I agree, Jack Daniel's is great, but Jonhnie Walker Red Label, and Black Label are FANTASTIC.There are others too to who wants taste a great whiskey, like Logan, White Horse, Valantine's, some even 12 years old to get ready to be consumed. The taste is indescribable!
@biffoisirate The maize you mention comes from their charcoal filtering system, a lot of burnt sugars are collected during that stage, that's what makes the sugar / maize taste so strong in jack daniels compared to other brands. Personally I'm a wild turkey fan though, jack is a too strong caramel style for me. Can't beat smooth turkey with perfectly made barrels giving it the perfect taste
There are several components to doing a pro job. One resource I discovered that successfully combines these is the Pavas grape plan (check it out on google) definately the best info that I have ever heard of. Check out this incredible website.
One thing about Jack Daniel's All fine, but the amount of Whiskey they have to produce does do bad to the quality. The fame of this is big though and people still buy it, the fame is the reason for the popularity, but there are so many brands that make so much better stuff.
its like comparing a famous artist in the 90's to now. they are still great but you cant compare an artist now to what they where 20 years ago its changing with the time and not always in a bad way.
Can anyone point me to material on the Chivas Bros. Royal Paisley blended scotch? I have googled the shit out of it and can't find anything. I just got a bottle for $35, on a haggle because there was no price tag, and it's a very good scotch but I can't find anything on it other than it was $11 in 1985 (which makes it $25 now solely due to inflation). I'm happy with it either way, but since it was discontinued I'd like to know more. Thanks!
I agree with you, but the man's got a point, Scotch will always remain the original whisky just like Sean Connery will always remain the original James Bond ;)
9:10 "when my whiskey bottle gets down to about 1/4 left - I invite all my friends over and we drink it. It guarantees a good supply of friends." - I thought this was a documentary about whiskey, but then I realized it was simply the tale of a very lonely alcoholic . . .
Well, I'll say I like Jack Daniels Honey... But as far as I'm concerned, Chivas Regal is the best whiskey there is (or at least that I've tasted, fantastic, in my opinion--but then, who would you go to for a good whiskey besides the Scots?)
@Sirchud68 no no! bourbon like JD No.7 or Jim Beam are like perfume!! try a decent Scotch Single Malt like The Glenlivet or Glenmorangie!! much more sophisticated!
Do you have any evidence whatsoever to support that claim? The Scots took Whiskey & gave their own distinct version of it, no doubt but they didn't invent it.
It was from a history show about English rule, many more of the Scots moved higher into the highland to get away from the English, most became depressed and started making spirits, the word whisky is an old Celtic or Pictish word meaning "drink of life".
Yes it's Irish Gaelic AKA Irish that means the same thing in Scottish Gaelic. The Irish word was "uisce beatha", the Scots was "uisge beatha". Both mean "water of life". Scottish Lowlander's were not even Gaelic. The actual story is that circa 6/7th century AD, Irish monks travelled to the Middle East. There they learned new distilling techniques. They returned to Ireland, used these new techniques on Irish crops & created whiskey. Over the years these techniques spread to Scotland, which had strong ties with Ireland (Scottish Gael's were descended from the Irish who settled in Scotland, known as Pictland @ the time). Since it was so long ago and the Gael's didn't keep records in a conventional way @ the time, there is no written account of when it was created. However, as proven by archaeological evidence, the 1st record of whiskey anywhere on Earth was in Ireland in 1405. It was only recorded in Scotland in 1494. Over the next few centuries, the Scots adapted their distilling processes while the Irish did not, leading to Scotch. In the 1800's, Irish whiskey was by far, the most popular spirit in the World. Since Scotch was of poor quality then, the Irish added the "e" to differentiate their far superior product. However, American prohibition, bootlegging as well as a ban on all Irish products being exported to the British Empire devastated the Irish whiskey industry. The Scots, who had by then vastly improved their own whisky, were able to meet the worldwide demand that was still there & that's why Scotch is so much better known than Irish Whiskey today. I'm glad to say though that Irish Whiskey is making a comeback. It still has a long way to go to reach the sales of Scotch but I hope it'll get there.
i used to think the same way. jack daniels isn't very interesting whiskey, that's true. But try Buffalo Trace for example. there is some good american product out there. But it's not the from the really big distilleries.
Fuck unsupported statements of opinion stated as fact. Backing up claims, or admitting opinions are just that, opinions is the best. Being write intelligently is nice too.
@theperv01 yep. drugs same way or so i hear lol. everybody is a friend when u can get them wasted. thats why they call them USERS. As in USE your ass then toss u aside!
I like single malt scotch whiskey better than the american whisky's but this is still and ignorant thing to say. all the work it takes to make either of them and there taste cannot be compared because its relative and subjective. Sure, it can't compare to old fashioned scottish whiskeys its the history and knowledge behind how there made that makes them great but same with american whisky its all relative. After that it becomes subjective to ones taste. I appreciate both
You're a real bright one, aren't you? You do realize that the Scott's brought whiskey to America, right? You must also realize that much of the "American" whiskey is made much the same way, right? Jack Daniels is not "the" American whiskey, hell it's not even in the top 10!
Ya there is a problem no face, private account, what are you hiding? . "But don't throw bullshit at everything." Funny you say that because that's exactly what I'm trying to do, "throw bullshit" to get people to see that that it's just that, "BS". Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining.
jack d jack d jack d,........people ethink thats all there is cos its so comercially available, there are thousands, i really prefere jim beam to be honest
sorry you dont like it. but you are incorrect to say that its not "good." its just not your taste. also... beer to whisky is not a good comparison. its like alcoholic apples to alcoholic oranges. get better at this and then try again.
Leave it to the History Channel to miss the biggest factor in the name of Bourbon. It must come from Bourbon County Kentucky, otherwise it's just an American Whiskey.
how can you be so ignorant? there is no "best" out there, taste is subjective, an i for example prefer to have choices and different varieties of flavour. i enjoy scotch as much as bourbon, canadian, irish, or any other high quality whisky
I've been to the Brandy Library in NYC. Great place! I've met Ethan too. He knows his stuff.
Are whiskey barrels only used once? I guess that might explain why I recall reading somewhere that rum is sometimes aged in used whiskey barrels.
it garanties a good supply of friends, best quote ever

Jack, Jim and Johnny are the best three!
Drinking a glass of The Talisman scotch at the moment, celebrating that the weekend starts!
If I invited all my friends over to share 1/4 of a bottle, they would slap me. And I would thank them.
And Jameson's, that's good stuff.
@biffoisirate The maize you mention comes from their charcoal filtering system, a lot of burnt sugars are collected during that stage, that's what makes the sugar / maize taste so strong in jack daniels compared to other brands.

@GutsandGlory45 Glen Moray, Talisker.
The one thing that seperates whiskey from all other spirits in the world is that it is made from grain-Brandon.P
absolutely right... that's why Scotland is the world biggest supplier of whiskey..no wait that isn't right
I prefer bourbon! But Jack is really really really good to!
That guy Ethan Kelley reminds me of the Bill Brasky SNL sketch.
ItsRud1 doesn’t he use a rattle snake for a condom?
hmmm any single malt will beat a blended IMHO. There is good blended whisky but a good malt at or over 12 years old for me is the peak.
Well, I'll say I like Jack Daniels Honey...
But as far as I'm concerned, Chivas Regal is the best whiskey there is (or at least that I've tasted, fantastic, in my opinion--but then, who would you go to for a good whiskey besides the Scots?)
Highland Park - a scotch, but a fine one indeed.
Second spirit is soju, third is cachaca
Revise the subtitles. They're pretty far off.

@Sirchud68 no no! bourbon like JD No.7 or Jim Beam are like perfume!! try a decent Scotch Single Malt like The Glenlivet or Glenmorangie!! much more sophisticated!

@baronmaul

Whiskey was created in Ireland.
The story is, Whisky was started in Scotland first by Scots Highlanders who were tired of English oppression.
Do you have any evidence whatsoever to support that claim? The Scots took Whiskey & gave their own distinct version of it, no doubt but they didn't invent it.
