I don't think you have to dislike someone for the killing curse to go into effect. All you need is a desire to kill, whether that is with malice or not.
same thing i was thinking, and if he didnt meant it, he could've said avada kedavra without meaning it, and casted a nonverbal spell (to which he was an expert) to flare a green beam onto Dumbledore. All that said, even though I dont think Dumbledore would have left everything to chance if he was alive.
Multiple problems here. First, Dumbledore was weak from drinking that poison. He kept getting weaker as the Death Eaters were standing there watching him slump to the floor. Second, Snape couldn't have slipped him anything to keep him alive because he didn't know there was going to be an attack on the castle that night; remember, Hermione and Flickwick and someone else went to wake him up to help them fight. Third, Dumbledore was talking with Snape via the portrait in the headmaster's office multiple times after he was killed; the only way those portraits work is the recipient's have to be deceased. And finally, as someone else previously said, Voldemort unearthed Dumbledore's body to get the elder wand. Only in the movie do we see Dumbledore's body whole, as I don't believe they mentioned what his body was like when Voldemort took the wand. Too many plotholes in the belief of Dumbledore still being alive.
My thoughts exactly. Plus Snape took the unbreakable vow, that he's gonna kill Dumbledore, if Mayfol can't do it. If they would only fake his death, Snape should have died. I hate Dumbledore is dead, and it was really hurtfull to read that chapter, but it doesn"t change the facts.
@annonymous Well in the unbreakable vow there was never mentioned the death of Dumbledore. He just had to save Draco, which he did by letting Voldemort believe Dumbledore is death. So that's no problem... The bigger problem is: what would Dumbledore do after his faked death? Of course, while Voldemort is alive he shouldn't show up and could habe helped in other ways, but afterwards? No one has ever seen him since... and this seems very unusual for him.
I think everyone is forgetting something very important. A fall from that height would have liquefied the body. All manner of blood and guts would have been sprayed over a 10 yard area. We are all just bags of water and when we crash into the ground at high speed...we explode. They never give gravity and inertia their total destructive power in movies.
@@ShipPhx99 It is very possible that it the gravity around the towers at Hogwarts could be effected by the enchantments. After all flying was a big part of being a witch or wizard even in the founding. There were enchantments to hide the school from muggles and to prevent teleportation on the grounds from students. It would not be a stretch to assume that there are also enchantments to slow down falls.
@@ShipPhx99 I wouldn't have known that, and I doubt it's something Rowling ever researched... which is interesting since that's what she was best at. Then again, maybe she knew but dismissed it, otherwise it would have thrown off a major plot point in Deathly Hallows. Just thinking about that is why I'm scared of heights. lol
According do JK. He is dead. Unless she starts pulling up her multidverse card and pull Dumbledore from another parallel universe using a form of Time turner.
Or, you know. He really died. I love Dumbledore as much as the most devoted fan, but let's not disrespect the legacy of this amazing character. J.K Rowling always meant for him to die. Every negative event that he had inadvertently caused, he had redeemed himself working through the shadows to make sure that Voldemort would lose. I normally love all of your theories, but this subject deserves to be left alone. Let the most beloved Wizard of his time rest. We will see other incarnations of his in the Fantastic Beast films, that is good enough for me due to the fact that his life was bookended by such a beautiful ending. Also, I heard another theory before that I just want to debunk quickly. The theory being that Dumbledore never really died, because he hadn't appeared to Harry in the Forbidden Forest when Harry called forth his loved ones to give his courage to face death when he was in possession of the Resurrection Stone. Even Lupin had appeared, and he had just faced his own peril moments before Harry had called them to him. Furthermore, people believe that Dumbledore had used Legilimency to place the scene of he and Harry in Kings Cross to further advise Harry on what to do from that point forward. The reason Dumbledore hadn't appeared in the Forbidden Forest, was because he was waiting in Limbo for Harry. Dumbledore already set a plan in motion that would cause Harry to die, so instead of moving on to the afterlife immediately, he had decided to wait for Harry so he can fully explain himself for his actions and decisions. At which point, Harry fully realizes the character and type of man Dumbledore is. A man who had died with a lifetime of guilt and regrets, it was the first time that Dumbledore had spoken to Harry as an equal, and no longer a student. Because of the courage and feats that Harry had accomplished to even meet Dumbledore in Limbo, in Dumbledore's mind, Harry was the better man. Which is why Dumbledore was speaking to Harry so vulnerable, almost like a child seeking reassurance from their elders. At that point, Dumbledore had viewed Harry as the greatest wizard who had lived up to that point. Harry had accomplished what even he could not, Harry had the courage to willfully face death if it meant the safety of his friends and family. In that moment, Harry was teacher, while Dumbledore was seeking Harry's confidence. And I'm sorry, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. I was a fan since I was 6 years old and read each of the books at least twice a year, while the audiobooks are of the most played audiobooks on my audible account. And seeing theories like this that dont recognize the beauty of Dumbledores story and refuse to let the mans legacy lie, it troubles me. So I'm sorry, HPT, this is the first dislike I've ever had to do on your channel. Still a fan of your channel, but I just have to do it.
I thought the same thing after I read Half Blood Prince when it was first released. As the DADA teacher that year, Snape taught the students how to cast spells non-verbally. I swore at the time that JK used this ploy as a hint that Snape faked Dumbledore’s murder by saying one thing and meaning another. This was further supported by the fact that Dumbledore was “blown off” the tower, because the killing curse is supposed to make the target just drop dead on the spot. It would have been a build up to the perfect plot twist.
@@karlrovey in the movie he was thrown in the air, but in the book, it just says “he [Harry] heard something heavy fall to the ground beside him….Cedric was lying spread-eagled on the ground beside him. He was dead.” (GOF page 638 scholastic version). In the book version for Cedric and Dumbledore’s death, Dumbledore was blown away but Cedric wasn’t. So Cedric definitely died. But with Dumbledore, it’s possible he didn’t according to this theory.
@@cmptrtube the curse only affected him because he wanted to convince Snape to kill him, he put on the ring just so that Snape wouldn't hesitate in killing him because he was already dying. There is no way Dumbledore did not know more things about the dark arts than Snape ( he was best friends with Grindy for crying out loud) plus he had the elder wand. Dumbledore could've cured that curse if he wanted to, 100%
I see a lot of people commenting on the fact that Voldemort took the Elder Wand from Dumbledore’s grave. Dumbledore was an amazing wizard when it comes to Transfiguration. Who’s to say he didn’t transfigure something into a likeness of his (decomposing) body for the funeral and whenever Voldemort went for the wand. At least, that’s the first thing that came to mind when listening to this theory. But I personally just like to believe that Dumbledore is gone. It makes everything more impactful. Because what was he doing during the entirety of DH? Just twiddling his thumbs hoping Harry followed his master plan exactly as he knew it would happen? It just diminishes Dumbledore’s character if he faked his own death and is just sitting in the shadows watching everything and everyone crumble around him.
@@JuanMataCFC Dumbledore was one of the most powerful wizards to ever live. There is no saying that he couldn't find a way to enter in and out of limbo.
If this theory is correct, I believe that Dumbledore was actually well engrained in all of the actions in the story, just disguised as someone else. Perhaps he was using polyjuice potion or remained out of site of anyone that didn't know he was still alive. We see in the 5th book that Dumbledore is capable of keeping things hidden from Harry and still remain effective in the movement. I do think it is possible that only Snape and perhaps someone like Hagrid were aware that he was still living so he could do brunt work with no eyes on him. I also think he would have stayed hidden (at least from Harry) in order to keep Harry on the path that he had set him on from his 1st year of school. If Dumbledore had come back, everyone would have despised him for allowing Harry to die. Dumbledore would have been capable of defeating Voldemort in a duel, but Harry needed to be "killed" by Voldemort in order for Voldemort to truly die. Dumbledore also would have been blamed for all the death that occurred because he had not helped, not to mention that Dumbledore did not appear to Harry when he was holding the resurrection stone. I think that Dumbledore would have appeared over Remus in this situation if he was really dead.
@@bradynzula607 firstly, even if Dumbledore was somehow still alive, Snape wouldn't be one of the people who knew about it. in the Prince's Tale, we see Snape talking to Dumbledore's portrait (about telling Voldemort the correct date the Order would move Harry out, and about taking the sword to the Forest of Dean). why wouldn't he just be talking to the real Dumbledore instead of a measly portrait? secondly, the reason Dumbledore didn't appear to Harry when he used the Resurrection Stone is because after Harry saw Snape's memories (specifically, the part about Harry needing to die in order for Voldemort to be defeated), he kinda felt "used" by Dumbledore. he thought he was just another one of Dumbledore's pawns in the quest for "the greater good". not to mention that throughout that year (especially when he read about his friendship with Grindelwald in Rita Skeeter's book) he kept thinking that Dumbledore was hiding a lot more from him than he thought (which was true, but tbf it was in Harry's best interest to not know those things).
Good theory. Maybe Hagrid was in on the plan as well cause when Harry told him Snape killed Dumbledore, Hagrid was the only Order member to guess correctly, that Snape was trying maintain his cover with with the Death eaters as a spy, following Dumbledore's orders. Basically he was the only Order member who didn't assume Dumbledore was wrong to mistrust Snape, as if he knew what was really going on but couldn't say. We know that Hagrid being half giant can't get attacked by spells like the stunning charm for instance as we read in Order of the Phoenix so maybe someone using legilimens didn't work on Hagrid, either, meaning if he knew the truth about Snape, his memories wouldn't be at risk of someone like Voldemort finding out the truth.
Agreed. I also, believe that Hagrid was not as dim as he made out. If Dumbledore trusted Hagrid, he wouldn't have trusted someone who wasn't intelligent. Hagrid is my favourite character in the series.
Very interesting idea that. As for my favorite adult character EVEN before The Deathly Hallows was Snape. Many disliked/hated him before the 7th book and to this day some people still do. But I always liked and respected Snape.
@@morrigankasa570 I can't honestly say ALWAYS (see what I did there) liked him. Because at times I felt he was a bit unnecessarily hostile. Otherwise, I genuinely do feel the same way.
I believe Snape killed Dumbledore. In that moment before casting the Killing Curse, he hated Dumbledore for making him do it. He hated Dumbledore did not worry about the effects on Snape’s soul, only Draco’s soul. He hated how Lily’s son was being raised & protected, simply to “die at the right moment”. Rowling describes the look on Snape’s face. I think a lot of people could hate if they were put in Snape’s position. It doesn’t mean he has always hated Dumbledore. Snape would also be very hurt by what Dumbledore wants him to do.
I can hate someone and still want them alive. The books are from Harry's POV, maybe he's just misjudging Snape's facial expression, it's said that all the time he looks at a Slytherin, especially Snape, he sees them as ugly and angry. The curse worked because he knew that it would be worth it in the long run, and because Dumbledore himself wanted to be put out of his misery. He may have felt betrayed, but definitely not enough to have the curse work by pure hate
We know that Dumbledore's patronis is a phoenix. I presume his anamagus form is the same. This makes me wonder if it was possible for him to remain as a phoenix until the Gaunt ring curse kills him and he is reborn immediately? For all we know Dumbledore could still be alive, only now he is no longer an old man.
Because that's not how it works. Yes if his Animagus was a Phoenix he could take the form. But he wouldn't have the magical tears and everything else Faux has. Why? Because he's actually human
@@andrewjay7962 I never read the books, only watched the movies, so please correct me if I’m wrong in this counter-point: In the movies, Peter Petigrew, when revealed, has rat-like physical qualities, correct? So, wouldn’t it make sense that if you stayed in your Animagus form long enough, you begin to slowly but magically adopt the qualities of the animal you take form of?
@@JGirDesu Peter was a rat animagus which isn't a magical creature, but if Dumbledore is a phoenix animagus, it is impossible for him to be immortal because he is still a human.
If Dumbledore had survived, he would have played a more active role in the war against Voldemort. He wouldn't let so many more people suffer. And if Snape and Dumbledore were able to make a remedy for the curse (hand), they would have, and Dumbledore would have had more time. Besides, Dumbledore talks to Harry in Limbo and, if I recall correctly, admits being dead.
One more point: when Dumbledore died, Fidelius Charm for HQ of the Order of the Phoenix passed to the next level of keepers making everyone who had received the secret from Dumbledore secret keepers to replace him.
I thought this was going in a different direction. Picture this: Snape was such a master of Legilimency, that he was able to essentially trick everybody into thinking they heard Avada Kedavra, or conversely, he was thinking a different spell in his head entirely, and that focus was more powerful than the words he was uttering. He mind-stoned them.
One problem. In the book, Harry is under a full body lock spell which Dumbledore himself casts, his last spell. After his death, Harry is free to move and chase the death eaters. In that moment of knowing that he was free to move, Harry knew Dumbledore was dead as all of Dumbledores spells ended on his death. Nice theory though.
I would say even, even IF Snape was faking Dumbledore's death and Dumbledore eskaped in his animagus form, he would still sooner or later have died by the curse from the horcrux. Plus someone would have notised a phoenix flying from the tower.
Which makes me wonder if he could have died in his phoenix form, burst into flames and be reborn like Fawkes. I don't know what the limitations for animagus are but if that's possible, then Dumbledore can effectively be immortal so long as he dies every time in his phoenix form. For all we know he may still be alive, just no longer an old man.
Dumbledore was literally the smartest Wizard of all Time. He could be invisible too I think. Remember Mirror of Eriseld in first part. We can't say anything only JK Rowling could But I believe that Dumbledore and Snape are both alive.
Technically "faulkes" did fly from the tower at the funeral... the "body" left behind could have been a simulacarum. Though I agree, there was no reason to fake his death and not show up for the battle of hogwarts. As for Dumbledore showing up in Harry's mind occulemancy would explain that.
Legilimency could even explain Dumbledore's conversation with Harry on "the other side". He entered Harry's mind while Harry was unconscious. Would Harry have known what was going on or how to proceed next without Dumbledore's guidance? Plus, if Harry were truly able to interact with deceased loved ones in that moment, you'd think his parents would've jumped at the chance to be there with him. Maybe Dumbledore somehow absorbed the soul fragment contained within Voldemort's cursed ring? Just as Voldemort had to be the one to "kill" Harry because Harry was an unintended horcrux, Snape, for whatever reason, had to be the one to "kill" Dumbledore after he, himself, became an unintended horcrux? What if Dumbledore had survived the killing curse the exact same way Harry did? 🤔 Suddenly, the possibilities are endless! This theory alone could pave the way for an entire new book series!

What about the body in the tomb? Then there is his picture in the office with the other headmasters. Plus the message in the pensive where Dumbledore tells Snape to kill him so that Draco does not have to live with the guilt. Just some thoughts.
or, and follow me on this, snape made a version that seeks out and destroys any horcruxes connected to the target (for example: if Voldemort was struck by this version, Nagini and all other horcruxes would be instantly (killed/destroyed.) and it is clearly within a theoretical margin that in his early pursuit of power, Dumbledore (guilty for the death of his sister) creates a horcrux in the form of his pet phoenix, hence their symbiotic relationship. Under this theory, the part of Dumbledore that Harry met when he was killed was actually the part of Dumbledore that was within the phoenix. The actual Dumbledore created a fake body and left to ensure his missions final variables during Deathly Hallows
What you missed, is the fact that snake didn’t want to kill Dumbledore he simply carried out the plan that he, and the headmaster had set up ahead of time. The death eaters of course didn’t know that. There were two purposes to the plan that they had set up. One was to spare Draco‘s soul, the other was two make it so that the dark Lord would completely trust Snape.
@@HarryPotterTheory Yes. Muggles embalm their corpses and that works pretty well. We can only imagine that the same process with magic is way more effective.
Dumbledore knows that Tom isn't that careful with details.. Certainly he could have created a convincing replica of his own body.. Tom was too busy being hideously gleeful at stealing the ring to take note whether Dumbledore's body was real or not.
I think the biggest issue with this theory is that Snape and Dumbledore don’t plan the attack to happen there and that night. Dumbledore is surprised that Draco got death eaters into the castle. So Snape would have had to think of the fake spell very quickly and on the fly.
Dumbledore acts surprised... Snape knew what was going on the whole time. Just because in the book and movie we didn't see or read about Draco telling Snape the plan, doesn't mean Snape wasn't part of the plan... yes, Snape killing Dumbledore made voldemort trust him a hell of a lot more, but he was already trusted with the unbreakable vow between him and Draco in the beginning. Snape told Dumbledore the plan for sure. Thats why Dumbledore and Harry went to get the horcrux that same night. Snape appeared in the tower after all the death eaters came into the tower and shushes Harry down below. The plan was already set in stone. They even show in DH from Snape memory Dumbledore telling Snape how the plan is to go down and that voldemort is sending Draco to kill him.
Dumbledore being alive is a VERY far stretch especially due to the curse he got from the ring which he confirmed would have killed him within a year and the fact he was still dead in his tomb when Voldemort came for the elder wand
Well, since you mentioned “something glaringly obvious” that you missed… Dumbledore’s body was in his tomb when Voldemort recovered the Elder Wand and when Harry returned it at the end of Deathly Hallows (book, not movie). Also, Dumbledore talks to Harry in the afterlife, but that could simply be dismissed as an hallucination.
Dumbledore tells him it's all in his head and not the afterlife... little voldemort we saw and read was the dead horcrux/life of voldemort dying inside of Harry. Voldemort took out his own horcrux without knowing. The resurrection stone actually wasn't needed either. It was a "just in case" the spell actually took out Harry and the horcrux and not just the horcrux.
@@juliemesser2053 great brilliant minds think alike I guess which book movie subject and professor is your favorite and least favorite character have you ever played hogwarts mystery it is awesome
But Harry meets Dumbledore in limbo. Maybe he survived that night everyone thought he died, but the curse on his hand eventually got him at some point during the Deathly Hallows.
It’s been a while since I read it but I do remember reading the half blood prince when it came out and thinking dumbledore faked his death just from the funeral end, I clearly remember a phoenix flying out from dumbledores grave and immediately thought that dumbledore was an animagus
When Dumbledore says "Please...." He is asking for the Mercy Killing because of the cursed Ring... One way i explain the Blue Light in the Movie, is that Snape did not fully commit to the Spell(emotionally)... Hence why there is a Delay in Dumbledore's death from the Killing Curse... During the scene, you call see Dumbledore is Reactive for a short time, then does die mid-air... So the Spell did work, But not as instantaneously as one that was fully committed ect.
The main problem with this theory is the following (Deathly Hallows Chapter 24): „And he walked on, around the edge of the lake, taking in the outlines of the beloved castle, his first kingdom, his birthright.... And here it was, beside the lake, reflected in the dark waters. The white marble tomb, an unnecessary blot on the familiar landscape. He felt again that rush of controlled euphoria, that heady sense of purpose in destruction. He raised the old yew wand: How fitting that this would be its last great act. The tomb split open from head to foot. The shrouded figure was as long as thin as it had been in life. He raised the wand again. The wrappings fell open. The face was translucent, pale, sunken, yet almost perfectly preserved. They had left his spectacles on the crooked nose: He felt amused derision. Dumbledore's hands were folded upon his chest, and there it lay, clutched beneath them, buried with him. Had the old fool imagined that marble or death would protect the wand? Had he thought that the Dark Lord would be scared to violate his tomb? The spiderlike hand swooped and pulled the wand from Dumbledore's grasp, and as he took it, a shower of sparks flew from its tip, sparkling over the corpse of its last owner, ready to serve a new master at last.“ So either they transfigured something into Dumbledores corpse and put it into the grave or there is Dumbledore actually lying in his grave when Voldemort steals the Elder Wand.
It's a nice idea, but it's just too convoluted to be believable (yes, I said that about a fantasy book with wizards in it ;) ). If Rowling had wanted to have Dumbledore survive, it would have been far easier to write the scenario out to give him his exit. These are fun to come up with though, and amusing to hear.
I think what can add to this theory is that when Harry in the final book was in the forest, walking to his "death" to meet Voldemort, and he saw his parents, Sirus and Remus, he never saw Dumbledore. You can't say that the resurrection stone would only allow you to see relatives, because obviously Sirus and Remus are not blood relatives, and he saw them. For such an important role Dumbledore played in Harry's life, it would be reasonable to expect that he would to also show up I suppose.
@@pulkit8213 My theroy is Dumbledore is not dead but placed in a timestop. You can see when Voldemort open his grave his body is stll intact even a full year after he died so something tells me he is not truly dead but in some kind of timestop. Snapes killing curse was also blue insteed of green.
Dumbledore's pleading is most logically read to urge Snape to carry on with the brutal act. He certainly thought that Snape would kill him. There were reasons for Dumbledore to keep secrets from Snape as Voldemort could read him. There were no reasons for Snape to keep surprises from Dumbledore.
One thing you missed is that Dumbledore doesn't resurface after the event. Why would he have to stay hidden after Voldemort's death? In the final chapter (19 years later) there is no mention of his, or Snape's survival. He also appears in the afterlife to Harry after Voldemort's killing curse hits Harry! Nice theory though....
I love the theory and the snape quote from the first lesson got my attention hard but I still believe Snape did use the killing curse as book states it but the movie shows a blue light so I think that's down to no hatred behind it more of a kindness like putting your pet down or pulling the plug you don't do it to be cruel
Well, if he really survived the spell, he definitely would've died from the curse. Because he met Harry in the Afterlife. Or as another theory goes, Dumbledore is Death incarnate and therefore is immortal unless killed by his own weapon. But then Snape wouldn't have needed to fake Dumbledore's supposed death. I guess we'll never know. Unless JK Rowling makes a comment about that
Someone finally saying the Theory I've had for years that Snape would not have been able to use the Killing curse to full extent. The only hole I've found in the Theory is that the Unbreakable Vows magic may have given Snape the ability to cast as he would have died had he not succeeded.
Great theory... There's plenty of plot holes for it to happen. Also the killing curse is usually described as a "flash of green light and a whooshing sound" accompanying it, in the book there's no description of a whooshing sound when snap casts the killing curse I reckon the "Blue Killing Curse" is more of a cinematic way of showing that Snape never wanted to truly kill Albus.
i disagree about the "you must really mean it" part for Avada Kedavra, bellatrix was talking about the cruciatous curse when she said that. which makes sense since you have to really want to hurt someone to torture them
Murdering a beloved headmaster in cold blood would get people to turn on you.(Again no one apart from Dumbledore and Snape knew it was pre-mediated and that Dumbledore was dying anyway until harry saw the memories)
i love this theory! I’m sorry if someone already pointed this out, but if Dumbledore isn’t actually dead the spell he cast on harry, “Petrificus Totalus” would not have broken when he died. Which he casts to protect the chosen one on the astronomy tower. Harry would still be stuck in the full body bind curse. As always, great video!
I mean , there was a body at the bottom of the tower, then the funeral, and his body in the coffin that Voldemort violated. It's possible I suppose that between them, Snape and Dumbledore could have faked his death and make his body seem dead for a short while, but would they what...use polyjuice potion on someone else that was dead to make it look like Dumbledore on the off chance Voldy would steal the elder wand? And then there's Dumbledore appearing in Harry's 'afterlife' experience, Dumbledore's portrait in the Headmaster's office, the curse on his hand. It's a nice thought that Dumbledore could somehow still be alive, but then why not turn up again once Voldemort is dead, and Bellatrix (would an unbreakable vow be broken by the death of the person casting it onto a recipient?). Lovely theory, but sadly, I think Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore really did die that day. 😪
Nah. Dumbledore is dead. He hadn't planned to die when he did and was caught off guard. Decent theory, but far too contrived. Dumbledore died and Snape killed him.
I only see one major flaw this doesn't address and that's his being in Limbo and a lack of a return from death some time in the 19 years after the war plus even if you get rid of the cursed hand and the absurdly complex nature of such a ruse if nothing else he was extremely old and if murder didn't take him time would soon enough.
I really love this theory, but there’s one thing I still don’t understand. Didn’t Voldemort opened his grave? Dumbledore wasn’t dead for too long at this point that his complete corpse would be unrecognizable. I hope you get my point. Beside this, everything makes sense and I love it
dumbledore is such a good actor, he waited inside his tomb for a long time to stop voldemort from stealing the elder wand, if only dumbledore wasnt asleep at the moment it happened!
Snape double thought is what i think happened. He twisted his own desires so that he did want Dumbledore dead, for failing his promise to protect lily, all the while well also having his feelings for Dumbledore as a friend.
In my opinion this is impossible due to the wording of Snape and Narcissa's unbreakable vow. "Will you Severus, watch over my son, Draco, as he attempts to fulfill the Dark Lord's wishes?" "And will you to the best of your ability, protect him from harm?" With these words leaving Dumbledore alive after Draco failed to kill him would have put Draco in danger from every direction. Dumbledore could have plotted something, we know he wouldn't, but he could have. Voldemort and his followers would assume Draco was in the know if it was ever discovered that Dumbledore was alive. In short doing so would have put Draco in danger, and as such would have violated the contract and caused Snape to die.
As wonderful it would be to have Dumbledore back, in the chapter “Flight of the Prince” it describes his broken body. The strange angle of his body, the blood trickling from his mouth and not to mention that he was week from the poison. It just doesn’t seem plausible.
You don't have to loathe a person to use the killing curse or to use crucio. Bellatrix stated you just have to want them to be hurt, or want them to die. Wanting doesn't necessarily come from hatred, especially in this context. I had a dog along time ago and as my dog gold older and he had a harder time moving around I wanted so badly for his suffering to end, his back legs stopped working and I knew it would be kinder if I just put him down. Me laying my suffering companion to rest didn't come from a place of hatred at all, it was quite the opposite. I hope that if I am blessed to make it to such an advanced age that my body stops working, that someone just puts something in my drink to help me "sleep", to end the pain I would be in. That being said, I would love it if Dumbledore survived, but I KNOW that Snape survived. As intelligent as that man is, you mean to tell me he didn't have an antidote for Nagini's venom, or a bezoar in his pocket at any given moment??? I mean, half the death-eaters there envied Snape's position, and being a triple agent meant the dude and enemies around him at any given moment, there is no way he didn't carry a couple of antidotes on him at all times. I bet he is just chilling in a new home, under a different name finally at peace.
The main thing I consider to truly discount it, is that Harry met Dumbledore in the afterlife after v. killed him. And there was nothing to suggest it was fake. I will preempt the “ of course it’s all in your head “ with “that doesn’t mean it isn’t real.” Which Dumbledore himself said.
strongest thing to back this theory is that when harry was holding the resurrection stone dumbledore didn’t appear, so maybe he didn’t appear because he wasn’t dead 🤔
It he was alive, he wouldn't have left everything for Harry to do. Being a 17 year old boy hunting pieces of Voldemort's soul which can literally be anything. Then make him face the Dark Lord on his own. Also give the task of gaining Voldemort's trust to Snape with the big chance of being killed at the end. I know theories are for debate but I don't think he survived. It was necessary for his plan to save the world from the dark forces. Also, he would die eventually because of the curse from the ring and the potion in the cave. I just don't think Dumbledore would've left everything in Harry's and Snape's hands and go resting after all those years.
@@queenbrightwingthe3890 Ah, a series with creatures that embody depression. A series where we basically have a magical Hitler. This is surely a kids movie.
I also have a point here For the forgivable curses to work the caster should have the real intent to hurt right Snape had no REAL intention to kill . Does this make sense?
so how does that work with the scene at kings cross station when Harry was killed by Voldemort in deadly hallows, how was his soul able to join Harry at that moment if he was still alive?
The train station was not the afterlife. It was a loop. Dumbledore moved into the light while the remains of Voldemort was stuck in the loop under the bench.
What? He just retired and was never seen again in a little vacation town going by Brian? Hes wonderful. Hes powerful. But people saw his mangled body. Bending in ways it never should bend. He is very. Dead.
I think that when Snape entered the vow, he and Dumbledore already agreed that Snape should be the one to kill him. (Dumbledore estimated he would have only a year to live after he got cursed by the ring) They already knew that Voldemort charged Draco with the job to kill Dumbledore, as Dumbledore explained himself he rather Snape kill him then Draco to save his soul. And, of course unknown to Snape, Dumbledore probably wanted Snape to kill him on his terms so that the power of the Elderwand would die with him because he would die undefeated, rather than Draco being the new right-full owner and as an effect would be killed by Voldemort to gain the power from Draco. On top of that, Voldemort would not have a shred of doubt left that he could trust Snape after him killing Dumbledore. So he could keep helping Harry and the Order.
It’s a nice and hopeful theory, but one flaw. In Deathly Hallows Part 2- or Deathly Hallows book, it shows us in the pensive that Dumbledore told Snape he would have to be the one to kill him in order for Snape to get the Elder wand and be trusted by Voldemort. Anyway, Dumbledore would have also have died anyway because of the disease located in his hand that year, it says so in the movie and I think in the book.
I always disagree with Snape having invented Sectumsempra. The spells he actually invented have many additional crossing outs and things next to them. Additionally Lupin talks about Snape being expert at using it in The Deathly Hallows. Yes Snape may have invented the healing spell for Sectumsempra , no else mentions being able to heal such a wound. If Snape invented Sectumsempra and used it on people while in school he likely would've been expelled or sent to Azkaban. So how could Lupin have recognized the spell. Most likely it was written down somewhere else or mentioned in an Advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts class during the time the Marauders and Snape where in school.
I believe the theory that Dumbledore can turn into a phoenix therefore I have this to say; In Dumbledore's duel against Grindelwald he turned he might have turned into a phoenix and if Grindelwald used a "Avada Kedavra" Dumbledore merely just turned into a phoenix and then didn't die continuing on being alive, Dumbledore is powerful, what if he used something that he would transform into a phoenix but not make it seem like it did, do you believe this, please reply if you have any agreement or disagreement, until next time, I think anything's possible.
As much as I'd love for Dumbledore to have been alive, I really don't think so. Throughout Snape memories of the half blood prince he was upset at the plan of killing Dumbledore, he didn't want to do it. I really don't think Snape would alter his memories to paint himself in that light, especially to Harry of all people. He killed Dumbledore not only to save Malfoy, but to also spare Dumbledore his horrible death at the hands of the curse. Though I do think the killing curse didn't actually kill him right away, the filmmakers went out of their way to make his curse a different color than the usual green. My theory on that is, his emotions and resentment toward the act of killing Dumbledore weakened the spell to wear his probably hurt Dumbledore, knocked him back, and either killed him a little slower or didn't kill him and the fall killed him instead
Something to mention about surviving long falls. Humans do it IRL. They just have to be unconscious and fully relaxed, as it's the body's own rigidity that makes it fragile to blunt force impact. Now, if he was truly dead, the body would only tense up because relaxing muscles is much more energy intensive than flexing them. Without commands from the brain the muscles tense up to conserve energy.
I saw the Half-blood Prince movie on Dec 24, 2009 before I read the book. Deathly Hallows hadn't come out yet. The movie had me fooled and I thought Snape was a traitor. It wasn't untill I read the Deathly Hallows book that I learned the truth about Snape. I've imagined in unpublished fanfiction that Curse breaker Bill Weasley used Curse breaking magic to heal Dumbledore's hand and to move the soul fragment in Harry's scar to a tin can making it the Horcrux container and then burning the can with Fiedfyre, destroying the Horcrux. Your idea is a good one for a serious fanfiction.
We know it's possible to cast spells without saying anything verbal. Is it possible to do that, while also reciting a decoy incantation that you're not actually casting? I don't mean he invented a copy, I'm saying he just silently cast any other spell while in the background his mouth said "Avada Kedavra." Snape is generally considered one of the best in the world at concealing his true intentions behind the guise of something else. He is THE master of showing one thing while thinking the complete opposite. And if we look at the description of what happened to Dumbledore, that is not what Avada Kedavra does. There is no getting blasted into the air or being sent backwards, you just fall down dead.
I'm not sure about the theory, but we know one thing: It's possible to cast a spell without an incantation. So what's stopping anyone from saying one incantation and instead casting a different spell without an incantation? Assuming it's possible, that's what Snape could have done. But there are a few questions that have to be answered for this theory to work: What did Dumbledore do after he was 'killed' and why didn't he return to fight against Voldemort/the Death Eaters in say, the final battle at Hogwarts or some other situations where it'd have been really helpful to have him around. And what's the scene in the Deathly Hallows were Dumbledore and Harry talk in Limbo?
First, you have to "mean" the unbelievable curses, not loathe the person or persons at whom they are directed. The only thing I do like about this theory is that it means Snape didn't actually kill him. However, as you say, it's far fetched.
If dumbledore would have survived and gone by the theory that he was an animagas and his animagas form was the Phoenix. All he would have had to do was transform into a Phoenix just out Of view of the people ln the castle tower and then fly off. And Dumbledore laying motionless in his grave he he could have used sleeping drought. Same potion that's used in sleeping beauty and snow white. It is an interesting theory. Because the only limitations to the imagination are the restrictions that you put on it yourself.
I always thought it was weird that Dumbledore was lifted into the air when you usually die on the spot with killing curse, I used to think it was levicorpus used in his mind but the words said from his mouth were different and that Dumbledore didn't really die, especially when it seems easy to convince people you're dead like Harry did... very interesting video!
We do know that Dumbledore died as he fell from the sky. Dumbledore would have made a crater in the ground or he would have been a bloody mess. That's what really happens when you fall and land from very high up.

I wonder how dumbledore manages to be alive and be in his portrait in the headmaster's office at once...
Honestly i read soo much fanfiction on that topic 😭🤚🏼
Hi you make really good detailed content thank you . I just have one quick question about your theory how Did dumbdore meet harry in book 7
o well he ded
It wasnt a green bolt but a blue bolt for Snape's Curse
I don't think you have to "loathe" someone to use an unforgivable curse, only to MEAN it.
Yeah it seems that was expressed a few times in that you must mean it.
Thats why I think the movie adaptation has a blue light as it was the killing curse but no hatred behind it
I don't think you have to dislike someone for the killing curse to go into effect. All you need is a desire to kill, whether that is with malice or not.
same thing i was thinking, and if he didnt meant it, he could've said avada kedavra without meaning it, and casted a nonverbal spell (to which he was an expert) to flare a green beam onto Dumbledore. All that said, even though I dont think Dumbledore would have left everything to chance if he was alive.
and u r right there!! absolutely right!
Just thinking about that is why I'm scared of heights. lol
What about Harry meeting Dumbledore at Kings Cross? To me that’s the clearest evidence that Dumbledore was dead.
According do JK. He is dead. Unless she starts pulling up her multidverse card and pull Dumbledore from another parallel universe using a form of Time turner.

@@MrWhiteLioness Anything is possible with magic.
@@barbiquearea Absolutely, beloved
You are wirdo
Why are people trying to make him be alive? I just don't get it.
It’s just a Theory you didn’t have to go that deep lol
I thought the same thing after I read Half Blood Prince when it was first released. As the DADA teacher that year, Snape taught the students how to cast spells non-verbally. I swore at the time that JK used this ploy as a hint that Snape faked Dumbledore’s murder by saying one thing and meaning another. This was further supported by the fact that Dumbledore was “blown off” the tower, because the killing curse is supposed to make the target just drop dead on the spot. It would have been a build up to the perfect plot twist.
Snape didn’t really WANT to kill dumbledore so the spell probably didn’t work as usual
So Cedric wasn't hit by a killing curse either? He was thrown into the air and flipped a few times.
@@laserbeam1787 the spider just dropped as well.
But if this is the case then the truth should have came out from Snape's tears

Would be weird to have him fake his death if he was already dying..
Dumbledore could've cured that curse if he wanted to, 100%
@@kalocaploc124 i know all that, I meant fake fake, like he didnt die in the fall.
It just diminishes Dumbledore’s character if he faked his own death and is just sitting in the shadows watching everything and everyone crumble around him.
this doesn't explain how Harry was able to meet Dumbledore in "limbo" when he got "killed" by Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest.
@@bradynzula607 not only that but he had the stone
Really Great theory 👍
Dumbledore does say he would trust Hagrid with his life 🤔
@@morrigankasa570 I can't honestly say ALWAYS (see what I did there) liked him.
I really like this theory, it could well have been that be stayed in his Phoenix form too long and he was reborn as a young man
What a great theory
Because that's not how it works. Yes if his Animagus was a Phoenix he could take the form. But he wouldn't have the magical tears and everything else Faux has. Why? Because he's actually human

If Dumbledore had survived, he would have played a more active role in the war against Voldemort. He wouldn't let so many more people suffer. And if Snape and Dumbledore were able to make a remedy for the curse (hand), they would have, and Dumbledore would have had more time.
Besides, Dumbledore talks to Harry in Limbo and, if I recall correctly, admits being dead.
very important observation there.
However, what if he did? Maybe a lot more people would have suffered and died if Dumbledore "had actually been dead".
One more point: when Dumbledore died, Fidelius Charm for HQ of the Order of the Phoenix passed to the next level of keepers making everyone who had received the secret from Dumbledore secret keepers to replace him.
That was only Harry's subconscious talking to himself not actually Dumbledore.
@@realScottThomas yeah, harry asked if it was all in his head. so who knows
Well there was no cure for the curse. But Dumbledore cutting off his hand might have stopped it

Apart from all these theories, Dumbledore at the time of his death technically was in the possession of the resurrection stone still.

Those Magic folks can do better.
They even show in DH from Snape memory Dumbledore telling Snape how the plan is to go down and that voldemort is sending Draco to kill him.
he could have figured this out before you know with all that killing planing
Dumbledore being alive is a VERY far stretch especially due to the curse he got from the ring which he confirmed would have killed him within a year and the fact he was still dead in his tomb when Voldemort came for the elder wand
Unless he had planned that Voldemort to take his wand

The main problem with this theory is the following (Deathly Hallows Chapter 24):
„And he walked on, around the edge of the lake, taking in the outlines of the beloved castle, his first kingdom, his birthright....
The spiderlike hand swooped and pulled the wand from Dumbledore's grasp, and as he took it, a shower of sparks flew from its tip, sparkling over the corpse of its last owner, ready to serve a new master at last.“
So either they transfigured something into Dumbledores corpse and put it into the grave or there is Dumbledore actually lying in his grave when Voldemort steals the Elder Wand.
HPT: Dumbledore is alive.
Me: I'm listeninggggg
I think what can add to this theory is that when Harry in the final book was in the forest, walking to his "death" to meet Voldemort, and he saw his parents, Sirus and Remus, he never saw Dumbledore. You can't say that the resurrection stone would only allow you to see relatives, because obviously Sirus and Remus are not blood relatives, and he saw them. For such an important role Dumbledore played in Harry's life, it would be reasonable to expect that he would to also show up I suppose.
I was thinking the same thing, why didn’t dumbledore appear ?
Nice theory though....
your channel is awesome. you're explanation for every vidio is remarkable. keep it up!
The vow only enforces "To the best of Snape's abilities." Hence if he created the pseudo-Killing Curse would be within those limits.
I think the blue in the movie is more symbolic that Snape did it out of kindness rather then hate or rage atleast that's how I have always seen it
Can yall just take one moment to sit and appreciate this channel’s excellence background music and effort
It would've been so cool to see Dumbledore fighting in the battle of hogwards
That battle would've been over before it even started if Dumbledore had the opportunity to attend it
@@trysam6952 it was already over before even started, Tom was doomed
We can assume that Dumbledore didn’t say “please” that way, but said please as in “please, do it” because of his and Snape’s plan.
Next week: Vernon Dursley is a wizard 😇
Great theory... There's plenty of plot holes for it to happen.
Also the killing curse is usually described as a "flash of green light and a whooshing sound" accompanying it, in the book there's no description of a whooshing sound when snap casts the killing curse
I reckon the "Blue Killing Curse" is more of a cinematic way of showing that Snape never wanted to truly kill Albus.
i disagree about the "you must really mean it" part for Avada Kedavra, bellatrix was talking about the cruciatous curse when she said that. which makes sense since you have to really want to hurt someone to torture them
*One thing you forgot that was glaringly obvious lol:*
*Dumbledore met Harry in limbo. He had to have died*
Cant believe no one ever figured out that snape was one of the good guys. He literally saved or at least helped harry in almost every movie
Murdering a beloved headmaster in cold blood would get people to turn on you.(Again no one apart from Dumbledore and Snape knew it was pre-mediated and that Dumbledore was dying anyway until harry saw the memories)
This was an insanely interesting theory. But what about when in the movie, when they see him dead in the courtyard.
i love this theory!
Failing a cure amputation might stop the curse that was afflicting Dumbledore
This is quite the most interesting theory! Although I felt sad for Snape if this theory is true as he is the one who met his end at the wand
Wait what?
@@carlosmpsenyorcapitacollon6977 Snape was killed with the elder wand, the wand that Dumbledore had and Voldemort later grabbed from his tomb
@@pepijnbroekhoven1149 No he wasn't. He was killed by nagini.
Brilliant theory. Love it! Well done, thank you.
He twisted his own desires so that he did want Dumbledore dead, for failing his promise to protect lily, all the while well also having his feelings for Dumbledore as a friend.
the movie makers: IT WAS JUST A LIGHTING PROBLEM!!!
In my opinion this is impossible due to the wording of Snape and Narcissa's unbreakable vow.
"Will you Severus, watch over my son, Draco, as he attempts to fulfill the Dark Lord's wishes?" "And will you to the best of your ability, protect him from harm?"
With these words leaving Dumbledore alive after Draco failed to kill him would have put Draco in danger from every direction.
The definitive proof that Dumbledore died in the tower was that Harry got out of the petrificus totalus spell in that moment
Interesting about the blue light from the curse... Fawkes could also have been a horcrux and maybe a piece of him lives on in the phoenix.
Who did Dumbledore kill in which to make a horcrux
A big problem with this theory though is harry literally met dumbledore's spirit in limbo after he was hit by the killing curse himself
Voldemort breaks into Dumbledore's tumb to take his wand. Wouldn't he notice if there was no body in there?
It he was alive, he wouldn't have left everything for Harry to do. Being a 17 year old boy hunting pieces of Voldemort's soul which can literally be anything. Then make him face the Dark Lord on his own. Also give the task of gaining Voldemort's trust to Snape with the big chance of being killed at the end.
I know theories are for debate but I don't think he survived. It was necessary for his plan to save the world from the dark forces. Also, he would die eventually because of the curse from the ring and the potion in the cave.
I just don't think Dumbledore would've left everything in Harry's and Snape's hands and go resting after all those years.
actually dumbledore destroyed one of the horcrux, so he didn't make harry do all the work.
all the people on this comment section are so wholesome. when in doubt, turn to stories. (and this channel. so welldone )
It is strange how Dumbledore wasn't decomposed when Voldermort took the elder wand nearly a year later.
Harry potter is made for kids. You think its wise to show a decomposed human in a kids movie ?
@@queenbrightwingthe3890 Ah, a series with creatures that embody depression. A series where we basically have a magical Hitler. This is surely a kids movie.
I also have a point here
For the forgivable curses to work the caster should have the real intent to hurt right
Snape had no REAL intention to kill .
Does this make sense?
Dumbledore couldn’t have seen harry in the afterlife if he had been alive still.
so how does that work with the scene at kings cross station when Harry was killed by Voldemort in deadly hallows, how was his soul able to join Harry at that moment if he was still alive?
Remember Voldemort's line "You have to mean it, Harry.”
WHAT IF SNAPE DIDN'T MEAN IT WHEN HE SAID IT and THAT'S why it fails...
6:00 HEY!!!
But if Dumbledore is alive why is he in the afterlife with Harry or was it really all in Harry’s head?
Wait so how would this work with Harry’s conversation with him near death at King’s Cross?
Since that book focused so much on nonverbal spells, could Snape cast one spell but speak another?
Yes
That Dumbledore was still in the crypt along with the elder wand when Voldemort came to take it kind of seals his death in my mind.
Something you missed was Harry’s conversation with Dumbledore at Kings Cross in the final book/film
The idea of a curse killing Dumbledore was a major asspull. He would easily be able to cancel it with a spell.
Could you IMAGINE:
In fantastic beasts we discover that albus really is an animagus. And then they somehow confirm this theory????
If dumbledore would have survived and gone by the theory that he was an animagas and his animagas form was the Phoenix. All he would have had to do was transform into a Phoenix just out
Of view of the people ln the castle tower and then fly off.
Dumbledore grinning inside while Voldemort opens his grave for the Elder Wand knowing it's useless for him.
I think it was the fall from the astronomy tower that dealt the killing blow, Snape's Avada Kadavra just threw Dumbledore backwards.
We do know that Dumbledore died as he fell from the sky. Dumbledore would have made a crater in the ground or he would have been a bloody mess. That's what really happens when you fall and land from very high up.
