Thanks for this review! I lucked into a W12 early this year for $40 at my local store. It's a '23 batch & some folks said good things about this batch being a hitter. I've only had W107 though from '23 & it's spectacular! Better than some WFP picks I've had. I think '23 was a great year for Wellers.

Great review, sounds fantastic. As Michter’s 10 year bourbon proved in 2023, proof isn’t everything.

$165 is a good price for Weller on Secondary. Surprised the current bottle is better, but happy to hear it.

Your video inspired me to get my own weller 12 from 2023. It is the bomb. With that said I just did my own blind review against owa, kc12, and lot b, and weller 12 came in last…doesn’t seem to stand up in blinds for some reason.

My brother has the 2022 weller 12. Neither one of use was a big fan of it. It was one of the first bottles we got when we started collecting, it was pretty good at first, but once we got a little more into our journey, we went back to it and really didnt care for it. Now i kinda wana get a 2023. I passed on buying weller 12 a couple times

Nice review! I walked into a big box store a couple of weeks ago and picked up 10 Weller 12yr bottles for 69.99 each! Kept two bottles, traded some, and gave my bourbon friend the others for the same price. Traded for a Magnus cigar batch 86, Weller Antique 107, Weller FP pick, and a Seagrass. Agree it’s a really nice pour! Cheers

Wow thats a score. Surprised they let you buy that many at once. I had 2022 w12 and didnt care much for it. Now i wish i didnt pass on others that may have been 2023. I have 3 full proof picks, 2 are good one not so much. My bro and i both got the 1st one and i didnt care for it so still havent opened it. The 2nd one i got is really good, i actually just got the 3rd today and its amazing

I’ve had the 2020 and 2023 releases of W12. The 2020 release had some funky oak on it and was not a fan and was pretty flat. The 2023 is a different ball game! A little more fruit, age and depth. I get very little oak and just more of an age note with no funky oak! I agree, W12 2023 was a pleasant surprise!

Ive only had the 2022 w12 and dont care much for it. Kinda muted flavor. Was one of the first allocated bottles my brother got when we started collecting. Liked it when we 1st got it, but as we got further into our collections and went back to it, dont care much for it. I actually passed on buying it. Wish i knew 2023 was that much better i would have grabbed one

  • @heatherharrison264

Last month, there was an allocated bourbon event at the Total Wine in my area. They sent out e-mails to people who had spent enough money there and sold the bottles first come first served, limit one to a customer. The natural result of this was a long tater line out front. I won't wait in a line for any bottle of booze, but I had to show up there at opening time to see the spectacle. The line cleared out surprisingly quickly while I was shopping for non-allocated stuff, so I decided to see what was left over. There was a lot of Weller 12 and Blanton's. Most people were buying them, but there was enough to go around, so they didn't even need to waste their time in a line. I didn't get either one because there was also some Knob Creek 18 left over, and I love Knob Creek, so that is the one that went home with me. If Weller 12 and Blanton's had been the only ones left, I would have taken a Weller 12. At $40, it was a good deal, whereas Blanton's at $80 was too much. I have had Weller 12 at a bar, and I found it tasty but not mind-blowing, and easily worth $40 for a bottle. It sounds like this year's batch might be better than what I've had in the past, but I'm still glad I got the Knob Creek 18.

Man i never got an email from total wine about weller 12. I got one email before/around xmas and it was russells 13 and knob 18 i think. First come first serve but only a few of each. I passed on it because my brother has rr13 and im not a big fan. He also got w12 when we first started collecting last feb, and we arent big fans of it. Now i wish i didnt pass up on other w12 or checked to see if they were 23 releases

It’s my favorite Weller out of the standard four releases and the Kosher Wheat. It’s low proof, but has a wonderful nose and as a first pour, always shines for me. It’s sweet, oaky, citrusy, creamy vanilla forward and changes in the glass if you take your time. Everyone needs to realize that more proof also means more calories. We seldomly talk about that. I really appreciate full flavored bourbons that aren’t loaded with extra calories. Obviously, Weller 12 can’t be an everyday pour. My favorite readily available low proof bourbon is Michter’s standard bourbon. I used to love Evan Williams SiB, but it’s KY only at this point. That was a great review. I’m glad it didn’t disappoint! Cheers!
BTW, Sweet Wheat is also delicious and low proof. I was lucky to find a bottle recently for a decent price. Keep an eye out !

My brother and i started collecting early 2022, weller 12 and blantons were the first allocated bottles we got, in feb. I took the blantons n let him take the weller 12. When we first tried it, we liked it. As we collected more, when we went back to it, we didnt care much for it, and ive since passed down buying it. He has the 2022 batch. Wish i knew 2023 was much better and paid attention to date codes when had the other chances. Now i really want a 23 release to see if it really is that much better
I also got a 1792 sweet wheat. Its good, but i dont find it impressive. Solid for the price, but didnt find it to be anything special

@@jacksmith2315 Hi! Everyone has their own tastes. I will pick up any W12 I come across at or near retail. I don’t like 1792 SW as much, but at or near retail it’s a gem imho. On the other hand, I’ve passed on Blanton’s a few times at retail. It’s ok, but I don’t love it for $80. Cheers!

Ive only tried the 2022 w12 and dont find it all that good. 107 is ok. The only W FP's ive tried have been store picks. I actually just got my 3rd one today. The 1st one i still havent even opened because i tried my brothers 1st and wasnt all that impressed. The 2nd one i got is pretty good, i sampled the one i got today before i bought it and it really really good. Special reserve im not a big fan of. 107 i like but not going to hunt another. Id love to find a 107 store pick.

Agreed. Though i havent had the 2023 w12. The 2022 my brother has, we liked it when he first got it, but it was when we just got into collecting. When we went back to it a couple months later, and we both bought many bottles of other stuff, we didnt care for the w12 when we went back to it. 107 is definitely better. Ive got 3 store picks of full proof, 1st one i didnt even open since i tried my brother (same pick) first and didnt care for it. 2nd one i got is pretty good. 3rd one i actually got today, got to sample it before buying it, and its amazing. Been edgy for quite a while to dismiss W12, esp by BT fanboys and the typical hunters/tubers who claim "I like the high proof stuff... whooha!". Can't imagine it was a bottom shelfer that was available all the time back in the day, though my uncle has been mentioning W12 to my cheap scotch father for the past 30 years (till the bourbon boom hit). Appreciate the info about your secondary price. Lot of people still wanting that $220 range, even though they don't want to drink it. Would absolutely love to see an armagnac review from a bourbon/rye drinker. Great review.

$40-$50 MSRP is incorrect. The Weller 12 MSRP is $69.99. Big difference in price points there. But yeah even at $70 it's a superb pour for the 2023 Weller 12 year

All of these bottles were purchased in 2023, even the 2019. Now I want to open the 2023. I wonder what year the last bottle I killed was. Pissed that I got a 2019 slipped in there. I agree. The 2022 was very muted. Just taste like a slightly older special several, which is pretty flat and muted. Never tried others. Didnt care to after trying 2022. It was in a few raffles for msrp and i didnt even try for it. I wouldnt even own a special reserve if it wasnt given to me, and i could have bought it a few times. 107 is pretty good. Have 3 picks of full proof. 1st one i didnt open because i tried my brothers first (same pick) and didnt care for it. 2nd one i got is pretty good. 3rd i actually just got today. Was able to sample before buying it, and its really really good. 12 is jus plain and boring one or two noter, and those notes arent even bold. Idk why theres so much hype for it. Ive actually seen a store selling 107 for more than 12 lol. ETL i really want to try. I wouldnt pay anything crazy for it, and i dont expect it to blow my socks off, but i still really want to try it if i could get for msrp or a little bit more. Probably wouldnt pay more than 60-70 if i had the chance. Blantons, i have 3, the last one i paid 80 for and i think that was too much.
