    Hey Oliver, I've been thinking deeply recently about changing from my current mechatronics degree to either a bachelor of software engineering or a bachelor of computer science. I've thought about the swap as I've enjoyed the coding courses (I've just finished my first uni semester,) I've done. Might be a stretch, but are you aware of what the job prospects of a software engineer against a mechatronics engineer are in Australia?

    • @OliverFoote

    Speaking only about coding related to Mechatronics and Robotics. Which language is generally used to program the robotic system? I know most people suggest Python to learn first as it is easier to learn. But how would you suggest one should go about it?

    • @OliverFoote
      @OliverFoote  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can really choose whatever language works best for you or for the hardware that you are using. C is generally faster at executing than Python is, but Python is easier to use. I would learn C because Arduino is based off C. But Python is a good place to start if you just want general knowledge and want to start coding ASAP. I would look up TH-cam videos and Python tutorials, there are tons on TH-cam. All of the ones I've seen are super helpful

    Hey, I'm from Portugal and currently in my 2nd year of highschool (11th year of school), and here we have several options when we do the transition from 9th year to 10th. Going to the 10th year of school you can follow the "normal paths" and go through highschool doing basically the usual thing everyone is used to, but if you already know what you wanna do you can do a professional course in that area and when you finish highschool you're considered a technician in that field. I'm currently in my second year of a informatics professional course, and my idea is to get a bachelor's degree in informatics engineering (which is basically what you guys call computer science or computer engineering) and then a master's degree in mechatronics engineering, but I still got some questions about mechatronics engineering. So one of my questions is, do you have a class for AI or learn and work with AI in a master's degree mechatronics engineering course? Do you learn and work with things like nanotechnology? Do you learn or work with cybersecurity and/or ethical hacking? This are questions important to me that could alter the path I want to go, so if you cloud answer them it would be awesome. Thanks and great video!

      @alfredomulleretxeberria4239 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As its name says, the main focus of mechatronics is the combination of mechanical and electronic stuff. While studying mechatronics, much of what you'd see would be stuff like making programs and building electronic circuits that will allow you to control, for example, a robotic arm or a system of gears. The math studied in computer science and mechatronics is more or less the same (Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations), but computer science is much heavier on learning about programming and the theoretical aspects of algorithms and computing, whereas mechatronics is heavy on control systems (for cars, airplanes, refrigerators, etc.)
      In mechatronics, you might get to take one or two courses on materials science, but unless it happens to be your university's specialty, you'll most likely not learn about nanotechnology at all. You might be able to take a single course on artificial intelligence in mechatronics, but in computer science, you'd get an extremely thorough introduction to topics like machine learning and computer security. Some people might get to study computer vision and signal processing in master's degree programs for mechatronics, but it's much more common for people to go to computer science (or even electrical engineering) departments to study such topics.
      All of this, of course, depends on the university you intend on applying to, since some universities have a slightly narrower focus, whereas others give students a broader range of courses to choose from.

Is there anything I can do to develop myself specially in coding cuz I've searched alot on TH-cam but couldn't find someone who teaches it simply it was all complicated. I guess you could try leetcode, or some similar website. It’s really just practice once you’ve learned it. So just try to use it on a coding project. And if you feel like you need to learn more you can go to freecodecamp.org and see if they have anything.

      Systems and Control would probably be working with simulation software to simulate how a system would react to certain inputs, creating controllers and feedback loops etc. Could be applied to various real life systems, cars, planes, robots, etc. Not sure about high tech engineering though, that doesn't really tell me much. My guess is you'd be doing lots of software in that one as well.

      @@OliverFoote thanks for the info 😊
      The ONLY major difference that I found besides software usage is that Systems and Control deals with analysis of the real time systems and their control engineering ....whereas, High Tech Engineering deals with the technical knowledge required to design complex micro-, nano-, and macro-systems used in mechatronics realm, and it has 4 focus areas from where we hav to choose 1 - Mechatronic System Design, Engineering Dynamics, Micro and Nano Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, and Opto-Mechatronics.
      Now, am finding myself a bit inclined towards High Tech Engg.... However I need some advice and suggestions in deciding brother !

      No I didn't get free choice. It varies from year to year on the level of difficulty. In my year it wasn't too bad since everyone wanted software or ECE, but last year the average was insanely high. Not sure about this year. You would kind of have to talk to other people to get a feel for how many people in your year want to do Tron. I think that as long as you work just a little harder than everyone else you can get your first choice.

      Hi, I would recommend looking at the Mechatronics Program at McMaster's website. academiccalendars.romcmaster.ca/preview_program.php?catoid=41&poid=21910. It should tell you the courses, I mentioned pretty much all the software and apps that I use in the video. I would recommend looking online for resources on how to learn them if you are interested. There are tons of TH-cam videos on all of them.

      I’m not too sure if Russian schools export degrees well. I think there’s probably some sort of website that can tell you if your schools degree will transfer to another country well. I have a friend who knew some engineers from Russia and Canada didn’t recognize their degrees, so I’d do some research about that. Check government websites.

    There is one question I have that isn't well explained. Why wouldn't it be advantages to do college and then university? Sure you might pay for one more semester, but college costs less and only goes for two semesters anyways. College would give you the work experience for the resume and then university would give you more options and prestige.

    • @alfredomulleretxeberria4239
      @alfredomulleretxeberria4239 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not Oliver, but it's not exactly under it. Mechanical engineering students take certain courses that mechatronics students don't take, like heat transfer, vibrations, aerodynamics, finite element analysis. Instead of those, mechatronics students take courses on topics like power/digital electronics, embedded systems programming, and industrial automation.
      Mechatronics is somewhat of an intersection between mechanics, electronics, and control systems. It's got bits from all 3 of them and it's none of them at the same time.
