    I took delivery of my 2023 model 3 RWD at the end of November, and needless to say I find it rather ironic that we're driving one of the most technologically advanced cars in the world, and yet there's no parking assist functions of any kind. Why Tesla would remove the ultrasonic sensors when Tesla vision isn't ready to take over is beyond me.

      They did it to save money.

    • @damonekstrom4363
      @damonekstrom4363 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@kevinmiller5467 It's a savings of only $144 per car. I would have gladly paid that (and then some) to be given that feature back. Besides, if they really needed to save money they wouldn't have cut the cost of their vehicles by thousands of dollars.
      As expensive as these vehicles and FSD is, the USS was one of the cheapest and most reliable pieces of equipment on the cars. Removing it just reeks of pure greed.

    • @Dynamacrtm
      @Dynamacrtm ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@damonekstrom4363 they cut price to match demand and access more of market and precisely they need to reduce cost. 1.8m cars for 2023 @ 144 is $260m or savings or 2% more profit. Tesla made the decision to rely on vision therefore didn't see the point to keep installing USS. Short term yes it sucks to have no parking assist but you can be sure it will come.

    • @damonekstrom4363
      @damonekstrom4363 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Dynamacrtm but that's precisely the $20,000 question isn't it? When will it happen? Tesla started removing the USS back in October, and here we are at the end of January, and Tesla vision is still not ready. The fact that this also makes three of the five features in enhanced autopilot completely useless is also ridiculous. Charging $6,000 for a package of software that doesn't work as intended doesn't make any sense.

    Interesting that it still has the radar connector. The upcoming V4 Autopilot system has a new radar with much higher range and resolution, but Tesla outright stated that retrofitting V3 cars would not be feasible. Obviously, that raises the question of what happens if they can't bring full self-driving to people who bought V3 cars and paid for it. One possible solution would be to develop a hardware upgrade which could be easily installed - which may include a radar.

      It is crazy how much my 2019 model 3 has changed since I got it. It now has 15 miles more range, 50hp more power, completely new UI with more customizability (yes they did listen to feedback from the ui change and I like it now), summon, FSD beta, new car climate settings, more app features like eta of current nav is shown on phone app, (even the break lights displayed on the phone app match the current car tail lights in real time lol), light show, new energy/range consumption page, new airbag and seatbelt pretentioner settings in case of crash, greatly improved highway autopilot (yes tesla vision highway autopilot is better than the radar autopilot the car came with somehow idk but it is magic), better safety systems for collision avoidance, new battery preheating algorithm that noticeably affects charging speed, and i'm sure many more things I didn't list. Just practice parking, you'll be fine! 🙂 My Tesla does not have park assist, but I know how to park and judge distances so it's not a big issue. Now, if I lived in a really tight, crowded European city and had to squeeze into tiny parking spaces every day, that feature would probably be important to me. But I see lots of people complaining they can't even pull into a normal parking space without sensors. This is honestly just a learn to drive issue. We become so dependent on technology to do everything for us that we lose our basic driving skills that even young kids with a new license have. Having said that, I agree Tesla should have had the solution in place before removing the old hardware.

However if you read Tesla’s update bulletin you will see that 2023 model 3 and Y without ultrasonic sensors have had park assist, summon and lane assist deactivated until Tesla can update software to allow these features to be reactivated without the aid of ultrasonic sensors. On my 2023 when I try to go to autopilot a message appears that autopilot is not available. What’s more there are no lines on the screen if you get too close to another car or the freeway guardrail. As of today the rumor is Tesla May reinstall USS on the refreshed model 3. I hope I’m not stuck with a car that will never have some variant of park assist.
