I’m starting learning Russian seriously today, I’ll update every 6 months until I can speak well!( for me speaking well is being able to hold intellectual conversations the same way I do in English ) 1st update: I’m able to speak decently, but I’m still at an introductory level. I could get around asking for directions and speak in basic conversations but when it comes to truly speaking my mind or carrying an intellectual conversation I’m not at that level yet. I like using books, I can recommend the ones I’m using if anyone wants. And they helped me get somewhere especially when I was first starting but most of all you need to hear Russian people talk, wether through movies, shows, videos or music and I find as a very audio focused language learner that’s really helped me though my accent is still horrible 💀

Great to see this up to date info just prior to Camp. I’ve created a little exercise that’s helping with elusive case endings after many many hours, days, weeks, months - studying. I've just started learning Russian and I accidentally stumbled upon a random video of an advanced learner venting about the grammar complexity and the gates of hell opened before me, showing the nightmares awaiting for me if I decide to continue my studies. Moral of the story: 1- Don't study the grammar if you are still learning the alphabet and the vocabulary. 2- youtube is a dangerous place, you might stumble across the grammar by accident. Be cautious.
Devoting 70% of ones time and focus to learning vocabulary cannot involve devoting 5% to listening and speaking because those skills are fundamental to memorizing all words.

Vocabulary isn't taking a backseat in English, on the contrary there's no English speaking that speak the same kinds, others aren't really compatible with modern times, depending on the region.
мне как носителю очень интересно видеть как кто то учит мой язык
Помидор! Это реально круто! Продолжай в том же духе!
That's a point of view 😊
Iam learning, iam also teaching my kids at the same time , so we are all learning at the same pace , from a childs way of learning witch is much easier for us all , iam going back ad forth to different teachers on hr , as some are harder to understand personally iam finding it easier with the quick clips of a couple of words for beginner, not 50 at a time but i am slow , 😂 iam getting my kids to try to put words in to our own language for it to really mix in to remember, working so far 😁👍
Over the summer I started Russian Duolingo because at my school their was a whole section for Russians but then I return this year and the Russians are gone I saw their map today and It made me miss them so much..
I've just started learning Russian and I accidentally stumbled upon a random video of an advanced learner venting about the grammar complexity and the gates of hell opened before me, showing the nightmares awaiting for me if I decide to continue my studies.
Moral of the story:
1- Don't study the grammar if you are still learning the alphabet and the vocabulary.
2- youtube is a dangerous place, you might stumble across the grammar by accident. Be cautious.
i would say begin from grammar- it is the stone you will built you russian house upon
Russian grammar can be a fun and creative game, don't turn it into a more complicated case than Latin.
an interesting point
Devoting 70% of ones time and focus to learning vocabulary cannot involve devoting 5%
to listening and speaking because those skills are fundamental to memorizing all words.
