    Burley construction! The Weber cooking grate is 5 inches above the coal grate, the S&S is 4 and 3/4 inches tall, how tall is the Mallory Firewall? Does it block radiant heat all the way to the bottom of the cooking grate? I like it’s substantial thermal mass and its potential to regulate heat!

    This question is more about your Malory cast iron grate and a heat probe rather than the firewall .
    Do you have any trouble with using using your ThermoWorks heat sensor/probe on the thicker cast iron grates?
    Mounts easily and stays put? Difference in temperature reading due to cast iron conducting more heat compared to a standard Weber kettle grate.
    Thanks for everything.
    Also, I used your link to purchase my ThermoWorks set up!

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I find that the kettle 'recovers' more quickly when the lid is off and then replaced since the cast iron really retains heat. The clip fits between the grates with no problem. It just pinches a little more tightly :)

    Alright brother- I absolutely love your channel but I gotta lay this out there for the peeps: If you want to use a 2 zone fire with a thermal mass to retain heat, just use a pair of chimney bricks! Many of us see these things lying around, I just use 2 of them like a wall to dam up the hot coals on the coal grate. You can also add or use cracked half bricks to add the width of the brick wall. I'm sorry but I can't justify spending $100 on something that you really don't need. If I had an extra $100 burning a hole in my pocket, I'd invest it in better meat. Just my 2 cents as I see the cost of barbecuing skyrocket. I was in a local hardware store and saw a the large green ceramic grill company hocking a TINY 18" grill for $650!!!! Are you just kidding me??? Sorry Ry, like I said, I love your channel but I just had to vent.

The grill I am using right now has four removable cast iron grills. To replace two of the grills with the 1/4 steel a local steel company told me $12.50 for the metal and $2.50 for the cut. I can have my griddle for $15 and be happy. But hey, what do I know. I have been grilling since 1968.

      To me they are for different purposes, but I think the Malory will be able to do some of what the SnS does. I'm not sure about the really long 7+ hour cooks that I routinely get from the SnS. We'll see :)
