I’ve actually had people ask me why I carry a knife, lighter and flashlight. I’ve also had friends go camping with me and they don’t bring items mentioned. It’s crazy to think people would travel 3 hours from their home to go camping and not bring simple things I EDC.
There's something to be said about consistency-of-pockets as well. It's just a good habit lol Before I change/shower at night my pockets get emptied, in first in last out order, on the small table with my coffee maker. In the morning they go back in my pockets in reverse order as I'm making my travel mug up. I don't have ocd so I count on routines to make my day easier. 🤘🏼✌🏽
@@Spthomas47 I tend to place things in the same places because I forget easily and routine makes it better for not spending time looking for stuff, so good habit.
@@helloukw yup yup. My work tool bag is, err, very precise where things go because- I can reach in blind and grab/return anything. Visually I can tell if something isn't there. Where it is after that? Phhhhh. Usually pretty close. Usually lol
Agree with your list one thing id add. Being a father i suggest a bandana, not an over priced hank a cheap bandana bought usually from a dollar store. It works for sweat, snot, blood, grease, tie hair back (girl dad). Pretty much anything a kid can get into a cheap bandana will come in handy. As well as myself, im always working on something and need to wipe my hands off.
@@InkedCarpenter1776 I did as well. Also had a couple hair ties in my truck at all times. When she was little of course. Now that she's almost a teen, that shit is on her lol. Actually there is still one on the gear shift that's been there for years.
I've always got a few hair ties on my key carabineer and a few in my secondary carry. They work so much better than rubber bands in a lot of scenarios. And chicks dig when I've got one for them when they need one, when theirs breaks, or what have you.
I just started watching your channel, your advice is simple even for those who never served and had to survive (I am a disabled vet). Going to the watch, I lost my secondary watch in a dog fight 3 years ago on my farm in East Texas. It was a simple G-shock digital with a leather strap. Was digging up a small stump and found the watch still working after several floods and it being buried in mud. A good watch is often overlooked (the front glass can even be used to signal in sunlight), but they last and can even tell you time without pulling out a phone.
Excellent video. You mentioned carrying cash in the wallet...I also carry an emergency $100 bill in my iPhone case. It has saved me a few times. Being a firefighter, I always have at least 2 flashlights with me because "2 is 1 and 1 is none" meaning if one fails you have a backup. Redundancy is key in my line of work
EDC flashlights are so underrated. Surprised how many dudes don't carry a light and rely on their phones. I mean, to each's own but I find that's one of the most common EDC items I use. I love the Olight Arkfeld's flat design, rechargeable so I don't hesitate to use it, and I love the UV and laser. Not everyone may have use for those but I use them at work all the time. The laser is super helpful for evaluating vision in animals as they will track the laser and the UV is better than many Wood's lamps for skin and eye exams. But having a nice bright (and adjustable) white light is so helpful for finding things in crevices, seeing detailed things that just require more light, fixing things, oops I stayed out later than I thought and now it's dark, power goes out, all that stuff. Keep a high quality folder in one front pocket and a light in the other nearly 100% of the time.
That's conflating 2 different scenarios. I've never once been in a situation where I was out grocery shopping, eating out, or whatever and needed a flashlight. Carrying one in my pocket is just absurd and paranoid to me. I have them around my house, in kit/bags, and in my truck. If I'm going hiking, hunting, etc, it's in the pack. Carrying one in my pocket? I see no need at all unless you commute a long way for work or your job specifically requires it.
@@Swearengen1980…there is nothing paranoid about carrying something that helps you see in the dark or into dark spaces, especially when there are good lumens coming out of something that can be smaller than a tube of chapstick. I don’t panic if I don’t pocket one but it’s to easy to take along. I might not use it much but sure is nice to have when you want it.
@@jimshort9266 But no one is referring to something the size of a tube of chapstick. Everyone features a light that is 3-4" long and definitely takes up considerable room in the pocket. EDC, on your person and not in a pouch/pack, a typical "tactical" flashlight is overkill for 99% of people. That's different situational need/potential need. Most of these people are just city slickers walking around town with a fucking flashlight.
Excellent EDC list, I carry most of that on my person or in the car daily. Whenever I can, I find the smallest items I can find and keep them on my key ring. Example: Swiss Army Classic SD, Olight I1R-2, pill carrier for backup medication, Apple Air Tag. It's all on the keychain and weighs about 7 ounces . When I leave the house, most of my EDC tools are right there. In addition a 3" folding pocket knife. One thing I carry on the keychain, I've never seen anyone else EDC. That's a premium 500GB or 1TB flash drive that contains backups of all my important financial and personal information, even important work files. If the house burns down and the safe doesn't hold up, I want to be able to set up shop anywhere and keep my life moving along. Of course if you're going to do this, you need a drive with a secure vault on it and the files password protected, and even go a step further and Winzip those files and password protect that with a different password.
Bro I'm so glad I found this channel. I'm not an EDC hobby guy, more of a requirement for my Job. I just like to see what new products are out there, what people are using, and if maybe it's something I'd like to use as well. You keep it simple, to the point, realistic, don't push products etc. You ain't a pry bar influencer (that have no practical use, a multitool does all that) but someone who doesn't put themselves above other. Keep doing you man, God bless.
I think the way that you clarify that not everything on the list needs to be on your person, but rather in your vehicle or accessible makes me agree more.
Flashlight is a must!!! Literally saved me from being towed and looking like a helpless fool with my wife recently doing a road repair under my car. Oh, and if it's hands free even better.
ATTABOY !!! I AGREE TOTALLY !!! I HAVE MULTIPLE FLASHLITES JUST IN CASE !!! 2 HEADLAMPS 2 HANDHELD SMALL FLASHLITES, BUT POWERFUL !!! I CARRY MULTI-TOOL ON MY DUTY BELT DAILY, ALSO FIREARMS AND AMMO !!! I AM OUT OF HAND WARMERS AT PRESENT TIME BUT WILL HAVE SOME SHORTLY !! KEEP BLANKET AND SOCKS AND CHANGE OF CLOTHES IN YOUR VEH !!! ALSO CANDLES DIFFERENT KINDS !!! THEY ARE CHEAP , ALONG WITH LIGHTERS AT LEAST HALF DOZEN OR MORE !!! JUMPER CABLES AND ASSORTED TOOLS !!!
I'm glad to have come across your channel definitely helped me cut down what I was carrying. Knife, lighter, flashlight, pen, notebook, battery bank, g shock watch, first aid in a pouch, water bottle, the only thing that changes is my knife depending on where I'm going, I've stuck to ben banter knifes, reliable not aggressive looking.
Atta boy. Here we are a year later and let's see what changed for me in that time Knife: I generally prefer full size(3.5in) or larger and I'm a fan of crossbar locks Still the same choice I just have a few more options. Pen: I've settled on Zebra pens for mix of quality and lower price since I have had some stolen by coworkers currently use a modified Sarasa with an ultra fine tip ink barrel. I keep a stash of dollar store note pads around. My preferred pen is The Zebra F701 with an Ohto .3mm tip barrel Watch: I'd prefer a water resistant Timex expedition however I'm wearing a Samsung watch. Still the same Flashlight: this one I am all over the place I prefer a light with multiple modes and preferably a moonlight mode. I also prefer a clip I can attach to my hat (which is always part of my edc) for hands free operation. Then there's batteries or rechargeable with a battery option I can just drop in a new one and keep rolling if I drain a rechargeable then its out of action for however long it takes to recharge it. I still love a moonlight option and I have been liking the dual fuel thrower option that has popped up lately. Like the Weltool T1pro Multitool: currently I'm carrying a Leatherman surge that has served me well with it's 2 knife blades, scissors, pliers and bit kit. No change here yet Wallet and cash: I'm using a "ridge" like wallet to carry a few cards and a money clip for cash which I usually keep a 20 dollar bill or 2 just in case. Still the same Cordage: I keep some 550 and 1100 cord in my vehicle too. Still doing this too Lighter: This another undecided choice for me I carry and prefer a butane torch and I have a habit of buying value packs of Bic and/or Scripto (do you know the Scripto hack?) lighters that I keep a few in various jackets and in our vehicles. I like Bics for "just in case " it runs out of fuel I can still use the flint for a spark. Battery bank: much like you I have them all over the place too along with a charger cord or 2 for phones and flashlights. Unchanged Water bottle: I prefer steel water bottles because worse case I can boil said water for a variety of reasons such as purification, cooking, ect. This is still the same even though I switched to a Klean Kanteen Hat: Preferably a baseball style which has a bill stiff enough to support a small flashlight for hands free operation, provide shade for my eyes on sunny days, and as a handle to fan flames as I'm building a campfire which can happen often while I'm fishing throughout the year in Delaware. Still the same even though I have looked at a few boonie hats Gloves: I always have a pair or 2 of work gloves in my vehicles for duties such as collecting firewood, changing a tire during cold weather, and other tasks. Still adding these to the empire. This is my revised lineup. What do you think?
Attaboy X! I do change up what I’m carrying slightly depending on where I’m going or who is with me. My boss told someone recently she doesn’t worry about having stuff when she travels with me because I’m always prepared for any situation.
I've been lurking for a bit and hit subscribe today. Your common sense content has helped me to upgrade my EDC stuff and to really think about all the stuff I've been unnecessarily carrying around.
Pretty much all agreed. I think 1st aid is really important too. I can't tell you how many times I've been the hero because I had a few acetaminophen or ibuprofen or benadryl or bandaids and alcohol wipes on me. (I'm an emt, so I carry a lot more in a small kit with me in my bag) Not sure what I'd nix to keep with the 10 theme, though. Probably a pen. But depending on the multitool, a pen could be included. (Thinking SAK) Pen is useful more often, but nothing is better than being able to address someone bleeding or in pain imo.
Watch, flashlight, pry and cutting tool are my 4 most used EDC items. Being able to improvise is key to getting the most out of your EDC and slimming it down to be a practical on person carry
Great video. I have had people act like the stuff I carry is too much at work....then I get the question, "Hey, can I use your flashlight, knife, multitool, etc..." As an Eagle Scout, I still have a problem finding a watch that I can stand. My wrists and fingers expand, contract, and I sweat no matter what since I was a baby, so finding a good analog watch with a tolerable strap is difficult.
Great vid. I might add a bandana. Doesn’t need to be fancy, can be one you get from Walgreens for $1 (but 100% cotton, none of that poly nonsense). Clean up spills, wipe your face, blow your nose, rip it apart for a makeshift bandage, use it as an impromptu filtration mask in emergencies. A simple bandana is a super versatile piece of kit.
Agreed, also a makeshift potholder or container-bag. I got in the habit of carrying one overseas where the WCs didn't necessarily provide paper towels/hot air blowers to dry your hands. Also had a young lady tell me there is something a little more "finished"/classy about a guy with a handkerchief, so I'd recommend one of each (a smaller dedicated snot-rag, & a larger one guaranteed to be snot-free - this becomes an issue if you need it for a blindfold).
Retired Marne Gunny here, ...your spot on! We are obviously cut from the same loaf of bread, so I really like your choice of EDC carry items that are very close to what I carry. I always wear 5.11 jeans so I have extra pockets but don't like my pants being weighted down to expose by "Tactical underwear".....but I was laughing with you and don't really give a flying Fish what others say about our EDC choices and it is a very personal choice and ever evolving. I have an entire Military Career, Private Security background overseas and still to this day I need to make different EDC changes (may need Geiger counter with belt clip soon) to adapt to different scenarios. You had me searching Amazon for some upgrades to my gear. Keep putting out these videos! Semper Fi!
Sir, Thank you for the post. I carry everything on your list either on body or in my pack. Never leave home with out. Will be ordering the 550 cord with keeper. I keep 100ft rolled up in my bag but the keeper makes it much better. The only thing I would add is a small roll of duct tape, and a few tie ties.
I've been a Streamlight fanboy for many years now, but I currently own 5 Fenix flashlights and 2 headlamps and recently bought a lantern. They are all amazing, durable, dependable, and have really long run times!
While I don't agree with the whole "real man edc" idea, I like how you make reference of practical everyday real world instances where edc tools would be useful like a lighter for a birthday party or cord for tying down a tent or canopy. I keep zip ties and emt style folding shears in my edc sling bag and have used them both many many times at my son's soccer games to help secure parents' ez up canopies for them.
If you grind down the tip of a knife blade, you can add a flat screwdriver to your pocket. Now, this will upset many "knife folks" but I figure some might appreciate it. I had one I got at a garage sale as a kid that someone had accidentally busted the tip off. I used it for slot screws and philips head screws. It also still cut as the blade was still a blade. It just didn't do a great job of stabbing...
I got the gerber prybrid ( not the X, no offense) about a month ago. It is amazing! Utility knife blade, has a pry, bottle opener, and a great grip. I’ve used it more often as I’ve got used to having it. At a 20 dollar bill, it’s just tough to beat.
Small EDC fixed blade for pocket or inside the waist band, an S.A.K. Or small multitool of your choice, a flashlight such as Olight I3T 180, Bandana in your pocket, full zippo, a 1L water bottle in backpack, auto dive watch or GSHOCK , a lightweight packable jacket of some kind, credit card/cash.🤘
My EDC - typically revolves around a mindset- Navigation, Fire, Water, Security, Knife / Tools to maintain and anything else you need that day. Now, several things cover various aspects of that mindset but if it does not fulfill one of those things Its not getting carried. Example - Navigation would include a phone, or GPS unit (that I use at work/hunting/photography) or a smart watch, or compass and it would include things like flashlights. A flashlight would also be included in security and tools you need that day/night. My typical EDC is phone, knife, plus some kind of multi tool, flashlight, more often than not a firearm, water bottle, my Garmin watch, wallet, keys. I m a big fan of the Leatherman Signal and it has replaced pretty much my entire low voltage tool kit for work with just the expanded ratchet and bit drivers. I come across crazy fasteners at work and having the ridiculous Leatherman bit kit is essential for work but my work kit also changes from job to job.
I got my first truck recently. And Ive been slowly stocking it with things I could need. Im not a man. A butch woman. But hell I find all of these things extremely useful. I got a pen that sits in my truck, but mostly its for signing last minute birthday cards. But I like the idea of signing with my own pen for receipts. I usually just used their grimy ass pens.
But Im definitely going to get the cords and the water bottle. I have some zip ties in my truck and a hand axe. I had a lighter but smoker friend probably pocketed it because she gone.
I've only just started carrying a flashlight as an[primary] edc in the last 5 years and I've no idea how in my 50 years in this planet I never did before. Whether working or personal time on any given day I may use it more than wherever pocket knife on me. Also, I've not worn a watch, smart or otherwise, in decades but I've been looking into getting a couple analogs. Won't be wearing one at work often as my hands are usually in tight spaces and a watch could hang me up bad. No smart watch for me. Great list, bud.
What i always carry in my pocket is victorinox rambler, which does everything i need on a daily basis. If i think i might need it, i carry nitecore tiki or similar sized flashlight. Its my true EDC, i got also some more powerful light, bigger knife, pen and tape measure in my backpack. Its all i need for my urban civil engineering everyday tasks. When i dont need the backpack, i dont need more tools than the little SAK. On more serious go outs i usually have the backpack with needed tools, so its perfect!

A zippo lighter with a butane insert actually rocks, just make sure that you get one with a little flint stone, way more reliable than the electric ones in wet environments.
Another point to the lighter, you can use it to heat up a flathead screwdriver or a last resort, your knife tip. Had a piece of fender guard come off my car on the highway just dangling there, heat up the screwdriver, punched a hole through the guard and the plastic bumper and run a zip tie to hold it down.
My current EDC is a Glock 43x, spare magazine, Spyderco Tenacious, Streamlight ProTac 1L, Casio Analog Diver watch, wallet with some cash, and a small bleeding control kit in my vehicle.
I carry a Fenix LD11 flashlight, Benchmade 550 Griptilian knife, I have an EDC Maxpedition backpack lighters small amount of food cliff bars and peanut butter, extra socks clothes beanie to keep my head warm, pens notebook, and a bunch of other things. Still to this day my stuff in that backpack evolves as i grow. A phone and a Tri Fold wallet working on the watch thing have an atomic solar / battery powered G shock watch, but looking at a Analog Orient watch. I like what you are talking about my friend need to get up on my paracord or I am looking at survival cord witch is really nice. Love the Flashlight that I carry use it more than my Knife that I carry. My Big knife on my pack is the Gerber LMF infantry and on the other side is a Leatherman Wave Plus. I think i have a pretty good start. I really liked the video God Bless my friend and have a good one.
Got into Boy Scouts at 10 years old and unless I was somewhere it wasnt allowed, I have never once been caught without a pocketknife. I actually currently carry that Milwaukee knife and love it.
I used to think needing to carry a flashlight was actually pretty stupid but as time went on I eventually came around and ended up buying a Nebo slim mini which I love. It's compact, lightweight, and pretty darn bright. And as for fire starting stuff I started carrying a Ferro rod and a 410 shotshell stuffed with a Vaseline cotton ball on a ball chain around my neck as a backup to my lighter.
@grayssoncarl5020 Preps for bugging in will do you no good if you live in a city and have no way to defend yourself. People will come for your shit quickly when they're desperately searching for food. Euros can hate on America all they want, but I wouldn't trade any of my guns for some false sense of security or inability to protect myself or family.
@grayssoncarl5020 I didn't say that's the reason, let alone main reason, may hate America. Only that most Euros love to jump in and shit on us for our guns. I know it's near impossible for y'all, which is exactly why our Founders created the 2nd Amendment - So no one can take away our ability to protect ourselves in any circumstances. No real prepper goes full tactical, but understating the need for weapons is also a mistake. I'm not really a prepper per se, I'm just a redneck who grew up hunting and surrounded by guns. It's part of my culture, coming from the country. I don't have to pick between calibers and there's no reason to reduce it down to a .22 and 9mm unless you plan on bugging out and have to carry that .22 ammo. In which case I'd still disagree and say to get a folding 9mm carbine and only stock 1 type of ammo. But I don't need to choose between my .22, .223/5.56, .270, .308, .50 cal rifles or my .380, .22, .45, 9mm, or 10mm pistols. I think, in America, we're more likely to see social collapse/civil war before some calm, stable, "hard times" where you'll have a chance to sit in your house eating freeze dried food for 20 f'n years. That's naive as hell, IMO.
Olight I3T is more handy, slightly smaller than I5T. Powered by AAA batteries, power of approximately 170-180lm is sufficient for everyday use. And you can use it as a headlamp, it is lighter than the I5T
Good video. Starting camp fires on windy beaches has made me appreciate the value of a jet lighter, like the more expensive refillable cigar lighters. You can get a cheaper Primus one at a camping kit stores. I bought mine for around $25, it's still going strong 15 years later, and they blow the socks off a Bic lighter. I use a thin Olight (with rechargeable batteries) almost every day, but if I need more it's a slightly larger tactical or Maglite. I've got a Celestron Firecell and a couple other multiple use power tanks that are combo flashlight, handwarmer, and power tank.
As far as pens and journals go.... you should look at the rite on rain pad + Fisher rite on rain bolt action pen .... they are the shiznit ... as is the edc 27 ... love that light
Great video. I highly recommend adding that bandana. So many everyday and survival uses for something that takes up so little space… and it never looks out of place. Send that Leatherman Juice into the company… under warranty (which I. believe is 25 years), they will replace those scales and tune up the whole unit. I think you’ll pay shipping and be without it for a week or 2 but, it’s worth it.
This is the second video from Marine X I've e watched and enjoyed both. I like that you stick with your own needs and likes and don't love everything EDC that comes out every week. No one needs all this stuff! Pick up what you need when it applies to your tasks. Keep up the good content.
I am the daughter of a line of military men so this was what I was taught since I was a child. I do carry a larger multitool because I use it so frequently doing work on farms however. That emergency cash in my wallet has made a tow truck driver come, get me out of the ditch, and then he said he won't report anything if I am not making a claim on my insurance and we parted ways. I also always have a hankey as they are invaluable for runny noses to horse training. I assure you it has a use in my pocket.
Great basic edc list and thank yiu for keeping it simple and affordable. I absolutely hate gear snops who put price over pratical use when it comes to edc. As always great video!
Former Army officer here but I subscribed. In wintertime my EDC is in my pockets but in summertime it's in a small fanny pack. Of course some items are on my person at all times. There's also a difference for me between urban and outdoor EDC. Some suggested items are: A loud whistle carried on your person. It attracts attention of rescuers but also scares of robbers or worse. Rescuers of course love it when you draw attention to them and people with bad intentions hate it when attention is drawn to them. Give a loud whistle to each of your kids so they can signal it they get scared or lost. I have a (metal) flash drive on my key chain with my personal and medical information. Of course without a password since emergency services have to be able to just plug it in and read. Just be careful what you put on there. I very much agree on the cash thing but I suggest a decoy wallet. I have my wallet with cash and my bank cards but I carry one cheap wallet with daily cash and fake bank cards in my pocket. If I get robbed and they want my wallet I take out the decoy one. Throw it on the ground to the side and when they pick it up I run and blow the whistle. But even if they are able to get a quick glance they see cards that look like bank cards (but with no personal information) and they see some cash so they are satisfied thinking the robbery went well. Small zip ties. Just have a few of them somewhere near you. They make for an easy and quick fix allowing you to do the permanent repair job at home.
I always carry my Ontario Rat 1, handcuff keys, and a set of elevator access keys for work. Then I add a Leatherman Supertool 300 EOD during the weekend and after work.
Always on me. Esee 5 on belt. Tops smk 2.5 on neck. Bic and pocket size roll gorilla tape in pocket. Phone/ wallet. 30foot paracord as hat band. Altoids tin with birthday candle, sewing needle, band-aids, hydrocortisone cream.
16:26 duuuude, the usb-C rechargeable AA battery is so good! I bought this flashlight (definitely because I needed it, not because I was caught up in influencer hype.. 👀) a year ago and I was pretty pleasantly surprised how good it was. That, plus the olight open pro (again, definitely a need and certainly not caught up in influencer hype 😬) and I can’t recommend that one as much for the price, but it is by far my most used flashlight. Fits perfect in the pencil holder looking section on my jacket’s chest pocket, and the light is on the clip so I have hands free light without sticking my other olight on my hat. It’s also the smoothest ballpoint pen I own, though it’s a little heavy/thick for taking notes in school
I really enjoyed the video and totally agree with your message. I wear a WAZOO Cache Belt and it's able to let me carry, effortlessly, without thought, most of the items that you mentioned. My key chain has the rest. I've been carrying a Victorinox Swiss Champ for almost 50 years and I can't begin to count the number of times it saved me a long trip back to my tool cart as I worked for 42 years as an Industrial Maintenance Tech in a HUGE manufacturing plant. I like the way you phrased this thesis as "to get shit done" and not as an end of times zombie attack sort of scenario. I just can't imagine leaving the house without most of the gear you mentioned. My oldest and dearest friends frequently ask me, "OK, how many knives you carryin' today" or they'll say "I know you got at least 3 flashlights on ya, so can I borrow one for a minute?" and don't get me started on the ribbings I've taken over my SAKs over the years. My usual comeback is to hand them the tweezers and magnifying glass and tell them to go take a piss!
Excellent clutch of EDC items for the Dudes. The Swiss Card is an easy add to any wallet that I will endorse here for all the real men out there whether in the outback or office.
Attaboy X!! Fantastic video! I agree with everything you talked about. All those items have importance in many cases all through the day. And a fidget toy? That’s what my Baby Banter or mini Pyrite is for!! Merry Christmas to you and the X clan, and Happy New Year!
Attaboy! I remember it with the acronym WHIPKIT W allet H orology (time) (watch) I nstrument for writing (pen/pencil/pad) P hone (power source as you mentioned) K nife I llumination (flashlight) T ool (multitool) I like the cordage and waterbottle ideas. Good shit Sir
A microfiber hank, like Mighty Hanks brand, is invaluable in the car when you need to clean your glasses to drive safely, otherwise they're a pain to carry on your person.
A tradesman once told me" Always cut away from you when using a knife" Best advice ever. Keep all the tools away from kids.. Be aware of people around you when using dangerous tools
UZI manufactured pens are a great price and have many different functioning versions. Also my Fenix E28R V2 rechargeable torch has 1700lumens, a strobe mode, lock mode, and can attach to your cap with its multi pocket and cap clip slider 👌. It's longer and the butt of the torch is serrated so can be used in a self defence scenario.
As I wear suit to work, I like to keep things small so they on me. I found a skinny Batt Bank to charge my phone as I go. I use a medical light in my suit jacket. Along with my wallet I keep a $20 & $50 note in my mobile phone case. I keep a small ferro rod on my keyring as you never know when you need to get a BBQ going. As I have done there is always a pen in my pocket & another better one in my suit coat.
I like those solar powered battery packs. It seems like a redundant power source but that is the point. A head lamp or a neck light is a hands free lighting option.
Excellent rundown of EVERYDAY (not end of the world BS) reasons to carry these items. My list might be slightly different then yours, but we carry for the same reasons.
I'm a big advocate of wearing a traditional, analog watch. I know Apple watches are neat and all, but for one, they wear out and can't be fixed, they will eventually age out with the OS and will eventually brick, but a traditional watch will always be able to be fixed. Also, when in an office atmosphere, when you are talking to someone and they check their phone or Apple Watch, you could be seen as someone not paying attention to the conversation and checking out while in that conversation. A traditional watch does basically one thing, tell the time. If you check your phone, you can be doing a million things, and just shows that you are not engaged in that conversation. Traditional watches are just better looking, and with a good GADA watch, you can wear it in every occasion.
I find it weird when grown men don’t 🎉 carry a knife. I personally never leave the house without at least my knife, flashlight, watch, and pistol w/ reload
@@evaneason6906 I carry a lighter in my bag, I tend to carry a disposable bic due to its ability to float, waterproof and doesn’t have fuel that will evaporate. Of course that’s just personal preference. Plus you can wrap some hemp twine around it.
I don't use a watch because the time/date is on my phone, and and I don't like jewelry. I don't use a flashlight even though we actually need them for work, but I refuse to carry one, but 2 knives, both for less that 40 bucks combined, a full pair of metal knuckles, an old school 38 special {50+ years old or older} and a speed strip. Nothing more. My wallet is a cheap 20 dollar thin wallet. I smoke so I carry a cheap lighter and I have a Grateful Dead Keychain on my 4 keys I carry lol. I have a bunch of keys, but they are in my bag unless I need them. That includes work keys.
ATTA BOI!!!!!!! It aint the prettiest but I edc my bic with duct tape round it, as well as my 2c maglite which also has some electric tape. That way, if I need fire, tinder and accelerant is attatched, and if I'm doing repairs with the light, tape's handy (plus it keeps the batteries from tryina freeze). I also carry a large bandana, either headwrap or secondary (hair's gotta get out my face so I can do stuff).
I would really include some hankie or bandana. It's really usefull, at least for me, because I’m using it much more than some cordage or multitool, so for me it's higher on the list to have it than these items. And also some boo-boo kit, but that's only for convenience.
Hey Marine, imma old salty submariner here. I dig yer vids so far, im a very low tech guy so prolly wont do the battery bank. I agree with the prybar thing ( at least one that fits in those tiny edc pouches). Ive carried a leatherman wave in a leather shealth i made with a ferro rod attached. The spine of the saw on the wave gets damn good sparks. Defiantly the flashlight both items i use everyday. I think also having at least a boo boo kit , even better trama kit is important also. Especially with me cause im a accident prone ol' fart. Dual purpose items such as chapstick ( chapped lips, fire extender) that doesnt take up too much space in yer pocket is a good idea, i also carry on a paracord lanyard that goes around my belt a small signal mirror ( signaling, get something outta yer eyes ect), one of those cheap whistles that has thhe small mignifier lens, bubble compass, thermometer), and a second ferro rod . 1 is none two is one. The biggest thing with all gear is USE THEM. especially if you are not familiar with it. Good vid.
I have a tactical pen that has most of the stuff you mention in one nice package. To compensate the rest, that all goes into my med ankle kit (modified). But yes, men do need to have all this and then some. Boy scouts made sure that was engrained in me lol. Great video.
Definitely agree on the smart watch deal. Ive had 3 or 4 so far and i always go back to my analog watch. Smart watches never last long enough, and then i have to remember to charge it while i sleep so it doesnt even do the job i bought it for. Although, I've been looking into getting a garmin smart watch with solar. If that watch doesnt work out for me, i will just stick to my fancy mechanical watch or my regular gshock. As for everything else. I edc a multitool, leatherman arc, leatherman has a 30 or 35% discount for military. A django a10 adapt wallet with its own multitool and some paracord attached. My android phone and lastly depending on where i go and what state im in, i concealed carry either a canik tp9 elite or a p365. For my car i have my camping box in the back, so it has a lighter, sleaping bag, tent, blankets, msi stove and pot set, fixed blade knife, small flashlight, battery rope light, large flashlight, ect. I also have a first aid kit, a pair of knockoff leatherman rescue raptors, small fire extinguisher, jack and full set of tools, and more. For small flashlights i would look into the rovyvon e8. Its a dual power source light so it has a rechargeable battery built in but you can also use a AAA.
I kind of fell into this collection of items and frankly, I am all the better for it. The only thing I carry that isn't on this list is a bandana but that serves me more as a handkerchief than anything haha. Awesome video!
I actually have all that in my EDC pouch, including an analog pocket watch. I have a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle all the time as well. I have a little bit more than just that stuff, but yeah, those are things every man should carry everyday. FYI, I just subscribed to your channel.
I’ve seen your videos here and there but recently started binge watching them and subscribed. I appreciate your no-nonsense perspective. As for flashlights, you should really give the rovyvon aurora a28 a try. I was skeptical of it at firs, but now it lives in my pocket. The two button interface, the magnetic clip, the side lights, and usb-c charging make it incredibly functional. I clip it to a hat as a headlamp when I’m taking out the trash at night. When I didn’t have my hat, I clipped it to my shirt and put the side light on to illuminate the area in front of me. When I was traveling and found myself walking on a dark road, I had the blinking red light clipped to my bag so cars would see me. When my parents needed their kitchen cabinets adjusted I magnetically clipped the light to the hinges to illuminate the area I was working on. The moonlight mode is great for avoiding waking my wife in the middle of the night. And the high power mode can illuminate the tree line when I wanna see what’s out there.
You don’t know how much you use 550 cord til you have it. I’ve used it for all kinds of shit. Hell, I got some pink 550 cord and I’ve made pacifier leashes for my daughter when hers broke. I’ve used it to fix key chains. I’ve used it to fix a cracked or broke handle on a knife. It’s very useful.
On my person every day- 9mm pistol, extra mag, pocket knife, flashlight, lighter, Gerber multitool, mace spray, bandana, sunglasses, sharpie marker. In my truck I have a "get home" bag (large fanny pack) with some duplicates of aforementioned items plus larger full tang sheath knife, paracord, med kit with tourniquet, Lifestraw, collapsible water bottle, chocolate energy bar, compass, radio, cash, leather gloves, N91 mask, mini solar charger, small bolt cutter.
Certainly one of the better EDC posts I've seen! Everyone's going to have their opinions and things they like to have. Though I did pause when he mentioned fidget toys lol
I love analog watches. My favorite outdoor watch is the bertuchi titanium field watch. Not super expensive but looks and works great. Also have a few casios as well. In my kit is paracord but lately i have used more #36 bankline.
I like your straightforward informative style, although I am not certain when you are being ironic, which is amusing. A very sensible list. A tactical pen with a glass breaker works well. Love the Var. Super smart stroping with a watch strap. I wear a police wristlight at night (& always pocket a flashlight) when carrying a side arm without a tactical light. The light works amazingly well with my CZ 75 D PCR Compact always my Conceal Carry License. & money. No lighter (Put my Dupont, ping, away with my pipes & humidors, miss that smoke.). Use waterproof storm matches, practical, but not suave enough to light her cigarette.
My usual EDC is a brass/stainless steel pakastani pocket watch handed down from my father. Old and holds up, a zippo lighter, circular mirror, a Nixon watch, I should snag some cordage and a good backup battery.
Very funny and informative! I think a bandana or hank is extremely important (an actual rag hank, nothing fancy). My hands are constantly wet or dirty, and it's good to have a sweat rag or snot rag when you need it! 😂 Also, for any glasses wearers out there it's important to have a microfiber cloth. Every pocket knife comes with a free glasses cleaner nowadays! 😂
I own the jx fat guy holster and I own a Vedder lighttuck kydex holster and I feel more comfortable with the Vedder one. I need to go back and work on the jx tactical. Good video though, thanks for sharing.
Tops baja 3.0 , pack of menthol cigarettes and a lighter . F a watch I always know what time it is and I pay attention to the sun ,moon and stars so I know where north , south, east and west is at all times 😂
It's just a good habit lol
Before I change/shower at night my pockets get emptied, in first in last out order, on the small table with my coffee maker.
My work tool bag is, err, very precise where things go because-
I can reach in blind and grab/return anything.
Visually I can tell if something isn't there.
Where it is after that? Phhhhh. Usually pretty close.
Usually lol
I love you guys. Sound just like me. All thought I have a knife on my waist band while I sleep. I'm semi psychotic 😂
Keys, wallet, knife, gun, flashlight and lighter is part of the daily attire. My bare minimum.
As a dad to a daughter i found myself always carrying a hair tie on my wrist.😂😂
@@InkedCarpenter1776 🤣 i forgot about those, i have them everywhere!!!
There is no way i can leave the house without at least one extra hairtie.
@@Swearengen1980I carried ties on my shifter for years.
It’s because of you I started carrying my edc on my person, car, back pack, and work. Thank you!
Atta boy. Here we are a year later and let's see what changed for me in that time
Knife: I generally prefer full size(3.5in) or larger and I'm a fan of crossbar locks Still the same choice I just have a few more options.
Pen: I've settled on Zebra pens for mix of quality and lower price since I have had some stolen by coworkers currently use a modified Sarasa with an ultra fine tip ink barrel. I keep a stash of dollar store note pads around. My preferred pen is The Zebra F701 with an Ohto .3mm tip barrel
Watch: I'd prefer a water resistant Timex expedition however I'm wearing a Samsung watch. Still the same
Flashlight: this one I am all over the place I prefer a light with multiple modes and preferably a moonlight mode. Like the Weltool T1pro
Multitool: currently I'm carrying a Leatherman surge that has served me well with it's 2 knife blades, scissors, pliers and bit kit. No change here yet
Wallet and cash: I'm using a "ridge" like wallet to carry a few cards and a money clip for cash which I usually keep a 20 dollar bill or 2 just in case. Still the same
Cordage: I keep some 550 and 1100 cord in my vehicle too. Still doing this too
Lighter: This another undecided choice for me I carry and prefer a butane torch and I have a habit of buying value packs of Bic and/or Scripto (do you know the Scripto hack?) lighters that I keep a few in various jackets and in our vehicles. I like Bics for "just in case " it runs out of fuel I can still use the flint for a spark.
Battery bank: much like you I have them all over the place too along with a charger cord or 2 for phones and flashlights. Unchanged
Water bottle: I prefer steel water bottles because worse case I can boil said water for a variety of reasons such as purification, cooking, ect. This is still the same even though I switched to a Klean Kanteen
Hat: Preferably a baseball style which has a bill stiff enough to support a small flashlight for hands free operation, provide shade for my eyes on sunny days, and as a handle to fan flames as I'm building a campfire which can happen often while I'm fishing throughout the year in Delaware. Still the same even though I have looked at a few boonie hats
Gloves: I always have a pair or 2 of work gloves in my vehicles for duties such as collecting firewood, changing a tire during cold weather, and other tasks.
I concur
Watch, flashlight, pry and cutting tool are my 4 most used EDC items. Being able to improvise is key to getting the most out of your EDC and slimming it down to be a practical on person carry
My first visit. It was very informative so thanks for covering this topic. All men should see this.
Great video. I have had people act like the stuff I carry is too much at work....then I get the question, "Hey, can I use your flashlight, knife, multitool, etc..."
As an Eagle Scout, I still have a problem finding a watch that I can stand.
Fenix lights are awesome. Love mine, imho better than petzl (at least in range under 200 $$ / €€) ...
Benchmade sells a snubbed bugout
I got the gerber prybrid ( not the X, no offense) about a month ago. It is amazing! Utility knife blade, has a pry, bottle opener, and a great grip. I’ve used it more often as I’ve got used to having it. At a 20 dollar bill, it’s just tough to beat.
I love it. Wish it came with a clip
Spot on with my carry. I also have a pair of Mechanix gloves in my back pocket 99% of the time
I was thinking the same things about gloves
I carry gloves too to avoid leaving my finger prints
Small EDC fixed blade for pocket or inside the waist band, an S.A.K. Or small multitool of your choice, a flashlight such as Olight I3T 180, Bandana in your pocket, full zippo, a 1L water bottle in backpack, auto dive watch or GSHOCK , a lightweight packable jacket of some kind, credit card/cash.🤘
Lip balm is always in my fifth pocket. Many uses.
Go for a pocket watch😂
@@texmex8220 i could see me getting one lol
What i always carry in my pocket is victorinox rambler, which does everything i need on a daily basis. If i think i might need it, i carry nitecore tiki or similar sized flashlight. Its my true EDC, i got also some more powerful light, bigger knife, pen and tape measure in my backpack. Its all i need for my urban civil engineering everyday tasks.
When i dont need the backpack, i dont need more tools than the little SAK. On more serious go outs i usually have the backpack with needed tools, so its perfect!

Was digging through my pants and bag, don't think I missed anything, but it's late. Ah! keys, that one is important.
Excellent video! Protecting the “twenty toes” potential scenario is paramount!
A zippo lighter with a butane insert actually rocks, just make sure that you get one with a little flint stone, way more reliable than the electric ones in wet environments.
All great items. I’d have an EDC pistol. Also like a few others mentioned a small med kit/IFAK/tourniquet kit with a few chest seals. Good stuff!
@grayssoncarl5020 you sound like a smart fellow.
@grayssoncarl5020 you're just proving me right.
Wait ‘til you get to my advanced age - my eyesight is shite and I use my flashlights on nearly an hourly basis.
Nitecore EDC is *_the best_* EDC flashlight. Hands down. They made something really special.
Thanks much
I am the daughter of a line of military men so this was what I was taught since I was a child.
Great list. The most important things I carry everyday are my leatherman wave and a good handkerchief.
Most important EDC is a sandwich maker to walk around behind you to remind you where you left random items from your EDC
🤣
Just starting to go down the edc rabbit hole. Appreciate your content!
The watch that I use is an Echo drive. Classic look, simple, and solar powered so i never have to think about replacing a battery
Rechargeable hand warmers are nice and can be used as a power bank.
Cigar and bourbon. That's a real man right there.
Fidget toys are my favorite
Attaboy! I remember it with the acronym WHIPKIT
W allet
H orology (time) (watch)
I nstrument for writing (pen/pencil/pad)
P hone (power source as you mentioned)
K nife
I llumination (flashlight)
T ool (multitool)
I like the cordage and waterbottle ideas.
Good shit Sir
A microfiber hank, like Mighty Hanks brand, is invaluable in the car when you need to clean your glasses to drive safely, otherwise they're a pain to carry on your person.
Flat flashlights are superior. Just feels better in the front pocket
A tradesman once told me" Always cut away from you when using a knife" Best advice ever. Keep all the tools away from kids.. Be aware of people around you when using dangerous tools
4pm eastern time. The watch I use is a Seiko Kinetic. Thank You for the EDC list.
UZI manufactured pens are a great price and have many different functioning versions. Also my Fenix E28R V2 rechargeable torch has 1700lumens, a strobe mode, lock mode, and can attach to your cap with its multi pocket and cap clip slider 👌. It's longer and the butt of the torch is serrated so can be used in a self defence scenario.
scissors that come apart into 2 blades. it's so handy, and often good to grip dangerous objects
If you're using your phone for a flashlight the battery will go dead and you will have neither! Well said man on all points. Happy new year.
Grandpa, I have flashlight, knife, zippo (don't smoke anything), chapstick, cash, Ruger SR with spare mag.
@@evaneason6906 I carry a lighter in my bag, I tend to carry a disposable bic due to its ability to float, waterproof and doesn’t have fuel that will evaporate. Of course that’s just personal preference. Plus you can wrap some hemp twine around it.
@@AreUmygrandson I changed the original cotton insert with a butane plastic insert. It doesn't evaporate now.
Same
I don't use a watch because the time/date is on my phone, and and I don't like jewelry.
Just happen upon your video and have to say “well done!” I carry everything on your list already and agree with it 100 %
Hey Marine, imma old salty submariner here.
Attaboy X! I wear glasses and keep a Mighty Hank on me with the microfiber side for cleaning the lenses.
I EDC the Workpro buttonlock. Super cheap, disposable blades, and easier legal defense in Europe.
Check out some Sofirn lights Rovy is good but sofirn has it dialed bro - Wuben is doing some greay innovation too with the x3
I am a woman that carries edc and i totally agree.
You nailed it. Also, having a bandana on you can really come in clutch depending on the kind of shit you get yourself into
On my person every day- 9mm pistol, extra mag, pocket knife, flashlight, lighter, Gerber multitool, mace spray, bandana, sunglasses, sharpie marker.
Thanks you are right, the only thing I have a problem is. I wear sweat pants a lot and try carrying edc can be problem, like weighing your pants
Very funny and informative!
I think a bandana or hank is extremely important (an actual rag hank, nothing fancy). My hands are constantly wet or dirty, and it's good to have a sweat rag or snot rag when you need it! 😂
Also, for any glasses wearers out there it's important to have a microfiber cloth.
Cool channel, I have been carrying this for years. They come in handy all the time.
Tops baja 3.0 , pack of menthol cigarettes and a lighter . F a watch I always know what time it is and I pay attention to the sun ,moon and stars so I know where north , south, east and west is at all times 😂
