Hi Marion, Quilter’s book is beautiful. From what I could see as you were paging through, he supports his color theory by showing you what he’s used and where those colors fall on his wheel. The images are beautiful and plentiful, and exercises can be very helpful. From that perspective, I’ll check his book out. With that said, what I did not get from your review is an understanding of what you got from his book, i.e., what did you learn from his book, and how it has affected your thinking and your approach to painting including selecting palettes and colors or using existing ones.
I’m currently working my way through Jeanne Dobie’s Making Color Sing, and while I love her recommended palette, I love even more is how she explains why she selects the pigments she does when mixing to create the various colors she wants to use. Her description of the color contents and properties of her pigments has helped me look at the colors in my various palettes in a completely different way. Because of that, my color mixing has improved as I’m better able to work with the properties of the paints in my palettes.

Hi Quinn, I appreciate your comment and if I do his book review again, I will definitely explain how his theories have impacted on my view of colour theory because his impact was huge. I especially loved his simpler way of viewing warm vs cool colours. I also have a copy of Dobie's book and her explanation about transparency is fabulous. I will add that book to my list of books to review.

Great question. It would depend on your knowledge at the moment. If you’re wanting more colour theory knowledge, Quiller’s book is superb. If your wanting more info on paint qualities then Dobie’s book is excellent with great explanations.
