Awesome review and it instantly sold me. Had no idea these even existed in a portable version. Gonna make life out on the road (I’m a truck driver and build kits while out) so much easier. Hardest part is finding a decent environment to paint the bodies. This will definitely help.

This an excellent review, like usual. Demonstrating how loud the fan is was of great help to me. For someone with limited hobbyspace this seems a good buy. In fact, I ordered one just an hour ago and ordered a closet light with it. I plan to place it in the top of the window with some velcro tape.

Great demonstration of the spray booth I really like that and I like the fact that you turned it on so that we could hear how quiet or how loud the booth might be and it was truly quiet I truly wish I could find an air compressor that was just as quiet and small and compact air compressor that was just as quiet

Just came across this review for your spray booth. Thx so very much for explaining how it assembles, size dimensions, and cost. I've been looking for a reasonable spray booth set up, and it seems like this one may just fit the bill. I, like you, live in the midwest (Indiana) and work in a pretty confining area in my basement. I'd love to be able to continue building kits over the winter, and this seems to be just the right fit for my studio.

This booth is sold by many brands at similar prices, all the same thing. Mine is this exact one with the "enjoy the fresh air!" sticker with a lime on it for some reason. This is "THE" bog standard paint booth for painting indoors. I've had one for seven years and counting, still works great. You can also buy this model doubled-up with two side by side. I do recommend you stick to mostly Acrylic paints however. The booth is not powerful enough to expel a ton of Enamel based painting. I also recommend you wear an N-95 grade or above mask - Which in 2020, you should already own or know how to get!

I have a similar concern about if I'd do enough modeling. But this might help me do more modelling by letting me work in a climate controlled, well-lit room instead of being limited to my garage and porch, which can be dusty, poorly-lit, and subject to the changing weather.

  • @MrDragpics

Id seal it with cheap masking tape as there's gaps!.I also use newspaper the base as the plastic wont like some cleaners....an extra filter is worth trying.

Thanks very much for an excellent review that answers all my questions. I ordered mine from Amazon before seeing your video for £84.90 which includes the vent pipe flex hose and attachments as well as the lighting and I have watched some videos to see how robust it looks, easy to put together, how quiet the fan is etc and after your great video, I'm really looking forward to receiving mine in two days time.
I play Games Workshop games and as my garage is falling apart and its around 4 degrees at the moment (December in the UK), this is really going to be a great bit of kit as I've decided to get into using an airbrush which with a compressor etc, is arriving in the next day or two.
Regarding the noise of the fan, I have a brilliant Dyson which I swear by and the decibels of that is 67db which is not an issue what so ever and the compressor Ive bought is 47db, so if the fan on this 47db as well, then I'm well happy. Thanks again for showing a really clear guide as to how everything opens up, goes together and goes back again afterwards, really appreciate your time

How has yours held up with time? I bought what looks like the same basic thing (but with lights and hose, and they moved to an external power supply) about five years ago and... how to put this? Have you ever just had no choice but to get out a hammer and smash the living **** out of something just to put an end to it's miserable existence and reclaim your sanity? On mine, every plastic part degraded, weakened, and broke. The clips holding the side pieces broke. The clips holding the three light bars together broke such that they would constantly fall down. The retaining clip for the power supply jack broke when I plugged it in one time. The clips holding the filter in place broke. The clips holding the vent hose broke. This all must have happened from all the times I set it up and disassembled it, except.... I only did that 2-3 times over the years for cleaning. By the end it was a crumbling collection of fracturing parts held together with duct tape and dried paint.
Sorry for the rant, the followup to this morning's cleansing session of percussive therapy has been to post a warning to others to stay away from these things and just build one from a cardboard box, a couple of computer case fans, and filter material.

You can see this being used in every single video of a model I create. Hundreds of kits have been sprayed in this.
It's caked with an inch of paint now and still running. :)
Bummer that yours is of lower quality, this video is quite old though, I'm sure the design has changed.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Those are just gimmicky. I use aquarium filter floss, it catches overspray. Anything else is just a gimmick to sell expensive filter floss.

I need to get one of these. I might be tempted to get the version with the extractor duct. I'm also thinking I could use open cell foam like they used in old school window air conditioners. It's getting harder to find tho...ace hardware had it...no big box retailers had it here in fargo nd. It's open cell foam about a quarter inch thick. Bet it would would better just slightly dampened with water and just taped over the real filter. I think if the foam is just barely dzmp it would catch more debris and you could wash it it out in the sink after each paint shoot.

@@timburnette5914 LOL, it does work right out of the box.
If you want to vent fumes outside you need to add a hose, the way you do with anything other booth.
Did you expect a $50 Ebay chinese paint booth with a foam filter to filter out volatile organic compounds and fumes like a $5000 hood would? That's kind of funny.
I don't use a vent on mine, the booth is there to catch all the overspray and dust. I wear a respirator.

have you had any issues with the retractable power cord? On mine the pullback part busted and no longer retracts (I think that's why the new models have the AC power adapter now), which doesn't matter for me because mine is semi-permanent on my work table.

If you use the optional vent hose and put it out a window, yes, the fumes will be sucked out while it's running.

Take the bull by the horns, be the king of your castle and paint where you want. Your paint probably puts out no more fumes than a woman doing her nails or spraying her hair or cleaning the oven.
