      You should cover the story of the young 18 year old boy who worked at a store, he looked up and was waiting for his father to pick him up. The police saw him standing there and went up to him demanding ID, the boy said you have no lawful reason to ask for my ID, basically the cop threw him to the ground and held his head down, then lied to the other cops when they got there saying he got in his face, which never happened. There is video. What is the obsession with ID? Cops need to be trained better.

      Those officers probably don't really care about not getting the real suspects. There have been quite a few officers who falsely arrested someone for homicide, when they knew that the real suspect was still at large. If these officers cared about anything, it would be possibly facing a reprimand and their own egos being damaged.

      That part in particular was really bad, even if you overlook everything else the cops did wrong up to that point.
      As soon as the manager told them, "You have the wrong people; there's no problem with them," it was time for the cops to immediately apologize and make things right. Instead they took a moment to seek out any further excuse to keep depriving a group of innocent guys of their freedom.
      Just pure scum. I don't doubt for a second these cops have a long list of unlawful detentions, arrests, and uses of force against the public. They clearly don't know the law, or don't care about it, and are more interested in throwing their weight around than keeping the peace or serving the public.

      @@70baja A trespass warning doesn't involve being detained and unable to leave. Nor does it involve being handcuffed and sat on the ground. I'm honestly not sure if criminal trespassing is a felony, but any arrest on their records severely affects their ability to get into a good college, should they choose to go to college.
      A trespass warning means you are told to leave, which they were not, and then you leave. Refusal to leave, or coming back, is criminal trespassing.

    • @70baja
      @70baja 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@coltwest6858 I'm not sure that's correct. In some states, a trespass warning requires some sort of paper trail requiring the person being trespassed to, at least, provide identification and they are typically detained until they can be identified so the warning can be properly served. I just did a smidge of internet research but did not find anything on point concerning Indiana law. Fortunately, you seem to be pretty sure about what you're saying. Do you have a cite to a law or case on point concerning whether a person being trespassed is lawfully detained in Indiana?
      ETA: btw, you may be incorrect in your assertion that one must be asked to leave before being formally trespassed. Indiana law seems to allow the issuing of a trespassing warning to one who hasn't even entered the property.

      It’s nit that they’re morons who don5 know the law. It’s that this is the example their supervisors and more experienced cops have set for them…it’s what they’re used to…it has not been a thing for very long to have so many people asking for badge numbers (although I think the badge number thing gets a bit blown out if importance and gets used more as a dick measuring contest or intended as a sign of defiance in most cases) and there haven’t been people demanding a supervisor (which should always be remembered is not a legal right, but just a policy in some jurisdictions) or people insisting on not identifying themselves unless legally required to. A lot of cops are still very much not used to the “auditor attitude” they get from some people these days. And outside of frequent TH-cam viewers, the general public isn’t aware of it either. There’s a who,e bunch if cops who have been used to doing things one way and never getting bucked on it, not because they were trained to do it that way during the how to be a tyrant portion of their training… just because that’s the way it’s always been done. People didn’t used to see it as any kind of a problem to show a cop their ID. And it’s been policy in most places that they get everyone’s ID on any interaction. Just for reports and documentation. And still most people who squawk about cops asking for ID don’t really have any idea why it’s an issue. But it’s how cops were “raised” and developed in the cop business and it was never a big deal before but now asking what somebody’s name is often gets them cussed at and called a tyrant and all kinds of hateful shit being wished upon them. Get it. I’m not a huge fan of most cops and I’m totally against the overstepping and misguided lost direction of policing in America which is so lacking in accountability I’m not sure anyone even knows the term anymore but I believe it’s based in the degradation of agencies caused by failed command staff which are controlled by politicians more concerned with their own advancement and finances than the good of the agency, so it can protect and serve the best interest of community and find it politically expedient to focus on the wrong things, collecting revenue and gaining power while pushing social justice within the agency rather than pursuing actual justice for their constituents. There’s a lot to be fixed in policing but everyone sitting around bitching and badmouthing all cops for all things and going out of their way to find something to bitch about and to constantly demonize cops just to be divisive and make matters worse isn’t going to help. People need to realize that they are at fault in this as well. It’s our duty as citizens to be involved and to be educated voters, especially in local elections. So when people are bitching about cops and how they never get prosecuted for anything and this, that, n the other…while they’ve had the same mayor.,,.same city council…same district attorney in office forever…they’ve brought those problems on themselves n need to shut up and fix it.

Remember the case of the gentleman who was handcuffed and brought outside of his own house in his underwear because the cops wouldn't listen that it was a false (security) alarm? Once the supervisor came and told them they were wrong they just milled out of the house without another word.
      I think the issue is the cops think if you don't immediately follow thier commands then you're being difficult and therefore they don't have to apologize.

Interactions between the police and the public would improve if dirty laundry was made public on a routine basis in a respectable, unwashed, but transparent way. If you’re just a regular person, you would better understand your rights. If you’re a law enforcement officer, you would stop and think about your actions and then get better educated on policing or stop being an officer. In my work, I never stop learning, I imagine its the same with law enforcement. You wouldn’t want to be the officer who acted like a jackass and now everyone is talking about you. I don't live in Indiana, but I don't think these issues would be as prevalent nationally if officers were held accountable for this kind of behavior. So often we find out months to years later about these incidents only after a suit has been filed against the department and city. Not only that, some jurisdictions still try to threaten bystanders with obstruction of justice for intervening. I have a hard time believing that if only the black man was present this wouldn't have escalated even further. I was taught a man true to himself will admit AND rectify his wrongs. To admit it, isn't enough because you didn't learn anything. You only recognized it.
      They don't teach that at the academy. It comes from home; from upbringing, or lack thereof.
      To imagine 'saving face' is only a cop flaw, is in itself justification for it to continue the way it does elsewhere, to reflect upon those that are in charge of leading these 'officers'.
