I definitely recommend the technique! Next time, I'd do a strand test to see how quickly their hair developed FIRST and then use this technique again with the correct amount of time to avoid a do-over or a bleach bath.
In my bathroom salon, this process makes a lot more sense. After reading articles, and videos in a 2 year hyper fixation gold mine... this process makes far more practical sense hitting on the finer points of lightener chemistry. Thank you for this. I am a hairstylist and I use this technique too. I know because my hair is a level 4 and now I'm a level 10. Turned out beautifully, and I found using the foils for regrowth it turns out a lot more even. Been a hair dresser 10 years now and took me quite some time to figure all of this out. Good to know I'm doing it right 😍
Superbly so well and very happy that you have had some validation like the techniques that you are using are well thought off, I know so many hairdressing friends of mine who didn’t know about this technique for many many many years and when I posted this particular video it was like some sort of revelation. Absolutely fantastic Vanessa so pleased because this is one of those really tricky things when your clients come into the salon with super long beach regrowth when I discovered this technique I was completely thrilled with the fact that I could complete a long beach regrowth without all the Pfaff of two different peroxides and two different applications 👍🏻

But definitively will try this technique next time, instead of struggling to apply products on the roots after the foil…… thank you James….. great tips as usual 🙏🙏🙏

Never thought of toning the hair before applying colour... is this because it is a direct deposit colour that you were using? Does this technique help the direct deposit colour last longer? This is super helpful to me, thank you so much!!!
Face Up the main reason it to gives me a better base to work on, so I can get more vibrant end results and yes it can generally help extend the life of the colour. 👍🏻

I will test this technique on my youngest daughter who is starting to have a long regrowth, as well as lots of residue of direct dyes (first a faded purple, and then a dark blonde), si she will start with a clarifying treatment and Vita-C mask first. Very informative Thankyou! I’m bleaching my regrow the just like this from home in the next few days and I was trying to find a way to do my banding, cold regrow that and root regrow that! I have dark brown hair ( nowhere near black lol ) and unfortunately I could only get my hands on 20 volume. Will this be ok?
Hi! If my client has a 1.5 inch or 2 inch regrowth will this still work? And once applied do you ever go in and take foils back out or leave them until rinsing out. Love the idea of this technique!
Yes this is ideal for any scenario where the regrowth longer than 1cm ✌🏻😁 I will take them out of the back has processed lights enough and the front isn’t ready yet. But in my experience of this technique generally speaking that is it necessary
The Life Of Hair wow thank you so much for sharing your techniques! I used this method and it came out beautiful 😍 I’m so very grateful for all your amazing advice and teachings🤩
why do you have to go back to reapply and put the foils in instead of just placing them at first application? is it because this way you get all the hair covered faster and like to reapply anyway?
Great question yes the reason that I go back in and re-apply the foils is because I will always go and check my application and reapply as necessary so it just seems like a logical thing to do on the second application rather than relying on perfect situation the first time we all miss bits from time to time so I’m always doublechecking triple checking my work. 👍🏻
Hi, I’d like to ask how long do you leave the bleach to process after you’re done applying it to the whole head ? Like around 40min and then start rinsing out the first sections where you started ? Or do you need to check every few minutes ?
I tend to keep an eye on things when I’m using bleach checking it every 5 to 10 minutes if I can if I can’t keep checking it every 5 to 10 minutes then I’ll check it every 15 to 20 I never exceed the manufacturers recommended development time in the case of the products are use which is a maximum development time of 50 minutes attend to rinse the back off first and then the front.
best bleach regrowth video on youtube! my only concern is how do you check if the back is ready without those foils falling and sliding? since nothing really holds them in place. i saw a video where you did this without the foils. so do you recommend this technique or the other technique without the foils and why? which one you use more?
ThNk you ✌🏻this is my favourite technique as its easier in my book and in terms of checking the lift if you are careful there is no problems with them slipping and falling out as the surface tension holds the foil in place
Probably not I don’t tend to straighten peoples hair before I colour it no matter what the technique is really just work with the texture and you’ll be good to go
If you were going to cover that pinkish band would you have just gone in after you finished the root touch up technique or would you have tried to do it all at the same time with a lower volume developer?
What if my hair has other color on it and i want to bleach the outgrown hair? Would i have to strip the dye? Or is that even possible to bleach my roots?
So you apply your first coat of bleach to the hair then when you go back in and apply your foil you Simply refresh the bleach in the cold zone As you apply the foil
Graeme would say I only do that if I feel like the back has accelerated way beyond the front in my Experience of this technique I generally don’t have to do that I’m just trying to think of the time that I might have but I can’t so I think it’s pretty even inconsistent generally speaking ✌🏻😁
Hi James.Thank you for sharing the video.Question.I am a bit slow.If I use 20 volume ,do you think still the good result? Because on the video you use 30 vol.TIA.
Thank you! My daughters hair is soo thick that sending her to the hairdressers, for even a root touch up, needs a bank loan! I’m going to try this my self. Wish me luck!
Only try this if you have previously worked in hair bleach can cause blisters to the scalp you need to know what your working with and you also need to see the strength of the hair please be careful if your not a hairdresser sorry to post but be very careful
Well it all depends Nancy really on the job in hand a long regrowth like this would Between 101 £120 for the application and then it would depend on WhatsApp to Tony you were going to have over the top of it Tony is range from £35 up to £60 depending on what we’re going to do with that toner Does that clear it up for you any other questions do let me know

If you were going to cover that pinkish band would you have just gone in after you finished the root touch up technique or would you have tried to do it all at the same time with a lower volume developer?
Learnt something new today thanks
Needed this refresher ty
Hi just wandering what bleach do you use for scalp bleaching. X
Well it very much depends but quite a lot of the time I use blonde me or Joico blond life
Thank you very much ! That’s helped me a lot !
thanks, i plan on doing this in salon this week
we always use cotton but this seems "working smarter not harder"
what is your goto for a clean white toner "icey'
We use Loreal or Aveda
Great Jennifer I’d like to know how you get on
1001 and 1002 in L’Oreal equal parts
Hi what can I use with sensitive scalp if they want blond all over please let me know thank you 🙏
Yes absolutely you can use it for that purpose 👍🏻
What if my hair has other color on it and i want to bleach the outgrown hair? Would i have to strip the dye? Or is that even possible to bleach my roots?
Hi do you apply first beach then again bleach and foil between please answer
So you apply your first coat of bleach to the hair then when you go back in and apply your foil you Simply refresh the bleach in the cold zone As you apply the foil
I want those colours
Is 30 vol ok to use on the scalp? I always thought 20 vol was max to use on the scalp
do you recommend removing the foil from the back area half way through?
Graeme would say I only do that if I feel like the back has accelerated way beyond the front in my Experience of this technique I generally don’t have to do that I’m just trying to think of the time that I might have but I can’t so I think it’s pretty even inconsistent generally speaking ✌🏻😁
Question if someone has damaged hair how would we go about evening out a bad beach job?
Hi Jamie I responded to your question on your other comment
Well thank you! Needed this. ❤
How did you wipe off the bleach at the back when it was done please?
Nice violet color 👍❤🌹
Much I loved this colour result too actually ✌🏻😁
Beautiful color.....
Thank you Donna 😁👍🏻
Fantastic idea!!!!!👏🏻👍
Odelle Spencer thank you Odelle 👍🏻
Hi James.Thank you for sharing the video.Question.I am a bit slow.If I use 20 volume ,do you think still the good result? Because on the video you use 30 vol.TIA.
Yes if you work slowly then 20 volume will be perfect
Nice technique James! did you say you used 9% developer on the scalp?
Yes bro working fast lol i use 9% all the time. I am of the school of thought get it in get it off 😁👍🏻 hope you are well bro?
To attack the band would adding a 5 vol while adding the foils work?
Why 30vol and why not use 20vol?
Thanks
Ohmygosh! Yes! Thank u
Brilliant!
Hi what bleach did you use?
In this particular instance I used Redken Flash lift
Thank you! My daughters hair is soo thick that sending her to the hairdressers, for even a root touch up, needs a bank loan! I’m going to try this my self. Wish me luck!
Super Nikki Good luck 😁👍🏻
Only try this if you have previously worked in hair bleach can cause blisters to the scalp you need to know what your working with and you also need to see the strength of the hair please be careful if your not a hairdresser sorry to post but be very careful
is it easy to leave a line of demarcation?
No follow the steps of the technique there should be no line of demarcation
Beautiful!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Always wanted to know how much does a salon or yourself charge ?
Well it all depends Nancy really on the job in hand a long regrowth like this would Between 101 £120 for the application and then it would depend on WhatsApp to Tony you were going to have over the top of it Tony is range from £35 up to £60 depending on what we’re going to do with that toner Does that clear it up for you any other questions do let me know
