Really impressed with how well he's coming along this year. My farrier told me a story recently about a client of his who got a rank ranch horse that had to be sedated to do his feet. The place where they work the cows is 9 miles each way. He said the next day the horse was super quiet and was super easy next time his feet were done. His reasoning was that we tend to not work our competition horses (I do dressage) hard enough, my farrier is a team roper (cow roping) and he said it's a good thing to work the horse so he understands his job and he'll be better for it. I see the same thing developing with Ember. I have seen a number of OTTB that can't canter and have to be taught because all they know how to do is gallop. Not all, as some trainers actually do a good job with the basics, but not all unfortunately. My own horse just had 38 days of ulcer treatment as he was not going forward at all (napping), rearing, kicking out etc. Quite angry. I read that 90% of race horses have ulcers and 60% of performance horses. My boy has completely turned around and now is such a happy forward boy. Others around me were convinced it was behavioral, but it turns out, it wasn't. So happy to see you and Ember getting past the rough patch. Onwards and upwards !
Amazing progress! Getting Charlie to ride him was a stroke of genius. Congratulations Justine, Charlie, Lucy and the beautiful Ember. What a breakthrough 🎉❤🎉
Lucy that looked like you had a good time, AND well done to Charlie and Justine for ALL there help and support. TAKE care and all the best. I sow you ON h&c t.v. GOOD luck with all you do. 😄😄😄👍👍👍🐶🐶
This was *incredible.* Seriously, what a transformation!!! I said "wow" multiple times aloud watching your event warmup, and the XC was fabulous. As an owner of a similarly strong horse, I'd love to know more about how Charlie "settles strong horses" during his canter work. Please share!
Well done team! What an amazing piece of genius Justine, well done Charlie - he needs to tell us how! And well done you Lucy. He takes a ton of skill. I can’t wait to see you in the future. I still think you will both go advanced if you want to. Badminton grass roots deffo . It would be fab to have the whole sumo crew riding the same year x
That was an awesome vlog. The two of you together are great. Charlie definitely looked the part and I loved his canter surface of choice. Very clever. But what a wonderful outcome. Onwards 👏👏👏👏
Congratulations Lucy! I'm so pleased for you how well he did and what a change in him!. I think having justines husband ride him is an absolutely brilliant idea 💡 what better to have an experienced jockey ride and work him out, no one knows race horses better than a jockey and he certainly seems to know his stuff, which yeah will make him a better horse for you!. I'm looking forward to him work his magic on him and help him to relax more. The warm up I agree was absolutely spot on!. Rome wasn't built in a day and training horses is certainly not something that works in a day either, I think his training and help with a jockey is exactly what he needs and practicing up the gallops there will help both of you. I'm also so pleased you mention here of hello fresh as I have been thinking of getting this and will now with your discount codes! All the foods look delicious. Take care until next time 😊
Fantastic result clever thinking from Justine he seems better and more relaxed training him the way he used to Ember is a lovely little horse he is looking incredible a true credit to uou Lucy heres to the season to come can't wait. We'll ridden what a massive improvement ❤
Well done. I don't know what Charlie does but you could see Ember in a much better canter with him on board. Very well ridden Lucy. Ember is a great horse, he just has to get the racing mode out of his head.
That was amazing congratulations, Ember did so well! Hes so lucky to have you, Justine and Charlie. I must say though Lucy you must have some wicked muscles from riding Ember!!!! Love Justine shes a great friend/trainer, I follow her as well, love her down to earth approach to it all. Can't wait to see more of you and Ember, I take my hat off to you, for you're patience and understanding of Ember, love watching you ride.
Excellent, so good to see Charlie on him & just bolling him along , Ember is a lovely little bloke & once it’s cemented it’s onwards & upwards for you both Lucy .
I had a TB that would not settle (a real white knuckle ride), in Dressage and CC. I took him riding in the bush for 6 hours (pulling all the way) and when he got back I took him for a canter round cc jumps where he settled beautifully, finding his rhythm. The next week I took him back to the same bush area and as soon as he saw where he was he went straight into loose rein walk. We never had anymore rushing problems.
Great story. It really comes down to them, changing their mindset from racing. Easier said than done, sometimes, but once they understand, they say, why was I working so hard all this time?
Have you ever considered taking on another Thoroughbred in addition to Ember? Ember is the sweetest and cutest little buzzy horse. There are bigger, more solid, calmer Thoroughbreds that come off the track. If you had two, you might feel under less pressure to be successful with Ember and be able to have more fun with him.
Love the 2 of you. How do you know how safe the field/paddocks are? Holes from rabbits, wombats, foxes, etc that can't be seen - one day to the next they could appear/happen.
Fantastic news Lucy - what amazing friends you have in Justine and Charlie . I’m so so happy for you but how did you feel with your first canter on the gallops ?!?
My son was doing his first pc tetrathlon xc (40cm so cute) round there on Sunday! The wind was crazy!!! I need Charlie to help my mare! Great improvement, looked fun x
Can we have an interview with CHARLIE please to hear about his technique? So happy the bumps are getting smoothed out with Ember.
Total breakthrough! Yaayyyyy! Amazing group effort by an amazing group!

Charlie for the win! What a massive difference. He still looks like a handful, but a rideable handful! 🙂
What a difference in his way of going already! Such a clever boy. Justine and Charlie are brilliant trainers and you rode equally brilliantly.
he looked amazing, well done! and yay Charlie!
So pleased for you Lucy, Ember seems so tricky but he looked like a different horse here. And he is looking FIT
I always wondered why Charlie Ward was such an amazing jockey and now I know !! Makes perfect sense 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤣🤣
Loved this! Ember is looking fantastic and hopefully will get better and better ❤x
Fab video Lucy. What a difference in Ember already. Amazing. You're very lucky to have Justine and Charlie.

Big improvement, and it’s a difficult balance with Ember. Well done all.

That was an awesome vlog. The two of you together are great. Charlie definitely looked the part and I loved his canter surface of choice. Very clever. But what a wonderful outcome. Onwards 👏👏👏👏
I noticed that too LOL. That plowed ground definitely helped rate him and show him that he COULD just gallop forward in a controlled manner.

Omg I kept looking for the cow for ages until I realised it was covering a swear word 😂😂😂😂. Well done Lucy you are both looking great!!
Wow, even in the warm up he was so different. So pleased for you & team that Charlie’s tricks worked! Onwards & upwards!!! ❤

She only has room for four horses. Not everyone can add to their string. A lot of folks have to work with what they have.
Honestly this is exactly what my ex racer is like so nice to not be alone hopefully I can get some tips although my mare is very opinionated 😂
What a lovely smooth ride, well done!! Amazing progress.
Just pausing to say, wow he looks amazing, such a credit to you!
Great team work
❤
You and ember have come sooo far!!

Wow, great going! Charlie is amazing!
I love you and Ember together. A perfect match and he is learning to canter for you. Fantastic videos!
Love the 2 of you. How do you know how safe the field/paddocks are? Holes from rabbits, wombats, foxes, etc that can't be seen - one day to the next they could appear/happen.

What is a tetrathon?
Can Charlie come for gallop hire in US? ❤ great reminder sometimes we all need help on our ponies
An awesome vid thanks so much.
Looks great.
Loved this one
Such a difference in this short period of time! Seems to me like you're on the right track 😊
Lucy have you tried bridging your reins
You and rob make a beautiful couple💜💜💜
What an improvement. The trouble you’ll have is going too fast xc just like Justine !
So that bit you are using has a head raising effect just saying as he already carries his head so high anyway it’s a funny choice
Great video.. Love to no your thoughts about bitless bridles?
Lucy have you had this horses back xrayed?
Hi!! Me and my Mum are a massive fan, we have been watching you for ages!! I would love it if you could reply. We love you so much!!❤❤❤😊
What is Justine's channel, please?
Justinewardeventing
He still wants to run and race like he was first trained.
🐴💕👍👍👍
Great job. Show more kitchens that humans live in! No more perfect robot kitchens that nobody ever lived or cooked in, please.
Hé has a lil hart as a star cute
