      @@anthony49812 This is a flawed move. They didn't remove them for innovation, but cost cutting. The AP camera is unreliable as is in strong sun or really heavy snow, so how do you expect a company that has yet to remove those glitches to suddenly upgrade the parking situation? There is a reason they are going back to sensors.
      I purchased a 2021 Model for that exact reason, and just this morning those sensors came in handy, giving my 50 cm to the car behind me and 50 cm to the car in front during paralell parking.

      Tesla Vision, has a lot of room for improvement. Tesla like to think of themselves as a software company, so with Tesla Vision they can update the capabilities of the software over the air. May not me the same case for USS.

    I've seen a few videos on this subject by now. I know Tesla likes to push the boundaries of what is acceptable but it still baffles me how this ever got past quality control. It's just completely not working on the front. I'd expect a lot of damaged front bumpers, curious what their liability will be.

    • @kle1231
      @kle1231 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I think the problem is Elon wanted the USS removed to save money and the engineers were forced to make do with the technology they have. Unfortunately not having a camera on the bumper makes it hard to see down there.

    • @izzetkstr
      @izzetkstr ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@kle1231 i agree, but it doesn't make it hard, it makes it inpossible, a person that doesn't have eyes won't be able to see, the same logic aplies here, the car won't see obstacles because it can't, they should have kept sensors in the front or added an extra camera, they won't be able to fix this with software, as it's seems technically impossible to me.
      Saying this I'm still planning to get a model y, i would just end up reversing everywhere as the backup camera is still really good.

    • @Unkn0wnC0mmand
      @Unkn0wnC0mmand ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Izzet Karahancer so you're telling me, as a human driver, if you're stopped at a stop sign and a cat walks in front of your car where you can no longer see it, you will suddenly not know its there because it's not in your line of sight?
      If your answer to the above is yes, you shouldn't be driving.
      If your answer to the above is "no" then you understand your memory infers where something is even when you can't see it.
      The occupancy network aims to do what humans do with their memory. I think Tesla Vision parking assist will get a LOT better than it is currently; however, I don't think it'll ever be as good as the USS version- even if Tesla added a nose camera. I suspect we may see a HD radar return to Tesla vehicles (musk didn't rule it out- read his tweets saying he'd use one if it was high definition enough) and this HD radar could be used to see things super close to the car with extreme accuracy.

    • @kle1231
      @kle1231 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Unkn0wnC0mmand Yes, I will know the cat is there and I will know not to move forward. I will, however, not know how far the cat if from my bumper if I can't see it. Once the cat goes under the blind spot, I can no longer tell how far it is from the car. I just know there's a cat there. I will not know if it's 10 inches away or 2 inches away from the car. Maybe it ran away to the side. I will just know that it's there. The classic Schrödinger's cat.
      Back to this parking application, the point of these parking assist system is to make our lives easier with parking. The system should assist us and help us get as close as possible to our intended parking space without hitting something. Can I park without it? Sure. Just like how I can get from point A to B by just walking instead of driving. If the parking assist just as good as our memory, then that defeats the purpose of the system. Remember, the point of these system is to help us, the drivers, see spots that we normally wouldn't be able to see. The argument of "it works like our memory" isn't as sound as you think.
      I also wouldn't based release things off of Musk's tweets. They are merely aspirational goals -- he went to court over this and claimed that no reasonable person should take what he says seriously. Only take a look at what was actually released and how it works, not the product that is promised to be delivered.
      I do hope that one day this will get fixed and that vision can achieve parity with USS parking sensors. I just wouldn't hold my breath because it's also been about year since vision based window wipers and it still very flaky during the rain. So flaky, that Tesla just went ahead and release the feature that allow us to change our wiper speed from the steering wheel instead of the touchscreen.

    • @YannR34
      @YannR34 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the system has its limits, they just have to low down the quality requirement to mach what it can do... Hey! no miracle.
      It's still way better than no system at all. You just have to know that you can't rely on it, that's all. You have already done that with the automatic light, and the automatic wiper and more likely some other stuffs.
      Anyway, when you pay a paint that you can find anywhere else for the third of the price, you can have an assistant who gets out of the car to guide you. And if you buy the autopilot option not even ready for a decade and at a price even more indecent, you even can have a driver who deals with all the lacking tech for you, and it's fully operational already. 👍

    This is a must-see video! (maybe even for Tesla) I generally think it's good that Tesla is testing and exceeding the limits of technology, but with the parking sensors in the current camera configuration, it probably went too far. For a car in this price range, it is unacceptable that there is no good parking assistance, especially in the front. With the USS in my Model 3 I never hit an obstical so far. Comparing with the camera measurements tool in a iphone for example that can do quite consistent measurements. Ok, Vision sees something. Once it doesn't see it anymore, it forgets about it. That's the mistake. Vision needs to remember the last position and coordinates of the object, so that with the movement of the car taken into account, it can predict that there is still the object, even if the camera doesn't show it anymore. It needs a memory and temporal predictions. That way it can warn correctly even if the object leaves the camera view.

    Good video. I see a lot of comments about this topic. However, there’s a saying “If you throw enough dirt, something will stick.” Not too long ago, we drove cars without any cameras whatsoever. And now that we do, it’s a make or break and we need the best technology. Then again, if you’re paying over $50K+ for a car, it should come with top notch features.

    Updated comment - Well I now have my 2023 model Y LR vehicle received Aug 2023. It also has HW4 and the newer cameras. For my situations in using Tesla Vision (no sensors), it works fine for me.
    I do know the limitations of Tesla Visions with the front camera trying to see over the front hood.
    Some people may not like this change, I find it to be no problem, but I am not that fussy either. Pulling into my home garage it works quite well. Anyway, I shall see if there are any problems the more driving I do with the Model Y.

For me, range, efficiency, charging practicality, acceleration and chassis capability are more important.

    From what I’ve seen with this fine video and others, Tesla Vision is not adequate atm (and may never be?) for parking vs USS, self parking, and summon. However, Out of Spec Reviews tested a Vision only Model 3 Performance (I think it had USS but not front radar?) and it received the highest Autopilot score over a challenging route, beating the 2019 radar equipped M3P.

    I have a 2023 model 3 and absolutely love it except for 2 annoying flaws. 1. The automatic wipers need to be fixed and fine tuned, hopefully it’s an update issue and not a sensor/camera one. 2. The vision system is an absolute joke! Hate it! My brother has the previous model with USS and it’s so spot on and much better in every way than vision. Again hopefully over time it’ll improve but so far those are the only two real issues that have been constantly bothering me with my model 3

      That and glitchy auto wipers are the 2 biggest things i noticed not working when coming from my previous VW mk7 Golf.

    There are so many merits to owning an older gen Tesla. My 2020 Model 3 Performance has the USS, I can change to drift mode by putting most of the power to the rear wheels, and I also have lifetime free premium connectivity, which is otherwise around $7 per month here in Korea. Also, because the older gens do not have the heat pump, I get better mileage during the warmer seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn). I do get slightly worse mileage during the wintertime, but it's only 1 or 2 months where I would see a positive return from having a heat pump.

    My M3 is extremely accurate (within 5 cm of accuracy) but that's when parking backwards and with side obstacles. I never park it forwards for a number of reasons primary of which is that the camera placement in the front makes it impossible for the distance measuring system to be fully accurate (i.e. The front camera can't see the ground almost a meter in front of the car so Tesla Vision can't possibly be accurate in that direction). I miss the mock "360 degree camera" from my old car. It made accurate parking a breeze.

    I was about to hit the order button. But fortunately I came across it myself through my investigations. I had two test drives with the Model Y and both times a model before October 2022 (with sensors). The Tesla employee did NOT mention twice that the parking sensors will no longer be available in the latest model. An absolute cheek! Tesla deliberately plays the customers for stupid in my eyes. It can't be that I put so much money down for the Model Y and it doesn't even have a parking assistant that works. Every small car has this feature these days and laughs about it. It is also unacceptable that Tesla leaves customers out in the cold and not better informed. I hope the class action lawsuits against Tesla that are currently being prepared in Germany will be filed as soon as possible. It is also incomprehensible to me how Tesla can keep this mess under the table. I'm hoping sales will finally collapse for Tesla to act.
    Don't get me wrong, I love the Model Y, but I just can't ignore it. That's just a huge mistake Tesla made. And as long as Tesla hasn't solved the problem, I won't buy the Model Y, which unfortunately also annoys me a lot. So Tesla, change that shit! I'm also willing to pay more for it! But removing such an important feature for cost reasons is a bad joke!!! People who can't afford a Tesla should look for another car.

With federal and state incentives, destination fee, order fee, and sales tax it cost just over $32k. With trade in of my 2012 Forester with 108,000 miles, it’s total cost is just under $25k. @@wp8047 it's probably using the hw3 software for it still. When all models running HW4 they will push HW4 unique SW.

    What does the system do when parilelle parking ?

    There’s definitely a reason why Tesla on their channel loves posting and showing off the different features of their vehicles and “Tesla Vision” is not one of them. This was a huge step backwards and I hope they realize the mistake they made asap so they can rectify it as they should. These are not cheap cars and if my obsolete 25k Dodge Dart has better parking sensors than any of the new Tesla models then that’s a major problem…

    Very good video! Great work! This is valuable input before buying a Tesla (I am thinking about new Model 3 MY24).
