Tim at Steve Holcomb Pro Auto Custom Interiors shows me how they make there custom center console..very good information...check it out!! For more cool stuff check out www.scottiedtv....
There's a couple of profound statements in this video: 10:43 "Everybody knows somethin' you don't. Pay attention, right?" 12:44 "It's not how good you are. It's how good you fix your mistakes. Some of my best work has been hiding mistakes."
Sometimes you see a "how to" video and realize that there's no way in hell you can do it and make it look good. This is one of those times. Tim really knows his stuff. I know I can't do what he does, but the talk about using PVC foam and sheet was informative for some lesser, easier projects I want to do. Thanks for making this video.
It's all done with PVC Sheet and Heat...The side parts are cut out of the same stuff....it gets flexible when you heat it...when it cools...it gets stiff again when it cools....
Very nice work. But on a positive note, you can do this at home guys and for cheap! Don't be discouraged by the 20k price. He's earned that from having years of experience but this can be done for less than 50$ without the cost of leather of coarse. You could wrap in many things tho. And you can build the frame with sheetmetal, wood, plastic old signs(ha). Keep it simple. And then be proud of your shit. Thanks Scotty
We did that with a pontoon I bought for 500. 300 in material. A buddy tinkered with the motor [free] .so for 800 and a little time we sold it for little 5k. I like your thinking!
Scottie might ask questions, or say things that give you the impression he doesn't know much about the things he covers but.... He has the coolest videos & I'm a HUGE fan of his videos:) keep Up The Good Work Bro!
MrKboat, Respectfully, I think he's actually asking a leading and well considered simple *stream of questions that may appear 'simple' when in-fact they are open-ended to provide the builders the opportunity to describe (and connect) their craft and how they how they approach their work. It is not obvious but take a look again this or another vid from this perspective. No assumptions, a lot of information get passed on and an enjoyable rapport. 22min unbroken. Since every one is custom every fold and seam is a challenge, tweek, and opportunity. From what adhesive is used -very important. "Will there be storage in there?" Sure.. but he is deferring. IMO the guy is ridiculously humble and is smart to let the pro talk. Yes, he is not asking, "DId you go with a flat tappet or a roller cam and why not Carrillo rods?" If you notice, his vids always flow well which is usually not the sign of the uninformed. I get what your saying 100%, when he does not know too. He is always sharp to get the subject flushed out. I am a fan for the same reasons. We must have similar taste. FTW.
It would have been a three day video...This video or any video will not make you a 20 yr vet of the interior business...but this should help you get started...good luck...
Great Video, also when you complete the console, how do you attach it to the base of the car? Is it bolted or does the weight and snugness just keep it there?
Chandler Gaines I've used everything from simple L brackets with self tapping screws on my first build to custom molded fiberglass/reinforced body filler with imbedded hurricane nuts and L bracket for strength in odd locations where more contact area was needed. Basically I took the L bracket and extended it using fiberglass cloth/ Matt and reinforced body filler to even out the shape. One of them with 4 mounting holes kind of looked like Boba Fetts ship slave 1
That's right...they are different thicknesses...you use a heat gun....get it hot,,,form it....let it cool....the type of adhesive he used i just posted to a comment below..
Glad to see something made without using fiberglass molds. Nothing beats hand made to fit each vehicle. As you're sure to get that eagle eye treatment. Great Stuff
It depends on the job...not sure the name of the leather company he uses...there are book that have the samples in....the client decides what he wants...
Good people don't go to heaven is simply stating that most people think that their good works buys them a ticket into heaven. This is not true. People who go to heaven are those who put their trust in the finished work of Christ and then are born again. Jesus stated himself that you must be born again. You no longer live for yourself, but you have been bought (purchased) with a price. There are no good works that will pay your way into heaven.
Dude...you put like six in a changer....and who uses cd's?...it has a mp3 plug in...where you from Brother?...not trying to insult you...but this type of install in very common...some put the head unit under a seat.....you try to hide that...
It should...shows you understand that he makes it look easy....the nice thing is that he gives you a idea how to start...and how it works...Tim has been doing this over 20 yrs....your first one may not look this good...but try it
You mount pieces of wood to the floor than drill through the braces in this.. to get a tight fit...depending on what car your installing it is....you have to figure out what will work best
I was apologizing for the 9th grade flash back...lol...yea this is not my usual interview about a car...but it's part of what I do show a lot..and like I said I had a lot of request from viewers to make on on how Steve does things...next I want to shoot him making a convertible top...that's a interesting process
Good people don't go to heaven . Only way into heaven is knowing the lord died for your sins and you believe in him that's what Mama tells me. Oh and except the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior ;)
" Good people don't go to heaven" that's very true you can be a very good person give to charity and everything but if you don't have Jesus Christ in your life you'll go straight to hell
11 years and this video is still relevant. Here I am wanting to build custom consoles not knowing I can use PVC instead of wood. It makes perfect sense in case of moisture.
Love the workmanship, I use 3mm (1/8") plywood as I have high ambient temperatures.and vinyl as leather is so expensive in Spain and it shrinks in the heat, but I learnt a few pointers.

Good judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement
@@billseward2274 I heard that from an old guy who I worked with back in the 70's and never forgot it.
DEEEEEEEEEP

+Johnny Anonyme Our pleasure Brother...Glad you enjoyed it!!
What thickness PVC sheets are they?
It's all done with PVC Sheet and Heat...The side parts are cut out of the same stuff....it gets flexible when you heat it...when it cools...it gets stiff again when it cools....
very cool.... any links on where one can buy PVC sheets?
Did you ever find out where to get the PVC?

Any idea what he used to shape the insert and get it to hold it's shape?
Weldwood Contact Cement
I used to do shit like this, me and some friends build sound system enclosures and forming it to flow from under the dash to the rear

Thank you Brother...I tell people all the time..I don't know anything but cool....lol

+Chandler Gaines I'd like to know the answer to this too
Imma do this one Day to a C3 Stingray!
Most likely bolted to the frame or the floor to ensure that it wont mov out of place

Chandler Gaines Bolted. If its not bolted it acts as a projectile and all that hard work goes literally out the windshield in the case of an accident.

Claude Rains Right on!
It depends on the job...not sure the name of the leather company he uses...there are book that have the samples in....the client decides what he wants...

Very good
Salim Mohamed he inspires me to do something similar but I'm just to lazy😅
It is all either cut...or heated with a heat gun and formed..and it's all PVC sheet....
"Good people don't go to heaven"... love the t-shirt. Bad people don't go to hell either though.
+Mark Bartlett IIRC the back say"s something about "they go racing" or some such nonsence..??

There's a comma - the flip side of the shirt states, "Believers do."
Tim would be a fine man to know in real life.

I have one...not as detailed....but I will see if I can work out something...stick around!
$500...but that's just a guess
That info is in the video....
You heat it with a heat gun...form it to the shape you need and let it cool..
They use blocks of wood mounted to the floor to screw the console into...
Good people don't go to heaven . Only way into heaven is knowing the lord died for your sins and you believe in him that's what Mama tells me. Oh and except the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior ;)
Right on!
They go through a hide dealer....one hide will cost any where from $750 to $1000..
Yes..different thickness...but it's all made of plastic..thanks for cking it out!
By size I mean thickness..
" Good people don't go to heaven" that's very true you can be a very good person give to charity and everything but if you don't have Jesus Christ in your life you'll go straight to hell
Truth...
