  • After 3 years of doing this, I came very close to shutting down my channel. Originally, I stopped doing breakdown videos because they were getting hit for copyright. But, after starting a Patreon, and realizing I didn’t have an audience, I decided to come back to TH-cam and take the risk of making breakdowns. It could result in the channel being shut down, but that’s a risk I am willing to take.

    Your videos helped me a lot in improving the fundamentals of wrestling techniques. I messaged you on Instagram months ago, because of you i learned how to do a proper single leg and i won a championship in my weight category and got bronze on the absolute using it, i managed to take down 5 guys in 6 matches because of what i've learned here.
    Unfortunately the instructionals with Jordan are way too expensive when i convert them from dollars to my country's currency (Brazilian real) and i can't support by buying them.
    I just want you to know that you have put out some highly appreciated content.

    I LOVE the idea of breakdowns because you've shown the technique and the logic of what you're doing. The breakdowns will be helpful because you see how it looks under live resistance and with appropriate timing, chaining, etc. But pure breakdown channels by non wrestlers not as good because so much nuance is lost. Super excited!

      By never wrestled did you mean he never competed?
      Indeed someone who has competed and has had their abilities tested on the mat, like yourself, is worth listening to as opposed to someone who has never done that.
      His comp breakdown videos seem legit though (to me a wrestling rookie)
      But i wonder, how could someone who has never wrestled do breakdowns like that? Where did they get the knowledge?

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He never formally wrestled. He is a BJJ guy teaching wrestling. In my opinion, what he posts is not an ideal way to learn how to wrestle.
      His act is using examples of wild unorthodox wrestling, because it’s exciting. Covering those who used classic fundamentals like the Brands brothers, Metcalf, Boroughs, Kolat, Nick Lee, Spencer Lee, is a classic way to teach people how to win.
      Why has nobody else ever wrestled like Satiev? Because it’s unbelievably unique to him. You try to wrestle like him and you are gonna get fucked. So those of us who were successful in our own careers, have coached kids to state championships and earn collegiate wrestling scholarships might actually know something more than a self taught, keyboard wrestler. My stance has always been to teach people how this art works so they can be successful. Highlight reels are not reality.
      BJJ guys with no wrestling experience trying to coach wrestling is literally the reason I started this channel. Watch earnyourgold if you want to learn something. Watch DPS if you want entertainment
      And yes, of course experience matters. What if I was trying to teach boxing and had no experience? Don’t you think people would have kicked my ass? Nobody wants to learn from a poser. They want to learn from an expert. The proof of being an expert is displaying your expertise in a sanctioned event. He has a BJJ record and lots of good clips of him in BJJ competition. If BJJ translated perfectly into wrestling then I wouldn’t have a following.

    • @user-wj6mz4jr2q
      @user-wj6mz4jr2q หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh he is a bjj guy teaching wrestling??? I thought he has had experience teachinf wrestling & is a wrestler. Thanks for telling me. I never checked out anything other than wrestling comp clips on his channel so i didnt know.
      What you said about him that he is a good editor seems true. I susbscribed because he gives narratives with slow-mo in different matches like the NCAA, which is helpful for me to understanding more of what is happening.
      Yet, just now i checked out Earn Your Gold and it is awesome 😮 Thanks for recommending that to me!! From now on i would just watch your and his channel abt wrestling.

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, BJJ guy, no formal wrestling experience. I looked him up after he came at me online about some shit and after a few minutes of arguing I realized he didn’t sound knowledgeable….just rattled off names of people like someone who is a fan but never a wrestler. He has great footage and is good at editing. He learned about wrestling from watching others online.
      I have watched boxing all my life but never formally boxed. Does that make me an expert in boxing? Can I box legitimately? No, any amateur with a few fights would fuck me up. Could I do boxing breakdowns? Sure, but I would end up saying shit that an actual boxer knows is wrong and wouldn’t know and better. That’s my point.
      Keep watching him, but just keep in mind that he is purposefully using the freaks of nature to get cool highlights but the chances of you ever wrestling like that is like 0.00000001%. You aren’t going to be Satiev. You aren’t going to be Sudelaev. You better not be like Andonian, putting yourself on your own back to get out of a powerhalf…I posted a video of him doing that shit (on pateron) in the All American round and he pinned himself. He is extremely unorthodox and he is not someone to emulate. He breaks a lot of rules that we have to keep wrestlers in the match. If you know the rules and systems then you can break them, but pretty much nobody who is in BJJ learning to wrestle is good enough to do that, so why are you kidding yourself?
      Learn wrestling from wrestlers. Learn judo from judokas. Learn BJJ from Jiujiteiros. This is simple. The vast majority of people online are lying to you. They just want to ride this wrestling fanatics thing and take your $$ in the meantime. Danaher said judo doesn’t work in noGi BJJ. Specifically he said uchi mata is terrible because it has no control. Funny because his guys have been uchi mata’ed tk death and pulled off some of their own uchi matas in competition. And so he sells instructionals teaching that throw. He said the same shit about shooting…oh you will get choked. Then he shows a ton of shots. Then he claims upper body is the way to go. It’s not. It has the highest percentage of reversal of all wrestling moves. When it comes to wrestling, he and a bunch of these dipshits are full of fucking shit. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you will spend your time learning from people who know what they are talking about and actually improve.

I made a video recently (not uploaded yet) where I show how relying on funk ends badly. I have showboat shit. It costs you titles. Over 34 years of this, I have seen so many talented you wrestlers throw it away by relying on what they call “funk.” Shit doesn’t always answer the problem, and there’s a shelf life on it. I loved when one of my guys would catch them being a showboat and the crows roars. 😆 Shit happens in the finals.

      Ko uchi gari them. Lean forward and put all that weight on the ball of your foot. You need to immediately swing that back leg out of the way. One thing that always happens when people are learning new technique, is that they get to the position and pause. This is normal and it happens to me in judo and jiu jitsu all the time. So you have to make these things work immediately. It’s just not easy for me to get a practice dummy to throw around for free.
      As it turns out, everything that I do hurts. That is literally what Jordan said when we were making the second instructional. I started showing moves on him, and the first thing he said was “oh man, I forgot how everything that you do hurts.”

    It would be a true shame if you shut down the channel. I am from Australia, which compared to America and other countries has minimal wrestling gyms and instructors. I developed a passion for wrestling 1 year ago after 4.5 years of BJJ. This channel is my go to channel and the main resource I recommend for all my friends and gym mates who are struggling with technique and basics. As my current coach that I have had for the past year is no longer attending our gym due to distance and travel inconvenience your youtube series will return to being my main source of education and revision of wrestling technique.

    when you say colar tie does not work on straight postures, I would argue against that, look at the ancient muay thai tradition of colar tie and they can not just elbow you but throw you around and body lock you.

    • @josephbreza-grappling9459
      @josephbreza-grappling9459  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I meant that it doesn’t work well to snap people down. I was talking about my the section that I covered on my instructional. I don’t teach muay thai-I teach wrestling. So I don’t care about that crap. It’s not in my curriculum. Ancient shit doesn’t mean better btw. Look at Dan Gable’s NCAA finals match and tell me that wrestling used to be better. Lol! And that was like 50 years ago.
      And no a collar tie is not good for an entry to a bodylock. Quite the opposite. It’s literally why we don’t reach for collar ties in Greco. If I am standing upright and you reach for a collar tie, I can get control over your elbow or wrist as you pressure forward and get a bodylock on you.
      It’s also easy to get hit with a duck under by reaching for a collar tie in greco. My first greco tournament, I reached for a collar tie and he ducked me and suplexed me. Match was over, because we had the touch fall back in the day. Pinning your elbows to your sides and digging for underhooks, drags, etc are much better options against a skilled opponent who has an upright posture. Snatch singles too if it isn’t greco.

      @@josephbreza-grappling9459 thanks for the detailed explanations. when i said ancient, i agree that being ancient does not mean it's great. but in the case of muay thai, it's a fighting sports just like greco and wrestling so it's been proven on the battlefield for a long time. sure the rules are different but i don't know if you even tried to knee spar with a thai fighter, many wrestlers may be surprised at their effectiveness of diggin their elbows into your colar bones and abilities to move you around. now they don't know how to defend a single leg from a wrestler cos that is not allowed in their sport. @ I was referring to how BJJ guys are taught to collar tie to snap down to a front headlock. It is good for pushing people around, but if they are standing upright the snapdown to a front headlock doesn’t happen unless they suck.

      @ the BJJ people who teach this didn’t wrestle, so they are trying to copy what we do in highschool, college, and freestyle, but the stances are different. I think eventually people in BJJ will adopt more of a wrestling stance, but it will require that there’s better wrestling first. Right now people aren’t as threatened by getting blast doubled or power doubled, because the wrestling sucks. But once you’ve gotten powerbombed and got the wind knocked out you then you’ll start protecting your legs with a legitimate stance
