- Now this was an event I was really looking forward to... Eventing, but without the dressage! Come along to Little Downham 2-phase training with me and Ember my ex race horse. The idea of the event was to complete a show jumping course at your chosen height (mine was 80cm) then carry on to complete a full cross country course, but pick any height of fences as you went round!

Remembering the first rides on Ember...this is SO much better. He's so willing, so even, and his form over jumps SO much better.
Honestly, that was just super. Clearly all that canter work with Charlie has settled Ember down hugely. Almost as though he understands what is being asked of him now. What a massive improvement from that first outing getting him to follow or be led by Justine over tiny fences. Just an incredibly achievement in such a relatively short time. Jolly well done and wonderful team support.
That was lovely , I got so emotional. it was great seeing you and him, being TOGETHER.
Ember looks sooo good physically but more important: he looks so happy! I am floored by his transformation. All credit to you and Justine and Charlie. Thank you for taking us on your journey with him. As an aside: yay for seeing Laragh running around again!

What incredible progress you have both made over these past few years! Credit to you and your support team. It really does “take a village’. Ember looked so relaxed and impressive.
I admire you for sticking with the process - it cannot have been easy in the earlier days riding through all the napping and hurtling at jumps on an ex racer.

Good morning from Australia. It's 5.20am. Feeling buzzed to see Ember again.
Edited to add that I fully agree with not stereotyping horse breeds. My horse is a Standardbred and typically they are quiet but no one told my horse and he is quite hot 🔥. He's much, much hotter than my dear departed Thoroughbred ever was. Luckily for me, he does have a give it a go attitude.

To have a horse so honest and happy to jump fences and please is a TB trait that makes them incredibly fun. You two look great! And Justin is an amazing trainer. Nothing but growth and fun is in your future.

Slow and steady wins the race, it was lovely watching you jump a round of show jumps keeping a great rhythm in your canter and the same for the xc course. Well done you should be so proud of yourselves 💕

How great was that? 😊. Calm and consistent comes to mind. Perfect training event for you both. I hope Charlie can still do some canter work with him from time to time. Ember certainly learnt a lot.

Wow, that showjumping round was so good Lucy. He is so confident now to let the jumps come to him. Much more fluent on the XCountry too, and brave with it, that looked like a meaty Trakhener. So pleased for you, and well ridden!

This was great Lucy Ember was so chilled and enjoying his jumping I think Charlie did the trick having him for a couple of weeks riding Ember. You absolutely are a very good rider never doubt that. I loved the music especially when you did the cross country part. Tbs are the most beautiful intelligent type of horse one can ride people have got it wrong if they say they aren’t. I’ve ridden loads and there was only one I didn’t like and passed him onto my work colleague. He was a fruit n nut and at the time my riding a crazy horse I wasn’t ready to do that so our most experienced rider took him on and I rode his filly whom I adored so it worked out well. This was a lovely vlog so I’m looking forward to seeing more.tfs🤗🏇🤗

I wish someewhere there was an event with just x country and dressage as I hate show jumping.
You both looked awesome over both courses today! Ember is clearly living his best life and jumping really, really well. Love that he seems so much more settled into his "job" and happy about performing well for "Mummy"! It really bodes very well for his maturing into a first class eventer. Ah Luce. He looks amazing! Well done you. I have been following since you got him, I got my ex racer at the same time. I have got nowhere because of her injury and then mine. I have lacked lots of confidence with her. Built up enough to have a jump, she threw in a huge green jump, I fell off and injured my shoulder so we are on the sidelines again. I can’t wait until we are at your stage. Been amazing to see the progress with him. Knew you could do it!
