    I had to ask myself why I watched a video more than an hour long about a revolver I'd never heard of, in an equally obscure caliber, that was never adopted by a BIG service. And the simple answer is, you guys do a great video. The history, as always, was well done. The animation, the handling of an actual gun. Mae's smiling face when she gets to shoot. The comparison with other revolvers she's shot. And let me say again, she's shot more guns than I've ever seen and I'm twice her age! No one, absolutely no one does a specialist type video like this. You guys are at the top of the heap by a large margin! Thank you.

      It is the mark of a well made documentary style show that it gets you invested even even if you have no clue what the particular item of the episode is. They know how to present the technical and historical information in a way that is entertaining and educational at the same time.

    Pro-tip: the "Real" is pronounced "Hey-Al" in singular, and "Hey-Eyes" in plural. Portuguese does some odd things with R's.

    • @anthroderick5383

      That's real hard to pronounce 😃

    • @davecarlson1918
      @davecarlson1918 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. In Spanish, the "R" sound is rolled at the front of the mouth. In Portuguese, the "R" sound is rolled in the back, like the French or even the Saxons do... But since very few people can actually roll the r in the back of the throat, it instead becomes an "H" sound. This is particularly evident in Brazilian Portuguese.
      Women with the name "Ruth" are startled when Portuguese speakers pronounce their name: "Hoochie."
      So Real/ "Ray-all" in Spanish is "Hey-al" or even "Hey-ow" in Portuguese.

      @@anthroderick5383 Um, well, yeah sort of. It has a lot of "S" sounds and some of the vowels get sort of clipped... So it does sound like a Slavic language at times when spoken there? Of course, there is more variation within Portugal itself than the Portuguese spoken in Brazil or by people from Angola, for instance. Its a bit like British English, Northumbrian, etc. etc. I guess? Every little hill and vale has a dialect. The Portuguese spoken by people from Cabo Verde/ Cape Verde is mighty different too.... I must look Portuguese, because when I tried to speak it in Lisbon with my terrible Carioca/Rio de Janeiro and U.S. English accent people were genuinely startled... Like "dude! Do you have a speech impediment or did you sustain a head injury or something?!"

    I like revolvers! The last time I took an automatic (my fabulous CZ-52!) to the range i spent three quarters of my time trying to pick up the empties. I never did find them all. And that brass is damned expensive. My 1895 Nagant revolver is much more, er..., recreational. I never loose any brass and the reloading process is complex and elegant. And the barrel is absolutely the ONLY part that gets dirty.
    I once served in a NATO gig with a Portuguese Navy Officer. It was 2001 or 2002. He was a data link geek and I was a radar geek. We had to travel into the combat zone at one point, and we had to be armed. I drew an M-9 from the armory that retained at least 10 percent of its original finish. My Portuguese friend produced some ancient revolver in an equally ancient flap holster. I tried to find out what, exactly, it was, but he didn't want to discuss it. As my daddy taught me years earlier that it was impolite to argue with someone carrying a gun, I left the subject alone. Today i'm really wondering what was under that flap? Probably just a Model 10, but it is a neat mystery.

    Interestingly (at least to me!) the muzzle velocity on the 9.1 Abadie is ALMOST low enough for a gun firing it to be a semi-unregulated firearm under Canadian law (the limit is 500 fps). Its muzzle ENERGY, on the other hand, is better than 20 times over the limit for semi-unregulated firearms (5.7 joules). That particular section is meant to carve out exceptions for nail guns, rivet guns, paintball, airsoft, etc; Canadian law defines ANYTHING with a barrel that expels a projectile capable of destroying an eyeball as a firearm, so without that section, it's all-manual barn-raisings all the way. And we think of AMERICAN firearms laws as a mess... (Anyone here who has any interest in firearms/weapons law who HASN'T seen the channel "Runkle of the Bailey" needs to go there right now; the best crossover of gun/law content I've seen on this site, and I'm including Fudd Busters. Ya boi's got good content, but that 12 minute limit he's set for himself means he has to edit out a LOT of minutiae that, let's face it, are SUPER important in a legal proceeding. Call me a nerd all you want, just keep feeding me that sweet, sweet context and precedent!)

    Another great historic video. Maybe not on my bucket list.... but I'd love to see the reaction of the range safety officer at my local range as I load this pistol. The RSO's there are typically not "up to speed" on anything other than a Glock, 1911, or J Frame Revolver. I once had to explain that I could not "swing out" the cylinder on a single action army during a cease fire. :)
