My Fathers rule on cash was to NEVER carry any in your wallet. Keep it your front pocket of choice and always keep the small bills on top so that's all that people see when you have to pull out. The change goes in the opposite pocket and thats what you use until it runs out. If you can you put a twenty under the sole of your shoe...Both if possible
That's exactly what I do when travelling. A lot of places worth visiting have many pickpockets about, and you don't want everyone to know exactly how much cash you have on you. Additionally, the front pocket is much harder to pick than the back one.
it's a solid list I agree with it and I'll explain my choices Knife: I generally prefer full size(3.5in) or larger and I'm a fan of crossbar locks Pen: I've settled on Zebra pens for mix of quality and lower price since I have had some stolen by coworkers currently use a modified sarasa with an ultra fine tip ink barrel. I keep a stash of dollar store note pads around. Watch: I'd prefer a water resistant timex expedition however I'm wearing a samsung watch. Flashlight: this one I am all over the place I prefer a light with multiple modes and preferably a moonlight mode. I also prefer a clip I can attach to my hat (which is always part of my edc) for hands free operation. Then there's batteries or rechargeable with a battery option I can just drop in a new one and keep rolling if I drain a rechargeable then its out of action for however long it takes to recharge it. Multitool: currently I'm carrying a leatherman surge that has served me well with it's 2 knife blades, scissors, pliers and bit kit.. Wallet and cash: I'm using a "ridge" like wallet to carry a few cards and a money clip for cash which I usually keep a 20 dollar bill or 2 just in case. Cordage: I keep some 550 and 1100 cord in my vehicle too. Lighter: This another undecided choice for me I carry and prefer a butane torch and I have a habit of buying value packs of bic and/or scripto (do you know the scripto hack?) lighters that I keep a few in various jackets and in our vehicles. I like bics for "just in case " it runs out of fuel I can still use the flint for a spark. Battery bank: much like you I have them all over the place too along with a charger cord or 2 for phones and flashlights. Water bottle: I prefer steel water bottles because worse case I can boil said water for a variety of reasons such as purification, cooking, ect. Hat: Preferably a baseball style which has a bill stiff enough to support a small flashlight for hands free operation, provide shade for my eyes on sunny days, and as a handle to fan flames as I'm building a campfire which can happen often while I'm fishing throughout the year in Delaware. Gloves: I always have a pair or 2 of work gloves in my vehicles for duties such as collecting firewood, changing a tire during cold weather, and other tasks. This is my lineup. What do you think?

Some extras i have in the car: - Headache tables, nothing like having your head exploding and no meds I also have some other meds - Bandana, just in case there is a fire and i need to cover my mouth - Emergency sowing kit - Just some needles, thread and button, this is for when i get to an interview/function and my button pops off - Mint Gum - To help with coffee breath when at a interview/function On me, i carry: Pocket Knife, Pen, Flashlight, small multitool, prybar, bandana/rag
I use a 9v led flashlight. one battery last forever. In addition, I carry a 3ft measuring tape, magnet, magnesium fire starter, pepper spray. all in a small crossbody bag. I pack them easy to grab and practice taking things in and out in a flash so if the emergency arises, I'm not fumbling with anything.
Pretty much what I keep on the daily for EDC but I have an extra item that could be very useful. I keep a HAM radio as well. But any kind of FRS, GMRS radio will do. Most HAM radios will also work on those services as well. I am a licensed Armature Radio Operator with the call sign K4EBB. But FRS needs no license and GMRS also requires a license but no testing, just pay the fee and your good to go. In a grid down situation an analog radio requires no power grid for communications. And another item that could be useful as well is a pocket SHORTWAVE RADIO to receive information in a grid down situation. Just make sure it has a SSB function so you can listen in on the HAM bands in HF ( HIGH FREQUINCY ) modes
I agree. Excellent list! My state has virtually no knife laws. I carry a decent fixed blade, a Tops HOG 4.5 in a Red Hill kydex. I carry a Leatherman Wave+, and yes, the scissors are awesome. Zip ties to finger nail clippers, the scissors come in handy. I got tired of needing a flashlight to find a flashlight, so I carry a Fenix PD36R. My watch is a Casio GShock Mudmaster. Indestructible, functional. I also have a backpack I carry with me everywhere. It is a Mystery Ranch Two Day Assault. It has everything I need to spend an unexpected night in the woods or away from home, and useful things from an IFAK to phone charger, notepad, knife sharpener, batteries, p-cord, a folding saw, a Nalgene and carabiner, a small screwdriver set for fixing glasses or other small items, ect My wife calls it my purse. She makes fun sometimes, but it has saved our asses. When she gets a migraine, she isn't laughing when I am able to just pull out a little first aid kit and grab some Excedrin. I was a Boy Scout, and I have tried to be prepared for most situations since I was a boy. I started with a Swiss Army knife and a Timex when I was about 7. When any of my friends need something, from tweezers to a Sharpie, they ask me first.
As a mechanic I use a flashlight in my pocket constantly. I use a Streamlight that is a really good brand, has rubber on the end so I can hold it in my mouth and not chip my teeth.
Good list. I also carry a chapstick and a small pillbox (with Benadryl, ibuprofen and excedrin). A multitool with a blade is good, so instead of the redundancy of another folding knife, I like a small fixed blade for self defense. My favorite is the Kabar TDI Investigator. It’s very concealable, comfortable & gets the job done. Also, with a bunch of stuff in pockets, it’s helpful to wear pants with extra pockets like 5.11 tactical jeans (extra hip pocket on both sides).
I would only add a minimal first aid kit-bandaids, etc. but with 2 aspirin in case of heart attack or just pain, inflammation and I days' supply of any essential medications you take. A handkerchief is a great multitasker-cleaning, drying, wiping, first aid, etc. Men of my Dad's generation (1920-2000) carried all this as routine-a pocket knife, handkerchief, lighter, penlight, watch, wallet, pen, keys, business cards/paper, leather belt and neck tie (good as emergency cordage, tourniquet, etc) and, when legal, a piece.
Good EDC items! One thing that I carry that alot of people don't, Is an Ankle IFAK. In the little kit I have a TQ, Sharpie, Z-Fold Gauze, 2 Chest Seals, Quic-Clot Gauze, and a few small Bandages. I feel that everyone should know at least how to use a Tourniquet and have one either on their person or in their vehicles. You never know if you will pull up on the scene of an accident or anything else that would require some way to stop major bleeding. Always good to have. It can save your life or someone else's life!
@@VishalRaoOnTH-cam I would research the actual pouch that fits your needs then fill it with supplies for your individual needs. North American rescue is a good place for medical supplies, if you carry a firearm the CAT7 TQ is a must have. Sourcing the medical supplies separately is always cheaper than buying a complete kit.
Great Video ! My digital watch is set to 24-Hour mode with a NATO/EDC watchband (have to break both pins on the watch to lose it) and a Suunto button compass ! Modified my Zebra F-701 pen to use the Fisher Space Pen refill. T. Lipinski
I suggest a watch with a barometer, altimeter and thermometer. I like to fish and hunt and that really helps. A $40 Casio does all that. plus timer, stopwatch, alarm, etc.
Get a watch with minute and hour hands. You can use it as a compass if you're out in the woods lost or whatever. Although I honestly use the Sun to find my East to West more than I use my watch face to find North to South 😅. Which is why I went with a smart watch. Now I can track my sleep, my heart rate, my step count, it has a GPS feature too if I want to track my path, it tells me the weather, gives me notifications from my apps and messages/calls, I can trigger my camera as well, it can also help determine time of death if anything were to happen to me. But I always keep a cheap watch with a face in my EDC bag just in case.
Good video. I'm with you on everything here, and it's nice to see someone else think about cordage. I used to carry 550 but it was just too bulky for any real usable length. Now I use commercial Singer sewing machine bobbins which hold about 50 feet of 250 pound test braided fishing line. It's just a little thicker than the guts of 550 but about half as strong as 550 in a much smaller package that's about 1.5 inches in diameter and a half inch thick bobbin. Fits on my keychain easily. Keep up the great work.
I do agree with all of your choices... myself I do carry a crkt provok.... heavy but quick deployment, pepper spray... "A little hotsauce can go a long way", a small streamlight is better than the olight's... "I used a olight for less than a year and it started giving out.. my stream light is going on 3 years now", a analog watch, and a leatherman with my ccw carry and a spair mag, as well as a eagle torch. I keep a bag in my car at all times that has a complete first aid kit extra set of clothing with a few food bars, 2 bottles of water with a empty water bladder and a small battery pack with solar panels built in, as well as some cordage and a fixed blade knife. Most items in the bag is vacuumed sealed to compress items to it's smallest components.
I really prefer usb-rechargeable flashlights for edc, because you can always have a full battery by just topping it off. For keychains, the Nitecore Tube is great… super lightweight, great UI, different colors, $12. For a larger edc (18650 size), the Olight Warrior Mini 2 is great (it’s a hybrid edc-tactical light with a nice deep carry clip). I prefer the aluminum over the titanium for the lighter weight. Olight has sales every month or two, so always wait for a sale!

One item that I recently added to my EDC, was inexpensive blade utility knife for cutting, which saves my primary knife from dulling the blade (paper/cardboard). I like the Leatherman Skeletool, gives you access to a blade without having to open the whole tool.
Yeah, milwaukee 48 22 1505 razor knife with bottle opener and bit holder goes everywhere with me. If I need a longer blade for cutting food I grab the folder.
I just use my primary knife for that stuff, since the whole point of a primary knife is to use it often. Otherwise why are you carrying it. Then you get good at resharpening it, which is a skill to learn in itself.
Holders for utility blades come in small key-chain sizes. I carry one made out of titanium. Don’t have to use my $340 Microtech to break down heavy cardboard or loan it out when I can offer my utility blade instead. Also, if you travel by air and don’t want to check baggage, just take the holder and get a blade at your destination.
Perhaps its the old guy in me, but two things I edc aside from the things you’ve listed, are a handkerchief and at least a dose or two of Tylenol. The handkerchief has multiple uses in addition to it’s obvious one. And the Tylenol is obviously for pain and/or fever reducer. If you’re injured or you get a headache, not having to wait until you get home before you can treat it is great.
What a good video! A lot of younger men should watch this. Also, your list is super solid. Two additional things that I EDC are chapstick (in addition to helping your lips, it can be used as fire tender) and a pocket-sized container with my daily meds. Thanks again for sharing your videos.
Great advice! I'll add a few. 1. If knives are legally iffy where you are, check out collapsible batons. 2. If you're someplace you don't know well, a compass will keep you headed in the right direction. The tiny ones are worthless. Get one a couple of inches across. 3. When you buy a flashlight, consider getting one with a dim 'moonlight' mode. It'll let you navigate dark streets without attracting attention.
I just picked up a khaki vest that has like 10 pockets that are inside and outside. It can be worn in the hot months and it makes concealing any pistol very easy! I think these vests are going to get more popular, it beats wearing a man purse! None of the stores had them in stock so I had to order it online but got it in 2 days!
A Good Wool Blanket is a must have car item for me. It will keep you warm not attract attention and it can be used as a stretcher in an emergency. In my pocket I carry 18 ft. Of tarred bank line and a duck tape wrapped BIC lighter in a cloth jewelry bag. The no. 36 bank line has a strength of abt. 250 -300 lbs so it can be very useful in many applications. Other things I carry are multi tool, wallet and a phone. These items check all the boxes for me. Thanks for reading this. 16:03

You've got a great channel and I always like to see my fellow Leathernecks thriving in this space. The one thing that I've recently changed in my EDC, due to receiving it as a Christmas gift from my wife, is the watch. I have forever worn a Casio ProTrek for hiking but now I have the apple watch and I really like all of the fitness stuff + weather + stock quotes, etc, but I know it is dependent on the net being up. I'll probably just put the ProTrek in my vehicle bag just in case. Looking forward to diving deeper into your content. Keep Rockin'
When I was a youngster, late 70s early 80s. Long before the term EDC ever was a thing. My grandfather taught me every man. Should carry a pocket knife, a lighter and a handkerchief (bandana). So many EDC people leave out the importance of the simple lighter. Being able to easily ly make fire is a massive importance. People also tend to overlook the limitless uses of a bandana. From sweat rag to sweatband to wound care to make shift carrying pouch to first stage water filter.
outside of a few differences, this pretty much covers what I carry daily. In the gear, I carry I balance between price and performance. I also know that the different capabilities within the same gear type will sway me one way or the other. Due to where I traveled for work I had to tailor my EDC to both urban and rural areas. While Nalgene bottles are great pieces of kit. You would need a nesting cup to boil water. I have a 1qt keen canteen stainless steel bottle that gives me more capabilities. I went with a solid tac pen that could be used for defense along with a window-breaking tip on it. The one area where I downgraded was in my single-blade folder. Too many of my nicer knives are now the property of the local police. They wanted it so they took it. Besides if I have to use my knife for self-defense am I really going to want it back. The only things I would add are a set of polarized safety glasses, a pair of clear safety glasses, and a handcuff key. Anything else should be added to bigger kits like a BOB or a GHB.
Been there , traveled around , .😁😃😳🐶. why I carry" throw aways." Leave my buck at home, (to debone the turkey for thanksgiving) a $20 carbon steel works fine, home depo, walmart , ozark tral. Army surplus store, Found clone cold steel Spartans on wish for $20 . at 1am use burn card , geen dot ect , be patient they use us mail. You can't peel a cucumber with a dull knife, (mom always said , eat your vegetables.) SC gave it back, just be honest and get frisked. Cleveland Ohio disarms you, then sends you home. Not a fan of tracking technoligy, 😳 if you get those "watches" that track you ,some will call the police. Or emts with position automatically if your pulse gets low. Good and bad. Like 😁 the adility to boil water, am an outdoorsmen, fishermen, hunter. A cube of roman in your trunk could be usefull.
Hand sanitizer or wet wipes come in handy soooo often. You never know if sink isn’t going to be working or if you get something sticky on your hands. I use one of these everyday at the very least.
I have most of those items. The things I carry on/in my jeans are my Sebenza, Leatherman Charge in a sheath/holster, and Olight Baton. I prefer the Baton as there are 5 different modes. Everything else is in my Vanquest Small Dendrite waist/sling pack. I don't carry a battery pack, but do carry 10' of para cord, an Olight i1R keychain flashlight as a spare and most of all -- a utility knife. I'll rotate in either a Gerber EAB or TPT Slide. I use more than my main knife. Watch is usually a digital Timex Expedition, wallet is a Travax Contour Ti. Good video!
I agree with a AA or AAA flashlight. I also hate having to cycle though a bunch of useless functions. I want on and off. That’s it. I also look for a pocket clip that doubles as a hat clip. I wear a ball cap most days and the ability to use a flashlight as a headlamp is amazing.
Hey man. First time here. Great video! The only thing that I would add is a small sew kit to make small repairs on gear or clothes. I keep a small one in the glove compartment. Contains a patch or two, glue, waxed thread, a strait needle, a curved needle and 2 different size buttons,. I once blew the crotch of my slacks out at a wedding and was able to repair them and continue the celebration. If I'm going into the wilderness it, I toss it in my bag. Simple, light weight, takes up almost no room. It has my made life easier many times.
Well informed video! I would add that butane lighters, although great for providing a jet flame and conserving fuel when not in use, don’t work well at altitude. For that reason, I get by with the simple Zippo insert.
Now that I'm retired and walking a dog a 3-5 miles a day I'm doing a lot of carrying. Most of it goes in a 30 liter pack with multiple pockets and molle pockets. First, five liters of water in steel containers, two knives , a diamond steel sharpener, cordage, straps, spare socks, spare weather related clothing, poncho, flashlight, 3 ways to make fire (lighter, Fresnel lens, ferro rod/magnesium block, pen paper and backup pen, sidearm, spare mag, second 6 foot leash, 20 foot leash, bandana, small first aid kit, phone, shoelaces, spare glasses, compass, ace bandage, knee wrap, ankle wrap, aluminized mylar blanket, mechanics gloves, multitool, pliers, adjustable wrench, (people in town have asked if I have anything to help fix a bicycle, so I started) dog crap bags including spares, bowl for dog's water, spare change, $20 in small bills, credit, ID, insurance card, kubotan, spare eyeglasses, treats for the dog, crackers for me. The entire load out weighs about 25-27 pounds. At one time or another I've used most of it. I suppose most of it is overkill, but it is good practice, after three years I feel I could carry 60 pounds 12 miles of back country in a day or walk 25 miles with this pack with just small stops and complete the journey in under 12 hours in most weather. Good boots or shoes are critical for walking. Weather, me and that dog have been walked in snow, cold north wind, rain, summer sweat, and are on a pace for 1,100 miles this year. We've seen wind chills close to 30 below and heat indexes of over 100. At both of those extremes a person and a dog can go through a lot of water in a couple hours. Summer hat is a wide brim fishing hat (skin cancer awareness, got some in the family) and in the winter it is wool or beaver fur. Several times the first year I was mistaken for a homeless person( with $300 European hiking boots, a $2,500 hunting dog, real wool jacket, beaver fur hat, homeless should live so well) but now I'm pretty well known in this small midwestern town and haven't been offered food, water or cash in a while. Funny, the last time this woman had some 20's she wanted to give me and I had to tell her twice that I live in town and my mortgage is paid, my truck is paid and my boat is paid. When she finally heard what I was saying she said "I can't wait for my mortgage to be paid off".
Excellent EDC video, great insight! Pen and paper is actually a *really* useful one. I keep a pad of sticky notes in a slimline metal case w/ a couple short pencils. Pencil won't fail like pen, can easily sharpen with my knife.
No arguments from me ,that was all good solid advice .As I come from the UK we can't carry anything that locks knife wise and certainly nothing fixed I even had to buy a bladeless multi tool to avoid arrest and or confiscation. ,God forbid we defend ourselves with anything like a knife or it is off to jail we go, such is the "Nanny state" we live in.A good SAK is always an option though so it is a Swiss Champ on my belt a Handyman in my back pack and a Leatherman Juice in my left pocket. I also add a small roll of Duct Tape, and thermal blankets as part of the first aid kit .Duct Tape will repair clothing aid in emergency shelter building close wounds in small strips like "Butterfly stiches" or "Steri Strips" and keep ANY dressing firmly in place . I also carry a survival kit as standard in my pack ,well you just never know what is going to get thrown at you next.
Good list and I’ve got a few additions. Carrying a hank in the back pocket is easy and very useful for cleaning screens, knife blades, wounds, wiping sweat. I have a couple of two-ply hanks from Frozen North Cloth Works. Another couple of good emergency items, in addition to a good flashlight, is a headlamp, which can easily go in the car’s glove box, along with a good pair of work gloves to protect the hands. I’ve got a small and growing pocket knife collection and I change my carry all the time. Favourites are: - Benchmade Mini Freek - Benchmade Mini Adamas - Spyderco Para 3 LW - Civivi Elementum - Civivi Odium - CKRT Squid I’m looking to add a Spyderco PM2, an upgraded Para 3 and a Zero Tolerance 0562CF. I have a few flashlights and my favourite is i5T EOS.
Would also recommend a handkerchief. Preferably one with survival tips. Zippo fire starter kit is very small and waterproof. Instead of flashlight I opted for a small headlamp. That way I have use of both hands. Also carry the Gerber Armbar. Small pepper gel and Smitty mini knife sharpener with whistle and ferro rod.
Nice EDC. The SAK Huntsman is one of my favorites, it has a great combination of tools and it's great for camping and bushcraft. I've gotten several colleagues and friends hooked on a decent EDC.
Never thought of a Butane lighter instead of a regular lighter. I carry a MSR Reactor with a couple cans of fuel and some coffee and dehydrated meals along with me in my truck. Easy to throw under the seat and if I’m stranded a lil coffee and food can’t hurt.
Imagine my surprise to find out that I'm a man! My husband will be disappointed 🤣 🤣 🤣 Been carrying all of those things for most of my life (well, aside from the power bank since cell phones & easily rechargeable items came along later in adulthood.) always carrying a multitool as well as a lighter wrapped with gorilla tape have served me well over the years. From equipment set-up at work when a screwdriver or pliers are needed to minor first-aid needs where duct-tape has been a literal life-saver. The vast majority of those things (as well as my CCW) are all carried on my person because purses can get stolen so gentlemen, please encourage the women in your lives to carry EDC on their person too!
A G-Shock watch, folding knife, and small flashlight have always been on me for as long as I can remember. The flashlight has helped me and other people more times then I can remember. I don't trust a cell phone only. It is just a cherry on top.
A decent hanky. Wipe sweet, cleans phones and glass. Control bleeding. At a pinch a mask. Not just for covid, smoke, dust etc. On another note. I never hear anyone say this good reason for carrying a knife, cutting seat belts. Hear me out. I work for the Ambulance in another country. I take the calls. Atypical western nation. I have had a few calls over the years where seats can get jammed as do seat belts after an accident. Doing CPR or trying to control bleeding on someone caught in a car is a nightmare. Even though I can't direct you to do so, but cutting clothing sometimes can help. And the amount of lives that could have been saved if someone had a torch. Anyhow. In my country edc is not big and in most states in my country carrying a knife is illegal. I do for those reasons though.
Great video - might lead to another vid on items always in your truck. Small set of jumper cables, tow rope, leather clothes and compact shovel. Also a rain poncho and emergency blanket in the rear door slots are in my truck.
Good list. I carry all except the pen/pad - I'm inconsistent with that (probably because I've gotten used to using the notes app on the phone). I really like the Olight i5T as it uses a regular AA or a special rechargeable (your choice), although I'm usually carry Olight's Warrior 3 to have a little more light (although I lose the ability to use regular AA batteries). I usually have a couple of the i5T lights and spare batteries in the get-back-home bag. I've ended up using a little leather holster to hold the light and my Leatherman Wave+. For stuff like cordage, battery bank, water, and first aid I have to go to the get-back-home bag, which is in whatever vehicle I'm traveling in. Additionally, I carry an sem-auto pistol and spare mag on me.
I recommend the Ridge Wallet for wallets, as for watches, Timex has a lot of affordable durable options, and for knives it’s personal preference but I really like Kershaw and highly recommend it, a keychain item you can have is a tiny swiss army knife by Victorianox, not as good as a bigger multitool but a mini-swiss army knife comes in hand a lot
Nice vid. A couple of suggestions: If you live in the city, a water spigot key. If not, a water filtration system. Carrying water is great, but you never know when you'll need more ... oh, and Semper Fi.
Good set up. I finally knock out a edc after running a channel for 2 year. Lots of stuff i can carry at work due to restrictions but thats what the ghb in my car is for
While I see the value of the Thunderbird Butane insert, may I recommend the Thyrm PyroVault Lighter. it adds to waterproof and seal off any potential leakage. The are really nice to have in my view!
Great list! I just miss one thing, the "boo boo kit". Not an IFAK, just the stuff that everybody could use daily. Medicine for head, stomach, and throat aches. Band-aid for small wounds. Small tweezers and a scissor. And wet wipes in my eyes are a must in this kit.
Surprised you didn’t mention a CCW. I don’t always carry on me, but I always have a Sig 320 xCompact in the console safe in my truck. Also, totally with you on a multi tool, and recently came across the Leatherman Style P&S. It’s TSA friendly since it has no knife (I carry a TRM Adam pocket knife). It has scissors, pliers, bottle opener, screwdrivers, and tweezers. And fits on your key chain.
I second having a small amount of cash on hand and in your car or truck. I was stuck in traffic while evacuating the fire in Colorado along with everyone else from south of Boulder a few days ago. Low on petrol so pulled into a gas station. Their internet and phone lines were down so no transactions by credit card. Cash only. Luckily I had $10 in my glove box so I bought a few gallons. Will definitely be looking for on person cash carrying system and put at least $80 in small bills in my truck.

Here are my specific items that I carry on my person every day: Knife: Spyderco PM2 or Benchmade Mini Adamas (I do have a Bugout too which I love but these days I prefer something a bit more beefy) Wallet: Distil Union Wally Sleeve - very minimal, holds a few cards and cash and has some nice features Lighter: Good ol Bic lighter. Zippos evaporate too fast and I don’t want to wrap them in rubber to retain fuel Paracord: Quick-release homemade paracord bracelet. Find a video on how to make your own quick-release bracelet. If you are in a dire emergency you will not have time to slowly unwrap your bracelet for 5 minutes. Quick release is secure but when you pull the knot it unravels very quickly. Very overlooked feature Watch: Timex Expedition Scout, simple analog watch that is reasonably durable. Although it does lack features compared to a digital watch Multi-tool: Leatherman Style PS. Super small NO KNIFE multi-tool (smaller than Bic) with hybrid pliers, wire cutters, screwdriver, file, scissors, bottle opener, carabiner, and tweezers. I don’t need another knife because I carry a dedicated knife. Can use one scissor blade in a pinch. Absolutely love this thing Pen: BigIdesign bolt action mini, great little pen Flashlight: Streamlight Microstream USB. Recharging isn’t a big deal In 2022. Although I might try out a regular battery light in the future POM pepper spray: I don’t care what anyone says, pepper spray is an excellent tool. I’m not going to have a knife duel to the death when I can just use this and GTFO in most situations. Concealed money belt, paperclip, and for my daughter, a screamer alarm. I got stuck out of town during the gas shortage and bank closure in 2008 (no ATMs, places stopped accepting credit/debit), and now I never go without enough cash to deal with something like that again. Good basic EDC overview, and some nice upgrades for mine :)
The MacGyver EDC. I'm impressed. I normally just roll with phone, chap stick, folding knife, pepper spray (because not all defense situations require a 9mm), Ridge wallet w/ lock picks and a slim metal multi card tool and a P-07.
Flashlight is one that people give me a hard time about ALL THE TIME. Funny though, got a streamlight handheld for Xmas last year. Two months later, my girl and I were doing a long drive and had a flat late at night. Had to change the wheel out for the spare in the cold and pitch black. Handheld gave plenty of light to get the job done quickly and safely, which was good because it is not only dangerous on the side of the highway, but it was cold AF! I have definitely become a big fan of carrying a smaller vertx or similar bag on a daily basis. The more I might need, the bigger the bag. Def multi-tool, knife, light, and chargers!
On person EDC- Wallet, Cellphone, Keys, Pocketknife. Sometimes a small flashlight (especially in winter where its dark early)-wearing a smartwatch/watch.. 'the rest' goes in the car or a backpack if I'm carrying one. I used to obsess over my EDC but real world xp shows you can do without having the; Pen & pad, multi-tool, cordage, lighter, battery bank, and water bottle directly on person. Sure, having those handy nearby is great but 99% of the time carrying all of that on you is overkill- great vid

I was carrying a Benchmade CQC7 but gave that to my brother (another fellow Marine) when I got the Emerson. Just personal choice. I wore a Casio G-Shock (the standard, $35 one) from 1983 (picked it up in Okinawa when I first got there) until 2007 (SAME ONE!!!) when I gave it to one of my workers in Iraq! It was still going strong! Switched to a Timex Ironman Triathlon, but I am really looking forward to going back to Casio. Considering something like the Rangeman... jury is out on this one. Hello Sir, finally subbed. I keep coming back to your channel, to look at EDC items. I am pretty squared away in what I carry, but I have to give you credit for staying true to a non-rechargeable AA battery flashlight. I enjoy the simplicity of knowing all I need is another AA battery, which I carry three in my sling bag. I like the 4L Vanquest Large Dendrite waist/sling pack. Yes, it's a "fanny" pack, but I sling it over my shoulder, and for me it carries the EDC items, and preparedness items that I like carrying. I do like that lighter, with the butane insert. I just carry the Bic lighter. I totally agree on your points, good to see I am following your mantra with most of my EDC. Wondering if you could do footwear reviews, I am really in the market for a rugged, decent looking footwear.
Baseline is a Swiss Army Alox Pioneer with pocket clip dangler, S&W J frame, Olight I5t pen light, slim leather bifold wallet, cell phone, minimal keychain with Swiss Army Congress, and a 7 round speed strip. Other items get added depending on the needs of the day, such as a fixed blade, additional gun, pliers, adjustable wrench, etc.

You have some great ideas here. I would add a handkerchief. It is good for use on wounds, wiping off the cat food gravy you got on you whilst feeding the cats at the farm, and I once loaned mine to a sobbing girl at a bar - boyfriend issues. In my car I bring my "day pack" when I am driving, especially through the boonies at night. It holds high-calorie snacks, water, lighters, etc. so If I dodge a deer and fly into the bushes from over-steering, I can sit snacking in my car if the doors won't open, and I can't get out till daylight when, maybe, the police find me. Someone died about a year ago near the farm when their car disappeared into the brush, and it wasn't spotted till 3 days later. Lastly, a tactical pen, such as those made by Atomic Bear, is compact yet it has a flashlight, a pen, tiny tools, and a "carbide" point for breaking out of auto-glass or bonking unpleasant people on the head. Great list. I would add a Sawyer mini with the multiple threads, and a p38 can opener. Also maybe lifeboat matches in case something goes wrong with the lighter (you know crap happens at the most inopportune moments). Otherwise definitely Battalion ready.
Very comprehensive list, for sure. Just a point though: for folk in the UK, carrying a multitool or penknife that has a lock blade is illegal, and could get you arrested if stopped by Law Enforcement! You might get away with a penknife (blade less than 3 inches!), IF you can prove to their satisfaction that you have a valid reason for carrying it! [Note: self-defence is NOT, repeat NOT, a valid reason! Stating this as your reason immediately means they will interpret that to mean you intend to use the knife as a weapon, and that is not allowed in UK! ] This situation is very strictly enforced, especially in public places like shopping malls, stadiums, railway stations, airports, etc. I'm not really qualified to give Legal advice, so make sure that you have read the relevant Govt Legislation on this if you are not sure.

Love it brother, I do think a medical kit is pretty necessary. I kinda figure if you have room for a small hank of cordage you probably have room for at least a tiny kit, be it in a backpack or your truck or whatever.
Always have a folded bandana in my pocket. I keep a Vanquest edcm huge maximizer in my car loaded with goodies. On my person: keys in a Northwall leather organizer that came with a small prybar, attached to that is a Roryvon a3 flashlight, victorinox sd classic in walnut. Wallet, knife, bandana, pocket carry a bodyguard .380 in a desantis nemesis holster.
Great video, and subscribed for several reasons. I carry 2 wallets in the back pockets, the big one is what I use for everyday transactions. It also has 550 cord, spare house key, safety pins, paper clips, along with my main cash and credit card in it. My small wallet has ID, CHL, bank card, insurance cards, and extra cash of all denominations. ($20 largest) Horizontal on the belt is a 5" Spyderco Street Bowie I can draw left or right handed. P365 on left side. RF pocket is chapstick, nail clippers, Gerber Vise and the small Swiss army. LF pocket is keys only. Shirt pocket is a full size pen and 8 1/2" x 11" folded paper, reading glasses. I change paper weekly, as my list is (sometimes-lol) completed. The pen serves as a first line self defense. I carry a small bag in the truck, water, snacks, light, spare mag/ammo, extra knife, some 1st aid, masks and bandanas, ball cap, Bic. Only have 1 wrist watch atm. If I'm hanging local, I only carry 1 battery bank for my cell. If further away, I have a hand crank/solar/battery NOAA(AM/FM) radio w/USB ports and flashlight. I wear a thick belt AND suspenders, in case I have to pull the belt for another purpose. Since I'm over 60, I also often carry a cane. Most importantly, I work out 3-4 hours a week, (weights, heavy bag, slam ball etc...) And practice with canes. Thanks for your video.
For me its a Victorinox Ranger or Outrider, Knipex Cobra XS or 5”, Wera Kraftform Kompakt 10 (813 R), Streamlight Microstream, and a Fisher Space Pen. The watch is one of my G-Shocks, and my edc on the go gun is usually a Glock 26….. and a Ruger LCP for around the house. My usual carry folder is a Spyderco Harpy (just like Hannibal Lecter 👍🏼)…. Sometimes I’ll ditch the Swiss Army Knife and Knipex pliers and carry a Leatherman Super Tool 300 or Rebar.
Hello, just came across your channel and you are doing a great job. Have already went through 5 videos straight. 100% agree on the BenchMade. The mini grip was my first from them but have since added a few more including the Bugout, which is just a great knife. And the pens also. I ordered a Bastion for myself and after receiving picked one up for my wife and oldest daughter that is only 13. But they are heavy enough she could use it besides writing. Also tried the Refyne , I know I spelled wrong, but find I have a hard time writing with it at times. On some paper it just does not want to write where the Bastion has worked. OK, you got me with this title bro. watching intently..I have HIGH expectations.. Edit: so looks good! some notes...the I5R is a massive upgrade not just on recharge, but also has way better run times, with every type of battery. The cordage thing...ok, I agree, but now we are talking car and bag, which could be a series of vids by itself. A really cool way to carry cordage is to make it into a key lanyard. I need to check out that Thunderbird Insert! loving my zippo insert..but you make a really good point about seeing the fuel.
In Australia so many people are worried about carrying a knife on them. They dont know its ok to have a knife if u use it for work purposed which includes if u want to cut a god damn apple for lunch. I carry a quality pocket knife, a small pen shaped diamond knife sharpener, a 3mm lead pacer style pencil, a sharpie, a good pen, a quality small torch with pocket clip. a screwdriver pen that has phillips No2 and flat head then when flipped a micro flat head and micro phillips and a bic lighter. Never wore a watch but you make good points for using one. Also looking for a thin Lithium battery bank with iphone, usb C and usb micro 3 in 1 cable. the cordage idea is awesome. all fit in my lower cargo pockets and are not bulky and the knife is in my back pocket.
besides keys, phones, cash and cards (of which some i carry in a pouch for glasses), i carry these 10 things usually: liquid sanitizer, vegetable oil, lip balm, floss/toothpick, q-tips, paper tissues, a kind of foldable razor blade (upgrading to a knife soon), sacred ash, rapé, mints
Since I started carrying a flashlight, I can't believe how many times I have used it. As for the lighter, sure, emergency fire starter, but also those "emergency" cigars. You never know when someone will say, "Hey, you want a cigar?"
My work EDC is a Camelbak, Apple watch Ultra, pocket Rite in the rain notebook, Rite in the rain mechanical pencil, Milwaukee sharpie, Magpul DAKA everyday wallet, Gerber multi-tool w/belt pouch, Low voltage scissors, iPhone, small tweaker screwdriver.
Another good thing about flashlights, you can hold one in your mouth when hands are busy. I use a SureFire headlamp and WMLs, but I keep a Fenix 3000 lumen mini flashlight on me at all times. It's GREAT light, goes for $60- $70 in 2022. It's bright AF, rechargable and has a pocket clip.
Pretty decent list. Mine as follows: Knife-recently went to small fixed blade: Bradford Guardian 3 (love it). Also carry a copper scaled SAK (Farmer model) Pen-Machine era pen in copper Pad-Field Notes pad in a red leather Hitch and Timber cover Watch-Seiko SNK 805 field watch-HUGE fan of basic field watches, and this one just works. No batteries, nothing to distract me, its just a watch. That, and I have a thing for analog watches Flashlight-Olight copper model no longer in production. Takes 1 AAA, which the battery gets changed out every 3 months when my Quip toothbrush is refreshed :) Multitool-Leatherman Supertool 300 with blasting cap crimper-got this in the 1990s when I was still in the service. Did me tons of good, love this thing: Wallet-Timberland Slim. Very unobtrusive and has a money clip. I usually have small bills in it, but in my go bag (or man purse) I have several hundred as "emergency" cash Cordage-dont carry any on me, but have a bunch in my go bag, which is with me 99% of the time Lighter-clipper lighters. They are refillable, disposable Butane lighters. And they light when wet!!! The wheel is also squared off, so its easier to use overall. I went from my zippo, to bics, to these. And love them. Battery bank-10k one in my go bag, 30k in the truck. Dont carry one on me though Water bottle-green plastic issue pilots flask in my go bag (fits in the mag pocket). I generally dont carry anything larger than that on me, because I dont like bulk. Things not mentioned, I think you should have: Large bandana-you can get an oversized one, and it works well for a towel, snot rag, TQ, etc (NEVER use 550 cord as a TQ-it causes more damage than not using one at all. It does NOTHING to impede blood flow, and can actually cause clot issues). Chapstick-great for lubrication of zippers, ad hoc firestarter and flame extended when mixed with paper, good to prevent chafing (please apply to fingers first, and NOT the chafed area!!
Check out the Rustico "single track" wallet. Top grain leather, very simplistic and durable with a nice little slot for that emergency cash. I have been using one for 8 years now, love it! I either carry a cheapo knife as not to "lose" it to LEO, but the Benchmade AFO II is never far away. Surefire Aviator LED is my go to light, has a great clip for a belt or the bill of a hat. And my Kahr 9mm, don't leave home without it.

I currently carry a Ferrum Forge Arch Bishop 3.0, an Olight S1r Baton 3, an Ekster Wallet(amazing wallet), a leatherman skeletool, 2 bic lighters, a titanium pen from big idea design, extra cash 200-300 bucks in a concealed place on my person, and I have a tiny victorinox with tweezers and toothpick. You can do pretty much everything you need to do with all those items. Good video!
I just carry black airforces, a ski mask, and a glock 17. You'd be surprised how much more stuff you can aquire throughout the day

My Fathers rule on cash was to NEVER carry any in your wallet. Keep it your front pocket of choice and always keep the small bills on top so that's all that people see when you have to pull out. The change goes in the opposite pocket and thats what you use until it runs out. If you can you put a twenty under the sole of your shoe...Both if possible

That's exactly what I do when travelling. A lot of places worth visiting have many pickpockets about, and you don't want everyone to know exactly how much cash you have on you. Additionally, the front pocket is much harder to pick than the back one.

it's a solid list I agree with it and I'll explain my choices
Knife: I generally prefer full size(3.5in) or larger and I'm a fan of crossbar locks
Pen: I've settled on Zebra pens for mix of quality and lower price since I have had some stolen by coworkers currently use a modified sarasa with an ultra fine tip ink barrel. I keep a stash of dollar store note pads around.
Watch: I'd prefer a water resistant timex expedition however I'm wearing a samsung watch.
Flashlight: this one I am all over the place I prefer a light with multiple modes and preferably a moonlight mode. I also prefer a clip I can attach to my hat (which is always part of my edc) for hands free operation. Then there's batteries or rechargeable with a battery option I can just drop in a new one and keep rolling if I drain a rechargeable then its out of action for however long it takes to recharge it.
Multitool: currently I'm carrying a leatherman surge that has served me well with it's 2 knife blades, scissors, pliers and bit kit..
Wallet and cash: I'm using a "ridge" like wallet to carry a few cards and a money clip for cash which I usually keep a 20 dollar bill or 2 just in case.
Cordage: I keep some 550 and 1100 cord in my vehicle too.
Lighter: This another undecided choice for me I carry and prefer a butane torch and I have a habit of buying value packs of bic and/or scripto (do you know the scripto hack?) lighters that I keep a few in various jackets and in our vehicles. I like bics for "just in case " it runs out of fuel I can still use the flint for a spark.
Battery bank: much like you I have them all over the place too along with a charger cord or 2 for phones and flashlights.
Water bottle: I prefer steel water bottles because worse case I can boil said water for a variety of reasons such as purification, cooking, ect.
Hat: Preferably a baseball style which has a bill stiff enough to support a small flashlight for hands free operation, provide shade for my eyes on sunny days, and as a handle to fan flames as I'm building a campfire which can happen often while I'm fishing throughout the year in Delaware.
Gloves: I always have a pair or 2 of work gloves in my vehicles for duties such as collecting firewood, changing a tire during cold weather, and other tasks.

- Mint Gum - To help with coffee breath when at a interview/function
On me, i carry:

As a mechanic I carry everything on the list and a small pair of finger nail clippers. Great for quick trims or splinter removal.

I recommend you add a sillcock key, being able to access water from a outdoor spigot from commercial buildings is a must if stranded.
I use a 9v led flashlight. one battery last forever. In addition, I carry a 3ft measuring tape, magnet, magnesium fire starter, pepper spray. all in a small crossbody bag. I pack them easy to grab and practice taking things in and out in a flash so if the emergency arises, I'm not fumbling with anything.
I carry a small plastic resealable bag with an assortment of band-aids alcohol wipes and antibiotic wipes.
Pretty much what I keep on the daily for EDC but I have an extra item that could be very useful. I keep a HAM radio as well. But any kind of FRS, GMRS radio will do. Most HAM radios will also work on those services as well. I am a licensed Armature Radio Operator with the call sign K4EBB. But FRS needs no license and GMRS also requires a license but no testing, just pay the fee and your good to go. In a grid down situation an analog radio requires no power grid for communications.
And another item that could be useful as well is a pocket SHORTWAVE RADIO to receive information in a grid down situation. Just make sure it has a SSB function so you can listen in on the HAM bands in HF ( HIGH FREQUINCY ) modes
I agree. Excellent list! My state has virtually no knife laws. I carry a decent fixed blade, a Tops HOG 4.5 in a Red Hill kydex. I carry a Leatherman Wave+, and yes, the scissors are awesome. Zip ties to finger nail clippers, the scissors come in handy. I got tired of needing a flashlight to find a flashlight, so I carry a Fenix PD36R. My watch is a Casio GShock Mudmaster. Indestructible, functional. I also have a backpack I carry with me everywhere. It is a Mystery Ranch Two Day Assault. It has everything I need to spend an unexpected night in the woods or away from home, and useful things from an IFAK to phone charger, notepad, knife sharpener, batteries, p-cord, a folding saw, a Nalgene and carabiner, a small screwdriver set for fixing glasses or other small items, ect My wife calls it my purse. She makes fun sometimes, but it has saved our asses. When she gets a migraine, she isn't laughing when I am able to just pull out a little first aid kit and grab some Excedrin. I was a Boy Scout, and I have tried to be prepared for most situations since I was a boy. I started with a Swiss Army knife and a Timex when I was about 7. When any of my friends need something, from tweezers to a Sharpie, they ask me first.
As a mechanic I use a flashlight in my pocket constantly. I use a Streamlight that is a really good brand, has rubber on the end so I can hold it in my mouth and not chip my teeth.
Good list. I also carry a chapstick and a small pillbox (with Benadryl, ibuprofen and excedrin). A multitool with a blade is good, so instead of the redundancy of another folding knife, I like a small fixed blade for self defense. My favorite is the Kabar TDI Investigator. It’s very concealable, comfortable & gets the job done. Also, with a bunch of stuff in pockets, it’s helpful to wear pants with extra pockets like 5.11 tactical jeans (extra hip pocket on both sides).

I would only add a minimal first aid kit-bandaids, etc. but with 2 aspirin in case of heart attack or just pain, inflammation and I days' supply of any essential medications you take. A handkerchief is a great multitasker-cleaning, drying, wiping, first aid, etc. Men of my Dad's generation (1920-2000) carried all this as routine-a pocket knife, handkerchief, lighter, penlight, watch, wallet, pen, keys, business cards/paper, leather belt and neck tie (good as emergency cordage, tourniquet, etc) and, when legal, a piece.
Good EDC items! One thing that I carry that alot of people don't, Is an Ankle IFAK. In the little kit I have a TQ, Sharpie, Z-Fold Gauze, 2 Chest Seals, Quic-Clot Gauze, and a few small Bandages. I feel that everyone should know at least how to use a Tourniquet and have one either on their person or in their vehicles. You never know if you will pull up on the scene of an accident or anything else that would require some way to stop major bleeding. Always good to have. It can save your life or someone else's life!

North American rescue is a good place for medical supplies, if you carry a firearm the CAT7 TQ is a must have. Sourcing the medical supplies separately is always cheaper than buying a complete kit.
Great Video ! My digital watch is set to 24-Hour mode with a NATO/EDC watchband (have to break both pins on the watch to lose it) and a Suunto button compass ! Modified my Zebra F-701 pen to use the Fisher Space Pen refill. T. Lipinski
I suggest a watch with a barometer, altimeter and thermometer. I like to fish and hunt and that really helps. A $40 Casio does all that. plus timer, stopwatch, alarm, etc.

Get a watch with minute and hour hands. You can use it as a compass if you're out in the woods lost or whatever. Although I honestly use the Sun to find my East to West more than I use my watch face to find North to South 😅. Which is why I went with a smart watch. Now I can track my sleep, my heart rate, my step count, it has a GPS feature too if I want to track my path, it tells me the weather, gives me notifications from my apps and messages/calls, I can trigger my camera as well, it can also help determine time of death if anything were to happen to me. But I always keep a cheap watch with a face in my EDC bag just in case.
Good video. I'm with you on everything here, and it's nice to see someone else think about cordage. I used to carry 550 but it was just too bulky for any real usable length. Now I use commercial Singer sewing machine bobbins which hold about 50 feet of 250 pound test braided fishing line. It's just a little thicker than the guts of 550 but about half as strong as 550 in a much smaller package that's about 1.5 inches in diameter and a half inch thick bobbin. Fits on my keychain easily. Keep up the great work.

I do agree with all of your choices... myself I do carry a crkt provok.... heavy but quick deployment, pepper spray... "A little hotsauce can go a long way", a small streamlight is better than the olight's... "I used a olight for less than a year and it started giving out.. my stream light is going on 3 years now", a analog watch, and a leatherman with my ccw carry and a spair mag, as well as a eagle torch.
I keep a bag in my car at all times that has a complete first aid kit extra set of clothing with a few food bars, 2 bottles of water with a empty water bladder and a small battery pack with solar panels built in, as well as some cordage and a fixed blade knife. Most items in the bag is vacuumed sealed to compress items to it's smallest components.
I really prefer usb-rechargeable flashlights for edc, because you can always have a full battery by just topping it off. For keychains, the Nitecore Tube is great… super lightweight, great UI, different colors, $12. For a larger edc (18650 size), the Olight Warrior Mini 2 is great (it’s a hybrid edc-tactical light with a nice deep carry clip). I prefer the aluminum over the titanium for the lighter weight. Olight has sales every month or two, so always wait for a sale!

One item that I recently added to my EDC, was inexpensive blade utility knife for cutting, which saves my primary knife from dulling the blade (paper/cardboard). I like the Leatherman Skeletool, gives you access to a blade without having to open the whole tool.

Yeah, milwaukee 48 22 1505 razor knife with bottle opener and bit holder goes everywhere with me. If I need a longer blade for cutting food I grab the folder.
I just use my primary knife for that stuff, since the whole point of a primary knife is to use it often. Otherwise why are you carrying it. Then you get good at resharpening it, which is a skill to learn in itself.
Holders for utility blades come in small key-chain sizes. I carry one made out of titanium. Don’t have to use my $340 Microtech to break down heavy cardboard or loan it out when I can offer my utility blade instead. Also, if you travel by air and don’t want to check baggage, just take the holder and get a blade at your destination.
Perhaps its the old guy in me, but two things I edc aside from the things you’ve listed, are a handkerchief and at least a dose or two of Tylenol. The handkerchief has multiple uses in addition to it’s obvious one. And the Tylenol is obviously for pain and/or fever reducer. If you’re injured or you get a headache, not having to wait until you get home before you can treat it is great.
What a good video! A lot of younger men should watch this. Also, your list is super solid. Two additional things that I EDC are chapstick (in addition to helping your lips, it can be used as fire tender) and a pocket-sized container with my daily meds. Thanks again for sharing your videos.

Great advice! I'll add a few. 1. If knives are legally iffy where you are, check out collapsible batons. 2. If you're someplace you don't know well, a compass will keep you headed in the right direction. The tiny ones are worthless. Get one a couple of inches across. 3. When you buy a flashlight, consider getting one with a dim 'moonlight' mode. It'll let you navigate dark streets without attracting attention.
I just picked up a khaki vest that has like 10 pockets that are inside and outside. It can be worn in the hot months and it makes concealing any pistol very easy! I think these vests are going to get more popular, it beats wearing a man purse! None of the stores had them in stock so I had to order it online but got it in 2 days!
A Good Wool Blanket is a must have car item for me. It will keep you warm not attract attention and it can be used as a stretcher in an emergency. In my pocket I carry 18 ft. Of tarred bank line and a duck tape wrapped BIC lighter in a cloth jewelry bag. The no. 36 bank line has a strength of abt. 250 -300 lbs so it can be very useful in many applications. You've got a great channel and I always like to see my fellow Leathernecks thriving in this space. The one thing that I've recently changed in my EDC, due to receiving it as a Christmas gift from my wife, is the watch. I have forever worn a Casio ProTrek for hiking but now I have the apple watch and I really like all of the fitness stuff + weather + stock quotes, etc, but I know it is dependent on the net being up. I'll probably just put the ProTrek in my vehicle bag just in case. Looking forward to diving deeper into your content. Keep Rockin'
When I was a youngster, late 70s early 80s. Long before the term EDC ever was a thing. My grandfather taught me every man. Should carry a pocket knife, a lighter and a handkerchief (bandana). So many EDC people leave out the importance of the simple lighter. Being able to easily ly make fire is a massive importance. People also tend to overlook the limitless uses of a bandana. From sweat rag to sweatband to wound care to make shift carrying pouch to first stage water filter.
outside of a few differences, this pretty much covers what I carry daily. In the gear, I carry I balance between price and performance. I also know that the different capabilities within the same gear type will sway me one way or the other. Due to where I traveled for work I had to tailor my EDC to both urban and rural areas. While Nalgene bottles are great pieces of kit. You would need a nesting cup to boil water. I have a 1qt keen canteen stainless steel bottle that gives me more capabilities. I went with a solid tac pen that could be used for defense along with a window-breaking tip on it. The one area where I downgraded was in my single-blade folder. Too many of my nicer knives are now the property of the local police. They wanted it so they took it. Besides if I have to use my knife for self-defense am I really going to want it back. The only things I would add are a set of polarized safety glasses, a pair of clear safety glasses, and a handcuff key. Anything else should be added to bigger kits like a BOB or a GHB.

Been there , traveled around , .😁😃😳🐶. why I carry" throw aways." Leave my buck at home, (to debone the turkey for thanksgiving) a $20 carbon steel works fine, home depo, walmart , ozark tral. Army surplus store, Found clone cold steel Spartans on wish for $20 . at 1am use burn card , geen dot ect , be patient they use us mail.

Not a fan of tracking technoligy, 😳 if you get those "watches" that track you ,some will call the police. Or emts with position automatically if your pulse gets low. Good and bad.
Like 😁 the adility to boil water, am an outdoorsmen, fishermen, hunter. A cube of roman in your trunk could be usefull.
Hand sanitizer or wet wipes come in handy soooo often. You never know if sink isn’t going to be working or if you get something sticky on your hands. I use one of these everyday at the very least.
I have most of those items. The things I carry on/in my jeans are my Sebenza, Leatherman Charge in a sheath/holster, and Olight Baton. I prefer the Baton as there are 5 different modes. Everything else is in my Vanquest Small Dendrite waist/sling pack. I don't carry a battery pack, but do carry 10' of para cord, an Olight i1R keychain flashlight as a spare and most of all -- a utility knife. I'll rotate in either a Gerber EAB or TPT Slide. I use more than my main knife. Watch is usually a digital Timex Expedition, wallet is a Travax Contour Ti. Good video!
I agree with a AA or AAA flashlight. I also hate having to cycle though a bunch of useless functions. I want on and off. That’s it. I also look for a pocket clip that doubles as a hat clip. I wear a ball cap most days and the ability to use a flashlight as a headlamp is amazing.
I have a couple of the Olight UV lights. Has actually gotten me 2 free stays and 2 free upgrades at hotels.
Hey man. First time here. Great video! The only thing that I would add is a small sew kit to make small repairs on gear or clothes. I keep a small one in the glove compartment. Contains a patch or two, glue, waxed thread, a strait needle, a curved needle and 2 different size buttons,. I once blew the crotch of my slacks out at a wedding and was able to repair them and continue the celebration. If I'm going into the wilderness it, I toss it in my bag. Simple, light weight, takes up almost no room. It has my made life easier many times.
Well informed video! I would add that butane lighters, although great for providing a jet flame and conserving fuel when not in use, don’t work well at altitude. For that reason, I get by with the simple Zippo insert.
Now that I'm retired and walking a dog a 3-5 miles a day I'm doing a lot of carrying. Most of it goes in a 30 liter pack with multiple pockets and molle pockets. First, five liters of water in steel containers, two knives , a diamond steel sharpener, cordage, straps, spare socks, spare weather related clothing, poncho, flashlight, 3 ways to make fire (lighter, Fresnel lens, ferro rod/magnesium block, pen paper and backup pen, sidearm, spare mag, second 6 foot leash, 20 foot leash, bandana, small first aid kit, phone, shoelaces, spare glasses, compass, ace bandage, knee wrap, ankle wrap, aluminized mylar blanket, mechanics gloves, multitool, pliers, adjustable wrench, (people in town have asked if I have anything to help fix a bicycle, so I started) dog crap bags including spares, bowl for dog's water, spare change, $20 in small bills, credit, ID, insurance card, kubotan, spare eyeglasses, treats for the dog, crackers for me. The entire load out weighs about 25-27 pounds.
At one time or another I've used most of it. I suppose most of it is overkill, but it is good practice, after three years I feel I could carry 60 pounds 12 miles of back country in a day or walk 25 miles with this pack with just small stops and complete the journey in under 12 hours in most weather. Good boots or shoes are critical for walking.
Weather, me and that dog have been walked in snow, cold north wind, rain, summer sweat, and are on a pace for 1,100 miles this year. We've seen wind chills close to 30 below and heat indexes of over 100. At both of those extremes a person and a dog can go through a lot of water in a couple hours.
Summer hat is a wide brim fishing hat (skin cancer awareness, got some in the family) and in the winter it is wool or beaver fur.
Several times the first year I was mistaken for a homeless person( with $300 European hiking boots, a $2,500 hunting dog, real wool jacket, beaver fur hat, homeless should live so well) but now I'm pretty well known in this small midwestern town and haven't been offered food, water or cash in a while. Funny, the last time this woman had some 20's she wanted to give me and I had to tell her twice that I live in town and my mortgage is paid, my truck is paid and my boat is paid. When she finally heard what I was saying she said "I can't wait for my mortgage to be paid off".
Excellent EDC video, great insight! Pen and paper is actually a *really* useful one. I keep a pad of sticky notes in a slimline metal case w/ a couple short pencils. Pencil won't fail like pen, can easily sharpen with my knife.
No arguments from me ,that was all good solid advice .As I come from the UK we can't carry anything that locks knife wise and certainly nothing fixed I even had to buy a bladeless multi tool to avoid arrest and or confiscation. ,God forbid we defend ourselves with anything like a knife or it is off to jail we go, such is the "Nanny state" we live in.A good SAK is always an option though so it is a Swiss Champ on my belt a Handyman in my back pack and a Leatherman Juice in my left pocket. I also add a small roll of Duct Tape, and thermal blankets as part of the first aid kit .Duct Tape will repair clothing aid in emergency shelter building close wounds in small strips like "Butterfly stiches" or "Steri Strips" and keep ANY dressing firmly in place . I also carry a survival kit as standard in my pack ,well you just never know what is going to get thrown at you next.

Carrying a hank in the back pocket is easy and very useful for cleaning screens, knife blades, wounds, wiping sweat. I have a couple of two-ply hanks from Frozen North Cloth Works.
Another couple of good emergency items, in addition to a good flashlight, is a headlamp, which can easily go in the car’s glove box, along with a good pair of work gloves to protect the hands.

I have a few flashlights and my favourite is i5T EOS.
A lot of flashlights nowadays have two-way pocket clips so you can clip it to a hat brim or your collar or something to use as a headlamp
Would also recommend a handkerchief. Preferably one with survival tips. Zippo fire starter kit is very small and waterproof. Instead of flashlight I opted for a small headlamp. That way I have use of both hands. Also carry the Gerber Armbar. Small pepper gel and Smitty mini knife sharpener with whistle and ferro rod.

The SAK Huntsman is one of my favorites, it has a great combination of tools and it's great for camping and bushcraft.
I've gotten several colleagues and friends hooked on a decent EDC.
I prefer the Outrider's slightly longer blade and handle.

Never thought of a Butane lighter instead of a regular lighter. I carry a MSR Reactor with a couple cans of fuel and some coffee and dehydrated meals along with me in my truck. Easy to throw under the seat and if I’m stranded a lil coffee and food can’t hurt.
Imagine my surprise to find out that I'm a man! My husband will be disappointed 🤣 🤣 🤣 Been carrying all of those things for most of my life (well, aside from the power bank since cell phones & easily rechargeable items came along later in adulthood.) always carrying a multitool as well as a lighter wrapped with gorilla tape have served me well over the years. From equipment set-up at work when a screwdriver or pliers are needed to minor first-aid needs where duct-tape has been a literal life-saver. The vast majority of those things (as well as my CCW) are all carried on my person because purses can get stolen so gentlemen, please encourage the women in your lives to carry EDC on their person too!
A G-Shock watch, folding knife, and small flashlight have always been on me for as long as I can remember. The flashlight has helped me and other people more times then I can remember. I don't trust a cell phone only. It is just a cherry on top.
A decent hanky. Wipe sweet, cleans phones and glass. Control bleeding. At a pinch a mask. Not just for covid, smoke, dust etc. On another note. I never hear anyone say this good reason for carrying a knife, cutting seat belts. Hear me out. I work for the Ambulance in another country. I take the calls. Atypical western nation. I have had a few calls over the years where seats can get jammed as do seat belts after an accident. Doing CPR or trying to control bleeding on someone caught in a car is a nightmare. Even though I can't direct you to do so, but cutting clothing sometimes can help. And the amount of lives that could have been saved if someone had a torch. Anyhow. In my country edc is not big and in most states in my country carrying a knife is illegal. I do for those reasons though.
A gentleman always carries up to two hankies: one for his own use and one to offer the lady he is with. 🙂
If you can't carry a knife, carry sheers in your bag and a pair of nail clippers on your keys
Great video - might lead to another vid on items always in your truck. Small set of jumper cables, tow rope, leather clothes and compact shovel. Also a rain poncho and emergency blanket in the rear door slots are in my truck.
Good list. I carry all except the pen/pad - I'm inconsistent with that (probably because I've gotten used to using the notes app on the phone). I really like the Olight i5T as it uses a regular AA or a special rechargeable (your choice), although I'm usually carry Olight's Warrior 3 to have a little more light (although I lose the ability to use regular AA batteries). I usually have a couple of the i5T lights and spare batteries in the get-back-home bag.
I've ended up using a little leather holster to hold the light and my Leatherman Wave+. For stuff like cordage, battery bank, water, and first aid I have to go to the get-back-home bag, which is in whatever vehicle I'm traveling in.
Additionally, I carry an sem-auto pistol and spare mag on me.
I recommend the Ridge Wallet for wallets, as for watches, Timex has a lot of affordable durable options, and for knives it’s personal preference but I really like Kershaw and highly recommend it, a keychain item you can have is a tiny swiss army knife by Victorianox, not as good as a bigger multitool but a mini-swiss army knife comes in hand a lot
Would suggest bumping it to an emergency $100. Has saved my ass more than once.
Nice vid. A couple of suggestions: If you live in the city, a water spigot key. If not, a water filtration system. Carrying water is great, but you never know when you'll need more ... oh, and Semper Fi.
Good set up. I finally knock out a edc after running a channel for 2 year. Lots of stuff i can carry at work due to restrictions but thats what the ghb in my car is for
While I see the value of the Thunderbird Butane insert, may I recommend the Thyrm PyroVault Lighter. it adds to waterproof and seal off any potential leakage. The are really nice to have in my view!
Great list! I just miss one thing, the "boo boo kit". Not an IFAK, just the stuff that everybody could use daily.
Medicine for head, stomach, and throat aches. Band-aid for small wounds. Small tweezers and a scissor. And wet wipes in my eyes are a must in this kit.

Surprised you didn’t mention a CCW. I don’t always carry on me, but I always have a Sig 320 xCompact in the console safe in my truck. Also, totally with you on a multi tool, and recently came across the Leatherman Style P&S. It’s TSA friendly since it has no knife (I carry a TRM Adam pocket knife). It has scissors, pliers, bottle opener, screwdrivers, and tweezers. And fits on your key chain.
Very few places in the world where we can carry let alone own guns lol
I second having a small amount of cash on hand and in your car or truck. I was stuck in traffic while evacuating the fire in Colorado along with everyone else from south of Boulder a few days ago. Low on petrol so pulled into a gas station. Their internet and phone lines were down so no transactions by credit card. Cash only. Luckily I had $10 in my glove box so I bought a few gallons. Will definitely be looking for on person cash carrying system and put at least $80 in small bills in my truck.

Great list I already carry most of this stuff. Here are my specific items that I carry on my person every day:
Knife: Spyderco PM2 or Benchmade Mini Adamas (I do have a Bugout too which I love but these days I prefer something a bit more beefy)
Wallet: Distil Union Wally Sleeve - very minimal, holds a few cards and cash and has some nice features
Lighter: Good ol Bic lighter. Zippos evaporate too fast and I don’t want to wrap them in rubber to retain fuel
Paracord: Quick-release homemade paracord bracelet. Find a video on how to make your own quick-release bracelet. If you are in a dire emergency you will not have time to slowly unwrap your bracelet for 5 minutes. Quick release is secure but when you pull the knot it unravels very quickly. Very overlooked feature
Watch: Timex Expedition Scout, simple analog watch that is reasonably durable. Although it does lack features compared to a digital watch
Multi-tool: Leatherman Style PS. Super small NO KNIFE multi-tool (smaller than Bic) with hybrid pliers, wire cutters, screwdriver, file, scissors, bottle opener, carabiner, and tweezers. I don’t need another knife because I carry a dedicated knife. Can use one scissor blade in a pinch. Absolutely love this thing
Pen: BigIdesign bolt action mini, great little pen
Flashlight: Streamlight Microstream USB. Recharging isn’t a big deal In 2022. Although I might try out a regular battery light in the future
POM pepper spray: I don’t care what anyone says, pepper spray is an excellent tool. I’m not going to have a knife duel to the death when I can just use this and GTFO in most situations. Even if you carry a gun having a less-lethal on you is a good idea

Concealed money belt, paperclip, and for my daughter, a screamer alarm. I got stuck out of town during the gas shortage and bank closure in 2008 (no ATMs, places stopped accepting credit/debit), and now I never go without enough cash to deal with something like that again. Good basic EDC overview, and some nice upgrades for mine :)
Also, 1 or 2 safety pins on your keychain. They come in very handy.
The MacGyver EDC. I'm impressed. I normally just roll with phone, chap stick, folding knife, pepper spray (because not all defense situations require a 9mm), Ridge wallet w/ lock picks and a slim metal multi card tool and a P-07.
Flashlight is one that people give me a hard time about ALL THE TIME. Funny though, got a streamlight handheld for Xmas last year. Two months later, my girl and I were doing a long drive and had a flat late at night. Had to change the wheel out for the spare in the cold and pitch black. Handheld gave plenty of light to get the job done quickly and safely, which was good because it is not only dangerous on the side of the highway, but it was cold AF! I have definitely become a big fan of carrying a smaller vertx or similar bag on a daily basis. The more I might need, the bigger the bag. Def multi-tool, knife, light, and chargers!
On person EDC- Wallet, Cellphone, Keys, Pocketknife. Sometimes a small flashlight (especially in winter where its dark early)-wearing a smartwatch/watch.. 'the rest' goes in the car or a backpack if I'm carrying one. I used to obsess over my EDC but real world xp shows you can do without having the; Pen & pad, multi-tool, cordage, lighter, battery bank, and water bottle directly on person. Sure, having those handy nearby is great but 99% of the time carrying all of that on you is overkill- great vid

Semper Fi, Brother! I just came across your page, and subscribed after 3 videos in a row! My knife of choice is an Emerson SOCFK. I was carrying a Benchmade CQC7 but gave that to my brother (another fellow Marine) when I got the Emerson. Just personal choice. I wore a Casio G-Shock (the standard, $35 one) from 1983 (picked it up in Okinawa when I first got there) until 2007 (SAME ONE!!!) when I gave it to one of my workers in Iraq! It was still going strong! Switched to a Timex Ironman Triathlon, but I am really looking forward to going back to Casio. Considering something like the Rangeman... jury is out on this one.

Hello Sir, finally subbed. I keep coming back to your channel, to look at EDC items. I am pretty squared away in what I carry, but I have to give you credit for staying true to a non-rechargeable AA battery flashlight. I enjoy the simplicity of knowing all I need is another AA battery, which I carry three in my sling bag. I like the 4L Vanquest Large Dendrite waist/sling pack. Yes, it's a "fanny" pack, but I sling it over my shoulder, and for me it carries the EDC items, and preparedness items that I like carrying. I do like that lighter, with the butane insert. I just carry the Bic lighter. I totally agree on your points, good to see I am following your mantra with most of my EDC. Wondering if you could do footwear reviews, I am really in the market for a rugged, decent looking footwear.
Fanny packs are awsome. Can carry everything comfortably and drop it to look through it worst case.
Just a friendly suggestion for you on the lighter, try a torch lighter in low temps below 30F they don’t work! Stick with ur BIC! It’s the way to go!

Baseline is a Swiss Army Alox Pioneer with pocket clip dangler, S&W J frame, Olight I5t pen light, slim leather bifold wallet, cell phone, minimal keychain with Swiss Army Congress, and a 7 round speed strip. Other items get added depending on the needs of the day, such as a fixed blade, additional gun, pliers, adjustable wrench, etc.

You have some great ideas here. I would add a handkerchief. It is good for use on wounds, wiping off the cat food gravy you got on you whilst feeding the cats at the farm, and I once loaned mine to a sobbing girl at a bar - boyfriend issues. In my car I bring my "day pack" when I am driving, especially through the boonies at night. It holds high-calorie snacks, water, lighters, etc. so If I dodge a deer and fly into the bushes from over-steering, I can sit snacking in my car if the doors won't open, and I can't get out till daylight when, maybe, the police find me. Someone died about a year ago near the farm when their car disappeared into the brush, and it wasn't spotted till 3 days later. Lastly, a tactical pen, such as those made by Atomic Bear, is compact yet it has a flashlight, a pen, tiny tools, and a "carbide" point for breaking out of auto-glass or bonking unpleasant people on the head. Great list. I would add a Sawyer mini with the multiple threads, and a p38 can opener. Also maybe lifeboat matches in case something goes wrong with the lighter (you know crap happens at the most inopportune moments). Otherwise definitely Battalion ready.
I live a very minimalistic life- I use a p38 at home.
I put a set of aluminum scale’s for A.W.T. On my mini griptillian and it really made the knife in feel and looks.

Very comprehensive list, for sure. Just a point though: for folk in the UK, carrying a multitool or penknife that has a lock blade is illegal, and could get you arrested if stopped by Law Enforcement! You might get away with a penknife (blade less than 3 inches!), IF you can prove to their satisfaction that you have a valid reason for carrying it! [Note: self-defence is NOT, repeat NOT, a valid reason! Love it brother, I do think a medical kit is pretty necessary. I kinda figure if you have room for a small hank of cordage you probably have room for at least a tiny kit, be it in a backpack or your truck or whatever.

Always have a folded bandana in my pocket. I keep a Vanquest edcm huge maximizer in my car loaded with goodies. On my person: keys in a Northwall leather organizer that came with a small prybar, attached to that is a Roryvon a3 flashlight, victorinox sd classic in walnut. Wallet, knife, bandana, pocket carry a bodyguard .380 in a desantis nemesis holster.
Great video, and subscribed for several reasons. I carry 2 wallets in the back pockets, the big one is what I use for everyday transactions. It also has 550 cord, spare house key, safety pins, paper clips, along with my main cash and credit card in it. My small wallet has ID, CHL, bank card, insurance cards, and extra cash of all denominations. ($20 largest)
Horizontal on the belt is a 5" Spyderco Street Bowie I can draw left or right handed. P365 on left side. RF pocket is chapstick, nail clippers, Gerber Vise and the small Swiss army. LF pocket is keys only. Shirt pocket is a full size pen and 8 1/2" x 11" folded paper, reading glasses. I change paper weekly, as my list is (sometimes-lol) completed. The pen serves as a first line self defense.
I carry a small bag in the truck, water, snacks, light, spare mag/ammo, extra knife, some 1st aid, masks and bandanas, ball cap, Bic. Only have 1 wrist watch atm. If I'm hanging local, I only carry 1 battery bank for my cell. If further away, I have a hand crank/solar/battery NOAA(AM/FM) radio w/USB ports and flashlight.
I wear a thick belt AND suspenders, in case I have to pull the belt for another purpose. Since I'm over 60, I also often carry a cane. Most importantly, I work out 3-4 hours a week, (weights, heavy bag, slam ball etc...) And practice with canes. Thanks for your video.
For me its a Victorinox Ranger or Outrider, Knipex Cobra XS or 5”, Wera Kraftform Kompakt 10 (813 R), Streamlight Microstream, and a Fisher Space Pen. The watch is one of my G-Shocks, and my edc on the go gun is usually a Glock 26….. and a Ruger LCP for around the house. My usual carry folder is a Spyderco Harpy (just like Hannibal Lecter 👍🏼)…. Sometimes I’ll ditch the Swiss Army Knife and Knipex pliers and carry a Leatherman Super Tool 300 or Rebar.
Hello, just came across your channel and you are doing a great job. Have already went through 5 videos straight. 100% agree on the BenchMade. The mini grip was my first from them but have since added a few more including the Bugout, which is just a great knife. And the pens also. I ordered a Bastion for myself and after receiving picked one up for my wife and oldest daughter that is only 13. But they are heavy enough she could use it besides writing. Also tried the Refyne , I know I spelled wrong, but find I have a hard time writing with it at times. On some paper it just does not want to write where the Bastion has worked. Edit: so looks good! some notes...the I5R is a massive upgrade not just on recharge, but also has way better run times, with every type of battery. The cordage thing...ok, I agree, but now we are talking car and bag, which could be a series of vids by itself. A really cool way to carry cordage is to make it into a key lanyard. I need to check out that Thunderbird Insert! loving my zippo insert..but you make a really good point about seeing the fuel.

In Australia so many people are worried about carrying a knife on them. They dont know its ok to have a knife if u use it for work purposed which includes if u want to cut a god damn apple for lunch. I carry a quality pocket knife, a small pen shaped diamond knife sharpener, a 3mm lead pacer style pencil, a sharpie, a good pen, a quality small torch with pocket clip. a screwdriver pen that has phillips No2 and flat head then when flipped a micro flat head and micro phillips and a bic lighter. Never wore a watch but you make good points for using one. Also looking for a thin Lithium battery bank with iphone, usb C and usb micro 3 in 1 cable. the cordage idea is awesome. all fit in my lower cargo pockets and are not bulky and the knife is in my back pocket.
besides keys, phones, cash and cards (of which some i carry in a pouch for glasses), i carry these 10 things usually: liquid sanitizer, vegetable oil, lip balm, floss/toothpick, q-tips, paper tissues, a kind of foldable razor blade (upgrading to a knife soon), sacred ash, rapé, mints
Since I started carrying a flashlight, I can't believe how many times I have used it. As for the lighter, sure, emergency fire starter, but also those "emergency" cigars. You never know when someone will say, "Hey, you want a cigar?"
My work EDC is a Camelbak, Apple watch Ultra, pocket Rite in the rain notebook, Rite in the rain mechanical pencil, Milwaukee sharpie, Magpul DAKA everyday wallet, Gerber multi-tool w/belt pouch, Low voltage scissors, iPhone, small tweaker screwdriver.
Another good thing about flashlights, you can hold one in your mouth when hands are busy. I use a SureFire headlamp and WMLs, but I keep a Fenix 3000 lumen mini flashlight on me at all times.
It's GREAT light, goes for $60- $70 in 2022. It's bright AF, rechargable and has a pocket clip.
Yes I agree. My tip: I EDC a hanky with important phone numbers writen on it. If something bad happens to you, nobody wants to steal a hanky...
In a small pouch - Lens cleaning wipes, wet ones, breath mints (listerine pocket paks), and stall mates cause do do happens baby.
In my EDC i have isopropyl wipes in a zip-lock bag. Very useful for cleaning public toilet seats before doing a number 2.

Watch-Seiko SNK 805 field watch-HUGE fan of basic field watches, and this one just works. No batteries, nothing to distract me, its just a watch. That, and I have a thing for analog watches
Flashlight-Olight copper model no longer in production. Takes 1 AAA, which the battery gets changed out every 3 months when my Quip toothbrush is refreshed :)
Multitool-Leatherman Supertool 300 with blasting cap crimper-got this in the 1990s when I was still in the service. Did me tons of good, love this thing:
Wallet-Timberland Slim. Very unobtrusive and has a money clip. I usually have small bills in it, but in my go bag (or man purse) I have several hundred as "emergency" cash
Cordage-dont carry any on me, but have a bunch in my go bag, which is with me 99% of the time
Lighter-clipper lighters. They are refillable, disposable Butane lighters. And they light when wet!!! The wheel is also squared off, so its easier to use overall. I went from my zippo, to bics, to these. And love them.
Battery bank-10k one in my go bag, 30k in the truck. Dont carry one on me though
Water bottle-green plastic issue pilots flask in my go bag (fits in the mag pocket). I generally dont carry anything larger than that on me, because I dont like bulk.
Things not mentioned, I think you should have:
Large bandana-you can get an oversized one, and it works well for a towel, snot rag, TQ, etc (NEVER use 550 cord as a TQ-it causes more damage than not using one at all. It does NOTHING to impede blood flow, and can actually cause clot issues).
Chapstick-great for lubrication of zippers, ad hoc firestarter and flame extended when mixed with paper, good to prevent chafing (please apply to fingers first, and NOT the chafed area!!
Check out the Rustico "single track" wallet. Top grain leather, very simplistic and durable with a nice little slot for that emergency cash. I have been using one for 8 years now, love it! I either carry a cheapo knife as not to "lose" it to LEO, but the Benchmade AFO II is never far away. Surefire Aviator LED is my go to light, has a great clip for a belt or the bill of a hat. And my Kahr 9mm, don't leave home without it.

I currently carry a Ferrum Forge Arch Bishop 3.0, an Olight S1r Baton 3, an Ekster Wallet(amazing wallet), a leatherman skeletool, 2 bic lighters, a titanium pen from big idea design, extra cash 200-300 bucks in a concealed place on my person, and I have a tiny victorinox with tweezers and toothpick. You can do pretty much everything you need to do with all those items. Good video!
