The third and final game of the original Donkey Kong series. Instead of Donkey Kong going against Mario like the previous two games, Donkey Kong invades a greenhouse and it;s up to Stanley to chase him back to the top. If he reaches the bottom, he;ll fall and take a life. -

Game used to scare the shit out of me when DK was about to come down. It played that warning sound that creeped me out.

I remember when I was a little kid, I used to try so hard to be good at this game. I remember being able to reach level 52 or something once, I was really amazed at myself. I never could do that again...

In order to get better at this game I decided to stop using the power spray canister that you can get with each life. It forces me to take on all the enemies rather than blazing through levels in a few seconds. I found out that when you hit the caterpillars with sprays, they are affected differently depending upon how many times they are hit. When they are on horizontal levels, one spray stops them for about 2 seconds. Two sprays stop them for 5 seconds, and three sprays stop them for 15 seconds. If you hit one coming down a vine with one spray, it will turn around but will come right back down in a second or two. If you hit one with two sprays, it will go back to the edge of the screen but will immediately come back out. If you hit one with three sprays, it will turn around, go off the edge of the screen, and stay out for about ten seconds. So it is worth it to try to hit each one with three sprays.
Most of the challenge was understanding the game rather than playing it.

I geniunly had no idea this game existed. I played Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr, and I assumed those were the only DK games.
I kinda see why Stanley the Bugman didn't go on to the same level of fame as Mario.

Yeah, well Stanley The Bug man should appear in Super Mario Odyssey 2 as Stanley Bowser and Mario returns to Pauline, while Stanley gets with Peach.

This is my favourite DK Arcade title out of all three of them.

Good thing I’m not the only one who thinks that DK3 is the best game in the original DK trilogy of the 1980s since both of its predecessors!

So a Donkey Kong shooter. Love it, must play it! Too bad Donkey Kong didn't evolve further on the NES, maybe even becoming a rival to the Super Mario Bros. Sure, they did it in on the SNES, but I think they would have done well as an SMB clone in 8-bit.

You know, I wouldn't care as much about the quality of the games, if they just released more of them and more frequently. Making people wait an entire month only to give them the likes of Donkey Kong 3, Wrecking Crew and a "Special edition" of Mighty Bomb Jack is just beyond the pale, even for Nintendo. At least they threw in the rewind feature as an "added bonus." (Although it should have been there all along.)

I actually like this Donkey Kong game it’s more of a challenge snd I played it more than the other two Donkey Kong games. It’s silly Nintendo did not use Mario instead and just give it a quick backstory if needed. : “Mario protects Pauline’s green house from infestation and insects in the hands of Donkey Kong” I mean if it doesn’t make sense Kong being there and needing to be blasted with spray on his underside and throwing coconuts and unsettling the bees on you over plants, then I’m sure having Mario in the game was not going to upset players or make the story line consistency any worse. In fact bringing in Stanley makes it worse for them cause now you have to explain and delve into his origin and story line. Mario might have made this game more popular. If they worried that it wouldn’t make sense to have Mario have a spray gun and appear in this story, well Nintendo threw out all those concerns out the window when they used Mario as a mascot for many other upcoming games. And lastly, if Nintendo did not use Mario for DK3 because they wanted to give him his own series, it wouldn’t have mattered if he was used in DK3 because at this time Mario was being used as the Nintendo Mascot and players wouldn’t have cared seeing him in this and his own series wondering how is it possible? Kids like familiar faces/heroes/protagonists/mascots. I bet now is when Nintendo laughs about their thought choices and mentality backed then when they now believe Mario should have been in DK3 and it wouldn’t have hurt.

I reached R=99 with saving in emulator, the R resets to 0 and the game doesn't end the I-score resets to 0 after 999999 the TOP-score I'm working on it to check if it resets.

i don't think it's the difficulty but rather the very limiting ROM space from early NES titles

@Retro fan I guess you're right. I just looked it up and the Mario Bros Arcade game came out around the same time as Donkey Kong 3. So Mario was indeed not dead even in 1983

The only reason why Mario looks like he "died" in the NES ending is because the limitations of the NES/Famicom at the time prevent to show the full ending of the Arcade version. The Arcade version shows the full ending what's meant to be shown and the Arcade version shows Mario chasing DK and Jr, then DK punch Mario and Mario ran away. The NES ending isn't canon at all. So yeah, Mario is still alive.

I mean come on Dk & Mario shooting bubbles to one another really nintendo? You could not updated the nes or arcade visions? Yes im mad at this. Theres has to be DK3 game on the gb or something. I did not know about this game and it's stupid and boring. Original DK is worlds better.
This game is like 35 years old. Back in the day it was a nice game specially for arcades, and it wasn't too easy.
