This was awesome - Thank You! After watching some unboxings I wasn't sure it you had to take it all apart to close the unit - this was great and quickly showed me what I needed to know. 10 years ago and still helpful today!
At the risk of blowing myself up I did try the booth with enamel paint. Not only is the fan not rated for it, but apparently neither is the filter. It catches the paint but not the fumes.
My spray booth was an in-between one. It had foldable plastic walls and required a little bit of construction to setup or take down just like yours but much larger and was about £120 if I recall correctly. It also came with the hose attachment to pipe the fumes outside.
there's delta fans which are crazy scary computer case fans that can do a dangerous 4000rpm and pull about 200cfm at 13v, which is super easy to achieve if you buy a wall adaptor
FYI, I just looked this up, and the spray booth your are reviewing is the Paasche Hobby Paint Spray Booth. You got a great deal on yours from Amazon as TCP Global sells it for $154.64 plus shipping.
I have some lacquer paints and tamiya spray cans - will the filters clean out the smell? And as for the plastic cracking, does that apply only to the plastic side walls or the actual filter unit itself? Wouldn't want to use it then have the electronics inside suddenly melt on me.
The hose is not required. The filter alone will remove roughly 90% of the paint. If you're working in an unfurnished basement or workroom, you'll be fine.
I've got one of these too, it works great but be aware that the manual says not to spray flammables into this. Rather startling I know! I believe it's because the fan could produce a spark and ignite. I just keep my spraying to a minimum mainly with rattle cans or when airbrushing at high pressures. I paid around £90 for mine here in the UK on ebay.
i would still wear a mask and tape some dacronat the front of the filter. For protection of the longs and to keep the filter cleaner.all the finedust will stay in the dacron. So the device also "live"longer
It's 13", but it goes rapidly down as you go back. To effectively use it you need the item inside it and not just at the opening, so the item should be no higher than around 9" high.
Used an old bathroom vent fan, white board, and dryer vent hose for a grand total of 30 bucks. Light but not portable, uses an old furnace filter, and it works fine. Always prefer making something before plunking down cash, not as nice as your unit, but good light, and works well.
the booth is OK i have had it for about a year u will have to tape the seams(in the clear sections) so paint doesn't leak cause it will and the cool thing is you can connect 2 of the booths to make your spray area bigger if needed.
I have one, great for the price, but has trouble with large sprays with rattle cans and if you use automotive paints or primers this is not the booth for you unless you want to keep changing filters. Replacement filters can b tricky to find on ebay (as this has no make/model) but they are out there. A strip of led tape on the top gives great light if u r not packing this up all the time.
16.5"W x 13.5 H x 19" D. It depends on how clean you want to keep your work station. RUn the hose out a window to keep it perfectly clean, or stick a piece of cardboard behind it to keep it mostly clean.
I see you got it!! I am still in the process of deciding about these portable paint booths, the only thing that keeps me from getting them is the fact that they only move about 3 CFM!! it's ideal for acrylics, but not for enamels or lacquers, But who knows, I might just get it, have you tried it yet?
Merry Christmas also yes I could use one of those I just got an airbrush compressor and now have 3 airbrushes one I've had a neo for iwata gravity feed , a mystery type air brush I got with AS186 compressor , and a neo for iwata BCN siphon-feed airbrush all of them are dual action
okay. i understand a bit more seeing with most the kit you have to install with a bit of preassure. i have the lights with mine that you have to push in and clip on. But the filter part i will keep in mind what you've told me on installing it. Thank you doc for your helpful tips. i will stay tuned to your channels.
Thanks for the reply. I'm getting supplies ready to build an old AMT Refit "lights and sounds" but this may only work for individual parts. I agree that I wish there was a middle ground between "small and affordable" and "BMW car payment" in pricing.
I WENT TO AMAZON AND THEY HAVE IT FOR 85.00 BUT ALSO I READ THAT SOME LOOK THE SAME BUT ONE IS STRONGER, READ THE REVIEW. ALSO THEY PAINT WITH ENAMEL AND SPRAY-CAN TOO. IT SAID IT LIGHTED BUT IT MEAN THE SWITCH ON/OFF LIGHT UP..
I'll be using a respirator while working with it, although I'm mainly wondering if the fan will pull the air out through the hose well enough, since I plan to vent it out the window. And I guess my second worry would be it exploding...or so I hear, although I haven't heard any cases of it happening yet.
Cheapest i saw on ebay just now was $84. I also came across a portable spray booth tent for $40, 4'x4'x 80+"weighs 6lbs. For that fan in the back of the table top booth, have a look at computer case fans. One could jury rig a 200mm fan on there that pulls 90cfm instead othe 3cfm standard. I'll look into one of these as much as I like my home made booth.
Hello, Do you think with such an airbruch i could paint inside without having the paint flying all over the furnaments? My wife would kill me! Could i spray with it in the bathroom for example? Because last time ive used a normal spray can and the whol floor of the bathroom was full of paint
I have this one but it came with lighting in it. I have yet to use it as I have been away from the model cars for a few years. I am wondering if it will be of any use in the mini figurines hobby?
Now im new to airbrushing - I havnt started yet but ill be airbrush in a basement with windows that DONT open - would this help me in anyway to airbrush in my basement with or do I need to end up drilling a hole in the window and setting up the fixture? please help! lol thanks for the awesome video!
hello. ive been having a problem with glue fumes lately and wanted to know if this spray booth would suck out the ordor if i was to do some gluing in it with a hose atttached going out the window
For the portable air brush spray booth, it has been 5 years (ish). I am interested to hear how it has held up and how frequently you have been using it. Thanks!
Thanks! I ordered an airbrush booth today, and I just received a MIG Starship Filth Oilbrusher based on one you used recently in the red rocket videos. Thank you for your help is my continued effort to transform my paychecks to hobby supplies!
From the comments I believe I understand but just to make sure this is good for paints such as those from testors and model master but not recommend for example primer out of a spray can?
hi . I'm on the market for a booth .... I wanted to ask you after 7 years are you still using this sort of booth ? or are there better alternative ? also some of the paints i use are more volatile then others (Metallic ) , and I feel like i need a " " painting room " " rather then a just getting away with a booth ... if you have any suggestions ... hope you can help.
Great Video -- Is this airbrush booth safe to use Lacquer & Enamel Paints in a indoor environment with ventilation? Do you notice any lurking paint particles or fumes after using it indoors?
Do you know the actual height of the open area once the booth is fully opened? the company says 13" high but i think thats just the case dimensions. i do helmets and want to know if its big enough to catch the overspray
Ok sweet - ya im using water based paints like P3 stuff so I should be in even better shape I really appreciate it! thank you - just curious also whats your airbrush compressor set up - idk what you airbrush but I airbrush tabletop miniatures :D
i made a booth out of an old white kitchen cabinet with the door and fan and light works better than that dinky thing. it cost me nothing to build it eather i had all the things i needed fish tank light a computer fan and the cabinet best thing i ever built.
it doesnt recommend flammable paint, but enamel and laquer are usually the only type with solvent odours. kinda pointless if your just going to use this with acrylics with mininal odour.
Odor isn't the only thing a booth should stop. It will help diminish any sort of over-spray from coming back out of the box and into the open environment.
I went to Amazon and found the same one as you did. but look at what comment it got by a buyer.. .The purpose of an airbrush spray booth is to move fumes and particulates out of the room. This unit barely does this and needs a fan powered to move some air! Also note that this unit should only be used for water-based paints [acrylics] Don't try to use this for any solvent based paints. There is no indication if the fan is spark-proof or not.
Where did you end up buying that one from I've seen him on Walmart but they don't have the retractable extension cord trying to do research on the best for the buck Thanks
This is an excellent video, thanks for posting! I'm interested in picking this up but know pretty much nothing about airbrushing. Would this provide enough ventilation (if piped out through an open window) when using acrylics and an airbrush? Any extra tips would be much appreciated. Thanks again!
Are you still using this portable spray boot, or is it broken? I'm thinking of getting one but trying to find out if it does a decent job and if it will last.
How do you clean the filters? I got one of those both and now the filter need maintenance because it's very dirty. I have to wash it .... with what? How?
I like the spray booth demonstration but the only thing you did not do was turn the booth on so that we can hear how loud or quiet it is. So hopefully you will read this message and add to your video the sound of the spray booth when it is turned on to filter the paint fumes

At the risk of blowing myself up I did try the booth with enamel paint. Not only is the fan not rated for it, but apparently neither is the filter. It catches the paint but not the fumes.
This is the coolest little thing I've ever seen! Too bad I can't afford it now!
My spray booth was an in-between one. It had foldable plastic walls and required a little bit of construction to setup or take down just like yours but much larger and was about £120 if I recall correctly. It also came with the hose attachment to pipe the fumes outside.
I got this too, complete with the LED light kit. Powerful suction. Really easy to set up and stow away.
Do you pay extra for the built in LED lights kit😍🤔🤷♂️
there's delta fans which are crazy scary computer case fans that can do a dangerous 4000rpm and pull about 200cfm at 13v, which is super easy to achieve if you buy a wall adaptor
You could add a dust blower in-line to the hose to move a higher volume of air. Harbor Freight has a couple really cheap but powerful ones...

It would be pretty tight if you tried to fit a completely built Enterprise inside. Work area is about 16"x16".
Get on with it man!
Actually, I was just using it and noticed a cloud of Future cause I forgot to turn it on. Then hit the power and it was gone in 2 seconds.
the booth is OK i have had it for about a year u will have to tape the seams(in the clear sections) so paint doesn't leak cause it will and the cool thing is you can connect 2 of the booths to make your spray area bigger if needed.
Think its ok I use it on ALCLAD,as long as the fan is brushless there should be no spark just remember these are built in china.
I have one, great for the price, but has trouble with large sprays with rattle cans and if you use automotive paints or primers this is not the booth for you unless you want to keep changing filters.

It's not rated for lacquer. However I'd be more worried about explosion before cracking.
Still works fine.

You can get a cheap beginner airbrush and compressor setup on Ebay for under $100.
What do u used to clean the filter and were do u get more filter from

It really sucks! All I can say is I don't see paint dust around the outside of the booth as I normally would when not using a box.
thanks Tony, I wonder if I should just get one and change the motor out?
I WENT TO AMAZON AND THEY HAVE IT FOR 85.00 BUT ALSO I READ THAT SOME LOOK THE SAME BUT ONE IS STRONGER, READ THE REVIEW. ALSO THEY PAINT WITH ENAMEL AND SPRAY-CAN TOO. IT SAID IT LIGHTED BUT IT MEAN THE SWITCH ON/OFF LIGHT UP..

Thank you for your video. I noticed is there another version with LED?
I’ve just seen a video of the Iwata version with clip-in led lighting. :)
In the instructions it says to remove one filter layer if using the exhaust hose. What do you think?
Cheapest i saw on ebay just now was $84. I also came across a portable spray booth tent for $40, 4'x4'x 80+"weighs 6lbs.

would you have to change the filter after a while?
kamen25 In theory, but I just wash it out.
@@ThePaintingClinic What,s the best way of washing out those filters without damaging them? 🤔🤷♂️
Hello, Do you think with such an airbruch i could paint inside without having the paint flying all over the furnaments? My wife would kill me! Could i spray with it in the bathroom for example? Because last time ive used a normal spray can and the whol floor of the bathroom was full of paint
It will trap most of the overspray.
@@ThePaintingClinic thanks for the answer!
could you show us how does it feel to work with it? eager to watch!
I have this one but it came with lighting in it. I have yet to use it as I have been away from the model cars for a few years. I am wondering if it will be of any use in the mini figurines hobby?
Does this work for spray cans as well
It's not rated for flammable sprays.
I am making one that uses a kitchen hood that will be mounted on the wall and of course, will have the light.
Thanks for the correction. I knew one of the major airbrush makers rebranded it.
Cool! I have seen these advertised, but it's nice to see a review. Thanks!
Do u need window for this one
It won't do much for the smell.
Tried it last night and couldn't smell anything. It's not rated for flammable paints, likely due to a cheap motor.
Using the vent and running it outside would help. Also you might want a larger, more powerful booth. This one is not rated for enamels, anyways.
idunno. Likely needs the extra suction to get pressure down the hose. Do as instructions say.
Should have reviewed how it operated in the video.
Now im new to airbrushing - I havnt started yet but ill be airbrush in a basement with windows that DONT open - would this help me in anyway to airbrush in my basement with or do I need to end up drilling a hole in the window and setting up the fixture? please help! lol thanks for the awesome video!
It's more for paint particles rather than smell.
It is still not safe if you live in a small apartment with a pet though, right?
Acrylics always safe though.
Is the booth good for acrylics and enamels and maybe sucking out the fumes of the glues and cements??
Thanks
hello. ive been having a problem with glue fumes lately and wanted to know if this spray booth would suck out the ordor if i was to do some gluing in it with a hose atttached going out the window
All the parts are just dryer hose bits. Should be able to get what needed at Home Depot.
Thank you! I was trying to see if setting up indoors was possible.
Just got mine today. I don't mind starting out with a Mini Coop and then working my way up to a an Escalade. Learn to crawl before I walk ..... :-)
that's exactly what I was planning on getting, I wonder why these guys just don't put one of them in these booths?
Nice! I thought about getting one to replace my cardboard box as well. Is it big enough for say 1/537 trek kits?
can you use this indoors without connecting the tube thing to outside?
That's real nice, If I had room in my painting setup I'd for sure get one, thanks for the review.
Spray on a bunch of Purple Power and rinse with running water.
for me the fumes are part of the great benefits of gluing and painting..... Seriously.
Thanks.
Ha ha! Me too - the problem arises when you have pets or other people in the house I guess - they might not be so keen on the fumes :)

It's not rated for either on those. No flammable paints.
Will this spray booth accommodate a Tamiya paint stand or is the Tamiya stand too tall?

If you mainly do small airbrushing such as spraying a sealant on a figurine/toy would this work?
This video is 4:20 long. How cool is that. I’m subscribing just for that
Great Video -- Is this airbrush booth safe to use Lacquer & Enamel Paints in a indoor environment with ventilation? Do you notice any lurking paint particles or fumes after using it indoors?
It's not rated for those. It's mainly for paint particles, not fumes. Plus there's that whole "may explode" thing.
Thanks for replying, are there any portable spray booths you recommend for using enamels and lacquers?
Lance Kai
Can't recommend any since I haven't tried them, but there are plenty out there. Most of them are made of metal and run $300 and up, though.
I work with lacquer, is this bad for the spray booth? I've read some reviews that the plastic cracks due to the solvent.
then there is a solution for taking care of the smell in a small room? i mean. i have a big window and i put a fan there but. is kinda inefective.
Do you know the actual height of the open area once the booth is fully opened? the company says 13" high but i think thats just the case dimensions.

+Vincent Gregory It's best for acrylics.
Thanks Doc! Please keep the vids coming, they're a huge help to beginners like me. :)
how important is it to have the ventilation hose stick out the window?
Hey Doc. Quick question. What's the fan's cfm and dimensions ? Is it suitable for using with enamels ?
+Slammer It's not listed. 120mm maybe? It's not rated for flammable paints.
May I ask does the fan provide the volume of air required to remove the fumes while spraying?
Again, this is not rated for that. It will remove paint particles in the air, not fumes.
Are you still using this portable spray boot, or is it broken?
I'm thinking of getting one but trying to find out if it does a decent job and if it will last.
Sparmax Spray Booth with Exhaust Fan & Pipe Ref: DHL-SB-88 £120
thanks doc. ill figure it out.
+Ricky Bobby Shakenbake It doesn't come out or go in easily. You have to bend the frame a bit.
I've just got mine and it's great. If
do you remember what model and where you bought it?
That's the same model that I have and it's brilliant.
can you use this with regular spray paint
do you have any idea on how to remove and replace the filters?
