past. Lost most energy 7 years past. Researched extensively and figured this was just genetic predestination. Low carb OMAD and fasting helps my energy improve. But since the hair loss I made a 'recipe' for greater collagen synthesis ie. when eating protein I eat it along side vit C and sulphur rich foods in same gut load. Hair transplantation in Turkey is pretty reasonable cheap. I have read a long time ago the Vitamin B 'PABA' can reduce hair loss, but it was also stated once it is lost you can not get it back with higher / sufficient PABA levels in your diet or supplementation.

After trying keto I got super interested in collagen, hydration, and circulation, and I'm super pumped stuff is surfacing about these things now! So this content is super appreciated!!! Right now I'm working on figuring out how to keep the body hydrated and lubricated, and carbs weird role in all of it. So much to learn!
I wasn't even particularly metabolically unwell. My drs certainly weren't paying attention to that issue. Yet getting metabolically well has helped my connective tissue disease (hEDS) and all the autoimmune, neuro, gastric, psychiatric, etc, issues it inevitably implies. Good luck getting well from POTS, especially (and its cousin Long-Haul Covid, I betcha), and/or MCAS, with either hyper or hypo blood sugar. There's no way to defeat chronic fatigue on sugar. But this information is encouraging and could indicate that my whole foods, low-carb, animal-based diet and healthy lifestyle may be aiding my unstable joints, too, and helping me avoid the progression of my underlying defective collagen. WOOT.
I also have hypermobile EDS. A meat based diet has also done wonders for me. I'm so happy we are both feeling so much better.

I am doing all I can to stay healthy. These were good tips. I am going to order Berberine. I heard on a podcast that walking is important and the guy suggested parking a few blocks from where you work. I now park 6 minutes from my job. I am forced to walk right after work. I am not sure if my blood sugar has gone down, but I hope all the little things I do make a difference. It seems my blood sugars remain high no matter what I do. I won't give up.
This video is eye opening for me. I’m one of those guys that has taken in a ton of information on blood sugar, keto, carnivore, testosterone, and all things optimizing health, yet still eats way too much garbage. I’ve got a ton of weight to lose and you know what I’ve been dealing with for that last month or two? Pain in my heal/achilles area. The only thing I can think of that possibly aggravated that area was when I was doing step ups in my routine for several months prior. And then I came upon this video. My metabolism has been a mess in the last 15 years, but my A1C is always 4.6, I only eat what I make from scratch, no oils, no processed meat.
But ever increasing Intolerance to Salicylates. Lots of mouth burning, gum, throat and nasal swelling. It was becoming life threatening with things as simple as mint and cherries. I recently realized the center of the swelling and burning was one tooth, with a metal core crown on it. I went to a biologic dentist who ran a lot of test. Turned out that crowned tooth had so much chronic infection it ate through the bone and was deep into the sinus.
Within 15 minutes of the tooth extraction the feeling of marbles in my nasal septum was gone. Two weeks after I'm able to eat fruits and veggies again!

Hi Mike! I love your channel and the great info you share. Thank you! I’d so love to get your input on my A1C. It went from 5.4 (was that way for years) to 5.6!! I’m a 53 year old female, BMI of 21, low BP, I’m physically active on a daily bases (hiking, yoga, push-ups), I focus on lots of vegetables and local, good quality meats. The only reason I could think of is maybe my cortisol levels have been too high (I’m finishing a masters in nursing program, very intense!) and also, I’ve been eating about 1/3 cup yogurt that we make at home from grass fed cows, with lots of fruit in it (I’ve cut that out now!) I’m just kind of blown away by this new number! It’s hard to believe that it could be so high with the way I eat! Imagine if I ate sweets every day like so many others!

Your A1C is still normal. You might like to look into eating more greens though based on your age, you may be perimenopausal or menopausal by now.

I looked 15 years younger on a raw vegan diet.

The moment I'm having too many carbs or refined carbs wrinkles appear.
Raw vegan was not sustainable. The best of both worlds for me is eating proteins + fats + veggies at all times. Only one meal with carbs + proteins + fruit after working out in the morning and I feel great for the rest of the day.
Raw vegan helps you clear all the waste and chemicals and parasites away so you can rebuild with complex proteins balanced later! Most people can't do this because they are filled up lymphaticalltly with waste and unprocessed chemicals and food. Water fasting activates stem cells and that's the real root cause regeneration. People abuse carnivore and vegan way too hard and don't do enough research and end up doing damage. And they also don't look at their genes and tailor their daily intake to that. Or pay attention to their microbiome. The problem is people trying to eat meat and dairy on an already acidic and backed up body, and then they go 180 and don't address the previous gland issues and vice versa for vegan people and grains and beans. Eliminating foods, suppressing glands, and losing rapid weight is not true healing. I am one of those who cannot digest grains and beans based on genetics. But also, couldn't eat meat yet, cause I needed to deeply detox first.

Great video. There are some additional things are helpful to know on this topic. My understanding is that the science shows that high blood sugar and also red meat shut off an enzyme system that creates the protein carnosine. You can supplement with carnosine as a way to block Advanced glycation end products, collagen cross-linking being one of the various types of advanced glycation end products. I'm skinny and struggle to keep weight on my body so I have to really keep on top of my carbs and I can't always be active after eating a meal with a fair amount of carbohydrates. And I have found I just feel better if I have a good amount of healthy carbs in my diet. However, my Fast Metabolism seems to need carbs more than the average person. I have found carnosine to be a great tool to use rhythmically as needed

Great video. Unfortunately for me I was a sugar junkie begore I was aware. I'm now in my late 50s and my skin is horribly wrinkled. I'd like to know if collagen damage can be repaired. And what those steps would be.
Very timely content for me - recovering from surgery on my third tendon rupture ( I am very active at my age). What's interesting to me is that since mid-Jan I've been nearly full carnivore, had the best lipid results of my life (May) and can see results in skin. However, my tendons feel like they are worse off (ruptured the right triceps tendon and left one is feeling similar/tearing). Will have to dig further into glycation causes, since at least for me A1c has always been in the good range, but my whole family is at some level type 2 diabetic.
Are you eating organ meats? Muscle meats are much higher in zinc than organ meats, which depletes you of copper. Copper is essential for collagen. My friend was supplementing zinc and it was making her joints worse. As soon as she stopped (and also started taking a trace minerals with 2mg copper) the trouble she was having resolved itself. I highly recommend the book The Mineral Fix, it's really opened my eyes to proper ratios, etc.

believe it or not, glycation occurs also when you are on low carb or keto, just significantly less and yes, other factors age you as well.

Carbs are important. As it's the primary fuel for energy and it's what bind water in our cells. Notice that if we have low carbs, it will lower our weight. Weight is not only fat. There are organs and muscles too that need energy & water.
Idk about fats, ima search later. But energy from proteins are converted in kidney. It will damage our kidney if we want to fuel our energy from proteins.
I exercise daily. I am a runner🏃♀. I exercise while fasting, which I generally fast 12-16 hrs. A day. But I eat my meal at night before bed. I don’t typically eat meat or heavy protein bc it weighs me down. I do eat a lot of almonds, lean fish a couple times a week, avocados daily and lots of grapes, watermelon, papaya, cantaloupe AT NIGHT after midnight before bed. I wonder if this is been affecting my blood sugar. I have been experiencing osteopenia & joint pain lately.

Wow, I was struck by what Mike said at 1:56. He said, "It weakens the tendons and makes them more calcified." At 52, I tore my Gastrocnemius muscle away from my Achilles tendon. I was playing racquetball like I had for the past 15 years and suddenly, I felt like I had been whacked in the calf muscle. My Sports Medicine doctors had no explanation as to why this happened. I was told by one doctor to "be less competitive and let those shots go instead of lunging for the ball." Well, suffice it to say, this did not sit well with me. I was 52, not 92!!! Anyway, after reading Dr. Carolyn Dean's book, The Magnesium Miracle, I came to believe that maybe my muscles and tendons were too calcified due to a lack of magnesium and an abundance of calcium. Adequate magnesium will keep too much calcium out of the tissues of the body. My A1C has always been tested at just below the Pre-Diabetes range, so I never worried too much about it. In addition to taking magnesium, I am going to do more to control those blood sugar spikes. Jessie Inchauspe's new book, The Glucose Revolution has a lot of great tips along those lines. I just need to use what I have learned here and from others to avoid the processed foods.

I am a personal trainer and I work in a physical therapist office we get physical therapy patients with blown Achilles that makes a lot of sense now and some of the patients have come from other personal trainers where they blew out their Achilles while trying to exercise now I understand why and trying to develop an exercise program for diabetics that preserve those Achilles
I really agree with this … the problem is that most people will have high insulin for 15 years or so before there blood sugars are picked up!…. This has to change … the damage is being done whilst the insulin is high…. When the blood sugars are super unstable you have already done so much damage …. Request fasting insulin bloods!…
HBA1c is good but only at picking up blood sugars over long term … won’t pick up hyper insulinanemia ..
Walking after meals, will help post meal blood sugar. 10- 15 minute walk, how long after a meal do you walk?

I am 33 now but often get mistaken for being somewhere in my early to mid 20s. Now it could be said that because I don’t have a lot of facial hair That people can’t necessarily guess my age readily( I mean I’m not old), However I watched a PBS special about 18 years ago when I was in the throes of dealing with acne. some European female doctor was mentioning AGEs and selling her facial products but also a diet to prevent the glycation process. I was told back in the 70s that I would never have children by 3 different doctors. Non explained why. But I realize it was PCOS now. Told my husband before getting married.
Like all brides I wanted to be lovely on our wedding day. So I went on the evil, Atkins diet. Kept on it after the marriage. At least until I was pregnant. Then switch back to the so called healthy eating guidelines.
Many years later I went on the evil Atkins diet again. Was working great until I got pregnant again. Went back to the healthy diet guidelines again. Gained 80 pounds on 1600 low fat, high fibre calories a day. Knowing what I know now, I would have stuck with the evil Atkins diet. So much healthier.
I have the eating guidelines for pregnant women used in the late 40s, early 50s in Canada. Nursing textbook.
Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese. Liver at least once a week. Cheese at least 3 times a week. At least one egg every day.
4 glasses of milk
1 green and 1 yellow vegetable with butter
1 small green salad
2 fruit, one citrus. May be tomatoe
1 serving whole grain cereal for breakfast
1 slice whole grain bread for lunch with butter
1 small potatoe for supper
If you put on too much poundage, remove the grains.
They understand carbohydrates back in the 50s. Women did not gain 80 pounds while starving.
My oldest inherited the PCOS from me. If I could go back in time, There would be a lot more eggs, meat, etc, in her diet and way less grains. But I was following the Death Canada food guidelines. Like the food pyramid, based on Adventist cult agenda and not real science.
Dr. Mark Hyman,here on the tube, has a podcast video on PCOS. The discussion stated it’s inflammatory due to a high carb/high sugar diet. He actually has a couple of videos on the topic.

Any metobolic stress can cause those genes to come out. Have you gotten your vitamin and minerals checked? It's tied to that too. And anything that damages your mitochondria like too much electron depletion from EMF and not grounding and looking at the sunlight for electron replenishment.
There's herbs and light therapy that can stimulate the hair follicles to grow wider and produce melanin again. But you have to block DHT and make sure you are getting all of your nutrition first.

I am 58, but have noticed Im experiencing all of what you've mentioned, and thin skin! You talk about preventative, but is there hope with experiencing some reversal? I lost a lot of hair from Covid. Also, Im having my first HgbA1C ever, this week. Even though Im fluffy, I've never had high glucose levels in standard labs, so Docs never tested this.

Lysyl oxidase is the key. It is copper activated. It regulates the cross linking of collagen and elastin... and it needs copper, copper, and more copper.
But it needs copper to be delivered via its transport protein, ceruloplasmin (blue blood... connect the dots). Magnesium, retinol and sunshine (to make retinoic acid) are required by the ATP7B enzyme that loads copper i to ceruloplasmin.

I have just learned when our diet is acidic, our alkaline minerals are burned up neutralizing those acids. Magnesium and copper are burned up in this process.
The alkaline diet focuses on incoming effects. They think organ meats from healthy animals are acidic. Going in, yes. But on the back end the copper they deliver keeps iron in check and tunes up to 400 quadrillion mitochondria. Both those are incredibly alkaline promoting processes.

Exactly what happened to me-ruptured Achilles with surgery on one leg, then upper tear on other leg 2 years later.. I lift heavy hike, etc, not obese, just strong dad bod kinda, mid 40s, but I eat too much sugar and carbs. I can't burn them the way I did playing football or track in the past. Absolutely believe I'm pre diabetic so making changes already. All my injuries are tendon the last few years so this all makes sense. Change now!

I exercise daily either 50 min brisk walk or 30 minute yoga vinyasa flow. I eat mostly whole foods. Oatmeal nuts salad seeds brown rice avocados broccoli, bananas Not Beans, they bother my tiny if you know what I mean. So probably low in the protein oil eat impossible burger patty maybe 2 xs a week pasta I put sugar in my coffee otherwise no regular sugar stuff. I just had my blood checked but not necessarily for all this, I don't have results yet. Thank you. Been watching you through all covid stuff appreciate your videos.
Watch Dr. Pradip Jamnadas lectures. Measuring blood sugar doesn’t really tell you much; insulin is more important, but not generally measured by doctors.
Yes stop being a vegan! It's very unhealthy, your not getting the fats that you need. I was vegetarian for 12 years or so and developed many health issues that went away when I started adding healthy animal fats. Follow Dr Mindy and Dr Boz they specialize in women's health and hormones.

Try licorice root topically or orally. Apple cider vinegar on the scalp can be good too. Biotin, a B vitamin can be helpful. Also, a quality Omega 3 supplement is helpful too. Your vitamin D level plays a role in hair health too. ... if you haven't had your blood work done recently, might be helpful to see how your thyroid is functioning. I recommend seeing a naturopath or functional medicine doctor. The panel they run will actually tell you something worthwhile. A conventional panel is a joke, all the important markers are missing.
Check your thyroid please. Also lifevantage (I'm a distributor) sells a very effective collagen activator. It doesn't just replenish collagen.
