  • Adding a stylish wood panel accent wall to add some character to our master bedroom. Used tongue and groove boards and a finish nailer to lay this great looking wall right over our boring drywall. amzn.to/3dtWUOV this tool will make it even easier! We are using pine tongue and groove 8" boards.

I read that in order to help the boards reduce shrinking or expanding after installation that you should allow the boards to sit in the room they’ll be installed in for a few weeks so they can adjust to the humidity level in the room and such. Was this something you did? Or did you just buy the boards and go? If so, have the boards shrunk or expanded in a super noticeable way?

I did leave the boards inside in the room for a couple days to adjust to temp and humidity. I've found that it does make a difference but weeks isnt necessary if you are buying from a big box store where the lumber is kept indoors. If you are buying from an outdoor lumberyard then acclimating the wood starts to have more of an impact.

I want to do this vertically on my bedroom wall

Sounds like a cool project! One challenge you may have is just finding something to nail to since your studs are going to be spaced about 16" apart. I would suggest putting up at least a few pieces of batten board (long small boards that will sit horizontally screwed to your wall studs) so that each of your vertical boards can be mailed into something solid. Good luck! Subscribe for more tips when I post them! 👍

@@diydads2535 Nice job. I did this many years ago (20 probably) over drywall, vertically, and had no issues shooting directly into the drywall. Of course the tops and bottoms were in studs, as were the 1"x3" trim that also helped. I just made sure I put a nice angle on the nails and used plenty of them. I thought about using some type of mastic, but decided against it in case we ever wanted to remove the V board some day.

Where did you get the wood from? Great video!

I got mine from Menards, the same exact boards except mine were 8' in length. They have many sizes available. Relatively cheap as well.

Not trying to be picky or anything but why didn’t you staggered them ?

    • @diydads2535

We decided we didn't want any seams on our wall but that is entirely personal preference. It really comes down to the look you want. If you decide to use shorter boards you should definitely stagger them.

Actually its recommended to lay the carsiding over drywall and use the drywall as a fire protector. Those saying tear the drywall out need to investigate a little more and understand it is highly recommended to have a fire safe protection behind because if for some reason that wall catches fire without the drywall your wall studs catch fire and it spreads.
