Thanks you all so so much for the overwhelming support. I will continue to use the Godot engine, and I feel more motivated than ever to make more progress on Ducky Runners 🦆❤️
Keep at it dude! 🦆
@@brahillms1374 Appreciate you yo! I'm already making more progress!
Godot or Unity don't matter, stick with whatever works for you. There'll always be a feature where the grass is greener on the other side.
I love the limitations though, one run to win sounds golden
@@MarcusSanatan This is true! In that case I think I’ll stick with Godot 👊🏽
Yup, the animation player node looks greener on Godot for me
@@w花b yeah it’s amazing!!
I thing it is a good idea to continue with the Godot game engine
🙏🏽 thanks for commenting and watching 👊🏽 I think that’s the direction I’m going to go in
Encounters a minor inconvenience.
Ditches entire engine.
In any engine saving and loading will involve serializing and deserializing data, and reading and writing it to and from a file. Make it simple and save only a tiny portion of game data, for example only the best time in each level as number of milliseconds.
Thanks for the advice 👊🏽 I won’t be giving up on Godot
Don’t go engine skipping. Even with Unity, you will bound to come across problems. Stick with the engine you’re familiar with IMO.
@@HyperEpicGames solid advice 👊🏽 I’ll be sticking with Godot. Thanks yo
Fellow dev here, though I've been focused on Unity for over a decade (poking at Unreal & eyeing Godot, lol, but have yet to make the leap. Best of luck surmounting the various obstacles in your way; they never end, lol. As for a "hardcore" take on the game, why not? It's worked well for a ton of others & will save you the headache of having to capture & store all that data. Tossed a sub your way & look forward to following your progress. Oh, and "ducky beard" lol 🦆 🦆🦆 Rock on!
Ayy what up Kpr2 👊🏽 thanks for the support, really appreciate it! And I think I’ll add a save feature to my next game 😅 as you said, save me the headache.
Have you released any games ? I would love to check ‘em out!
I’m about 15 hours into a project including a bunch of stuff that I’ve never built before (I don’t understand how the internet works; what’s a React component??), and I think I’ll be able to ship today or tomorrow.
I’m not programming anything. I tell Claude 3.5 Sonnet what I want to build, and it writes the code. I test it, give feedback, iterate.
I think the era of “humans write code with their fingers” is ~over (AI has gotten so much better at coding in the last *few months*, the speed of progress is dizzying), and the next step is humans-as-designers giving instructions to AI workers.
Even if you still want to be more hands-on than that, just asking Claude to talk you through problems you encounter is a huge way to level up!
been there, done that. Doesn't work with Godot. Like he just said, the lack of resources is killing. Godot community is so young, any problem you encounter is barely mentioned on youtube, godot forums, godot reddit, and is mentioned 1 or 2 times on godot discord. Not to mention Godot 4.x just aired and made previous code obsolete in it. Claude will just hallucinate godot 3.x code from the very few samples online, and it will just not work
I think approaching it with a positive twist is great. There are a lot of creative ideas that come from having limitations. This creativity is what made specific modders standout out for Skyrim on PS4.
This may just find a new mechanic or idea trying to work around an issue. Remember programming is ultimately problem solving so wouldn't hurt be better to challenge your problem solving and critical thinking skills?
In the end they are just tools of course, but I'll always have a bias for Godot lol
Duckybeard! I'm trying to learn Godot myself! I wish you the best of luck man!
Thanks for the support yo!! Gwizz has great Godot tutorials!
@@anOccasionalGamer Thanks! Will Definitely check him out along with you!
haha this is great, all the things you've mentioned in godot ARE doable, just quite un-obvious and i seriously struggled with them too when i was starting. however, im ALWAYS for restrictions breeding creativity. whatever you do, keep at it, and ill see you in the discord
I appreciate the support 👊🏽 thanks for joining the squad
Ducky beard. As an indie dev with 2 released games, one in Godot and one in Unity. No matter what Engine you will have hurdles. When I was younger I switched engines a lot. I recommend staying with Godot because you will get better for game 2 and having to relearn a game engine every time will slow you down. I also found no matter the engine I used, there was a lack of resources on whatever I needed to learn. There are a lot of hurdles in game development, but it feels so good to stick with it and release something.
@@Dillyo wise words, thanks for the advice! I’ll stick with Godot 👊🏽 And I would love to check out your games. Are they on steam?
@@anOccasionalGamer Yes they are, my current project is called Eldritch Exterminators. The other one was at company I worked at in the past.
Ducky Beard. Just played it on itch io and had a blast sppedrunning against the timer! I'm starting out learning Godot so seeing your progress is motivating.
Ayyy thanks for playing! I'm glad you had a blast! That means a lot to me.
We got a lot of game developers in the discord. Don't hesitate to reach out!
Ducky beard
Thanks for sticking around bro 🙏🏽 really appreciate you 👊🏽
Ducky Beard I wanted to add my two cents as a AAA game producer in case it's helpful.
Firstly, Leaning into the limitations and gamifying them is genius. Gamedev is always about cutting corners in the most fun way possible. in fact, the main differentiator between an amateur game designer and a professional one, is knowing which corners to cut and how. All aspects of gamedev are merely smoke and mirrors and tricking the player into believing what they're experiencing. If your goal is to illicit tension, removing the save feature is probably one of the best things you can do.
Secondly, a lot of game devs can approach problems in a linear order (Make a character that moves, build a level, add enemies to the level, add shooting/combat, etc). This is a workable approach but often it means that too many pieces are added before each one has had a chance to be tested (from a gameplay standpoint not a code standpoint). It makes finding issues in your overall design more difficult. I actually wouldn't add saving in (or any other mechanic) until it becomes crucial to the game. Firstly, it lets you push problems you don't want to solve down the line till you have more experience and resources, and secondly it really forces you to strip the game down to its core mechanics and figure out why it's fun in the first place. Then as you add more features in, you're doing it with intention and knowing the problem you're solving.
Hope that's helpful! I can't wait to play your game.
Wise words 🙏🏽 thanks for the solid advice! I really appreciate it! I have a demo of the game in the video description. I’m more motivated than ever to make more progress and get the full game out. Thanks for watching 👊🏽
i’m loving Godot, but i’m struggling with how to code and make combat. I just started so i’m very new but it definitely is a fun project. So far i’ve only done a tutorial from brackey but branched out with making a giant metroidvania level. The problem is idk how to implement combat and so right now it’s just dodge the bosses and get to the end
@@justtrainingv1z I’d suggest checking out gamedev knight’s video on combat in Godot 👊🏽 feel free to join the discord as well 😄
off topic, really liking the 'friends' art in your space.
Aayy thanks yo! I painted it myself 👊🏽
Nice! I prefer this crop to the one floating around with friends text. Sub'd
@@KavanBahrami appreciate you! More content to come 👊🏽
DUCKYBEARD
Sounds like a good idea, keep grinding
Appreciate you fam!
Keep using Godot and you will get more used to it. I recommend taking a break even if it means the game takes longer to develop but it will be better quality. To get better at using Godot when your taking a break from your main project try making more simple 2d projects in Godot to get used to certain features and/or nodes.
That’s actually a great idea! Thanks for the advice yo, I’ll be sticking with Godot!
Ducky beard keep up the work!.. I switch from Unity to Godot and now I feel I can finish my game.. I guess you must feel comfortable with whatever tool you're using
@@AndyRosaDesign ayyy thanks for the support man 👊🏽 I love using Godot. I guess I just have to keep using it and keep learning to get the full use of the engine.
I think you need to continue with getting the save to work and stick with Godot.
If you're struggling with getting it to work I would suggest learning JSON parsing and just use that instead.
Yeah, I think that’s the best move. And thanks 🙏🏽 I’ll look into JSON
Ducky Beard. I'm not sure how I can help, but I can mention the Breckies. He has many videos about Unity and two videos about Godot. If this doesn't help, then I'm sorry.
Thanks for watching, and for the suggestion! I’ll check his videos out 🙏🏽
Im in a similar spot and I wish you all the best. Subbing to see how it goes.
I appreciate the support yo! I hope all goes well with you too 👊🏽
Had the same problems with parallax, it's changed in Godot 4.3
Maybe you should upgrade to the dev branch?
Aside from the topic of development, I liked your beard. I wish I had one similar to the one I have that resembles Chinese beards😅
do your best bro i support you❤
lol thanks yo! I’ve been growing it for a while 😅 I appreciate your support frfr 👊🏽🙏🏽
I say to not be stuck on theoretical reasons why you should use one engine or another, which one do you like?
I honestly like Godot more. And I’ll be sticking with the engine. I thought it would be a valuable to try out Unity since it’s so popular I had to see what the buzz was about
Hi. You could keep count of your eggs by having them turn into duckling objects that follow the mother. Make it a collision response to eggs to have duckling object appear and follow mother. Itd be cute too.
Yooooo that’s actually a really great idea!! 👀
@@anOccasionalGamer I get one every few months under the right conditions.
Don't be disheartened, there will come a time where knowing how to save data will be as obvious as knowing how to breathe. Also, ducky beard.
Thanks for that 🙏🏽 I’ll be sticking with Godot. And thanks for watching the entire video! Really appreciate you 👊🏽
The idea of being stuck to the project is valid, no one defines a creative on their first project. The biggest and most important thing in games is to stay alive, ship, and make money. In that order. Dog bless
You have a point! Most devs aren't known for their first game.
The grind continues, thanks for watching yo!

i just want to say, epic beard.
also to attempt to help you, i look at older tutorials if there is no new ones and try engineer them for the current version.
Aha appreciate it yo 👊🏽
@@BingoBobDev thanks for the advice 👊🏽 you’re a real one
It’s really too bad if you give up on Godot. Yes you have to more on your own, but that’s an advantage for you to build your skills and not just flip features other people built. Saving isn’t difficult, reach out to me and I’ll walk through it with you.
I’m going to stick with Godot. And trust me building my own features has been challenging and also very fulfilling. I’ll definitely reach out, I would really appreciate your help 👊🏽
Ducky Beard, trial and error my man.
@@NeroZenith that’s how I got this far 🤣😅 thanks for watching the full vid 👊🏽 appreciate you
you're thinking for only THIS game. what if you wanted to make another type of game in the future? you will still need to relearn unity. why not just learn it now right away and accumulate the knowledge from now on
That’s a fair point 👊🏽 I’ll be sticking with Godot a gain enough EXP to make any game I want in the future. Thanks for watching yo
I love the raps
Full music video coming soon!!!
Try to learn programming before making a game. Everything will make much more sense, and stuff like saving and loading progress will become something you do in under one hour. It's a shame if your lack of technical skills block your creativity.
Yeah, I’ll definitely be learning more about programming to be come a better developer! I won’t be giving up on Godot 👊🏽

Ducky Beard.
Thanks for watching! Really appreciate you
Godot 👌
Ducky beard bro.
I know this doesn't help but I'm just in the same place. For implementing a simple mechanic that everyone seem to know (rail grinding) I've searched:
-godot youtube
-godot reddit
-godot forums
-godot discord
Even asked questions on godot twitter bro. Come on, how did the guys learn? I read the documentation and it makes me wanna quit. Chat GPT just makes shit up or hallucinates godot 3 code that won't work.
This isn't a minor inconvenience, I've been doing trial and error, sometimes watching even unrelated godot videos, sometimes watching hours-long videos that briefly use the same nodes. This is basically retro-engineering at this point, yo.
I can't code for the life of me, I just paste stuff and pray it works. And when I do write it, I'm the most confused man on earth when i open the script editor and read it again.
If you switch to unity, that's entirely fine. Your goal is to make a game, not to suffer for no reason. Anyone who says otherwise wants you to suffer.
Personnaly i'll stay on godot because I'm slowly getting there. The impostor syndrome is fading away because I'm starting to make things work, but it's still a love/hate relationship. People say you will encounter unsolvable problems on other editors as well, so I don't know
You sound so nice, keep it up.
And get on twitter, godot devs are on twitter. It's important.
We’re in the same boat man. I have a love hate relationship with Godot too. I struggled to find a resource to make power ups in Godot so after A LOT of trial and error I’m ended up making my own system that actually works. It took forever but it’s really fulfilling to get something working from your own logic.
I’ll be sticking with Godot as I really enjoy the engine. And I hope you get better at game development as well. Feel free to join the discord, we have a lot of devs there that are willing to help out.
