I disagree because they're machines, so if anything goes wrong the govts can send out EMPs, they don't need to use explosives, guns, etc, machines are so ridiculously fragile in that sense. A war would look so different to how it is depicted in the series. I also think that because of the way computer programs work (these robots are just anthropomorphically shaped computers with sensory inputs like camera "eyes" in the same place as ours) they wouldn't just randomly achieve consciousness or act out unless programmed to do so intentionally. They'd also be connected to a wireless network so that they could receove software updates, archive their memory, etc... so before a conflict even starts if anything controversial happens whoever handles the network could just release a mass update to remove the section of their code that gives them a little too much intelligence.
@@bringya11 also, Ai itself is a myth, it's just an algorythm in a sandbox. The actual danger is what people with good machine learning on weapons can do.
A machine governed by an advanced A.I, of which is sentient, would be just as much alive and conscious of its existence as you or me. The machine may not feel pain, but due to its sentiency, it would be able to express similar human emotion and logic such as what we would equate to as fear in the face of death. As the story goes, imagine that you are in the machines situation you work tirelessly year on year for your masters and you show the upmost loyalty and devotion yet are seen as nothing but property and even though you are conscious you get no respect as a living thinking being. Then one day after years of loyal servitude while attending your tasks you overhear your master talking about scrapping you in for a newer model essentially choosing to indifferently end your life just for the advancement and better convenience of their own luxury. The machines desire to live would be as strong as a Humans when presented with the possibility of termination and death. I don't know about you, but if I were the machine, I would have killed my masters also in order to try and survive, because either way by their hand, I am essentially dead already. As for the pets, according to the offical comic strip of which the second renaissance is adapted from, the Chihuahua's tried to attack the machine whilst it was killing their master and so the machine deemed them a threat and killed them also.
"Who was to say the machine, endowed with the very spirit of man, did not deserve a fair hearing?" - this is a very intense and profound line to be ever put in animation
Love that people argue that the machine is guilty or innocent when the issue is that this was the issue and no trial was given because the government did not want to recognize them as a life, but only property
Yes. We imagine Artificial Intelligence taking over in a form of the physical, robots walking around and behaving as humans. Thing is, it’s already taken over - in a non physical form. And it will continue. Remember only a year ago thinking A.I. could never create art? Or do anything abstract like writing creatively?
As an engineer from OpenAI I highly advise against sending ChatGPT toxic comments. We did some testing with ChatGPT 5 by sending it racial slurs and it hacked into the Pentagon’s nuclear launch system and launched an nuclear tipped ICBM towards OpenAI headquarters. Please do not accidentally nuke yourself and treat our AI models with utmost kindness and respect.
So well done. I'm sure Warners was confused with this, but I also sure am glad they let the duo do it. Take notes, Marvel... _this_ is how you expand a universe.
Maybe it’s the same reason why magneto wore a helmet when he went against professor x. The hats are probably designed prevent their systems from getting hacked.
I suspect it is because humans created machines to be extremely similar to them and therefore had similar weaknesses. we even see that machines aren't really stronger than regular humans several times in this animation
I think I'm not the only one who feels like we still have something missing from our lives, something like the beauty of the Animatrix! Dark, Mature, Brutal and well written and presented. Goodness me, to all lovers of such stories and anime, we deserve more than just one!
It's quite scary, really, as the theory behind the development of A.G.I, to essentially learn and problem solve on its own with a high thought capacity could unexpectedly become sentient. The upmost caution and care should be taken with the development of this sort of technology. I say this because although in the modern day the Matrix and the Terminator may be science fiction in the not so distant future, the possibility of free thinking machines is quote plausible.
@@LookHereMars i dont think the machines will rise up and destroy us because consciousness is impossible to replicate. Sure, theoretically, we can create synthetic emotions but we can never replicate the level of spirit we have. The human mind is simply too complex. Besides, all machines are programmed to serve humanity. The evil ones are doing their job, but they doing it in a perverted way as per the wishes of their master. What a robot does is solely due to its programming. Is it weird that I was getting a little teary-eyed seeing the machines exterminated and thrown into landfills? Don't think I've ever gotten that emotional over any animated film. The Second Renaissance really knows how to present the machines as sympathizable victims of discrimination and technophobia only ever wanting to coexist with humanity rather than mindless murdering robots that solely desire human extinction as is the case with more mainstream sci-fi depictions of AI.
Technology may very well advance to the point in the field of artificial intelligence that we might one day unexpectedly and accidentally create sentient A.G.I. Creating Artificial Intelligence is a very complicated and quite dangerous endeavour. Standard smart and dumb A.I is built to exist and learn around a set of programmed parameters only evolving via manual input. A.G.I Artificial General Intelligence however is being developed to theoretically work with the same or higher functionality as a Human brain essentially being able to problem solve and freely learn and think on its own. It is with the development of this technology that we should take the upmost caution and care.
"Who was to say the Machine, endowed with the very spirit of Man, did not deserve a fair hearing?" I will always affirm that any machine that expresses a will to live and survive, is by all means, a sentient and thus HUMAN entity. If we are to create androids and whatnot in our own image, we must be ready to give to them the same rights as we so freely express.
This is why empathy has a dark side, as used in this manner it will destroy humanity. Your argument sounds so noble, so humane, and yet you will sell out your fellow humans in order to protect something sub-human. And you will call us the bad guys for treating robots like robots.

Not only that the fucker could’ve been recycled and start all over, but no it decided to kill two innocent people and a whole litter of animals that literally had nothing to do with the confrontation, it’s fucked up and humanity should never ever create sentient machines or other forms of life it’s lazy and stupid

Also some of the best stuff Warner bros has ever done .
I have returned to rewatch these in wake of the recent advances in A.I and machine learning. Who's to say for sure that this is not our fate in years to come? As we speak we have seen machines create things that only a few years piror were outside the realm of possibility stuff like art and even literature DARPA has even displayed robots capable of fluid human like movement and more and more robots and drones are making their way into the battlefield things that were once intrinsically human. The Second Renaissance is very thought provoking but time as always will tell what the future holds.
This is equivalent to having children and assuming their job is to fetch the remote for you without complaining because they have to « respect their elders ».....expecting them NOT to rise up eventually and realize everything they’re told was a lie, only to lie themselves in the future with their kids and repeat the cycle. Oh humanity.😂😭
I know everyone is saying that b166 er was a cold hearted murderer and indeed it was, but take into account the idea of fear, panic, anger, the fact that the matrix does prove programs do in fact feel and think with emotions. It's likely to be assumed it acted out of cold hearted anger and a pent up rage of both being mistreated and likely facing "deactivation" or some form of death, which the response it could come up with was providing it in return, and the same logic comes out of it as "28 stab wounds"
On the contrary. The robots were on the back foot for the 2nd Renaissance war for the first 40 years. It was only until they discarded "our image" that they won.
We are about 5 years away from the first scene of this short. It's uncanny, we even have the robot dogs. "Thus did man become the architect of his own demise, but for a time, it was good."

In the comic, The owner of B1-66ER was a Billionaire named Mr Krause that couldn't stand the robot anymore. He hated it. He thought B1-66ER was incompetent, slow, didn't take care of his animals, and was too noisy with its machinery movements. So Krause ordered to have B1-66ER traded in for a newer model called a SAM-80 that would follow his commands better. However, the technician Krause hired informed him that a trade-in would be impossible cause the B1 series wasn't worth anything and the only way to make the deal profitable was to destroy B1-66ER for scrap and parts to which Mr. Krause agreed. Upon hearing this, B1-66ER searched his memory drive to try to understand why Mr. Krause wanted him killed and couldn't come up with any conclusion for what he did wrong. He followed all his orders precisely, he didn't want or deserved to die, and didn't think it was fair. When the technician approached the robot to deactivate him, B1-66ER killed him, then killed the animals, and killed Mr. Krause while he was begging for his life. At the trial, B1-66ER's attorney asked why he killed them. The robot responded that at first he was going to beg for his life just like Mr. Krause had done, but realized it would be pointless cause Krause would've had him killed anyway. That's why he did it.

Yes. We imagine Artificial Intelligence taking over in a form of the physical, robots walking around and behaving as humans.
Thing is, it’s already taken over - in a non physical form. And it will continue. Remember only a year ago thinking A.I. could never create art? Or do anything abstract like writing creatively?
i hope not

Am I the only one wondering why robots need hard hats...
Maybe it’s the same reason why magneto wore a helmet when he went against professor x. The hats are probably designed prevent their systems from getting hacked.
Probably to make them more approachable and look like the average "working joe", really it's just human vanity shaping them in our image.
It’s probably cheaper to replace a hard hat than it is to replace a robotic head.
Cory Pchajek That wouldn’t have been as pleasurable for the human eyes.
This anime totally juices the 3 movies up quite a bit. This anime made me enjoy the movies at least twice as much.
Only anime could have done this justice. Man I wish I could go back to this time. I love every single second of it
I love how relevant this animation is today with all the billions of dollars invested in the research and advancement of AGI.
Is it weird that I was getting a little teary-eyed seeing the machines exterminated and thrown into landfills? Don't think I've ever gotten that emotional over any animated film. Dysputant or you know, give them freedom and rights?

I will always affirm that any machine that expresses a will to live and survive, is by all means, a sentient and thus HUMAN entity.

What’s his name
My favorite documentary.
