Your spirit of adventure is amazing and I know you’ve touched so many folks with your channel! I can’t wait to see these trees for myself.
The opening in the trees are from fires. They are called goose pens. Animals do use them as dens, but not usually that close to the trails because of the humans going into them. I was at school in Miranda when the Dyerville Giant fell. We thought it was an earthquake. That was a very sad day in my childhood.
Rebekah Chappel ~ Thanks for sharing what it was like hearing one of nature's GREATS dying, falling to her death. I imagined it sounding & feelig similar to an earthquake. 😓

Thank you. When those branches started to fall the hairs on my back stood up. LOL But I had my bear bells on (and bear spray in my backpack) and made plenty of noise. At the beginning of the trail there were no people but the further I walked I head a lot of people in the distance so the bear would have eaten them first... 😊
Thank you for showcasing my beautiful "neck of the woods." I live on the southern end of Eureka and both the area you stayed at with the elk herd, northern Humboldt County, and Avenue of the Giants, southern Humboldt, are frequent juants for me and my family....camping, hiking, picnicking, or just a drive to get out of town for the day. Founders Grove is actually a part of Avenue of the Giants and is the most visited grove on the Avenue. We love to picnic there and also at Women's Federation Grove, a few miles further south, which has access to the Eel River. The large growths you pointed out at the base of the Redwood is a burl. It's basically scar tissue...formed as a result of an injury to the tree or from a fungal growth. I always enjoy your videos but the last two were very special to me. Blessings to you on your journey!

Hi Tiffany, Love your videos. You are so courageous! I'm not sure if someone has already answered your question about the "large bumps" on the base of the Redwoods. As a California native living in the midst of the redwoods my entire life. Let me see if I paid any attention to the many trips into the parks, and area's around the area. Here we go! They are called Burls. The burls form when a tree experiences stress, such as... Fire, drought, wind damage, or old age. The burls contain unsprouted bud tissue. The Burl acts as a "Storage container" that stores the genetic code of the parent tree, so as to ensure its preservation, If the tree get's damaged or falls, the burl can sprout, and become another redwood tree. This tree is called a clone! Anyone else chime in, if I forgot anything!
This is excellent information, Jelsia, and a fun fact about the tree. I say you were def paying attention. Thank you so much for sharing. I learned a lot. 🤗
You’re making me want to visit some national parks. It seems like a place where a person can slow down and exhale. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!

I could feel your fear here... but big tree will protect you if you respect the area and don't stay in any forest after dusk. Redwood trees contain natural preservatives allowing them to lay there for more than 100 years. My guess is some of those petrified ones lay there for centuries. Great video.
